A gunman suspected Monday in one of the nation´s worst mass shootings, a massacre at a Washington, D.C., Navy installation, was previously arrested in Seattle for opening fire during a parking dispute. Aaron Alexis, 34, who lived earlier this year in Fort Worth, was shot and killed inside the Washington Navy Yard on Monday following a shooting rampage where 13 were killed and at least four wounded inside an office facility. Alexis was living in Seattle in 2004 when he was suspected of shooting out another man’s tires in what police described as an anger-fueled “blackout.” According to police, Alexis´

On Tuesday, hours after he was reportedly fired from MSNBC for an off-set anti-gay rant, Alec Baldwin lashed out at the network for terminating him while not disciplining Martin Bashir, who suggested on air that someone should defecate and urinate in former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin´s mouth. Baldwin´s remarks were made off-the-cuff, while Bashir´s were scripted and produced. In an interview with Gothamist, Baldwin exclaimed, "Martin Bashir´s on the air, and he made his comment on the air!" (Snip) On the other hand, Bashir has not even attempted to rationalize or justify his vile remarks from two weeks ago and
Speaking before an audience of supporters on Tuesday in California, President Barack Obama said that he hopes immigration reform remains a priority for Congress. He added that he was given a tour of DreamWorks Studios and noted that he could tell, “just by looking at their faces,” that there were immigrants working there seeking to achieve the American dream. “As I was getting a tour of DreamWorks, I didn’t ask, but just looking at faces I could tell there were some folks who are here not because they are born here, but because they want to be here,” Obama told a
A group of 100 Mexican nationals illegally crossed into the United States and attacked U.S. Border Patrol Agents with rocks and bottles, according to the U.S. Customs and Border Protection Agency (CBP). The violent group was allowed to run back into Mexico and were permitted to disperse by Mexican authorities without being arrested or otherwise suffering any consequences for their brutal attacks on U.S. law enforcement. The attack occurred in southern California on November 24, 2013. According to the official CBP press release: … more than 100 people illegally crossed the International Border from Mexico one-quarter-mile west of the San
Remember when James O’Keefe and his Project Veritas exposed those supposedly nonpartisan Obamacare navigators being unmistakeably partisan? Well, the watchdog group’s investigation has already had some dire consequences for those caught on camera. Chris Tarango, Texas Communications Director for Enroll America, a Sebelius-linked group dedicated to signing people up for Obamacare, resigned following a Project Veritas investigation. The video exposé showed Tarango conspiring to release private data to help a political action committee. Tarango’s resignation came Friday night after Project Veritas released its undercover investigation capturing the communications head stating he would help “do whatever it takes” to get out
They’d be a reality TV dream family! O. J. Simpson could be the father of reality TV star Khloe Kardashian, Simpson’s manager claims. The disgraced former football star may have hooked-up with Kardashian’s mom, Kris Jenner, in the 1980s — back when she and late ex-hubby Robert Kardashian used to vacation with Simpson, manager Norman Pardo told In Touch magazine. “It’s all going to come out sooner or later,” Pardo said. “Khloe could be O.J.’s kid.” Simpson and then-wife Nicole Brown Simpson also partied with the couple and Kris was not always faithful, Pardo claimed. “They all took their vacations
CBS News journalist Sharyl Attkisson reported on Tuesday that not only will millions of Americans who receive their health coverage through their employer be losing their current coverage as a result of the Affordable Care Act, the federal government always knew this would be the case. “We’ve learned that the government estimated all along that millions of workers will be dropped from their employee insurance under the Affordable Care Act and, for some, it’s already happening,” Attkisson revealed. Attkisson highlighted the story of one woman who was featured in a White House video blog in 2012 as a likely ACA
The political battles over the future of the new national health insurance law is about to become a media faceoff between Republican accounts of mishap and failure vs. Democratic stories that hint at eventual success. It’s the tale of two Obamacares. In a pre-Thanksgiving messaging memo, Democratic senators are being urged to use the holiday break to find success stories and “aggressively publicize them so that people can see the law is delivering on its promise.” The memo was prepared and distributed by the Senate Democratic Policy and Communications Committee, the Senate Democrats’ political messaging operation. Also in recent days, Senate
The U.S. military has flown two warplanes over the East China Sea on a training exercise, the Pentagon announced Tuesday, blatantly ignoring a recent edict from China that it must be informed in advance of any such flights over the region. The two unarmed aircraft flew Monday evening, Eastern time, over a small island chain that China and Japan both claim as their territory, said Lt. Col. Tom Crosson, a Pentagon spokesman. He said the U.S. military did not provide any notice to Beijing and described the mission as “uneventful,” saying that there was “no contact, no reaction from China.”
