Obama´s Successful Foreign Failure
Wall Street Journal, by Norman Podhoretz

Original Article

Posted By:Desert Fox, 9/8/2013 6:59:06 PM

It is entirely understandable that Barack Obama´s way of dealing with Syria in recent weeks should have elicited responses ranging from puzzlement to disgust. Even members of his own party are despairingly echoing in private the public denunciations of him as "incompetent," "bungling," "feckless," "amateurish" and "in over his head" coming from his political opponents on the right. For how else to characterize a president who declares war against what he calls a great evil demanding immediate extirpation and in the next breath announces that he will postpone taking action for at least 10 days—and then goes off to play golf

I tried to shout this "What Øbama really is" mantra from the rooftops. No one would listen. I was handed "tin foil hats". Now, it´s empty satisfaction to say, "I told ya so."

The brilliant Norman Podhoretz posits our worst nightmare: the community organizer as the America-hating leftist whose considered policy is to achieve what Conrad Black describes - the collapse of America as a superpower.

His success can be measured in proportion to the degree of America´s failures, hence, fecklessness domestically and abroad.

I´m afraid N.P. is correct, and if so, our dear leader is guilty of high crimes indeed.

Syria, a sovereign nation, did not sign the Chemical Weapons Convention of 1996.  The present conflict affects only Syrians.  This conflict is not an international dispute; it´s a civil war initiated by insurgents and fought entirely in Syria.

I think perhaps Norm and others OVER estimate Obama. Doing this all on purpose would take effort. What has he EVER exerted anywhere near this degree of effort on? The elections? Teleprompter speeches written by others, practiced and repeated over and over... anything independent has been a mistake needing to be "walked back" later. He´s put no time into budgets, domestic or foreign policy, his "signature accomplishments" Obamacare, bailouts, stimulus have all been written by others and he´s shown no interest in even knowing what was in them, let alone well enough to explain it. He´s too lazy to have done much of anything on purpose. As president his precedent is He´s just "Present".

There´s an awful lot of hand wringing coming from both sides of the media about this which tells me there´s a total lack of certainty over doing this.

On the other hand it wouldn´t surprise me if we saw a comeback kid narrative starting Weds. morning, along with a surge of support in the polls later on in the week.

We could actually waste a lot of precious guided bombs on Syria and not have enough left to fight a larger war.

None of the war´s supporters have come up with an explanation of why Assad would do this to begin with.Gassing civilians is a sure footed way of getting the world to turn on you.

Many here have known this would be the result even before Obama was elected in 2008. I would love to read some items written by NP back then. I suspect he was just like many others who "wanted to give Obama the benefit of the doubt." At least now NP is stating the obvious while many others prefer the state of denial..

His foreign policy, far from a dismal failure, is a brilliant success as measured by what he intended all along to accomplish...the fundamental transformation he had in mind was to turn this country into as close a replica of the social-democratic countries of Europe as the constraints of our political system allowed.

It´s tedious to continue to quote Rush Limbaugh so often, but he said the same thing before Obama was elected the first time and has continued to reiterate it since that time.

If you believe as I do that Podhoretz (and Rush) is right about Obama´s goals, Obama has been wildly successful. The Left rejoices, but is silent for fear of letting the red and yellow cat out of the bag; they really want what Obama is doing, with few exceptions.

What is left unsaid is that white conservatives are his main targets. He is in reparations mode, as are all his sycophants. I don´t believe this is arguable when you look at (a) the conduct of his justice Dept. and (b) his silence when black people kill white people. But let a white person or even a "white Hispanic" kill a black person and Obama´s all over that like white on rice.

Podhoretz´ title "..successful failure" is brilliant: It all depends on what you want for America.

I don´t think for a moment that hussein is the one bringing America to her knees. There is a huge communist force controlling every move he makes and has directed the assault on This, the Greatest Nation on Earth.

He and Crazy Uncle Joe remind me of Jeff Dunham´s Jalapeno on a Stick, (even looks like hussein) and Walter, (even looks like CUJ). hussein is not smart enough to carry out this criminal assault on our Constitution and this Great Country, America. He´s just put on a stick and shoved out in front of a microphone, as is CUJ, and spews the rancid pabulum of his handlers while they are in the background tearing this country apart!

When his teleprompter diatribes are over, his handlers take him off the stick and put him on another one, a golf club, so he´s shuttled out of sight. (Have we ever seen him play golf? Have we been privy to his golf scores? They tried to make him an avid gun nut with a fake shotgun and a puff of smoke.)

Don´t think for a minute he´s in any way in control. It´s a massive con job being foisted on US by a bunch of communist manipulators scurrying about in the background.

A commander must have the trust of the men he leads into battle.

