Is American exceptionalism
still exceptional?

Investor´s Business Daily, by Andrew Malcolm

Original Article

Posted By:SurferLad, 9/17/2013 9:13:38 AM

One of the lessons little people teach their parents over time is they will often do what they think is expected of them. If parents are nervous, worried much of the time or indifferent, something bad will happen. If parents are, within reason, guiding and confident about their offspring, they tend to behave accordingly. And, of course, most every parent sees their child as special or even exceptional. Which brings us to American exceptionalism. It´s been in the news a lot. [Snip] But what is it?

FTA: Obama´s life story -- the sole son of a single mother who grew up to become the first black president -- would seem to be a compelling case of individual American exceptionalism. So, as the beneficiary of that, what´s his excuse for not defending the concept?

He was never a real part of it, and was put where he is in order to diminish it even further.

America was very exceptional until about 6 years ago. Then we elected Øvomit, and this country has quickly gone from exceptional super power to third-world-cesspoll-wanna-be in just a few short years.

In less than 6 years, Øvomit and the Demon-RATS have destroyed the best healthcare system in the world, the most diverse economy on earth, the best military in the world, destroyed the moral fiber of this nation, and made voting for a living to be much easier than working for a living.

I don´t know whether to cry or drink heavily some days...

Sorry for being contrarian, I´m about exceptional´d out.

Let´s see now.. where does it say, we hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal? And how many exceptional people that you know go around talking about how exceptional they are?

I understand & believe in it - I just think we should let the exceptionalism speak for itself in how we live up to the ideals day to day.

We inherited an exceptional Constitution from an exceptional group of Founders. We inherited an exceptional culture inspired by an exceptional faith. We inherited liberty and prosperity from those who sacrificed before us.

There is no "master race" , "superior", or "exceptional" group of people among us. Many have immigrated from other cultures and places and have shared in our exceptionalism and prosperity - once they embraced our culture and values. It´s cultural, not biological.

We´re at a low point right now. We can regain our "exceptional" status by returning to the faith, values, and principles that are our heritage. We can start by rejecting the siren calls from DC and Hollywood.

It´s always good for those who truly understand the concept, like Malcom, to explain it every now and then. American exceptionalism is not synonymous with American superiority. Rather, American exceptionalism is the foundation for American superiority.

Not a smidgeon of credibility

According to the president of the United States, the IRS scandal over agents targeting conservative groups is merely the result of "bone-headed decisions" by a few confused employees. And Barack Obama adds there’s not a "smidgeon" of corruption. Wait! Remember when this scandal broke last May, a president looking much like Barack Obama was so totally publicly outraged over this violation of government trust that he fired the IRS´ acting commissioner? Yet now, it´s all simply an unfortunate few instances of bone-headeded-ness that just happened to prevent dozens of groups opposed to Obama from participating in the 2012 election campaign.

Don´t be fooled into thinking that the 2016 presidential race and its main competitors will be determined in Washington. It can look that way with Washington media talking to Washington inmates about Washington issues on Washington shows. Rand Paul. Hillary Clinton. Marco Rubio. Ted Cruz. Paul Ryan. Peter King. (Just kidding.) Because these past 1,842 days with a rookie senator pretending to be the nation´s chief executive have shown how really well that works.

Did you ever find an old high school yearbook and shake your head at what´s changed since then? Not just the obvious clothing and hairstyles. But so many of the plans and promise of so many people. That´s what we did. We went back 1,818 days to one of the first speeches Barack Obama gave as the 44th president. Back to Feb. 12, 2009, less than a month from his first morning in office. There he was in East Peoria, Ill., at the massive Caterpillar factory, selling his then $879 billion stimulus spending plan wending its way through Congress.

You may not have been thinking about it at the time, but on Tuesday, when the president was delivering the State of the Union, we were observing a tradition prescribed by our Constitution. All branches of government and all walks of life gathering round in the people’s House. It is democracy at its finest. But these blessings do come with responsibilities. The Constitution also requires the president and Congress to heed the will of you, the people, and work together to carry out the business of the country. So in that spirit, Republicans identified 4 areas of bipartisanship.

Hi, everybody. This week, I delivered my State of the Union Address. Today, here’s the three-minute version. After four years of economic growth with eight million new private sector jobs, our unemployment rate is the lowest it’s been in more than five years. And with the economy speeding up, companies say they intend to hire more people this year. But while those at the top are doing better than ever, average wages have barely budged.

Barack Obama was in Wisconsin and Tennessee Thursday happy talking about "opportunity." He´s for it, by the way. "It´s good to be in Wisconsin," he told Wisconsin. Few hours later, "It´s good to be in Nashville." In both places he talked about the “opportunity” that comes with jobs and the “opportunity” that comes with education. As a word, "opportunity" polls well. Yet, these days whenever Obama has the opportunity to talk about his signature namesake "achievement," he rarely seizes the opportunity. The enterprising TV news video here shows why.

Barack Obama has never shown any great respect for ambassadors, a president´s hand-picked representative to another country. You´ll remember how shook up this president was over the 2012 murders of Amb. Chris Stevens and three other Americans in Benghazi; Obama flew off to Las Vegas fundraisers before the bodies were even cold. But two of Obama´s recent ambassadorial choices reveal the Democrat´s uber-political modus operandi—Max Baucus and George Tsunis.

President Obama gave another speech Tuesday night. It was the 93rd time a president has personally delivered a State of the Union address to a joint session of Congress. And it sounded like it. Obama has looked as if he´s mailing it in recently. Not Tuesday night. He seemed genuinely involved and invested in his 7,000 words. Unfortunately for him and anyone who chose to listen to the whole 65 minutes, there wasn´t anything new or even much to invest any thought in. Ear candy for Obama lovers.

It won´t surprise you after tonight that "income inequality" tested well. Our answer to what we most want to hear tonight is: “Thank you very much and may God bless America.” [Snip] This is all thanks to Woodrow Wilson.

The White House and congressional Democrats tried to limit the fallout Wednesday from the politically damaging conclusion in a Congressional Budget Office report that the Obamacare entitlement creates a major incentive for some people not to work. While some critics focused on a finding by the CBO that Obamacare will result in 2.5 million fewer workers over a decade, conservatives said the bigger fundamental issue highlighted in the report is one familiar to the welfare state — that taxpayer-funded government subsidies provide disincentives for full-time work. “People used to be stuck in jobs because they needed the health insurance,” said

But I guess I´m kind of curious: Is there much of a case to be made for anyone other than Paul Ryan? On the substantive side, Ryan sure seems like he´s setting himself up for a run. There´s his steady series of "unheralded" anti-poverty outreach trips that always manage to be just heralded enough to get sympathetic press coverage. This is either a glaring admission of defeat from the White House or… no, that’s really all it could be. After weeks of defending the cancellation of health plans insurers discontinued in 2013 in order to comply with the Affordable Care Act’s coverage mandates, the White House announced in November of last year that it was urging insurers to reinstate those plans. The catch was, of course, that most insurers would be unable to turn on a dime and reinstate those plans. Furthermore, the administration allowed individual states leeway to determine whether or not they would even allow insurers to reinstate
