House Republicans See No
Discipline Over Benghazi Attack

New York Times, by Eric Schmitt

Washington - Senior House Republicans on Wednesday accused the State Department of failing to hold senior department officials accountable for security failures that contributed to the attack on the American diplomatic mission in Benghazi, Libya, last year in which four Americans were killed. “No State Department personnel have been fired or even disciplined,” said Representative Ed Royce, Republican of California who heads the House Foreign Affairs Committee. “No one has missed a paycheck.” Mr. Royce’s comments opened the first of three hearings this week that the House

Heads rolling would have brought unwanted attention and put a permanent stain on PIAPS´ 2016 campaign - not that the stain on the blue dress did anything to damage her husband politically.

Scientists who serve on a panel that’s sort of the antithesis to the U.N.-tied International Panel on Climate Change — the Nongovernmental International Panel on Climate Change — said the scare-mongering that’s been making media rounds about dwindling food supplies due to atmospheric fluctuations is just that, nothing but bunk. “All across the planet, the historical increase in the atmosphere’s CO2 concentration has stimulated vegetative productivity,” said the report, “Climate Change Reconsidered II: Biological Impacts,” Fox News said. “This observed stimulation, or greening of the Earth, has occurred in spite of many real and

Washington - Senate Republicans on Wednesday blocked legislation meant to close the pay gap between men and women, framing an election-year fight between the parties over whose policies are friendlier to women. The bill was an attempt by Democrats to press what they see as their electoral advantage among women in the coming midterm elections, but they fell short of the 60 votes they needed to prevent a filibuster and advance the legislation. (Snip) Republican lawmakers have said that given existed anti-discrimination laws, the legislation is redundant and is a transparent attempt by Democrats to distract from President Obama’s

Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) on Tuesday accused Secretary of State John Kerry of presiding over a “trifecta” of foreign policy disasters. McCain lambasted his former Senate colleague at a hearing in which Kerry faced wide-ranging criticism about the administration’s handling of crises in the Middle East and Ukraine. “I think you’re about to hit the trifecta,” McCain declared. “Geneva II [a Syrian peace meeting] was a total collapse, as I predicted to you that it would be. ... Dan Stevens, the spokesman for Westmoreland County emergency management, says the suspect is in custody at Franklin Regional High School in Murrysville. That´s about 15 miles east of Pittsburgh. It wasn´t immediately clear if the suspect and the victims are students, adults, or a mix of both. But Stevens says it does not appear any of the victims suffered life-threatening injuries. It´s deep, it’s dark and it’s mysterious. It could also swallow the world’s tallest building, end-to-end, four times — and still have room for more. The Tasmania-sized area of the southern Indian Ocean where Flight MH370 is believed to have crashed is not only tempestuous and broad. It is also chillingly deep — so much so that natural light cannot penetrate the blackness and even whales cannot dive to the bottom. As the hunt for the missing Malaysia Airlines jet drags on, we look at the mysteries of the sea and examine the search challenges below the waves.

Over the past few weeks, I’ve found myself in a bunch of conversations in which the unspoken assumption was that the main goal of life is to maximize happiness. That’s normal. When people plan for the future, they often talk about all the good times and good experiences they hope to have. We live in a culture awash in talk about happiness. In one three-month period last year, more than 1,000 books were released on Amazon on that subject. But notice this phenomenon. When people remember the past, they don’t only talk about happiness. It is often the ordeals that seem most significant. People shoot for happiness but feel

When friends and family members gathered recently at the White House for a private celebration of Michelle Obama’s 50th birthday, one of the invited partygoers was a former paid FBI Mafia informant. That same man attended February’s state dinner in honor of French President Francois Hollande. He was seated with his girlfriend at a table adjacent to President Barack Obama, who is likely unaware that, according to federal agents, his guest once interacted with members of four of New York City’s five organized crime families. LONDON - Peaches Geldof, the wild-child second daughter of concert organizer Bob Geldof who worked as a model, a television presenter and a fashion writer and filled the pages of British tabloids with her late-night antics, has died at age 25. There was no immediate word on the cause of her death at her home in Wrotham, Kent, southeast England. Her father said in a statement Monday: "Peaches has died. We are beyond pain." "She was the wildest, funniest, cleverest, wittiest and the most bonkers of all of us," he said. "Writing 'was' destroys me afresh. What a beautiful child. How is this possible that we will not see her again? How is that bearable? We loved her and will cherish her forever."

Ms. Lerner faces a vote in the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee on Thursday that could begin the process of accusing her of contempt of Congress. A caveat right off the bat: RAND’s estimate only runs through March 28 whereas the actual deadline for signing up was March 31st. Given the crush of traffic on Healthcare.gov in late March, many more people could have signed up over those last three days than were captured by these numbers. On the other hand, the White House was claiming six million sign-ups as of March 27. There’s no way to reconcile that with RAND’s data. One of them is wrong. Maybe both, in fact. There’s a big spike in Medicaid, just as everyone expected. There’s a less big but
