Indispensable Nation To

In the wake of the Syria fiasco, in which we´re trusting Mafia godfather Vladimir Putin to disarm his most bloodthirsty capo, Bashar Assad, can the U.S. still deter the kind of aggression on a world-war scale that we´ve been saved from for nearly 70 years? What would President Obama do if, God forbid, nuclear North Korea invaded South Korea? Or if China invaded Taiwan or Japan´s Senkaku Islands, near which there may be sizable oil reserves? Or if the practically nuclear-armed Iran invaded Iraq? More to the point, what do these potential aggressors think Obama would do? Would this president, who was "elected

First, he would get on the brown pants so that everyone knows you can´t rattle him. Second, he would fill them. And then? Blame Bush.

I believe that Billy Jeff´s foolishness while in the WH sent a signal to the Jihadis that now was the time to catch us with our ´pants down´. This helped to provoke 911. Even though it happened very early on GWB´s watch, it was planned during the Clinton years.

In the same way, this Breezy Preezy is sending signals to our enemies that now is the time to strike.

This time there won´t be a Rumsfeld, a Schwarzkopf or any of the long list of true patriots to save us.

The best Generals have been fired.

The loonies are running the asylum.

Bias: How much abuse will the mainstream media take before they stand up for themselves? When the abuse comes from the Obama administration, their tolerance appears to be unlimited. This week, for example, two things happened that should have sent reporters into a frenzy of outrage. First, there were reports that the Obama administration has effectively crippled the Freedom of Information Act, despite Obama´s promise of unequaled transparency. Nearly half the federal agencies got an F grade for FOIA compliance, according to a Center for Effective Government report. And Cause of Action discovered that the administration had created a new FOIA exemption,

Why Is the ObamaCare Mandate So Toothless?

Health Care: Some think Democrats designed ObamaCare to fail so they could get to a single payer system. Seems a bit extreme. But it does help explain why they made the individual mandate so easy to avoid. According to ObamaCare´s architects, the individual mandate is key to making the law work. The mandate is supposed to force young and healthy people to enroll so they can subsidize premiums for the older and sicker. Otherwise, ObamaCare rates will spiral out of control. (Which already appears to be happening, according to TheHill.com.) The mandate is also supposed to prevent gaming the system — wherein people

President Obama gave a speech recently in which he, as he almost always does, patted himself on the back for what he described as a solid record on the economy. "We´ve now seen over four years of economic growth," he said. "We´ve seen 8.5 million new jobs created. We´ve seen the housing market bounce back. We´ve seen an auto industry that has come roaring back. We´ve seen manufacturing return for the first time since the 1990s." Obamaphiles in the press typically repeat these claims, arguing that, given the mess he inherited, no one could have done any better. But is that true? And

Another ObamaCare

Health Care: The administration issued new rules last week to spare President Obama more political damage from his phony "keep your doctor" promise. But in so doing, they´ve set in motion another ObamaCare rate shock. Soon after enrolling in ObamaCare, many people discovered the high cost of believing Obama´s promises. Not only were millions required to change plans, but many learned that their "new-and-improved" ObamaCare plans forced them to give up their doctors and hospitals, too. Turns out that insurers — desperate to keep premiums as low as they could in the face of ObamaCare´s costly benefit mandates, taxes and

Health Care: ObamaCare is turning out like the nine-headed Hydra monster of Greek mythology. Every time President Obama tries to lop off one of its failures, two more emerge. Recent news provides a good case in point. On Wednesday, Obama decreed that those who had plans they liked before ObamaCare could keep them for two more years. The move helped solve a huge political problem Obama himself created when he first made it possible for some people to keep plans they liked. Obama had allowed just a one-year extension — where he gets the authority to do any of this is beyond us

Economy: When not making excuses for President Obama´s dismal economic record, liberals try to explain away Texas´ stellar growth. But what choice do they have? The Lone Star State proves limited government works. After Gov. Rick Perry entered the presidential primaries in 2011, the left made a determined effort to dismiss the fact that his state had outperformed the rest of the country. Economist and New York Times columnist Paul Krugman called it the "Texas Unmiracle." Time magazine dismissed Texas´ burgeoning growth as mere luck. Others chimed in along the same lines, insisting that low taxes, limited government spending and a business-friendly

To say that President Obama is not an enthusiastic backer of the two Medicare programs that offer seniors private insurance options would be something of an understatement. Over the years, Obama has repeatedly derided Medicare Advantage — the program that lets seniors enroll in subsidized, private insurance. He once called it "wasteful," and said it amounted to "giveaways that boost insurance company profits but don´t make (seniors) any healthier." Obama has been equally harsh when it comes to Medicare Part D — the drug benefit President Bush signed into law that relies on privately run plans. In his 2006 book,

That comes amid reports that some Senate Democrats are backing away from President Obama´s push to boost the minimum wage by 39% over the next two years, to $10.10 an hour, after the Congressional Budget Office found that it would kill 500,000 jobs. Unlike other surveys, the IBD/TIPP Poll asked two questions about the minimum wage. The first simply asked, "Do you support or oppose raising the federal minimum

Cross off another ObamaCare promise. The report came from the actuary for the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services — which means it´s from the administration´s official ObamaCare number cruncher. What it found was that 65% of small businesses that offer insurance will likely see their premiums rise thanks to ObamaCare. That translates into higher insurance costs for 11 million workers. The reason? These companies generally employ younger, healthier workers and so had

