Congressional aides in both parties tell me that the chances of President Obama winning House approval for military action in Syria are so bad they actually doubt the House would ultimately vote on it if failure seemed certain. Two new whip counts of House members by ABC News and the liberal Firedoglake web site show a majority of House members firmly or leaning against intervention. The Washington Post’s more conservative count stands at 204 “no” votes, only 13 short of the majority needed to kill the president’s request. President Obama’s aides say he will begin lobbying Congress personally after he returns from
I would love to see him humiliated. A dose of humility is what this "I, me, my, mine" president needs. A vote of no confidence.
I disagree with the Republicans who believe it would be bad for our world image for out president to be "humiliated". Obie has the bad world image about now. Let it be His. By voting him down we would declare as a country that we will not act rashly to cover our president´s backside when he shoots from the lip.
When the crap hits the fan in Syria, Obama is going to lay off the blame on the Republicans in the Congress, and maybe even on G.W. Bush if his crew can think of a way, as he has always done. To anyone who has been paying attention for the last few years there should be no surprise there.
If the House of Representatives does not vote, it´s just like giving Obama a wink and a nod to do what he wants to do in Syria.
Boehner is a total failure, ...unless he is just other statist pol at heart. In that devious case, he & 0bama/Reid would seem to be progressing along their socialist track. ...Doesn´t ANYONE in Washington fulfill their oaths of office anymore?!!!
Here we go again; Republicans refusing to take the political upper hand that can label the Democrats for what they are! The votes are always important however it goes to show the voters where their guy stands. The Democrats never, NEVER, pass on an opportunity to label the Republicans even when it is lies.
Hear is a prime example why this leadership will never preside over a majority again. I said in 2010 what would happen if Republicans left the establishment in leadership. Sure enough they fold at every turn and refuse to play tough politics that ultimately leads to a successful conservative agenda. And it´s why we see our country sliding into the armpit of history.
The vote should be present with the addition that the House can´t offer a vote until the facts are made clear and the truth is admitted about illegal arms for radical rebels and Benghazi-- fast and furious mid Eastern style.
We all need to be on the phone to Boehner´s office demanding a vote. We need to see on the record the names of any congresscritter who votes to turn our pilots into Al-Qaeda Air Force and the rest of our military into mercenaries for Saudi Arabia & Qatar.
At a recent book tour stop for her best-selling book, Good Tidings and Great Joy: Protecting the Heart of Christmas, former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin drew a blue-collar crowd consisting of all races in Fort Campbell, Kentucky. As can be seen in the video below, many who came to see Palin said they identified with her because she has a son in the military. Others said they loved her "values" and how she "stands by them." An active duty soldier said that Palin "speaks the truth" and is "straight-forward." "And I like that so much," the active duty soldier said. Another gentleman said
CancelCare: Dismissed as anecdotal exceptions, as many as 80 million people with employer health plans, like a Virginia cancer patient, now find their coverage being canceled because it doesn´t comply with ObamaCare. Debra Fishericks, who has been working for the past 10 years at Atkinson Realty in Virginia Beach, has been frantically scouring Healthcare.gov for a plan that fits her. But she´s finding, like so many others, that premiums and plans like the one she had are out of her price range. Fishericks is battling kidney cancer, and while one of the benefits of ObamaCare was supposed to be that people with pre-existing
Trust: We know ObamaCare was sold on a lie, but what about the Obama presidency itself? Rumors that Obama´s violent leftist pal Bill Ayers ghostwrote the memoir that launched his political career may actually be true. Obama has always claimed authorship of his bestselling "Dreams From My Father." But Ayers is telling a different story. In promoting his new book, "Public Enemy," Ayers´ publisher, Beacon Press, has written a blurb on Amazon.com that says Ayers "finally ´confesses´ that he did write ´Dreams From My Father.´" The boast appears in other promotions for the book as well. For instance, a Baltimore bookstore — Red
Appeasement: On both uranium and plutonium the terrorist state of Iran can continue to work toward nuclear weaponry. Except for that minor quibble, the so-called "Joint Plan of Action" is great. It takes something big to distract the nation from ObamaCare, the IRS scandal, Benghazi, and the Census Bureau moonlighting as Obama campaign aides — like a pact getting Islamofascist Iran to give up its nuclear program. But that is not what was announced last weekend to much hoopla in both Geneva by Secretary of State John Kerry and in Washington by President Obama. It might be big in terms of appeasement, but
