Sen. Ted Cruz said Friday that Republican senators should, in effect, filibuster the House-passed continuing resolution in the Senate. The Texas Republican is calling on his colleagues to oppose limiting debate on it, warning against what he calls procedural trickery. “Step two is the Senate, where all accounts suggest Harry Reid plans to use procedural gimmicks to try to add funding back in for Obamacare,” Cruz said. “If Reid pursues this plan — if he insists on using a 50-vote threshold to fund Obamacare with a partisan vote of only Democrats — then I hope that every Senate Republican will stand together
I trust Ted. Senator Cruz, if you are reading this, take the heat and prepare the meat. Let them holler, let them yell, let them publish the nasty articles that they don´t sign - just take the heat and prepare the meat. Take their liberal skin off in that filibuster.
Maybe Cruz should have spent less time self aggrandizing , fundraising and running down fellow Republicans ( non of whom ever voted for Obamacare ) and more time trying to coordinate and strategize. Democrats control 55 Senate seats , Reid will only need 51 votes. Cruz has taken a winning Republican campaign issue and turned it into an absolute disaster.
FTA- "Of course, if GOP senators actually follow Cruz and Hoskins’ advice, they will, in effect, be voting against a bill that includes Obamacare defunding. The vote to strike that language is not expected until after cloture is invoked, and it will take only 51 votes to succeed. That’s why Cruz may ultimately be proved correct when he says Democrats have the votes to send the measure back to the House, without Obamacare funding."
Remember "The Flim-Flam Man"? As Jonah Goldberg said on Fox this afternoon, the scams in the past collapsed when the scammer disappeared. This time the scammer is hanging around and continuing the ruse. When it´s over, Cruz will have elevated his presidential creds (he hopes) and the rest of us will be staring at a 2014 election disaster.
We´ve had a few Poster 8, on this site who bash Cruz regularly. Trolls???? I like him no matter his tactics. He has to fight Harry the Idiot Reid and the rest of the whining dems. Let´s see what the American people do in 2014. If we dislike Obamacare now and it eventually passes, disaster for the dems and especially for us.
I believe a filibuster will gain the attention of the country´s yuts. Remember, they were impressed by Rand Paul´s filibuster. The yuts who voted for o. twice need to hear the truth about O-scare. Yuts appreciate rebellion, perhaps it could be a good thing this time.
All Senate Republicans to filibuster the bill until/unless Harry Reid publicly promises not to strip defunding Obamacare from the bill.
But in any case, a Senate bill, whether it defunds Obamacare or not, goes back to the House, which can then restore whatever language Reid strips out, repass the bill and send it back to the Senate. Repeat as necessary.
What is important is for all the Senate Republicans to vote against any bill that does not defund Obamacare. That will buck up House Republicans, showing them that all of the Senate Republicans are standing with them, in deed as well as word.
The last time a divided U.S. Congress passed a budget deal, President Ronald Reagan was denying he traded arms for Iranian hostages and the Space Shuttle Challenger explosion was fresh in Americans´ minds. But a House Republican and a Democratic senator hope they´ve found a compromise that federal legislators can live with. Washington state Democrat Patty Murray and Wisconsin Republican Paul Ryan announced a proposal late on Tuesday that Ryan said focuses ´on where the common ground is´ between America´s two political parties, a deal that would balance the federal budget ten years from now and sidestep the threat of government
Junk Science: Researchers have discovered a chain of smoldering active volcanoes under the West Antarctic ice sheet — which happens to be the ice sheet that climate hysterics say is proof of man-caused global warming. The 2004 science fiction movie "The Day After Tomorrow" — and the operative word here is "fiction" — opened with a portion of the West Antarctic ice sheet shearing off as a prelude to planetary doom. But if the researchers depicted in the film had looked deep into the widening crevice, they might have noticed a string of active volcanoes lurking under nearly a mile of Antarctic
Nuclear Option: The first spoil of Harry Reid´s shredding of the Senate´s historic filibuster rules has been confirmed to the D.C. Circuit. Patricia Millett is another radical activist masquerading as judge. As chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee in 1990, now-Vice President Joseph Biden threw a fit after it was clear David Souter was going to be confirmed to the Supreme Court, warning the first Bush administration that no more "stealth" nominees would be getting through. Liberals threw an even bigger fit the next year when Clarence Thomas told Biden´s committee he had no "personal opinion on the outcome in Roe v.
