The unemployment rate for African American teenagers aged 16 to 19 was 38.2 percent in August, according to the latest figures released by the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS). This figure is nearly twice the 20.5 percent unemployment rate for white teens of the same age, and down less than a percentage point from the 38.8 percent black teen unemployment rate BLS reported in August 2012. The jobless rate for black teenagers hovered in the 40 percent range all summer, prime earning time for students trying to save for college. It peaked in June at 43.6 percent, compared to 20.4 percent for
The overall teen unemployment rate is a disaster, but especially for blacks. They need to develop basic job skills. If the cost to employ labor continues to increase those jobs will go to the 55+ demographic.
It´s no wonder they are peeved and mad about everything...Hey Dudes/Dudetts...OBIE is responsible for all of this, in fact He´s doing it on purpose to keep you on the Lib Plantation. Get a freekin Clue!
Had much the same thoughts as well-regarded poster #1, but numerically.
The unemployment rate is meaningless by itself if one wants to understand the actuality of things.
There are three numbers and all must be in the mix. a. unemployment rate b. drop-out rate c. arrest rate
Oh, yeah... I think there´s a fourth number. It has to do with a Bell Curve, and the median point. Can´t... quite... remember... what it measures. Sorry.
"Monday? Can´t work Monday, boss. Gotta meet my parole officer. Wednesday? Sorry. Gotta go to the clinic for the court-mandated drug test. Thursday? Friday? Can´t. Got court appearances on late child-support payments. An´ Tuesday I gotta make the rounds of the baby mommas and get my cut from their AFDIC checks. Man, boss, you sure don´t wanna hire a black kid, do ya, Cracker? Is that a video camera pointin´ at the back door? That the only one in here?"
All of the black Dems/libs/progs complain about the unemployment rate for young blacks. But all they do is complain and then point fingers saying it is whitey´s fault. Please tell us all....what jobs are they qualified to do beyond manual labor? Most can´t read, write english, do basic math, etc. so who´ll hire them and I haven´t even covered the excess of tattoos, baggy pants, sideways caps.
The problems are obvious for all to see even Stevie Wonder but will never be commented on because accountability and responsibility would come into the picture. whitey is NOT the cause of this dysfunction!!!!
Most construction and warehouse jobs these days require Spanish. Call centers want bilingual employees - English/Spanish. Manufacturing jobs have been shipped overseas. And the public school educators want high school to include 4 years of English, history, math and science, leaving little time for any courses that could help someone who is not college-bound to learn a trade.
There is nothing ´progressive´ about the current public school curriculum. We would be much better off to go back to the types of courses taught 50 years ago: auto technology, welding, plumbing, use of basic tools, etc. - things that could help someone both get a job and maintain their own car and home. Preparing 100% of the population for college is ludicrous.
Things that will terminate a job interview with me in the first 30 seconds: Saggy pants If first sentence spoken sounds like Ebonics Sideways cap Any sentence ending with "ya know what I mean?" The question, "need to see my rap sheet?"
Rep. Michele Bachmann says she is one of the people who lost their health insurance because of Obamacare and she won’t go shopping on a health exchange until it’s fixed. “Are you kidding? I’m not going to waste an hour on that thing,” the Minnesota Republican said when Wolf Blitzer asked her on CNN on Thursday if she’d signed up on the exchange website. “I lost my health insurance under Obamacare. And so now I’m forced to go into the D.C. health exchange. I’m waiting until they fix this thing. I’m not going to sit there and frustrate myself for hours and hours.” Bachmann was referencing
Washington - President Barack Obama will nominate the head of a doctors group that promotes his signature healthcare law to be the next U.S. surgeon general, the White House said on Thursday, shortly after Obama proposed a "fix" for the latest problem with the law. Vivek Hallegere Murthy, president of Doctors for America, will succeed Rear Admiral Boris Lushniak, who has been acting as the surgeon general since July, overseeing public health endeavors around the country, after Regina Benjamin completed her four-year term. Doctors for America is a group of 15,000 physicians and
California Republican gubernatorial candidate Tim Donnelly recently saved the life of a potential voter while out on the campaign trail. The campaign of Donnelly, a member of the California State Assembly, uploaded a video on YouTube showing the Republican successfully giving a woman the Heimlich maneuver during a political dinner last week. The video is titled, “Assemblyman Donnelly to the rescue!” “You all right?” Donnelly, wearing a wearing a black cowboy hat, asks after successfully helping the woman. “Thank you so much,” she told Donnelly afterwards, hugging the candidate.