Human moral progress is not a given, as progressives would like Americans to believe. Take the ancient punishment of stoning, for example. A report in the Wall Street Journal earlier this week said the Afghan government is considering draft legislation to inflict as punishment public stoning on men and women who commit adultery. Abdul Raouf Brahawee, the director of legislation at the Afghan Ministry of Justice told the paper that, "The Islamic Sharia instructs us to do so… There is a verse in the Quran about it." So much for 21st century enlightenment. Is this a case of former Sec. of State Hillary
All three networks on Tuesday hyped an "interesting" exchange between Barack Obama and a liberal heckler. ABC, CBS and ABC declined, however, to specifically note that the man´s concern was that the President simply wasn´t liberal enough on the issue of immigration reform. On NBC´s Today, Natalie Morales praised, "You know, I think that the President handled it well by engaging." [See video below. MP3 audio here.] Co-host Willie Geist defended the President´s insistence that he needs Congress to pass legislation. Geist sympathetically noted, "The President´s argument was ´I can´t wave the magic wand and make this go away.´ But he
RUSH: I must hit you with what is said to be a correction. Yesterday we opened with the big news that the World Health Organization, which is part of the United Nations, reported that half of the AIDS or HIV infections in Greece were self-inflicted. The economy is so bad, the welfare state so entrenched that the World Health Organization said that half of the HIV infections in Greece are self-inflicted so that the recipients can get the equivalent of $900 a month welfare, 700-some-odd euros. Well, today the World Health Organization has apologized. They blamed an editing error for claiming
Leave it to MSNBC to see Thanksgiving as a time to be thankful for ObamaCare, Wendy Davis, same-sex marriage, and John Kerry hammering out an interim nuclear deal with Iran. "In a year where Congress’ approval rating has reached an all time low, an embattled President Obama faces the healthcare challenge that could define his legacy, and the timetable for US troops in Afghanistan remains murky, it is all too easy to become cynical about the public sphere," MSNBC.com writers Johnny Simon and Farra Kober confessed in a piece published this morning. "But when members of the msnbc family paused to
RUSH: This is Robert in Vermont. Robert, great to have you here on the Rush Limbaugh program. Hi. CALLER: Rush, it´s a real privilege to speak to you. Thank you for taking my call. RUSH: Thank you, sir. Thanks very much. CALLER: I have to confess I am a college professor, a business professor at a liberal arts college in Vermont. Needless to say, as I told Snerdley, I am on the endangered species list. I do want to mention the delicious irony that you´re going to witness next year. Among those 80 to 100 million people who are going to lose their
RUSH: The Health Care Stack just keeps growing and growing and growing. The Obama poll numbers continue to plummet, and now Wolf Blitzer is officially concerned at CNN, finally addressed the poll numbers. Obama is now stacking his personal appearances with hecklers. A lot of people are making a big deal about the heckler in San Francisco at Obama´s immigration rally or appearance. Somebody wrote the script for the heckler, and it allowed Obama to portray the Limbaugh Theorem, "Yeah, I agree with you, I´m trying to fix it. I´m working with Congress, but, you know, I just can´t make
When we got up this morning, there was an email on our BlackBerry from "Barack Obama." We assumed that, like all the other emails we get from "Obama," it was a fundraising pitch from Organizing for Action, the 501(c)(4) "social welfare" organization that sells access to the president. We began reading: Dear the American People, Things are tough for me at the moment; as you may know, the website for my health care plan had a big glitch. If I were my predecessor, I´d order a full-scale attack on Webistan. Fortunately Webistan doesn´t exist, so I´ve just had to deal. Dealing is hard. But
The White House on Tuesday would not categorically rule out future executive actions to address immigration, while continuing to maintain "there is not" anything the president could do in lieu of congressional action on comprehensive reform. “I don’t want to speculate about what sort of actions the president might or might not take," White House spokesman Josh Earnest told reporters. Obama has come under pressure from immigration activists, who have challenged the president to act unilaterally now that a comprehensive immigration bill appears stalled in the House.
Everyone has a favorite recipe, find it in the back of a kitchen drawer, call your mom, see if you still have that dog-eared copy of the Joy of Cooking. It´s on the back of an old electric bill stuck inside the back cover. Find it and post it for all your LCom friends. If you have a special request let us know, someone can find it somewhere.
