The most important red line of Barack Obama’s presidency was scrawled hastily in January 2007, a few weeks before he even announced he was running for president. Soon-to-be-candidate Obama, then an Illinois senator, was thinking about turning down an invitation to speak at a big health care conference sponsored by the progressive group Families USA, when two aides, Robert Gibbs and Jon Favreau, hit on an idea that would make him appear more prepared and committed than he actually was at the moment. Why not just announce his intention to pass universal health care by the end of his first term? Thus
Obama´s signature ´achievement´ legislation was written by a bunch of aides and interns. No one, including Obama, even knew what was in the bill but they proceeded to shove it down the throats of Americans anyway. The backlash hasn´t even begun.
Pretty much doesn´t matter if this bill is good for the country, its people or the economy, Obama and his cadre of fellow travelers wanted to make a big political statement and they have to the detriment of everyone. It is more important to these progressive bullies to get this monstrosity in place than do the right thing with health insurance. It is all about their legacy and Obama´s presidency. The icing on the cake is the control of every man, woman and child in this country, the growth of government and crushing defeat of Republicans.
#3, while I completely agree with your assessment, I believe that it´s useless to confront liberals with reality-based responses. They DO NOT understand reason and logic. What they DO understand and relate to are emotion-based responses. In a group setting especially, they will back down immediately if I use LibSpeak words like SHAME, UNFAIR, or FOR THE CHILDREN to make my conservative point. Try it sometime. You will be amazed how easily they are converted.
Pot will be legal and sold in stores. Prescription drugs and real health care will become cash only or black market antibiotics and cancer meds. Heck of a thought that you can walk around stoned legally but healthy , not so much.
#5, they sure don´t respond to "right and wrong"!! If you talk about the morality of stealing from people, they will just talk about the "poor, suffering downtrodden" without even bringing up the massive fraud!
Fauxbama defies human calculation. You can´t believe anything that he says, since he regularly contradicts it two days later. Nor can you interpret ´what he does´ since there´s no ´he´ there; he regularly delegates to flunkies so he doesn´t have to take the blame for their foulups. It´s sort of a ´don´t do what I say but do what I ask other people to do for me´ kind of presidency.
THE large company that handles prescriptions for the military RAN OUT of a basic, but essential medication that keeps people without an active thyroid alive. They were unable to fill prescriptions, so add shortages of essential medicines to up coming problems. Will diabetes meds and insulin be next? Is this part of the solution the government has to eliminate people who use medications? Wasn´t there a closed door meeting of all the large drug companies with Obama around the time Obamacare was passed? I was able to find my medication at a local pharmacy, but was forced to pay THREE co-pays for the normal, 90 day supply, instead of ONE co-pay with the normal supplier.
It´s useless to even mention it. Cruz and Lee have tried to do something and even the Republicans have bashed them. They are bashed on FOX by Brit Hume and Karl Rove. Even though the "folks" don´t want the damn thing, they point out everyone does not want the government shut down to hold the Dems feet to the fire (we have no other options). Two men in the senate against the whole Democrat and Republican party. See where standing up for your constituency gets you!
The Unaffordable Uncaring Act is very popular inside the Beltway, except for the Members of Congress. It is so good for the country that they cannot stand for the idea that it would apply to themselves. What´s wrong with that picture? UUA is a signature part of Ø and his notions of government. Vast hordes of unaccountable bureaucrats will impose rules and regulations, without the possibility of appeal. The Act does nothing about health care. It does, on the other hand, bring one sixth of the work force into the Union fold, from which dems can guarantee themselves permanent re-election. It is the thought of permanent status which leads dems to support the Act so fervently. It is about politics. All Politics, all the time. SHUT IT DOWN!
So his legacy is the most massive, unworkable, dangerous, costly, socialist and economy destroying act ever perpetrated by the government on the people and the nation? No wonder he was so satisfied the day it passed.
A real man and a leader would simply say that he made promises that were unworkable and would act to rescind the law. Instead, he pushes harder to keep it in place even though it is detrimental to the majority of those that will be impacted by it. The law is the scam of all scams.
Obamacare is not a free-market approach to providing health care. It is a fascist approach. Insurance companies are not allowed to decide the products, at what price, they will offer. Government bureaucrats who are, in turn, commanded by a small group of politicians, including “judges”, control their policies.
Who are the conservatives? They are the ones who accept humanity as it is and have the courage to keep government intervention to a minimum in society. Liberty and faith in mankind is the cornerstone of conservatism. If faith in mankind is a mistake, then no controlling politics can be redemptive. Treat people with civility and you will have a civil society.
Who are the socialists? They are the strident statists who believe that a cadre of politicians and bureaucrats can regulate mankind according to their ideas. The goal of their “leaders” is to find joy and ego satisfaction in exerting control over their “underlings”, who are the people. This is why academics find socialism so appealing. It is a convenient way for them to gain power.