McLEAN, Va.- To some of the Americans subjected to mock executions and other torment during more than a year as hostages in Iran more than 30 years ago, it seems like a mistake to trust the regime in Tehran to keep its promises in a nuclear deal brokered by the U.S. and other world powers. The prolonged hostage crisis that began in 1979 gnawed at American emotions and touched off decades of animosity between the U.S. and a nation that had once been an ally. The latest deal has been touted as a trust-building endeavor, though some who endured captivity
Growing up, there were lots of political arguments at Thanksgiving dinners – that was part of the fun - but it rarely got personal. We found something else to bond over, if only through a shared little nod and side whisper; yes, the turkey’s dry again. In Washington these days, though, the political often looks personal. The knock on Democrats and Republicans is that they don’t just disagree, they act like they’re from different planets, or at least conceptually different countries. You know the tropes: red-staters versus blue, urbanites versus rural, and so forth. So in the spirit of Thanksgiving,
Santa Claus ISN´T coming to town. The group that puts on the city´s annual Sidewalk Santa Parade said its last bell has been jingled. Volunteers of America-Greater New York said the parade and its Sidewalk Santa fundraising efforts have been retired and it´s using other ways, such as online giving and money from private donors, to raise funds for its Hope and Hearth food voucher program. "It was just not the most effective way to raise money," vice president Rachel Weinstein said Monday. The parade traditionally took place the Friday after Thanksgiving, with the Santa-costumed participants marching up Manhattan´s Fifth
A video has surfaced from the presidential campaign trail in May 2008 that shows Michelle Obama talking about the sacrifices that Americans would have to make in order to achieve her husband´s health care goals. The future First Lady was speaking at a meeting of military families to highlight the cost of war for those back at home. Her remarks have been referred to in several Internet postings but no video has surfaced until now. Mrs. Obama says: It´s going to cost us something as a society to say, ´We can´t tolerate millions of people uninsured. We can´t tolerate it.´
Everyone has a favorite recipe, find it in the back of a kitchen drawer, call your mom, see if you still have that dog-eared copy of the Joy of Cooking. It´s on the back of an old electric bill stuck inside the back cover. Find it and post it for all your LCom friends. If you have a special request let us know, someone can find it somewhere.
Conservatives have for years attempted to put our finger upon precisely why Barack Obama strikes us as queer in precisely the way he does. There is an alienness about him, which in the fever swamps is expressed in all that ridiculous Kenyan-Muslim hokum, but his citizen-of-the-world shtick is strictly sophomore year — the great globalist does not even speak a foreign language. Obama has been called many things — radical, socialist — labels that may have him dead to rights at the phylum level but not down at his genus or species. His social circle includes an alarming number of
Noel Ignatiev, a professor at Massachusetts College of Art, has for years advocated the total elimination of Caucasians. During his final lecture before retirement last Monday, he told his white male students "you don’t deserve to live. You are a cancer, you’re a disease." NOEL IGNATIEV: If you are a white male, you don’t deserve to live. You are a cancer, you’re a disease, white males have never contributed anything positive to the world! They only murder, exploit and oppress non-whites! At least a white woman can have sex with a black man and make a brown baby but what can a
Appearing on Arsenio Hall’s talk show over the weekend, ?Jesse Jackson defended both President Obama, who he said has faced heretofore unseen advsersity as president, as well as Jackson’s embattled son, who he said “had the best voting record in the Congress” before he was sentenced by unfair laws. On the president, Jackson praised him for “serving us well against the most hostility an American president has ever had” and “more attempts to derail his legislation then in the history of the country.” Between job creation and his efforts in Iraq, President Obama has “maintained a kind of dignity” without stooping
Pure, sweet, schadenfreudean goodness from Politico. See now why I think there’s a chance that those new Iran sanctions pass with veto-proof majorities? Turns out, after three years and a half years of development plus two months of frantic triage to Healthcare.gov, Democrats are finally ready to hold the White House accountable for its giant O-Care fark-up. A little. “The president and his team have repeatedly assured us that the system will be working by Dec. 1. That’s when I start looking at what we have to do in our oversight function to hold the administration accountable for making it work.” Rep.
