Syria´s chemical weapons stockpile
BBC News [UK], by Staff

The size and location of Syria´s chemical weapons stockpile have been the subject of speculation for many years, but some believe it is the world´s largest. While Syria´s possession of chemical weapons has never been in any doubt, there is no reliable information on how it obtained and developed its arsenal. The country has not signed the Chemical Weapons Convention (CWC) nor ratified the Biological Weapons Convention (BWC), so it has never made a formal declaration of its stock. Most experts believe it has the blister agent sulphur mustard, the nerve agent sarin, and the more potent and persistent nerve

Simply breathtaking. Arab dictators, under Republican presidents, can in no way whatsoever acquire, construct, use, nor supply to terrorists WMDs. However, under Democrat presidents (at least of the black socialist ilk) Arab dictators can magically own WMDs, the origin and acquisition of which elicits only quaintly unserious curiosity among the Court Eunuch media, not a 5-year long ultra-scream of "Bush lied!!!". Breathtaking.

Somewhere deep in the bowels of an obscure building of the National Archives OR the NSA are satellite photos of military convoys headed from Baghdad to Damascus...we will never know for certain what the cargo was. But I can guess, can you? I vote with #2.

The BBC´s lack of curiosity about where Syria got it´s chemical weapons (cough, cough, Baghdad) would be astounding if it were not so ideologically predictable. Much like our msm.

Funny how ´Auntie Bebe´ does not mention that!

Pro-Russian activists, some armed, have stormed the HQ of the Ukrainian navy in the Crimean city of Sevastopol. Russian flags are flying over the base and several Ukrainian servicemen have been seen with their belongings. It comes a day after Crimean leaders signed a treaty with Russia absorbing the peninsula into the Russian Federation. Sunday´s disputed referendum which officials say backed splitting from Ukraine has been widely condemned. Crimean and Russian officials say the referendum showed overwhelming public support for joining Russia, with 97% of voters in favour. But the West and the Ukrainian government in Kiev say the vote--organised in two weeks and boycotted

Ukraine suffers its first deaths in Crimea as the crisis between Russia and Ukraine hits a ´military stage´. A Ukrainian serviceman and a member of a local self-defence brigade were shot dead, and many more were arrested in a Military base in Simferopol as the crisis between Russia and Ukraine escalates closer to all-out war. New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie took on a persistent health care activist Tuesday during a regularly scheduled town hall event in South River, New Jersey, fending off accusations for nearly four minutes. Maura Collinsgru, a health policy advocate with the liberal group New Jersey Citizen Action, blasted Christie during the question-and-answer event, the 114th such town hall he has held since taking office. She blamed him for meeting her fellow activists with ´silence´ when they try to help poor New Jerseyans access Medicaid benefits. ´Let me ask you this: When I expanded the Medicaid program, is that silence?´ retorted an

A convicted bribe-taker in President Barack Obama´s political backyard, and at least two other public servants accused of felonies, are seeking office in Tuesday´s Illinois Democratic primary elections. Former Chicago city alderman Isaac ´Ike´ Carothers spent 28 months in prison for taking bribes, and was released in March 2012. He´s running for commissioner of the Cook County board, among the most powerful positions in the Chicago metropolitan area. The torment being endured by the relatives of the passengers on board the missing Malaysian airliner is almost impossible to imagine. For 12 days since Flight MH370 from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing vanished, they have waited for news of their loved ones. And their anxieties and fears have been compounded by the clumsy way this baffling affair has been handled by the Malaysian authorities. Clearly, the disappearance of the Boeing 777 is an unprecedented event that would have taxed the resources of any country. But the varying--and often conflicting--accounts that the Malaysians have given about what might have happened to

Russia has moved to annex Crimea in all but name. The EU must now move to impose the “additional and far-reaching consequences” it has previously warned Russia of. Leaving aside stuff like expelling Russia from the G8 and arms embargoes (symbolic but not critical) and obvious measures like the EU diversifying its energy supply asap, what type of sanctions, if any, would actually hurt Russia in the short to medium-term? In a briefing published just now, Open Europe sets out following options: Extend individual sanctions beyond the current handful individuals: Between 2008 and 2013, a massive $421bn--equivalent to 20pc of Russian GDP--in

The mystery over the disappearance of Malaysia Airlines flight 370 has deepened after satellite data emerged to suggest the plane flew on for hours after it was reported missing. The search operation is now concentrating on huge areas to the north and south of Malaysia, after locational ´pings´ detected by a satellite appeared to indicate the plane was somewhere on an arc stretching either north up to to Central Asia, or south, to the Indian Ocean and Australia. Evidence revealed on Saturday 15 March by the Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak suggested the jet was deliberately diverted by someone on

Al-Qaeda has published a list of car-bomb targets for its followers in Britain, including FA cup matches and the Savoy hotel. The twelfth issue of Inspire, published by al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula, urges supporters to maximise casualties by targeting people--rather than buildings--in heavily populated areas. It offers instructions on how to build a car bomb using materials that will not arouse suspicion and frequently cites the example of Faisal Shahzad, the failed Times Square bomber. But its most chilling passages are reserved for a country-by-country list of targets. In the UK, it suggests events with live TV coverage, including

Claims today that the missing Malaysian Airlines jet dropped to an altitude of 5,000ft to avoid radar lends credibility to reports by villagers that they saw bright lights and loud noises at about the time the aircraft is thought to have made a ´U-turn´. Investigators told a Malaysian newspaper that the Boeing 777 had dropped to a lower altitude to avoid ground radar, using the surrounding terrain as a sonar barrier. This type of flying is considered to be dangerous and risky, because it places tremendous pressure on the frame of the aircraft--and flying low at night without radar assistance

President Obama on Monday slapped Russia with the kinds of economic sanctions not seen since the Cold War, but the administration’s supposed hard line was met with mockery and a “collective shrug” in Moscow, Kiev and Washington. One day after Crimeans voted overwhelmingly to secede from Ukraine and join Russia, the White House and its partners in the European Union responded by targeting high-ranking officials in Moscow along with pro-Russian figures responsible for the unrest in Ukraine. The move adds even more tension to a dramatic standoff between Russia and the West, but early signs suggest the latest round of

Hillary Clinton may well be the most "known" politician in the world. She and her husband, former President Bill Clinton, have been on the national stage for more than two decades -- traveling from Arkansas to the White House to the Senate to the 2008 campaign trail and finally to the State Department. During that time, every look and utterance from Hillary has been examined, then examined again, then analyzed, then overanalyzed. That´s why this series of photos -- shot by LIFE magazine in 1969 as part of a feature on outstanding college students -- is so fascinating. It captures