Conservatives are anchored to reality while socialists are motivated by ego and ideas, and this is the source of their dismal failures. The greatest progress for mankind occurs when people are free of coercion by mindless masterminds.
As a consequence of socialist interventions in America, manipulative and unsavory people populate its politics.
Sadly, #18 is right, IMHO. Chief Justice Roberts could have stopped this - he could have stopped everything before Obama was elected. There certainly was plenty of evidence that Obama is ineligible to become the President. Once elected and Obamacare was challenged, Roberts could have swung the decision to "unconstitutional" instead of going the "tax" route.
So, what is it that Obama has on Roberts that an otherwise very smart, well-grounded, and educated person would accept the lies of a fraud?
It breaks my heart to know that a person schooled in Indiana [state of my birth and education] could be so stupid as Roberts. At least he wasn´t born in Indiana - he was born in New York, which may help explain why he was out-of-touch with reality. One of my best friends in college was from LaPorte, Indiana, where Roberts went to high school and was such an outstanding student and athlete. He certainly pulled the wool over President Bush´s eyes and that of some very distinguished legal minds.
Roberts´ sell out is perhaps even more scary, frightening than all the Leninist Marxism that is stacked into our communist medical takeover. Imagine almost 20% of our life saving innovative, technologically improving, commercial activity, taken over by postal level decider bureaucrats, and enforced by 16,000 new, green, IRS agent enforcers of this vast confused abortion of laws. As Laurel & Hardy might say to the communist influenced chief justice Roberts" "Look at the mess you´ve got us into, Ollie"
This history of Obama and his crew´s evolution of thinking about healthcare infuriates me even more about ObamaCare. Incredible I could despise it all even more. The genesis of ObamaCare and his belief in it was a political whim, a lark, a strategy worthy of a city council seat, not toying with the fate of our enormous and in many ways great health care system in this country. The eeny meeny miny moe selection of the issue over immigration and climate change... The article reeks of Obaman disregard and arrogance. And all of this not to mention the destruction of our liberty. Liberty, the keystone of this democracy. And why?... Because with that 2008 majority, they COULD. Such despicable jackasses!
Yup, and when it came time for Roberts to Check and Balance, he checked out. Obama bullied Roberts and it worked. We should teach our kids to confront bullies... I wonder if Roberts teaches his kids to cut deals with bullies.
Come January, when some number of Americans have bought insurance on the new health exchanges and are starting to use the services, you can expect another controversy to arise when many of them find out just how few doctors and hospitals they have access to. Call it “doc shock,” though the biggest outcry will not come when people try to schedule an appointment with their physician, but when someone gets sick and they learn they cannot go to whatever top-notch hospital they want, only to the hospital that is included in their plan. The problem varies across the country. In Washington,
Last month in San Francisco, President Obama called on Congress to enact comprehensive immigration reform. His speech was novel in many respects: The president used the backdrop of a community center in Chinatown to remind voters that immigrants are racially diverse. Also, for the first time in prepared remarks, the president signaled that he would consider a piecemeal approach to immigration reform long favored by Republican leaders in the House of Representatives. What got the most attention, however, was an unscripted exchange between Obama and Ju Hong, an undocumented UC Berkeley graduate who interrupted the president, calling on him to use
No matter how you spell it, ice is a four letter word Friday. Just ask folks living anywhere from Texas to Tennessee. Those areas are in the bulls eye of a treacherous ice storm, threatening to coat everything in its path with up to an inch of frozen water. Ice is slippery, but also heavy. It tends to bring down tree limbs and power lines when accumulations get thick. In Tennessee, Memphis Light, Gas and Water has 426,000 customers and is ready for the worst. "MLGW employees have been monitoring this winter storm situation and we have all of our
U.S. authorities have charged 49 Russian diplomats and their spouses with conspiracy to commit healthcare fraud, alleging that they stole $1.5 million from the American government via a years-long Medicaid scam. According to a criminal complaint made public today, the former and current diplomats lied about their income and citizenship status in order to qualify for the health benefits, which they used towards pregnancy care, births, and post-natal medical needs. They were also charged with conspiracy to steal government funds and make false statements relating to health care matters, reports the Associated Press. The complaint notes that medical costs associated with
Seduced and then disappointed by a hipster who turned out just to be another solipsistic boomer, now chastened yet still hopeful for change (if no longer swept away by the promise of Hope and Change), young Americans are ready to ditch Barack Obama. Things had been getting rocky for a while, but seeing the dawning of the Age of Obamacare in its full glory seems to have been the final indignity. The young will of course never acknowledge that maybe their old-fogey parents were right all along, but they do understand that what they thought was going to be a