Obama´s problem is that he´s a liar. Not just any liar but a pathological liar. A pathetic liar. If he tells us the sky is blue we step outside to be sure. Obama lost the trust of most of the American people long ago. I contend the straw that broke the backs of even the liberals were his series of whoppers about the sequester. Everyone was laughing at him behind his back and only his narcissism prevented him from seeing it.

So now he is asking the American people to "trust him" about Syria. This on the heels of his blatant lying about Benghazi. No, the well is dry. Once you have lost the trust of the people it is gone.

#10 and others: J.P. is right with the (major) exception that it isn´t BHO who is masterminding this ´change´.

In my humble opinion, Obama simply isn´t capable of the Triple Agent play that´s being used to pull this off. His oratory is far too plebeian (read-Chicago street) to demonstrate inordinate horsepower up there.

Consider the following:

his glaring need to kick back and relax
his demonstrably thin skin
his inability to refrain from insults
frequent straw man arguments
inconstant positions
made up data (50 jobs with Keystone)

No, this foreign policy is not originating with Obama but he´s OK with it. He´s content to look the occasional fool as long as he can blame it on the Racial Right, and half the country still adores and covers for him.
After all, the perks are incredibly good and last a lifetime.

If he weren´t president, he may be the man who hurls invectives at you from the sidewalk as you pass by.

Yes, it is uncanny, but when you see the country floundering with a weak economy, a weak foreign policy, the proliferation of regulators and bureaucrats, the special privileges for elites and cronies . . . the whole panoply of liberal/socialist stupidity, the response of many on the left is, ´Ah, finally this is the way things should be.´ Why don´t they move to socialist countries and leave us alone? (Ans. because they´re hypocrites and think that this system will benefit them.)

There is an awful lot of wining going on this morning about something everyone knew, but did nothing about. There is a tendency in DC for politicians to be overly polite and amiable to each other. That way they all get a share of pork and money.

Fortunately most conservatives tell it like it is and they are pounded by the RNC, GOP and all of the other lightweights for pointing out facts. We knew Obama was and is a front man and a total fraud. Well are we still going to go along with the McCain´s, Grahams and other total has-beens of the GOP. Are we going to run other fellow travelers like them for Federal Office and the Presidency. Or are we going to just get along.

I think we are spitting into the wind. One party is so far left it is embarrassing. The GOP has moved over to fill the void. They are merely leftists. Why hasn´t the House started Impeachment proceedings. Well leftists of any ilk stick together.

Many of us have known Obama was up to no good and that his enablers were up to no good before he was first "elected" to the Presidency. During his first term, his goal became painfully obvious - yet he was "re-elected". Why was he re-elected?

And now it seems many more people see what has been wrought - it is the death of America - and we sit and talk about it. Why aren´t we DOING something about it? I think I know why we sit and allow this to happen. We don´t want to go to jail or pay a fine. We don´t want to make waves - obviously waves in a sewer can get nasty. So the signal being sent to Obama and his cohorts is that they can easily win and will win.

And I believe that IF the goal is to make us more European-like, it purpose is to open the doors to Muslim culture and law. I think Obama is more Muslim than socialist.

How much more intriguing it is to think of this whole Obama charade using the assumption the imposter puppet is guided and totally controlled by Marxists. Norman writes rich phrases and is on track, but avoids the key factor, Obama’s back room communist puppeteers. Looking at it as a stealth conspiracy supervised by the likes of the always silent Jaret, Soros, and all of his agitating comrade cell mates, it all makes perfect sense. Poderetz wisely observes that Obama is, “avoiding the word `socialism’ “, the toxic label he will never use. Right on!, But Poderetz unquestioningly states he is President and assumes he will remain in office three more years. While NP has him over the proverbial barrel, he avoids any discussion of his presidency without papers. We don’t even know who he is, a guy with more than one name, redacted documents, who was born WHERE? In “CASABLANCA”, and many other studio films involving WWII nazi socialist Germans, there was always the question, “Your papers, please”. The poor refugee doesn’t have “papers”, tries to run away and is shot in the back! Sheriff Joe, Orly Taitz, and many others in America, have presented astounding evidence that Obama’s “papers” are forged. Only a few solid people in media (NOBODY in government), are even willing to openly discuss and debate the matter. If he is an imposter, not born in the USA, then he is not President, cannot be impeached, must be arrested for committing a treasonous act. Let’s face it, he makes it worse, acting like an imposter ….. a bad one at that.

Fourth act of "Welcome Back Carter´ Tehran 1979, Egypt 2011, Libya 2011. Tripoli fell and Meez Rodham Clinton declared: We came we saw, he died. The same day black flags went up all over Benghazi. Muslim Brotherhood came out and won Egypt. A prediction the dogs in the street and cats in the alleys would have correctly made. In Act IV, Barack O´Doofus wants Basher to loose to Hama. This is so stupid that it has to be planned.