Income Gap: As President Obama laments America´s growing income inequality, a new government report shows the futility of his calls for ever-more wealth redistribution. To deflect attention from ObamaCare´s failures, the president this month trotted out his income inequality chestnut. "A dangerous and growing inequality," he intoned, "has jeopardized middle-class America´s basic bargain." He argued, "as a trickle-down ideology became more prominent, taxes were slashed for the wealthiest, while investments in things that make us all richer, like schools and infrastructure, were allowed to wither." Apparently, nobody bothered to brief the president before he delivered this speech. Fact is, federal transportation spending has
RUSH: Lakeside, California. Hi, Chris. Great to have you on the program. Hello. CALLER: Good morning. Mega dittos, Rush. RUSH: Thank you. Thanks very much. CALLER: Hey, I´m extremely concerned about what´s going on, and I just think people are still in major denial here about what´s going on. My husband and I recent -- RUSH: With what? CALLER: Well, with Obamacare and what really is the purpose of it. We went up to the Reagan library, which I´d never been up before, and I actually got rejuvenated by reading all his wonderful quotes and his positive and his love for his country and all
Greenpeace is warning children the world over Santa Claus might not be bringing gifts to them because of global warming. A “Save the Arctic” video released by the environmental group shows a sullen and dirty Santa – played by Jim Carter of “Downton Abbey” — in a dark, concrete room with water dripping from the ceiling. “Dear children, I regrettably bring bad tidings. For some time now, melting ice here in the North Pole has made our operations and our day-to-day life intolerable and impossible and there may be no alternative but to cancel Christmas,” Santa warned in the Greenpeace video. Santa claims
RUSH: If I may -- and I can because it´s who I am and it´s my program -- if I may be serious for just a brief moment. For those of you who are relatively young in the audience, you may find it hard to believe this, but there was a day not that long ago -- where I don´t care what party he came from -- no president would join this collection of people, for whatever occasion going on in South Africa. There was a day where the United States and its president would not deign to associate with
RUSH: Mount Airy, North Carolina. George, you´re first. Great to have you. CALLER: Rush, it´s an honor to talk to you on the radio today. RUSH: Thank you, sir. CALLER: I´m calling about, obviously, Nelson Mandela. I´ve been doing a lot of history of South Africa. I travel with people from United States to Robben Island on a yearly basis, and we do a lot of history of, you know, Nelson Mandela and so forth. RUSH: You travel to Robben Island on a yearly basis, you said? CALLER: Yes. RUSH: With people from America? CALLER: From America, yes. I´m a former South African living in the United
On Friday we analyzed a fatuous article in which the Washington Post´s Ryan Cooper tried to reassure his left-liberal readers that they needn´t worry about the next phase of the ObamaCare disaster--that is, the third phase, known as "adverse selection." Adverse selection will occur when young, healthy adults fail to purchase insurance at inflated prices, which ObamaCare needs them to do to sustain the artificially low premiums of the middle-aged and those with pre-existing conditions. Well, you´ll never guess who´s terrified of adverse selection. "Only 29% of uninsured young people now say they plan to sign up for Obamacare," warns an
RUSH: I tell you, folks, it´s a sick world out there. It is just an absolutely depraved and sick world out there. It´s so depraved and sick I don´t know if I can tell you about this. Well, here. No, I´ll save it. I´ll save it. I´m not gonna start the show with this. It would be better to start the show with the soap opera. Can you believe it? This is a great illustration of how the soap opera script works. Great illustration of how the behavior of the Drive-Bys, who are the script writers for the daily soap
House-Senate negotiators are close to a modest budget accord to avoid another government shutdown, but suddenly the White House is introducing a last-minute demand. Five years into an economic recovery that President Obama often hails as miraculous, he wants to extend unemployment benefits one more time. Maybe it´s time to consider whether the big expansion of unemployment insurance has increased joblessness. In 2009 the Obama Administration and Congress extended jobless benefits for up to 99 weeks. The point was to help people through the recession, but now the jobless rate is 7%, down from 10%, and the White House still wants
Media: Russian ruler Vladimir Putin dissolved his state news agency on Monday, apparently for being insufficiently fawning. President Obama doesn´t have to worry about that with the dominant media here. The ex-KGB officer ruling an eighth of the planet´s inhabited land for nearly a decade and a half now, with no end in sight thanks to rigged elections, has abolished RIA Novosti and replaced it with a kind of reborn Radio Moscow. "Radio Putin," as it should be called, will propagandize to the rest of the world. RIA actually described the purge it is victim of as heralding "a tightening of state
On his way to the podium at the memorial ceremony for former South African president Nelson Mandela, President Obama walked down the line of dignitaries, greeting other leaders there to pay their respects. Among the hands shaken: that of Cuban leader Raul Castro. Obama neither made a special effort to shake Castro’s hand nor to avoid him. A snub might have been awkward: In his speech, Obama praised Mandela’s “greatest gift” as “his recognition that we are all bound together in ways that can be invisible to the eye; that there is a oneness to humanity; that we achieve ourselves by
The Obama State Department has finally released a second round of photos revealing the harrowing devastation wrought by a terrorist attack on the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi on Sept. 11, 2012. The new photographs depict rampant damage to the consulate. They show charred walls, smoldering fires, Arabic graffiti defacing exterior walls, and scattered debris throughout. The extent of the damage would lead any reasonably serious person to conclude that this was a cold, calculated attack, carefully coordinated to mark the 11th anniversary of Sept. 11, 2001. Unfortunately for the American people, the Obama-Clinton-Rice cabal that led to the Benghazi cover-up was
A black fashion student says he was brutally attacked by a gang of Hasidic men who shouted anti-gay slurs at him while he was walking through Williamsburg after a night of partying, the Daily News has learned. Taj Patterson, 22, was headed home to Fort Greene around 4:30 a.m. on Dec. 1 when he says more than a dozen ultra-Orthodox Jewish men began assaulting him on Flushing Ave. and yelling, “Stay down, f----t!”
