One of the biggest blowouts in Super Bowl history was capped by one of the biggest blunders in regional transit history.Overwhelmed by a record number of riders, NJ Transit kept fans waiting after the game for hours for shuttle trains from MetLife Stadium. Jubilation over the Seattle Seahawks’ 43-8 stomping of the Denver Broncos quickly deteriorated into transportation chaos.“Worst train system ever,” fumed Steve Snorsky, 45, of Seattle, whose joy was drained by enormous lines of people waiting for shuttle trains to Secaucus Junction.“I’ve been to every home Seahawks game and I never waited in such a s--t show,” Snorsky

Labor union officials say Obama

Labor leaders who have spent months lobbying unsuccessfully for special protections under the Affordable Care Act warned this week that the White House’s continued refusal to help is dampening union support for Democratic candidates in this year’s midterm elections. Leaders of two major unions, including the first to endorse Obama in 2008, said they have been betrayed by an administration that wooed their support for the 2009 legislation with promises to later address the peculiar needs of union-negotiated insurance plans that cover millions of workers.

WHEN Woody Allen received a Golden Globe award for lifetime achievement a few weeks ago, there was a lively debate about whether it was appropriate to honor a man who is an artistic giant but also was accused years ago of child molestation. Allen’s defenders correctly note that he denies the allegations, has never been convicted and should be presumed innocent. People weighed in on all sides, but one person who hasn’t been heard out is Dylan Farrow, 28, the writer and artist whom Allen was accused of molesting. Dylan, Allen’s adopted daughter who is now married and living in Florida under

President Obama may accept deal offering

WASHINGTON — In a major shift, President Obama on Friday opened the door to a potential election-year compromise on the contentious issue of immigration reform. Obama said for the first time that he might accept a deal that would offer the 11 million undocumented immigrants in the U.S. legal status instead of full citizenship. House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) and other Republican leaders had floated just such a proposal on Thursday.Until now, Obama and other Democrats insisted that any compromise on immigration reform contain a path to full citizenship.Anything short of that, they said, would create a two-tiered class system. The Truth About Valerie Jarrett,

What exactly does Valerie Jarrett—the Chicagoan often described as a big sister or mother figure to the Obamas—do in the White House? The instant histories of the Obama White House tend to portray her as the Obamas’ pit bull, a woman loyal only to the president, first lady and her own image. In a recent book on the 2012 campaign, Jonathan Alter writes that Rahm Emanuel, on agreeing to become Obama’s chief of staff, recognized that Jarrett would wield such outsized power that he tried unsuccessfully to finesse her into Obama’s senate seat. (Alter also speculates that Valerie Jarrett was

It is very hard to take President Obama seriously. At Friday’s big surveillance speech, after five years of Big Government–orchestrated Constitution shredding, he looked the American people in the eye and explained that, as monitoring technology has evolved over the centuries, our nation has always “benefitted from both our Constitution and traditions of limited government.” While your head was still spinning, another whopper: After five years of whimsically “waiving,” ignoring, and unilaterally rewriting congressional statutes, he bleated that “our system of government is built on the premise that our liberty cannot depend on the good intentions of those in power;

I found the machinations in the Netflix political series “House of Cards” to be immensely entertaining but a little over the top — until, that is, the traffic jam scandal in New Jersey.I was initially perplexed by what appears to have been a ham-handed effort by Gov. Chris Christie’s aides and his appointees at the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey to retaliate against Fort Lee’s mayor, Mark Sokolich, by tying up traffic at the George Washington Bridge, which connects Fort Lee to Manhattan. If retaliation is what it was, it would have worked only if the supposed offender knew he was being punished and why.

The Congressional Budget Office estimated on Tuesday that the Affordable Care Act will reduce the number of full-time workers by 2.5 million over the next decade. That is mostly a good thing, a liberating result of the law. Of course, Republicans immediately tried to brand the findings as “devastating” and stark evidence of President Obama’s health care reform as a failure and a job killer. It is no such thing. The Affordable Care Act, aka ObamaCare, became law almost four years ago. It became operational last Oct. 1. Yesterday, Feb. 4, 2014, the ACA may well have been dealt its death blow. The Congressional Budget Office released a major study of the government’s budget and its effect on the overall economy over the next 10 years. In dull bureaucratic language, it delivers a devastating analysis of the inefficiencies, ineffectualities and problematic social costs of ObamaCare. The one-two punch: Virtually as many Americans will lack health coverage in 10 years as before the law was passed — but 2 million fewer

President Obama, outlining his push Tuesday to bring high-speed Internet access to more U.S. schools, said Americans should demand the same level of technology in learning facilities as they do in coffee shops. “In a country where we expect free Wi-Fi with our coffee, we should definitely demand it in our schools,” Obama said in Adelphi, Md., highlighting $750 million in new commitments from private companies to put digital learning labs in schools. Under his plan, the Federal Communications Commission will also spend $2 billion to connect 20 million students to wireless technologies.

House committees are still digging into the IRS political targeting scandal, and based on a hearing Wednesday there´s more to learn. The day produced more evidence blowing apart President Obama´s claims that there was "not even a smidgen of corruption" or political motivation in the IRS handling of groups applying for tax-exempt status. Mr. Obama wants Americans to believe that the targeting resulted from the confusing tax law governing nonprofits, which he says was "difficult" to interpret and resulted in mere "bureaucratic" mistakes. This is also the Administration´s justification for issuing new regulations governing