Yes, it´s been clear from the beginning what Obozo´s goal was/is. The problem is that there were far too many lo-fo´s and leftists that just had to vote for the first black president. (small "p" intentional). And now, after 5yrs of his actions, it´s past time to start impeachment proceedings. We all know that there are many reasons why. And I know that he would never be convicted and removed from office, but the procedure itself would serve to educate the public and especially the lo-fo´s of just what Obozo is up to and what he has done to their freedoms and to the country at large. If nothing else, that would serve the nation. But, it needs to start now, today. Contact you Congressman and DEMAND that he/she get on board.

Actually Norman Podhoretz and Barack share in the failure. Podhoretz´s neoconservatism was rejected by the American people long before Syria. Such rejection was apparent in poll after poll after the Iraq debacle. The McCain / Romney failures to distance their foreign policy pronouncements from Middle East interventionism cost both the presidency. Barack´s fumbling just hastened the end of the neocons. Barack is no great salesman, but I´m convinced not even Cicero could convince Americans could go to war with another Middle East country. Finger-in-the- wind former neocons like Gingrich and Rubio are essentially saying that there is no upside to Middle East engagement, sounding more like Pat Buchanan every day.
I look forward to the final issues of Commentary and the Weekly Standard.

The only problem with all these articles and conservative TV personalities crying about what the President is doing to the United States is it isn´t real. We are being perceived as being weal because we have a weak government, by that I mean weak people in government but the United States is a nation of people who are strong and level headed. Only those that think Washington is the United States think we are weak. Let someone test us to see who really is the United States, and it isn´t those people in Washington DC. They are all incompetent and too far from the real America to truly understand where it´s strength comes from.

Boehner sucks down OhBombas bait like a large mouth bass swallows a night crawler. Of course genocide and chemical weapons is horrific. But we tolerate it. Al Qaeda goes into a Christian village, rounds them all up, tell them to convert to Muslim or die. The choose death, and boom, they get beheaded. OhBomba plays golf. Not a problem for him. He´s really a Muslim, and hates Christians as well. But Al Qaeda shoots chemical weapons in Syria, blames it on Assad, and Zero Hero believes it and is rushing us into war. Since when we are the make right all wrongs committed by mans inhumanity to man police? Rush hoped his policies would fail. He got it right.

The great re distributor redistributes blame and at least that is morbidly funny--good for a laugh.

Words matter and the Alinsky method is to chant the words "There he goes again, redistributing the blame". Or somesuch?

This is what happens when you have an idiot running the country, any idiot no matter the stripes. When you do stupid things it is most likely that bad results will follow. Look at the jokers that live in the inner city. They make one bad decision after another and look at the results and how they live - Detroit.

However, to compound the problem is THIS idiot hates America so he does little or nothing to right the missteps whether they be foreign or domestic policy.

Another way of saying it is "doing stupid things brings bad results." If you desire is bad results so as to diminish this country, then there is nothing to change. Then you just keep doing what you´re doing. Making bad decisions takes no effort or brain power.

#41 and anyone else perpetuating Rush´s myth...

Voters select nominees in primaries.
Romney got more votes in primaries than all other GOP candidates combined.

Rush strongly backed Romney in 2008.
Thus why not again in 2012?
Why the myth that an "Establishment" that cannot vote in primaries had "forced"
Romney or anyone else on the voters?
That´s just silly season, and contributes to the DimWitz slam that all of us are stupid.

JFK went the primary route in 1960 precisely because the Establishment of party bosses
(DimWit gubers and mayors, etc) did not want him ever to be on a ticket.
Primaries are to avoid having the Establishment make the selection.
Party bosses have been neutered ever since.

Rush dumbly repeated over and over that since the Tea Party got great results in
the 2010 midterms, the Tea Party owned the nomination in 2012.

Only the illiterate believe and perpetuate that myth. A presidential primary season is
not a midterm election. What part of that does Rush not understand yet?
He needs to untie half his brain and use it.
Consider me sick of lies and myths.
I also am sick of the Bushes, Rush´s big buddies. They are limousine liberals.

