Pledge of Allegiance skipped,
Muslim poem read at Boston school
on 9/11

The principal of Concord Carlisle High School in Boston issued an apology Wednesday after a Muslim poem was recited over the intercom on the 12th anniversary of 9/11, and the Pledge of Allegiance was not. According to principal Peter Badalament, a “small number” of people were outraged at the poem, which was meant to promote “cross-cultural understanding,” (Skip) Mohja Kahf’s “My Grandmother Washes Her Feet in the Sink of the Bathroom at Sears,” tells a granddaughter’s account of watching her grandmother adhere to the religious Muslim custom of washing her feet five times a day

Comments:
Count me in to the outraged Peter. Let him know you are outraged also. pbadalament at colonial dot net, dismissal for negligence and sedition would be more appropriate.

We have to take control of the school systems around the entire USA. This liberal B.S. has got to stop.

They are indoctrinating our youth, and that is worth fighting for.

It´s has to stop.

Uh... how did that "cross cultural understanding" work out back on 9-11-01?

And why do the rest of us have to see someone wash their feet in the public sink?

Her Grandmother could have simply washed her feet fifty times a day...in her own home..if it was so darned important.

I mean... her Grandmother was at Sears...she was not in some stinking desert.

Really? How come it´s only cross cultural one way? I´m sure a Christian religious act poem wouldn´t be acceptable. And this poem HAD to be read on 9/11. And we´re supposed to believe it´s a coincidence? oversight? Sure.

And I´m sure we´ll receive an equally facile explanation from the principal

It´s all for multicultural understanding and diversity, doncha know?
And a part of history.

FTA: “Respectable Sears matrons shake their heads and frown,” Miss Kahf writes, “as they notice what my grandmother is doing … an affront to American porcelain … a contamination of American Standards by something foreign and unhygienic requiring civic action and possible use of disinfectant spray.”

The "poem" itself is a perfect example of cross-cultural misunderstanding by this child, no doubt informed by her family´s own biases. Her snarky double entendre about American Standards is an unambiguous slap.

How come "cross-cultural understanding" always excludes the United States? Isn´t it an immigrant´s responsibility to understand American culture? Maybe Grandma should carry a vessel with her for foot washing, showing a little sensitivity of her own about the cleanliness standards of other cultures.

There is NO excuse. A number of the victims of 9/11 were from the Boston area, trapped in planes where stewardesses and pilots were being massacred.

He MUST be fired for this idiocy. Count me among the "small" number of people who were and are highly offended. Every school should begin their day with the Pledge of Allegiance, regardless of whether the designated "reader" shows up.

And we wonder why this country is going to he** in a hand basket.

This makes me so angry! These people come here to raise their families and take advantage of the freedom this nation has to offer and then turn around and push their customs, rituals, habits on their host and have no respect for the traditions of this nation. Many American gave their life for this nation so don´t snub our traditions and attempt to replace them with their own.

This attempt is not received well.

Let me translate that principle´s comment that only "a ´small number´ of people were outraged at the poem," . . . In others words, only a few people were able to get through to the school´s principle. What a disgrace.

On the large scale, it exposes the huge gulf between the Muslim world and free Western nations in culture, economics, social development, sanitary practices [and comprehension], societal psychologies [self-centeredness and arrogance], and more.

Well then the person in charge should be told to clean out their desk and that person should be walked out the door. The person who read the poem should be walked out right behind the enabler..this NEVER should have happened and the people responsible should not be allowed to get away with this. Reading this poem was done on purpose..oh and what happened to separation of church and state that these libs are so worked up about..if muslim is a religion then it has no business being pushed onto students in a public school.

I wonder if I could make millions if I invented a small, foldable footbath made out of slightly-sturdier Ziploc bag material? Put water in it and take it to your stall, and then dump the water and throw the footbath into the trashcan?

I´d sell three or four, actually, since this is all about how America needs to accomodate the ways of nutty, in-your-face Muslims who expect us to bend (over) and embrace their (filthy) customs. Taking care of their own needs is not what they want. They expect us to violate our own Constitution and elevate their religion by making provisions for it in public places.

I´m trying to think rationally about this. Aside from the obvious affront of not reciting the Pledge of Allegiance & reading the Muslim "poem," the blatant disregard for American,i.e. Western norms is profoundly disturbing.
If I were living in some godforsaken desert,
herding goats and camels, forced to wear burkahs and flip-flops, I would be washing not only my feet at every available opportunity, but pouring water over my entire shrouded self.
These in-your-face Muslims should be shunned. They don´t belong here. Multiculturism kills in benign ways. It kills the will to fight!

FYI: I found the poem and think this excerpt may steam up some glasses.
"My grandmother knows one culture — the right one, as do these matrons of the Middle West. For them, my grandmother might as well have been squatting in the mud over a rusty tin in vaguely tropical squalor, Mexican or Middle Eastern, it doesn´t matter which,
when she lifts her well - groomed foot and puts it over the edge. "You can´t do that," one of the women protests, turning to me, "Tell her she can´t do that."
"We wash our feet five times a day,"
my grandmother declares hotly in Arabic.
"My feet are cleaner than their sink.
Worried about their sink, are they? I
should worry about my feet!"
My grandmother nudges me, "Go on, tell them."

The Obama administration is moving toward finalizing a rule that would give alternative energy farms a pass for killing bald and golden eagles for decades, just weeks after it took legal action for the first time against a company for doing so. The rule by the Interior Department extends the length of the permits that allow farms to unintentionally kill the eagles without penalty from five to 30 years, according to department records. The rule authorizes the “non-purposeful” killing of eagles, but also will require farms to implement certain guidelines to help with eagle conservation.

With Easter soon approaching, the Rev. Al Sharpton on Wednesday drew parallels between the resurrection of Jesus Christ and the resurrection of President Obama’s political career. Joining the “Tom Joyner Morning Show,” Mr. Sharpton said that his message for this Easter is that “no matter what the world may do to you unfairly, no matter how you’re crucified — nailed to the cross at home, or in your personal relationships, or on the job — that you can rise if you don’t lose yourself during the hard times and the challenges.” The reverend went on to say that Christ endured so much humiliation and unearned suffering leading up to his death,

Climate change’s latest casualty appears to be fish — or more specifically, fish brains — as researchers say the carbon dioxide that’s being absorbed into the ocean is causing the scaly creatures to lose their survival instincts. In other words, the fish are losing their minds, The Daily Mail reported. The acid from atmospheric carbon dioxide seeps into sea waters, dissolves and ultimately lowers the pH balance, researchers said. The acidic waters then hamper the fishes’ sensory systems, so they’re not able to distinguish between smells any longer, the scientists went on. When the acid levels get really high, the fish lose their
