Michelle Obama turns her ´Let´s Move!´
health drive to ´Let´s Drink!´ (water)

Investor´s Business Daily, by Andrew Malcolm

Original Article

Posted By:SurferLad, 9/13/2013 9:13:31 AM

As her husband argues for and against war in the same speech on Syria, First Lady Michelle Obama has turned her healthy living initiative in a new direction -- toward drinking water. Not very sexy but it is very simple. She believes that if all Americans, especially children, drank a little more water every day, they would become healthier citizens, now and even at her advanced age of 49. Numerous companies like Brita, Dasani, Arrowhead, Deer Park, Ice Mountain, Zephyrhills, Ozarka and Poland Spring are joining in with logos and promotions to help out the water-drinking campaign for some reason.

So it´s not enough that her husband drives us to drink? Now she has to get into the act, too?

I see she´s brought in a Chicago cook to be her medical adviser on this campaign. Water is important but it´s only a part of proper hydration. This looks more like a campaign to push corporate water with some of the new profits finding their way into Mooch´s pockets.

Please, go easy on her. Mooch is simply giving us a heads up on the advice physicians will be required to give us under ObamaCare, "Drink 8 glasses of water and then call me in the morning".

One can be assured that only the most expensive sparkling water accompanies the Kobe beef and lobsters the Mooch enjoys at lunch. "Ma! If ya don´t come in here I´m gonna give your steak to Bo."

From the Mayo Clinic:

Everyone has heard the advice, "Drink eight 8-ounce glasses of water a day." That´s about 1.9 liters, which isn´t that different from the Institute of Medicine recommendations. Although the "8 by 8" rule isn´t supported by hard evidence, it remains popular because it´s easy to remember. Just keep in mind that the rule should be reframed as: "Drink at least eight 8-ounce glasses of fluid a day," because all fluids count toward the daily total. You may need to modify your total fluid intake depending on how active you are, the climate you live in, your health status, and if you´re pregnant or breast-feeding.

The Mississippi River provides New Orleanians with their drinking water. Leaving aside the chemical plants on the river above New Orleans (I think it´s around 90), that water has been through eight people before it reaches New Orleans. There are so many carcinogens going into the water that nobody really knows the total.

This probably explains why New Orleanians drink a good bit of alcohol and like to cook with wine.

Inside the Bundy Ranch standoff:

It was a tense standoff in rural Nevada with armed protesters closing I-15 for a while and facing off against even more heavily-armed federal agents. For now, that volatile Bundy Ranch confrontation has been defused. But it´s not over by any means. And we may well experience others that do not pause in non-violence. These are profound disputes illustrative of abiding suspicions among average Americans and their government headed by a man who promised to bring people together but didn´t. Hate to break the news to you, but our old pal Archie Andrews is doomed. After 73 years of not looking a day over 17, the long-running all-American symbol of wholesomeness and teen goodness is set to die in July, according to Archie Comics. He´ll go out good, saving someone. Which is swell. But is this really necessary in a soiled age of cynicism, non-heroes and non-role models, lying leaders and downright criminals? It's already hard enough being a parent with all the unwholesome temptations at hand. Must we inevitably give up every enduring symbol of hope and good and fun for a one-month publicity splash?

GOP: Not just equal pay,

There was plenty of talk in Washington this week about equal pay. The thing is — it was just that: more talk. As a woman who worked at McDonald’s to get through college…. as the mom of two young daughters … and as the elected representative of thousands of hardworking women, I have always supported equal pay for equal work. And if a woman is being paid less than a man because of gender discrimination, that is both wrong and against the law. The protections provided to women and others in the Equal Pay Act must be enforced to make certain there is no pay disparity because of discrimination.

Hi, everybody. Earlier this week was Equal Pay Day. It marks the extra time the average woman has to work into a new year to earn what a man earned the year before. You see, the average woman who works full-time in America earns less than a man — even when she’s in the same profession and has the same education. That´s wrong. In 2014, it’s an embarrassment. Women deserve equal pay for equal work. This is an economic issue that affects all of us. Women make up about half our workforce. And more and more, they’re our families’ main breadwinners. So it’s good for everyone when women are paid fairly.

Although the Civil Rights Act, the landmark legislation which just reached its 50th anniversary, made great strides in desegregating the economy, economic discrimination is still widespread, and anti-discrimination legislation alone can never rectify the economic damage inflicted upon blacks by slavery and our Jim Crow apartheid regime. The Civil Rights Act was a mild reform, all things considered, but one conservatives fought with vigor and one many conservatives are still bitter about to this day. When the Civil Rights Act passed in 1964, the primary purpose was to root out discrimination in public accommodations (like hotels and movie theaters)