Just ahead of a possible Hillary run for the presidency, the Clinton Library released a new load of documents from President Bill Clinton’s years in the White House. One of those documents attempts to explain Hillary´s "vast right-wing conspiracy" claim in which the Clinton administration accused Republican staffers of colluding with "extremists" on the Internet to hurt the Clintons. On January 27, 1998, Hillary Clinton appeared on NBC´s Today Show. During her interview with Matt Lauer, she claimed that a "vast right-wing conspiracy" had been trying to destroy her husband "since the day he announced for president." That interview drew

When British photojournalist Charles Ommanney traveled through six states to photograph American gun owners, he found something he did not expect: they don´t fit the stereotypes. According to PolicyMic.com, Ommanney was sent to photograph American gun owners for the German magazine Stern. In so doing, he discovered "people who are often far from the stereotypical vision of the American ´gun-nut.´" He found a teenager named Elizabeth, who posed with a Walther handgun "in front of a floral wallpaper backdrop." He found entire families--mother, father, daughter, son--who posed with their firearms of choice. Ommanney also found one woman with a pump shotgun for home

As the nation awaits Hillary Clinton´s decision of whether or not she will run for president in 2016, a cache of 7,500 pages of newly released documents from Bill Clinton´s years in the White House show some familiar political themes. One revelation is that Bill Clinton worried that a massive new healthcare scheme would cause Americans to lose their insurance. In 1993, the President allowed his wife, first lady Hillary Clinton, to become the face of an Obamacare-like takeover of the nation´s healthcare system. The plan was sarcastically dubbed Hillarycare. But as these internal documents show, in what is now a

For Hillary Clinton, having her own baby grandchild to kiss on the campaign trail, could be one of the biggest boosts to her possible presidential election campaign. Although the former Secretary of State and First Lady has not said if she will run in 2016, the arrival of her first grandchild will soften her image, analysts have said. While Chelsea only revealed her pregnancy on Thursday, supporters of her mother have already started cooing over a possible baby in the White House. With the Clintons having a near-royal status in the U.S., the announcement of a new arrival due this fall has sent

WASHINGTON AND NEW YORK - In September 2001, as the U.S. reeled from the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon, Vladimir Putin supported Washington´s imminent invasion of Afghanistan in ways that would have been inconceivable during the Cold War. He agreed that U.S. planes carrying humanitarian aid could fly through Russian air space. He said the U.S. military could use airbases in former Soviet republics in Central Asia. And he ordered his generals to brief their U.S. counterparts on their own ill-fated 1980s occupation of Afghanistan. During Putin´s visit to President George W. Bush´s Texas ranch two

The exact identify of the aircraft remains a mystery, but rumours abound that it could be a secret jet. ´The photo is grainy because it was taken with a hand-held maxed-out 400mm telephoto lens through a cloud layer and then it was severely cropped to bring it up even close,´ says Jeff Templin, who took the photo on 16 April. ´There is no way to know the altitude and no way to judge its

Could the 2016 presidential election turn into a contest between a Bush and a Clinton? Political debate in America last week revolved around whether or not Jeb Bush, Florida´s former governor who is son or brother to two former US presidents – both named George – would jump into the 2016 battle for the Republican presidential nomination. For a nation that fought a war for independence from the hereditary power of the British Crown, in the person of another fellow named George, the concept of nominating a third Bush to run for the White House against a second Clinton (the former

Alert shoppers are accustomed to watching food prices go up and down. But a string of forces—from droughts to diseases—is raising the cost of a trip to the grocery store at a rapid clip. And it looks like it will be a while before the price pressure eases. Some of that pressure is coming from California—the source of roughly half the nation´s fruits and vegetables—where a long-running drought is forcing farmers and ranchers to cut production. After the driest year on record, large sections of farmland are expected to lay fallow this year as the Golden State copes with an ongoing water

Sen. Dean Heller (R-Nev.) on Friday called for a Senate hearing into the dispute between Nevada rancher Cliven Bundy and the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) over cattle grazing. Heller described as "patriots" the people who came armed to Bundy’s ranch after the BLM began to seize his cattle for refusing to pay grazing fees and fines that now total more than $1 million. Heller debated the ranch standoff on a Nevada television station with Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.), who has called the armed Bundy supporters “domestic terrorists.” "What senator Reid may call domestic terrorists, I call patriots," Heller said.

The White House is going to war with another fox — and this time, it’s personal. The Wall Street Journal reports that a red fox has been causing chaos around the White House, tripping security alarms, digging up Michelle’s garden and distracting the president from his duties. The Secret Service won’t give any details about how often the fox trips the White House’s obviously sophisticated security alarms, but rest assured, officials say, they’re watching. President Obama was apparently “stunned” to see the fox roaming freely down the oft-photographed White House colonnade, home to the world’s shortest, but most dramatic, outdoor strolls. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid said Thursday that a family of dissident ranchers and their supporters in his home state of Nevada are ´domestic terrorists,´ citing this week´s standoff with the federal government´s Bureau of Land Management. Cliven Bundy has refused to pay grazing fees for land where his hundreds of cattle roam every day. The land is owned by the federal government, which says he owes more than $1 million. Bundy, however, insists that since his family has been using the land since the 1870s, Uncle Sam can´t collect the grazing fees. A tense standoff developed this week after