Normally, I don´t traffic much in gossip, but the case of Valerie Jarrett is different. She may well be the most powerful woman in America, and almost certainly is the most powerful member of the Obama administration. The adjective "shadowy" definitely applies to this woman who enjoys her power through her relationship to the President, having never been confirmed by Senate hearings. Her title as "Senior Adviser" to the President barely scratches the surface of her real power. President Obama has time for his 150+ rounds of golf, his extensive television watching, and his expertise on March Madness bracketology because ValJar,
Located just 50 miles off the U.S. coast, north of New York City, sits Petra, a heart-shaped island that now belongs to Brad Pitt, after Angelina reportedly shelled out £12.2million to buy it for his 50th birthday. Pitt is apparently an architect fanatic, so when Jolie discovered that the island´s only two homes were designed by Frank Lloyd Wright, she was sold. Pitt once said,“When I discovered Charles Rennie Mackintosh and Frank Lloyd Wright, it changed my life.” A source revealed that “as soon as Angelina heard the island was on the market she arranged a viewing. She was really impressed.
Former Utah Gov. Jon Huntsman (R) left the door open to another presidential run during a Monday panel in New Hampshire. Asked whether he ever thinks about running again — Huntsman dropped out of the 2012 Republican primary after finishing third in New Hampshire — he suggested he hadn´t ruled out the option. He closed a long response to the question, posed at Saint Anselm College, by saying: "Which is a long way of saying that I love public service. I´ll always be committed to public service. And as an itinerant public servant, from time to time, it´s hard to know where
SANFORD, Fla. — George Zimmerman had five guns and more than 100 rounds of ammunition with him when deputies arrested him earlier this month on domestic violence charges, according to court documents released Tuesday. A search warrant made public by the Seminole County court clerk shows that Zimmerman had a 12-gauge shotgun, an AR-15 assault rifle and three handguns when he was arrested Nov. 18 at his girlfriend´s house. The girlfriend, Samantha Scheibe, told deputies that Zimmerman pointed a shotgun at her during an argument and also used it to smash her coffee table. Zimmerman is free on $9,000 bail on charges
"Trust is like virginity: once you lose it it´s hard to get it back." So spoke pollster John Zogby, commenting on his latest poll on President Obama´s handling of his office. Quoted by Paul Bedard in the Washington Examiner: "Most ominous for Mr. Obama is that 57 percent now disapprove of his job. That is his worst number yet. This includes 57 percent of men and 55 percent of women; 51 percent of moderates, 24 percent of liberals and 24 percent of Democrats; 66 percent of independents and 40 percent of Hispanics. Meanwhile, a separate poll by CNN/ORC International found: 53%
Maybe it was something about what they served in the White House mess in the 1990s. Or perhaps it´s what happens to baby boomer Democrats more than a decade after leaving office. For whatever the reason former vice president Al Gore has gone vegan, just like the president with whom he once served. Gore´s recent decision to forgo animal products surfaced as an offhand reference in a Forbes magazine piece about Hampton Creek Foods, an upscale vegan product line carried in Whole Foods. Ryan Mac´s article, which posted Saturday, chronicled how wealthy investors including Bill Gates, Tom Steyer and Vinod Khosla
Alec Baldwin has been fired by MSNBC, sources say. The rage-aholic’s weekly show, “Up Late With Alec Baldwin,” has been canceled because of the actor’s foul-mouthed rant at a photographer he called a nasty name. “The decision has been made. He’s gone,” an insider at the cable channel told me. “The [parent company] Comcast guys have decided. Word is spreading through the building.” Baldwin’s dismissal was decided on partly because of his diva-like behavior toward co-workers, a source said.
