Lopatcong — A Warren County man has ensured that anyone who passes by his house will have a lasting impression of it. The semi-retired Lopatcong cabinet maker designed a mailbox that resembles a huge Smith & Wesson .44 Magnum revolver, according to a report on LehighValleyLive.com. Roger Buchko said he cooked up the idea when he saw similar mailboxes online. Though he is a gun rights supporter, he said isn´t attempting to make a political statement. The mailbox, which is made of wood and PVC piping, weighs several hundred pounds. It´s mounted on 1,200-pound steel plate. A friend who is an

as long as he doesn´t live in a HOA controlled area, I can´t see where/how anyone could force removal. The only controlling interest (so far) in ´´decorative´´ mailboxes has always been the USPS and their rule is that there has to be a regulation mailbox contained therein. Looks like he has that covered.

Of course, it almost seems that daily we find there´s some new rule or law that someone runs afoul of. Give the local governing authority time - they´ll come up with something...

U.S. homebuilder confidence
sinks in February
Associated Press, by Alex Veiga    Original Article

U.S. homebuilders’ confidence in the housing market has declined sharply as the severe weather battering much of the nation keeps many would-be buyers at home. Storms and cold weather dampened builders’ outlook for sales ahead of the spring home-selling season and could further slow the pace of home construction. The National Association of Home Builders/Wells Fargo builder sentiment index slid to 46. That’s down from January’s reading of 56 and is the lowest level since May. Readings below 50 indicate that more builders view sales conditions as poor rather than good. Builders’ view of current sales conditions for

Oxford, Miss. — The FBI on Tuesday was helping investigate who tied a noose around the neck of a University of Mississippi statue of James Meredith, who, in 1962, became the first black student to enroll in the then all-white Southern college. University police on Sunday morning found the rope noose and, on the statue’s face, a pre-2003 Georgia state flag with a Confederate battle symbol, said campus police Chief Calvin Sellers. Two men were seen near the statue early Sunday and investigators were looking at surveillance footage. “It’s a racial hate crime,” Mississippi NAACP president Derrick Johnson said

Curtains make do as doors and lockers form walls of makeshift classrooms inside cramped, cash-strapped DeKalb Middle School in the wooded hills of the Upper Cumberland region. But there’s no way to jury-rig what the school really needs: Chromebook computers, updated software and bandwidth. Like all local school districts in Tennessee, DeKalb County schools are preparing for new computerized testing that aligns with Common Core academic standards, which have phased into the state’s classrooms in recent years. Right now, the 600 students at the county’s middle school — a 1970s “open-space” building in Smithville — take turns to use a

As this old photograph from Somerset shows, it used to be water under the bridge. But that was in the 1960s, when the river was regularly dredged. Now, as the residents of Burrowbridge are all too aware, the width of this stretch of the River Parrett has practically halved. As a result it regularly bursts its banks, flowing over and around the bridge instead. In startling contrast to today´s scenario, the picture, taken five decades ago, shows a wide expanse of water passing through Burrowbridge with plenty of room for water levels to rise. There´s a debate going on about Hillary Clinton´s past. If she runs for president in 2016, should Republicans reach back to the scandals of her years as First Lady? Or should they focus on more recent times, especially her tenure as Secretary of State, to build a case against her? The GOP doesn´t have to choose. Of course Clinton´s recent experiences are relevant to a presidential run. But so are her actions in the 90s, the 80s and even the 70s. It´s not ancient history; it reveals something about who Clinton was and still is. And re-examining her past is entirely consistent with practices in recent campaigns. In the 2012 presidential race,