Conservatives have for years attempted to put our finger upon precisely why Barack Obama strikes us as queer in precisely the way he does. There is an alienness about him, which in the fever swamps is expressed in all that ridiculous Kenyan-Muslim hokum, but his citizen-of-the-world shtick is strictly sophomore year — the great globalist does not even speak a foreign language. Obama has been called many things — radical, socialist — labels that may have him dead to rights at the phylum level but not down at his genus or species. His social circle includes an alarming number of
Noel Ignatiev, a professor at Massachusetts College of Art, has for years advocated the total elimination of Caucasians. During his final lecture before retirement last Monday, he told his white male students "you don’t deserve to live. You are a cancer, you’re a disease." NOEL IGNATIEV: If you are a white male, you don’t deserve to live. You are a cancer, you’re a disease, white males have never contributed anything positive to the world! They only murder, exploit and oppress non-whites! At least a white woman can have sex with a black man and make a brown baby but what can a
Appearing on Arsenio Hall’s talk show over the weekend, ?Jesse Jackson defended both President Obama, who he said has faced heretofore unseen advsersity as president, as well as Jackson’s embattled son, who he said “had the best voting record in the Congress” before he was sentenced by unfair laws. On the president, Jackson praised him for “serving us well against the most hostility an American president has ever had” and “more attempts to derail his legislation then in the history of the country.” Between job creation and his efforts in Iraq, President Obama has “maintained a kind of dignity” without stooping
Pure, sweet, schadenfreudean goodness from Politico. See now why I think there’s a chance that those new Iran sanctions pass with veto-proof majorities? Turns out, after three years and a half years of development plus two months of frantic triage to Healthcare.gov, Democrats are finally ready to hold the White House accountable for its giant O-Care fark-up. A little. “The president and his team have repeatedly assured us that the system will be working by Dec. 1. That’s when I start looking at what we have to do in our oversight function to hold the administration accountable for making it work.” Rep.
Normally, I don´t traffic much in gossip, but the case of Valerie Jarrett is different. She may well be the most powerful woman in America, and almost certainly is the most powerful member of the Obama administration. The adjective "shadowy" definitely applies to this woman who enjoys her power through her relationship to the President, having never been confirmed by Senate hearings. Her title as "Senior Adviser" to the President barely scratches the surface of her real power. President Obama has time for his 150+ rounds of golf, his extensive television watching, and his expertise on March Madness bracketology because ValJar,
Located just 50 miles off the U.S. coast, north of New York City, sits Petra, a heart-shaped island that now belongs to Brad Pitt, after Angelina reportedly shelled out £12.2million to buy it for his 50th birthday. Pitt is apparently an architect fanatic, so when Jolie discovered that the island´s only two homes were designed by Frank Lloyd Wright, she was sold. Pitt once said,“When I discovered Charles Rennie Mackintosh and Frank Lloyd Wright, it changed my life.” A source revealed that “as soon as Angelina heard the island was on the market she arranged a viewing. She was really impressed.
Former Utah Gov. Jon Huntsman (R) left the door open to another presidential run during a Monday panel in New Hampshire. Asked whether he ever thinks about running again — Huntsman dropped out of the 2012 Republican primary after finishing third in New Hampshire — he suggested he hadn´t ruled out the option. He closed a long response to the question, posed at Saint Anselm College, by saying: "Which is a long way of saying that I love public service. I´ll always be committed to public service. And as an itinerant public servant, from time to time, it´s hard to know where
SANFORD, Fla. — George Zimmerman had five guns and more than 100 rounds of ammunition with him when deputies arrested him earlier this month on domestic violence charges, according to court documents released Tuesday. A search warrant made public by the Seminole County court clerk shows that Zimmerman had a 12-gauge shotgun, an AR-15 assault rifle and three handguns when he was arrested Nov. 18 at his girlfriend´s house. The girlfriend, Samantha Scheibe, told deputies that Zimmerman pointed a shotgun at her during an argument and also used it to smash her coffee table. Zimmerman is free on $9,000 bail on charges
"Trust is like virginity: once you lose it it´s hard to get it back." So spoke pollster John Zogby, commenting on his latest poll on President Obama´s handling of his office. Quoted by Paul Bedard in the Washington Examiner: "Most ominous for Mr. Obama is that 57 percent now disapprove of his job. That is his worst number yet. This includes 57 percent of men and 55 percent of women; 51 percent of moderates, 24 percent of liberals and 24 percent of Democrats; 66 percent of independents and 40 percent of Hispanics. Meanwhile, a separate poll by CNN/ORC International found: 53%
Maybe it was something about what they served in the White House mess in the 1990s. Or perhaps it´s what happens to baby boomer Democrats more than a decade after leaving office. For whatever the reason former vice president Al Gore has gone vegan, just like the president with whom he once served. Gore´s recent decision to forgo animal products surfaced as an offhand reference in a Forbes magazine piece about Hampton Creek Foods, an upscale vegan product line carried in Whole Foods. Ryan Mac´s article, which posted Saturday, chronicled how wealthy investors including Bill Gates, Tom Steyer and Vinod Khosla
Alec Baldwin has been fired by MSNBC, sources say. The rage-aholic’s weekly show, “Up Late With Alec Baldwin,” has been canceled because of the actor’s foul-mouthed rant at a photographer he called a nasty name. “The decision has been made. He’s gone,” an insider at the cable channel told me. “The [parent company] Comcast guys have decided. Word is spreading through the building.” Baldwin’s dismissal was decided on partly because of his diva-like behavior toward co-workers, a source said.
