A struggling President Obama is calling for help from members of his first-term A-Team, who have left the White House for other jobs. With his poll numbers falling and his second-term floundering so far, Obama has sought help from the former aides who helped catapult him to the presidency. When the president held a recent strategy meeting on the Syria conflict, for example, he invited former political adviser David Plouffe, former White House press secretary Robert Gibbs, former chief speechwriter Jon Favreau and former National Security Council spokesman Tommy Vietor to attend. Ex-advisers like Plouffe, Gibbs and David Axelrod routinely
And they say that aides need to do a better job reasserting the narrative that Obama is, as one put it, the “aggressive champion of the middle class.”
If Obama hadn´t screwed the economy with Obamacare, middle class jobs wouldn´t be disappearing. Obama isn´t a champion of the middle class - he is the monster trying to kill it. I think he envisions himself as the "Lord of the Manor" and the rest of us are the serfs who have to be beholden to him in order to survive.
The group listed are all "spinners" for Obama. They all lack international and military experience, and none are noted for their entrepreneurial acumen. Their roles with Obama are to create messaging for the media lackeys that simply reprint/broadcast the message to their audiences. They also act as the "unnamed sources" within the WH that NYT, WaPo and AP love to use in supposedly well researched stories. Finally, all of them, whether current or former spinners, hint to gullible news people that there may be a position at the WH, State or Defense for someone with your unique talents.
The "magic" of the first term was not due to his staff. It was due to the success of blinding the American people with the help of media. His blackness blinded his critics.
But he has been somewhat exposed and his quotes from the past are taking on different meanings.
As usual, the conservatives called it right and the ignorant dolts who were blind have brought this upon us. The same ones who are blind to the welfare state, government waste, etc. the same ones who now long for Hillary Clinton.
Last week, President Obama´s pollster Joel Benenson sent a memo to congressional Democrats encouraging them to refocus attention on the economy and ignore the health care chaos that has consumed the administration for the last two months. The three-page set of talking points argued that the media´s relentless focus on the Obamacare website is a "distraction" from more important work on the minds of voters. But for Senate Democrats who backed the unpopular legislation, avoiding the subject isn´t so easy. Republicans are armed with reams of polling data showing how the health care law could overturn the Democrats´ majority, and are
There are many arguments today about the substance of the agreement between Iran and the P5+1. But there is a prior question: is there really an agreement at all? Looking at the text of the “agreement,” the most striking thing is the conditional or aspirational language: The goal for these negotiations is to reach a mutually-agreed long-term comprehensive solution that would ensure Iran´s nuclear program will be exclusively peaceful….This comprehensive solution would build on these initial measures….There would be additional steps in between the initial measures and the final step….This comprehensive solution would involve a reciprocal, step-by step process…. Would,
The Cleveland Clinic, which is ranked among the top four U.S. hospitals, is making layoffs and cutting its budget more than $100 million as a direct result of the Affordable Care Act, the Daily Caller has learned. “The cuts for 2014, about half of those are related to the Affordable Care Act…We anticipate a reduction in workforce,” Cleveland Clinic executive director of communications Eileen Sheil said in an interview with TheDC. The Cleveland Clinic is reducing its 2014 budget by $330 million.
Many people take pride in defying the conventions of society. Those conventions of society are also known as civilization. Defying them wholesale means going back to barbarism. Barbarians with electronic devices are still barbarians. After the government shutdown crisis, the one thing that congressional Democrats and Republicans finally agreed on was to kick the can down the road a few more months, so that we can go through all this again — and perhaps again after that.