Energy: What do you call an energy source that consumes vast tracks of open land and fries birds that cross its path? If you´re the president, you call it "safe," "reliable," "green" and worthy of massive taxpayer subsidies. That, at least, is the case with the Ivanpah Solar Electric Generating Station that covers a vast area of desert outside Las Vegas and, thanks to the generous support of the Obama administration, has officially opened. The plant points hundreds of thousands of mirrors at three towers to boil turbine-spinning water. But the heat rays aren´t very friendly to the area´s birds, including falcons,

Economy: Food and energy prices are rising, wages are flat and the top concern among Americans is unemployment. What was that word coined in the ´70s to describe a stagnant economy suffering inflationary pressures? Since the Obama "recovery" started 4-1/2 years ago, inflation appears to have been relatively tame, with core prices climbing just 7% from June 2009 to December 2013. But as CBS News discovered when it looked a little closer, the overall number is deceptive. In fact, it found food prices soaring. The official inflation data confirm this. Overall, food prices are up 9% since June 2009, according to the Bureau

Former Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld has said that ´a trained ape´ could do a better job managing American interests in Afghanistan than President Obama. The retired Republican made the insult while doing a phone-in interview for Greta Van Susteren´s Fox News show on Tuesday. He argued that the President made a serious error by failing to negotiate a status forces agreement with Afghan President Hamid Karzai. Gawker points out that such an agreement would effectively commit the United States to having a certain number of troops in the country for a number of years beyond the already-agreed-upon plan which

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D., Nev.) said the fault of struggling to sign up on the Obamacare exchanges didn’t lie with the faulty website, but with the people who weren’t “educated on how to use the Internet.” Explaining the reasoning behind the latest Obamacare delay, Reid said too many people just didn’t know to use their computer properly and needed more time. Apparently, it had nothing to do with the well-documented failings of the website that have embarrassed the White House for months. “We have hundreds of thousands of people who tried to sign up who didn’t get through,” he said.

Okay, THAT was certainly embarrassing. At the end of a joint news conference with Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte in the Netherlands on Tuesday, the applause for Barack Obama came from a grand total of one guy. One. After thanking the crowd twice for suffering through his boring, standard worn-out spiel, Obama looked around the room, expecting the usual fanfare and applause he receives from his loyal followers back home. It never came. Instead, the Leader of the Free World was met with one slow, awkward clap. Question: was MSNBC’s Chris Matthews in the house?

U.S. President Barack Obama and Pope Francis met Thursday for the first time at Vatican City, offering a chance for a reset of sorts between the administration and Catholic leadership following years of strained relations. The two world leaders greeted each other with a smile and a handshake, and posed for pictures before sitting down across a table from each other. The goal of the meeting: Focus on areas where two of the world´s most influential men agree and gently tread ground where they differ. The President and the Pontiff will, as the White House said in a statement, focus on "shared commitment

Nearly six in 10 people disapprove of President Obama´s job performance in a new poll by the Associated Press, the highest rating recorded by the newswire. According to the AP-GFK survey released Wednesday, 59 percent disapprove of Obama´s job performance while 41 percent approve. A similar poll released by the news outlet in January found 45 percent approved of him while 53 percent disapproved. Other recent polling has found Obama´s disapproval rating slightly lower, remaining in the low 50s. A CBS News poll Tuesday showed 50 percent disapproval, while Gallup has his disapproval at 52 percent. In the AP poll,

As the U.S. Supreme Court weighed the constitutionality of a contraception coverage mandate Tuesday morning, a federal appeals court heard a separate legal challenge that could have much more sweeping implications for the future of President Obama´s health care law. And if the oral arguments before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit are any indication, it’s time for the White House to start sweating over a lawsuit that up until now has flown relatively below the radar. At issue in the case are the subsidies that the federal government provides for individuals purchasing insurance through Obamacare. Though the text

On Wednesday, Obama administration officials announced a two week extension in the deadline to enroll in the Affordable Care Act or face a penalty defined as a tax. Asked about this “delay” in the implementation of the ACA on Wednesday, Sen. Harry Reid (D-NV) said that there has been no delay. On Tuesday night two things happened. 1. A trio of Secret Service agents were sent home from Amsterdam after one was found passed out drunk in a hotel hallway. 2. The Obama Administration announced (another) extension of the enrollment deadline for Obamacare signups. At first glance, these two events have little in common with one another. But, modern politics is all about narratives and storylines. And, both of these events confirm a growing concern from the public about President Obama: That he´s just not up to governing his administration and, by extension, the country, effectively.

One by one, the myths of the Affordable Care Act have been revealed. When the curtain on open enrollment falls on March 31, the last remaining big myth of ObamaCare will be fully exposed: The individual mandate has failed. After a last-ditch effort with President Obama himself encouraging "young invincibles" to sign up before the deadline, the administration is scrambling to boost enrollment. On Tuesday, the White House announced that people who applied for coverage on the federal health-insurance exchange will have until mid-April to finish the paperwork. The mandate was supposed to be the administration´s magical elixir for the assorted shortcomings

More than six million Americans have now signed up for private insurance under the Affordable Care Act, according to the White House, with just four days to go until the end of its first open enrollment period. While traveling in Italy on Thursday, President Obama shared the news in a conference call with thousands of health-care navigators and volunteers helping enroll people on state and federal marketplaces. As the volume of consumers seeking health plans has surged -- there were over 1.5 million visits to HealthCare.gov Wednesday and more than 430,000 calls to the marketplaces´ call centers -- Obama urged those on