John Dramani Mahama, who was in the African National Congress with Nelson Mandela, remembers what it was like when Prisoner No. 46664 came out of jail: Freedom on the African continent was a reality for which we were willing to fight. Nevertheless, I think we’d resigned ourselves to the likelihood that Mandela would remain a prisoner until his death, and South Africans would not experience equality until well after our lifetimes. Then on Feb. 11, 1990, the miraculous happened; Mandela was released. The world was spellbound. We wondered what we would do if we were in his shoes. We all waited for
President Obama’s message for the coming year is going to be a renewed focus on “income inequality.” Or as Bloomberg News puts it: Obama Decries Income Gap That Has Widened on His Watch. One of the president’s agenda items on this is raising the minimum wage. President Obama backs a proposal from Democratic members of Congress to raise it to $10.10 per hour. On that front, fast-food workers around the country are walking out on the job and holding protests today, with one Detroit fast-food employee arguing his $7.40 per hour constituted “slave wages.” Rallies and protests are scheduled in
It’s not the voters who hate Obamacare the most who are going to matter in next year’s elections. It’s the independents who frequently side with Democrats but could, if propelled by a distaste for the health care law, take a serious look at the GOP in 2014. And on this front, Democrats have a big problem with one of their most crucial constituencies—white women. Polling provided to National Journal by the Kaiser Family Foundation shows that white women have soured considerably on the law, especially in the month since its botched rollout. The skepticism runs especially deep among blue-collar women,
Some years back, I was having a discussion with several of my liberal friends, who asked what my objection to their ideology was. My answer was simple: because liberalism (or “progressivism,” as they now prefer), when taken to its nth degree, must and does end in fascism.(Snip)Now, five years later, we’re getting a pretty good idea of what that “fundamental transformation” entails: the remaking of the U.S. into a nation of billionaires and beggars, of “public servants” and supplicants, of an imperial capital in the reign of the Emperor Hussein and a threadbare, exploited heartland, which exists at the sufferance
Not the only interesting result here — Gallup’s also picking up the trend of millennials abandoning The One — but after so much post-election heavy breathing about his advantage with Latinos and how the GOP can win them back, it’s obviously the showstopper. (Snip for graphic)The glass-half-full read: This is proof positive that Democrats do not, in fact, own the Latino vote. They can blow it, and to some extent may already have. But then, we already knew that from previous Gallup polls. Back in August, they noted that O’s job approval among Latinos was conspicuously volatile, soaring to 80
"There´ll be a summit conference in the sky," smiled an Israeli intelligence official Wednesday morning when he learned of the assassination of Hassan Lakkis, the Hezbollah commander in charge of weapons development and advanced technological warfare, in a Beirut suburb around midnight on Tuesday, Dec. 3. The killing of Lakkis is yet another in the latest in a long series of assassinations of leading figures in what Israeli intelligence calls the "Radical Front," which comprises two countries -- Syria and Iran -- and three organizations: Hezbollah, the Palestinian Islamic Jihad, and Hamas. "We´re talking about a number of organizations and people
Kentucky Republican Sen. Rand Paul is traveling to Detroit this week armed with an ambitious plan to save the bankrupt city. In an interview with The Daily Caller on Wednesday, the Kentucky Republican senator previewed his trip to Michigan, where he will present his ideas for an “economic freedom zone” to the Detroit Economic Club on Friday. Paul acknowledged his idea is similar to those of former Rep. Jack Kemp’s “enterprise zones,” which similarly used incentives to encourage private sector investment in urban areas. “What we’ve done is taken enterprise zones and really given them enterprise zones on steroids,” Paul told TheDC. The plan
I have never been much of a conspiracy theorist. For me it was always Oswald by himself from the Texas School Book Depository and nothing in the intervening fifty years has disabused me of this notion. For the most part, I’m an Occam’s Razor kind of guy — the most obvious explanation is likely to be true. (Snip) To put it bluntly, Occam’s Razor has moved. Things that were once possibilities now seem almost certainties to me. Principal among those is that Obama’s academic records are perpetually unavailable for a reason — and that reason is most likely that they reveal
One of President Obama´s chief political assets has been his ability to excite young people like almost no politician in history. But the days of America´s youth fawning over the president are over. A new Harvard University Institute of Politics poll released Wednesday confirms what other surveys have shown in recent months: Millennials have soured on Obama so much this year that their opinion of him largely mirrors the American public´s. Even though Obama does not ever have to face another election, he should be worried about the findings for a couple of reasons, which we will dive into momentarily.