A “presidential selfie” featuring President Barack Obama, British Prime Minister David Cameron, and Denmark’s Prime Minister Helle Thorning-Schmidt at Nelson Mandela’s memorial service began making the rounds this morning, but it’s the person not included in the frame who caught everyone’s attention: As anyone with two eyes and a Twitter account has noticed, Michelle Obama does not appear amused. Of course, though a picture says a thousand words, not all of those words are necessarily true. FLOTUS might not have even known the photo was taking place. Or she could disapprove of funeral selfies. Either way.
Just how much do many Hollywood liberals hate conservatives? In an interview with Playboy, Ben Affleck said, "When I watch a guy [on film] I know is a big Republican, part of me thinks, I probably wouldn’t like this person if I met him": PLAYBOY: You developed a political profile campaigning for presidential candidates Al Gore, John Kerry and Barack Obama. How did that come about? AFFLECK: I grew up in a house with a mother who was a teacher and a Freedom Rider—very left-wing Democrats living in a heterogeneous working-class neighborhood. I picked up a lot of those values there, and I
MSNBC host Melissa Harris-Perry opened her program over the weekend with a commentary about the Affordable Care Act’s colloquial moniker: “Obamacare.” She said that the word was originally created as a “derogatory term,” designed by white men as a way to delegitimize President Barack Obama and his achievement. However, she said that the term will soon be synonymous with all of Obama’s accomplishments and she urged her audience to use the term with pride. “I want to talk today about a controversial word. It’s a word that has been with us for years, and like it or not, it’s indelibly
Barack Obama has arrived in South Africa to lead the American delegation at a memorial service for former South African President Nelson Mandela in Johannesburg. But his party is reportedly stuck in traffic and he is said to have arrived late at the stadium for the ceremony. [Snip] But Mr Clinton, Mr Carter and his wife Rosalynn have all traveled separately to the event. According to reports, Mr Obama and his delegation are stuck in a lines of traffic caused by tens of thousands of people making their way to the event. Mr Obama is among the foreign leaders who
President Obama, former president George W. Bush and their wives departed Washington Monday morning on Air Force One on their way to a memorial service in South Africa for Nelson Mandela. The president and first lady Michelle Obama are being accompanied by Mr. Bush, former first lady Laura Bush and former Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton on the flight to Johannesburg. A four-hour memorial service will be held on Tuesday for South Africa’s first black president. Mr. Mandela, the anti-apartheid revolutionary, died on Thursday at age 95. Former President Bill Clinton and daughter Chelsea are traveling separately to South Africa. Former President
President Obama will make remarks on Nelson Mandela´s legacy during a memorial service Tuesday for the late South African freedom fighter, officials said Monday. "We do expect President Obama to speak as part of the program," said Ben Rhodes, deputy national security adviser for strategic communications. The president and first lady Michelle Obama departed Monday for Johannesburg, where a Mandela memorial service will be held in a soccer stadium. Obama, who will also spend time with the Mandela family, is not scheduled to hold any bilateral meetings with foreign leaders while in South Africa, Rhodes said. Rhodes also said the
All three networks on Monday morning highlighted the appearance of the Obamas at the Kennedy Center Honors, but only ABC fawned over "fashion win" of First Lady. Lara Spencer enthused that " one of the stars of the show was Michelle Obama." An excited Spencer explained that Mrs. Obama looked "absolutely ravishing in a flowing teal gown as she accompanied President Obama." The co-host declared, "Another big fashion win for the First Lady. CBS This Morning offered a full report on the various performers who were honored, but co-anchor Charlie Rose avoided ABC´s superlatives.
Former Secretary of State Colin Powell believes the United States should have a socialized, single-payer healthcare system similar to those in Canada and Europe. “I think universal health care is one of the things we should really be focused on, and I hope that will happen,” Powell reportedly said last week. “Whether it’s Obamacare, or son of Obamacare, I don’t care. As long as we get it done.” The Puget Sound Business Journal reported Powell´s remarks at the Prostate Cancer Survivors Celebration Breakfast at the University of Washington´s Cancer Research Center. Powell, the Republican who supported Barack Obama during the last two presidential
Say goodbye to the 60-watt incandescent bulb. This year manufacturers started phasing out 100w and 75w bulbs. On January 1 it will become illegal to import or manufacture traditional 60w and 40w bulbs too. Time to stock up? Not so fast. First, check out Cree’s energy-sipping new 75-watt replacement bulb. I used to be outraged over the federal government’s draconian moves to outlaw traditional lightbulbs. For 100 years we’ve lived and thrived under the warm glow of incandescent lightbulbs. Aside from the fact that 90% of the electricity used by the bulbs is radiated in the form of heat rather than