In a crackdown on genetic testing that is offered directly to consumers, the Food and Drug Administration has demanded that 23andMe immediately cease selling and marketing its DNA testing service until it receives clearance from the agency. In a scathing warning letter that the agency posted on its website on Monday, it said that 23andMe had failed to provide adequate evidence that its product, Personal Genome Service, provided accurate results. “F.D.A. is concerned about the public health consequences of inaccurate results from the P.G.S. device,” the agency said in its letter. Of the personal genome testing companies, 23andMe may be the best known,
Amazon recently unveiled an agreement with the U.S. Postal Service to deliver packages in some markets on Sunday, the latest initiative by the e-commerce giant to be consumers’ first and final shopping destination. Amazon will deliver packages from its warehouses to Postal Service sites late Saturday or Sunday, and, under the terms of the deal, the agency will truck them to consumers’ doorsteps. Outside of some Sunday delivery during the Christmas holiday season, the deal marks the first broad Sunday d
The agreement reached late Saturday night between Iran and the United States — and the rest of the United Nations’ “P5+1” gang — will enhance Iran’s ability to produce nuclear weapons whenever it decides to do so. It makes war in the Middle East nearly a certainty, rather than protecting us against it. For Obama — and while he is president, for us — there is no responsibility so great that it cannot be sacrificed to political expediency, no duty so grave that it cannot be ignored. America has an obligation to itself, and to allies such as Israel, to prevent Iran
One day earlier this month, Jim Vidmar bought 1,000 fake Twitter accounts for $58 from an online vendor in Pakistan. He then programmed the accounts to "follow" the Twitter account of rapper Dave Murrell, who calls himself Fyrare and pays Mr. Vidmar to boost his standing on the social network. Mr. Vidmar´s fake accounts also rebroadcast Mr. Murrell´s tweets, amplifying his Twitter voice. Mr. Murrell says he sometimes buys Twitter ads to raise his profile, "but you´ll get more with Jim." He says many Twitter users try to make their followings look bigger than they are. "If you´re not padding your numbers,
No, you didn’t have to break these eggs to make an omelette: The latest, and probably most durable defense of Obamacare’s launch trouble appeals to the ancient liberal urge to redistribute. Pushed by semi-official Obamacare spinner Jonathan Gruber, this line most recently suffused a piece by John Harwood on the New York Times front page. The idea is basically that Obamacare is secretly (“shhh!” says Tim Noah) redistributive. Obama can’t use the term lest he scare the right, says Harwood. And if youre going to be redistributive, well, there have to be losers : “’Americans want a fair and fixed insurance
Toronto’s crack-smoking Mayor Rob Ford is the most famous Canadian in the world. The Charlie Sheen of politics opens his mouth simply to change feet. He’s certainly worked over the Canadian brand, which isn’t all bad. Americans think that Canadians are boring, nice and polite folks who apologize to machinery. In a way, it’s gratifying to be noticed for something other than the weather. But if Americans think Ford is an anomaly, they’re giving Canada way too much credit. In truth, the country is awash in scandal.
Appearing on CNN´s Piers Morgan Tonight earlier this week, actor Richard Dreyfuss made some refreshing comments about the National Rifle Association, saying that they are best group to turn to for solutions on gun violence while noting they are experts and were founded in order to education people about firearms. "I don´t think the NRA is a villian," Dreyfuss said. "I think we should turn this over to the people who are expert at this and the original mandate of the NRA was to train responsible gun ownership and the NRA should handle it. They should train excellence in gun ownership." He
James Carville threw in the towel on defending the Obamacare rollout last night on Fox Business, calling the disaster a "joke" and a "self-inflicted wound." "I look at these polls, and I got to tell you, I think it is all self-inflicted. I think this rollout, which I think they got to get right, was a disaster, it was a joke,” he told Fox Business Network on Thursday. “And there was a way to talk about, you know, how many people would get to keep their health insurance in a way that wasn’t causing this much trouble. I’m one of the
Conservatives have for years attempted to put our finger upon precisely why Barack Obama strikes us as queer in precisely the way he does. There is an alienness about him, which in the fever swamps is expressed in all that ridiculous Kenyan-Muslim hokum, but his citizen-of-the-world shtick is strictly sophomore year — the great globalist does not even speak a foreign language. Obama has been called many things — radical, socialist — labels that may have him dead to rights at the phylum level but not down at his genus or species. His social circle includes an alarming number of
Though the Obama administration said that individuals making under $45,960 would get Obamacare subsidies, low-income young people in most of America´s big cities who relied on that promise are discovering they will be ineligible for them. According to a CNN report, though young people are now required to purchase insurance under Obamacare or pay a fine, "many low-income younger Americans won´t get any subsidy at all" because, as the Obama administration claims, the "cost of insurance is lower than the government initially expected." In April, Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius "told a
The sounds of Christmas in the Obama White House mean James Taylor, Mariah Carey and Nat King Cole. “The kids tease me that they know it’s Christmas when I pull out my playlist,” First Lady Michelle Obama tells Ladies’ Home Journal. The holiday tunes are accompanied by hot chocolate and a fire in the Yellow Oval room as President Obama and his family decorate their tree. “Christmas has always been a special time in my household,” Michelle Obama says in the December/January issue. “Growing up, we lived in a little-bitty apartment, but my mom put her heart and soul into decorating that house.”