A stunning new study unveiled on Fox News´ Hannity finds that President Barack Obama’s White House calendar records just one face-to-face meeting between Obama and his Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Kathleen Sebelius in the more than three-and-a-half years leading up to the disastrous Obamacare launch. The startling statistic comes from a new Government Accountability Institute (GAI) analysis of Obama’s own official White House calendar, as well as the Politico presidential calendar, and raises new questions about Obama’s executive leadership and management throughout the implementation of his singular legislative achievement. More alarming still, the president’s schedule lists 277 private
[Video] President Obama on Wednesday declared that addressing income inequality would be the focus of “all” of the White House’s efforts “for the rest of my presidency.” In a sweeping address that touched on raising the minimum wage, investing in infrastructure and ending tax breaks for the wealthy, Obama warned that the American economy has become “profoundly unequal,” declaring economic mobility the “challenge of our time.” “The combined trends of increasing inequality and decreasing mobility pose a fundamental threat to the American dream, our way of life, and what we stand for around the globe,” he said in an hour-long
Just over two weeks ago, MSNBC host Martin Bashir delivered a harsh piece of commentary that culminated in the suggestion that someone should “s-h-i-t” in former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin‘s (R-AK) mouth. Bashir offered an abject apology on his next broadcast, but a chorus of critics continued to demand action against the host. After a reported “vacation” for the host earlier this week, Bashir announced, Wednesday afternoon, that MSNBC and Martin Bashir are parting ways. Here’s the statement from Martin Bashir, via email: After making an on-air apology, I asked for permission to take some additional time out around the Thanksgiving holiday. Upon
Speaker John Boehner said his party should support gay Republican congressional candidates and urged his colleagues to “be a little more sensitive” when running against women. “Some of our members just aren’t as sensitive as they ought to be,” Boehner said. When asked if he thinks his party should support gay candidates, Boehner simply said: “I do.”
Amid an array of “knock-out” attacks against a number of Jews in Brooklyn’s Crown Heights neighborhood, a city councilwoman pointed to the success of the Jewish community as triggering the aggression. Councilwoman-elect Laurie Cumbo emphasized that while she “admire[s] the Jewish community immensely” for its work ethic, black teens may see it differently. “While I personally regard this level of tenacity, I also recognize that for others, the accomplishments of the Jewish community triggers feelings of resentment, and a sense that Jewish success is not also their success,” Cumbo, who was recently elected, wrote in a letter. Chief among the issues
Hardly a week goes by without Hillary Clinton receiving another award. Last month she was named a “Global Champion” by the International Medical Corps, received the American Patriot Award at the National Defense University Foundation and the Hermandad Award from the Mexican American Leadership Initiative. [Snip] At this rate, if a bunch of elderly left-wing Swedes toss her the Nobel Peace Prize early on, the way they did to Obama, it will barely rate mention among all the other glittering trophies that have been bestowed on a woman whose only actual accomplishment was being married to a crooked governor with
America is facing a wave of strikes by its fast-food workers on Thursday a day after Barack Obama warned that inequality in the USA had soared to the point that it now posed "a fundamental threat to the American dream". Low-paid workers in McDonalds, Kentucky Fried Chicken and other fast-food outlets in 100 cities across America were due to start rolling strikes to protest at the low level of America´s $7.25 (£4.45) federal minimum wage. The strikes are the latest part of a mushrooming publicity campaign for higher wages among those working so-called "McJobs", with fast-food restaurants seen as a
The world premiere of the “Ballad for Trayvon Martin for Orchestra and Jazz Quartet” is set for tonight. Princeton University’s director of its jazz-studies program composed the work in honor of the Florida teen. Anthony D. J. Branker told the Star-Ledger that the piece is intended to “be a form of healing” after Martin’s death and the controversial court case that followed it. The ballad, which will be performed by the university’s official orchestra and jazz ensemble, is intended to be a tribute to victims of racial violence, Branker explained. He hopes that the performance will be “one that speaks to
The president put in his ask to Disney CEO Bob Iger at a private meeting with entertainment moguls during his Nov. 26 visit to Jeffrey Katzenberg´s DreamWorks Animation. [snip] If you have any doubt as to how much of a sports junkie Barack Obama is, check in with the entertainment moguls who attended a private briefing with the president Nov. 26 before his speech at Jeffrey Katzenberg´s DreamWorks Animation campus in Glendale. At the end of the conversation -- which touched on a myriad of topics, from piracy to Iran -- Obama revealed what´s at the top of his bucket
A new report from the Texas-based Quorum Report, published by longtime Texas journalist Harvey Kronberg, says that House Speaker John Boehner plans to push amnesty legislation through the House, after the primary filing deadline for candidates. The move would prevent Tea Party from challenging GOP lawmakers who support amnesty in 2014. Scott Braddock reported on Tuesday that “in recent weeks, various Texas business interests have told Quorum Report that Boehner has been telling them that he will start holding immigration votes not long after the filing deadline has passed.”
