BOULDER, Colo. - Flash flooding unleashed by torrential downpours in Colorado has killed at least three people and forced hundreds to flee to higher ground as rising water toppled buildings and stranded motorists in their cars, officials said on Thursday. (Snip) At least 6 inches of rain has fallen on the city of Boulder and up to 8 inches were measured in the foothills west of town, said Kari Bowen, a Weather Service meteorologist in Boulder, northwest of Denver. The rains transformed Boulder Creek, which runs through the heart of the city and the University of Colorado´s Boulder campus, into a

Not that unusual. Scrub country. And yet people flock to build and live there. Sorta like living on the beach.

#2 - VERY unusual. Flow in Boulder Creek is two times higher than ever recorded. We´ve gone past the 24-hour rainfall record.

We´re fine as we´re out of the flood plain and the basement is still dry. Neighbors are not so lucky.

Thanks for the kind words #1.

These rainstorms and floods are most unusual.

Most of the flooding is in the Boulder area. The university has been flooded and evacuated.

Scrub country???

Echoing #3... early this AM (0600) I was listening to the radio and they were discussing rainfall amounts of 3" here.. 4" there... and I thought, "That´s a lot of rain in one hour." Only moments later did I realize they were discussing those amounts in FIFTEEN MINUTE increments.
This is rain of Biblical proportions. Think Noah and the Ark.

I was watching a demo on The Weather Channel about flash flooding. It is amazing that a flash flood of only six inches of water can knock adults off their feet, and that twelve inches can sweep away vehicles.

The Brooklyn raised director made his feelings on gentrification clear in his 1988 movie “Do The Right Thing.” So, following a lecture in honor of African American history month at Pratt Institute Tuesday night, Lee went off on an audience member when asked about the positive side of gentrification. “You just can’t come in the neighborhood,” said Lee. “I’m for democracy and letting everybody live but you gotta have some respect. Missouri executed its fourth inmate in as many months early Wednesday, even as the issue of capital punishment has sparked a new and reshaped political debate in the state and across the country. A new report shows that as many as 125,000 young California immigrants may qualify for an expansion of Medi-Cal, the state´s Medicaid program. The Affordable Care Act bars insurance subsidies and enrollment in the Medicaid expansion for undocumented immigrants, but a wrinkle in California rules does offer coverage for those with "deferred action status." The Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program was created by President Obama in 2012 to grant immigrants who came to the country illegally as children -- sometimes called Dreamers -- legal status and work authorization for two-year periods. He waited on the porch, standing beside the American flag that hangs outside the house, and when the 59-year-old music teacher answered he shot her to death in her own hallway. The man then turned the gun on her elderly mother´s caretaker, wounding her before walking down the garden path and back onto the street. Mrs Lodato´s murder, committed seemingly at random and in broad daylight at 11.30am, would on its own be enough to unsettle the city of Alexandria, a wealthy suburb of Washington DC.