Noel Ignatiev, a professor at Massachusetts College of Art, has for years advocated the total elimination of Caucasians. During his final lecture before retirement last Monday, he told his white male students "you don’t deserve to live. You are a cancer, you’re a disease." NOEL IGNATIEV: If you are a white male, you don’t deserve to live. You are a cancer, you’re a disease, white males have never contributed anything positive to the world! They only murder, exploit and oppress non-whites! At least a white woman can have sex with a black man and make a brown baby but what can a
Appearing on Arsenio Hall’s talk show over the weekend, ?Jesse Jackson defended both President Obama, who he said has faced heretofore unseen advsersity as president, as well as Jackson’s embattled son, who he said “had the best voting record in the Congress” before he was sentenced by unfair laws. On the president, Jackson praised him for “serving us well against the most hostility an American president has ever had” and “more attempts to derail his legislation then in the history of the country.” Between job creation and his efforts in Iraq, President Obama has “maintained a kind of dignity” without stooping
Normally, I don´t traffic much in gossip, but the case of Valerie Jarrett is different. She may well be the most powerful woman in America, and almost certainly is the most powerful member of the Obama administration. The adjective "shadowy" definitely applies to this woman who enjoys her power through her relationship to the President, having never been confirmed by Senate hearings. Her title as "Senior Adviser" to the President barely scratches the surface of her real power. President Obama has time for his 150+ rounds of golf, his extensive television watching, and his expertise on March Madness bracketology because ValJar,
The Obamacare rollout remains a debacle, but now enough time has passed that smart people are beginning to dissect what went wrong. So far, the best take I´ve seen comes from Internet pioneer Clay Shirky, who notes that the politicians weren´t listening to the people doing the actual work. I was talking about this to my Administrative Law class not long ago. I had told them that there are few real secrets in D.C. because everyone sleeps with everyone else. A student then asked why both the administration and the GOP seemed to have been blindsided by the Obamacare website problems. "I guess nobody was sleeping with the techies,"
America has long had two embassies in Italy: One for the country, the other for the Holy See. Barbie Latza Nadeau on why soon there will be only one. Citing security concerns without naming a specific threat, the U.S. State Department is planning to shutter its embassy to the Holy See inside the lush Villa Domiziana overlooking the Circus Maximus and Palatine Hill in central Rome. The embassy, which has been in operation since 1984 when Ronald Reagan and Pope John Paul II signed an accord, will essentially be swallowed up by the larger, more influential U.S. embassy to Italy.
Located just 50 miles off the U.S. coast, north of New York City, sits Petra, a heart-shaped island that now belongs to Brad Pitt, after Angelina reportedly shelled out £12.2million to buy it for his 50th birthday. Pitt is apparently an architect fanatic, so when Jolie discovered that the island´s only two homes were designed by Frank Lloyd Wright, she was sold. Pitt once said,“When I discovered Charles Rennie Mackintosh and Frank Lloyd Wright, it changed my life.” A source revealed that “as soon as Angelina heard the island was on the market she arranged a viewing. She was really impressed.
Everyone has a favorite recipe, find it in the back of a kitchen drawer, call your mom, see if you still have that dog-eared copy of the Joy of Cooking. It´s on the back of an old electric bill stuck inside the back cover. Find it and post it for all your LCom friends. If you have a special request let us know, someone can find it somewhere.
"I cannot tell a lie." That´s the signature line from a classic American story. When the nation´s first president was asked as a boy if he had chopped down his father´s cherry tree, he didn´t say "I can neither confirm nor deny those reports," or "it depends on what the meaning of the word ´is´ is." George Washington told the truth even if it got him in trouble. The moral of the story -- Washington was a great leader because he would not lie, and all presidents should be as honest as our founding father. Well, guess what? That story about
The Elders, an organization of elder statesmen, peace activists and human rights advocates that includes former U.S. President Jimmy Carter, welcomed the interim agreement reached in Geneva between the P5+1 groups and Iran early Sunday. “We are all aware of the risks involved,” said Jimmy Carter. “But I am convinced that, after 35 years of animosity and distrust, there is an historic opportunity to rebuild relations with the government and people of Iran on solid foundations of mutual respect.” Kofi Annan, the chairman of the Elders and former secretary-general of the UN, said he hoped the deal would be "swiftly followed up