Jerusalem - President Shimon Peres urged Israelis on Friday to show respect for the United States, seeking to soothe relations with the country´s most powerful ally that have been strained over Iran. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has condemned a proposal, endorsed by Washington, to reduce sanctions if Iran suspends parts of its nuclear program. Several ministers have also harshly criticized Washington, prompting Peres to intervene. "We must not underestimate the importance of this friendship. There can be disagreements, but they must be conducted with a view to the true depth of the situation," Peres said in comments released by his office. "If we
Caracas - Venezuela´s socialist government has arrested more than 100 "bourgeois" businessmen in a crackdown on alleged price-gouging at hundreds of shops and companies since the weekend, President Nicolas Maduro said on Thursday. "They are barbaric, these capitalist parasites!" Maduro thundered in the latest of his lengthy daily speeches. "We have more than 100 of the bourgeoisie behind bars at the moment." The successor to the late Hugo Chavez also said his government was preparing a law to limit Venezuelan businesses´ profits to between 15 percent and 30 percent. Officials say unscrupulous companies have been hiking prices of electronics and other goods more
Russia will help Iran build a second nuclear power plant, according to Tehran’s top nuclear official. The head of Iran’s atomic energy organization announced the deal on Wednesday as lawmakers on Capitol Hill fought back against a White House bid to stop them from passing new sanctions on Iran. “We hope to see the construction of the country’s second nuclear power station start” in March 2014 and be led “by the Russians,” Ali Akbar Salehi, head of the Iranian Atomic Energy Organization, announced on Tuesday, according to state-run media reports. Russia will head construction on the nuclear plant, which is one of just
Washington — The Central Intelligence Agency is secretly collecting bulk records of international money transfers handled by companies like Western Union — including transactions into and out of the United States — under the same law that the National Security Agency uses for its huge database of Americans’ phone records, according to current and former government officials. The C.I.A. financial records program, which the officials said was authorized by provisions in the Patriot Act and overseen by the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court, offers evidence that the extent of government data collection programs is not fully known and that the national debate
On Friday, the House of Representatives approved legislation sponsored by Rep. Fred Upton (R-MI) that would allow insurers to continue to offer policies on the individual market. The vote was 261-157. 39 Democrats voted for the Upton Amendment, which is an indication the Democrat united front on Obamacare is cracking. ObamaCare largely eliminates the individual market and forces those policy holders into the health exchanges. On Thursday, Obama proposed extending the individual market for one year. The Upton bill would not only let existing policies continue, but insurers could sell individual policies to new customers. The White House has vowed to
Twelve weeks from today, the US government will hit its borrowing limit. When Congress lifted the debt ceiling last month, for the first time ever, it pegged the increase to a specific date, rather than a dollar amount. The current borrowing authority expires in just 84 days, on February 7th. Three major policy challenges are converging in January. Government spending authority expires in the middle of the month, just three weeks ahead of the debt ceiling. There is also likely to be ongoing agonizing about the implementation of ObamaCare. January 1st is the deadline for individuals to have insurance. If the website
Harvard professor David Cutler, a so-called architect of Obamacare, says we "could be" witnessing "the beginning of a death spiral" for the unpopular health care bill. Cutler made the comments last night on Fox News: (snip for video) "So when you were on last week I asked you, if they don´t get enough people in the exchanges, then what happens?" said host Megyn Kelly. "And you said then the premiums go up very, very high. Now, was that ball put in motion today?" "We don´t know yet," said Cutler. "So what the president is trying to do is to say the website is
The dilemma of Barack Obama and his loyal Democrats is the gift few Republicans could have imagined only a fortnight ago. It’s the gift that keeps on giving, and Obamacare is no bast**d child. The president is the daddy who used to be a prouder papa than he is today. The cigars he passed around to celebrate this baby are exploding all over the place. Everything the president does puts him deeper in the hole. His grudging concession Thursday that Obamacare stinks like the baby’s diaper was followed by the new promise that he would fix it with instructions not to
HHS released the enrollment numbers for the federally run health-care exchange and most of the state-run exchanges today, the first comprehensive set of data that had been released so far. Bearing in mind that it’s the first month of enrollment, and we still don’t know much about the customers, here are a few thoughts on what they show us: 80 percent (or more) of the people who’ve gotten insurance so far have done so through Medicaid: About 400,000 people who’ve entered the exchanges have been determined eligible for Medicaid, while about 100,000 have selected an insurance plan for which they’re eligible
In a recent interview with BBC News, Oprah Winfrey said that President Obama is disrespected because he is an African-American. "There’s a level of disrespect for the office that occurs. And that occurs in some cases and maybe even many cases because he’s African-American," Winfrey said. "There’s no question about that, and it’s the kind of thing nobody ever says but everybody’s thinking it." Speaking with the BBC´s Will Gompertz in the UK to promote "The Butler," Winfrey also spoke to the global issue of racism. "It´s gotten better. Are there still places where people are terrorized because of the color of their
President Obama announces today that he supports a “fix” for Obamacare that would allow some Americans to keep the healthcare plans they already had for an additional year. That was already built into the Affordable Care Act aka Obamacare law. It’s not an actual change to anything, it’s just an attempt to get out ahead of the bills that Republican Fred Upton and Democrat Mary Landrieu are sponsoring in the House and Senate that would legislatively “fix” Obamacare. It’s an exercise in blame-shifting, and an abdication of leadership. As news of the plan leaked, skepticism spread.(Snip for tweets)Barack Obama’s credibility
To paraphrase Oscar Wilde, you’d have to have a heart of stone not to laugh at the unraveling of Obamacare. First, the obligatory caveats. It is no laughing matter that millions of Americans’ lives have been thrown into anxious chaos as they lose their health insurance, their doctors, their money, or all three. Nor is it particularly amusing to think of the incredible waste of time and tax dollars that has gone into Obamacare’s construction. And the still-unfolding violence that this misbegotten legislation will visit on the economy and our liberties is not funny either. This very magazine has been downright
Oprah Winfrey, one of the most powerful women in the world, declared she would not be stripping off her lingerie to get ‘buck naked’ on screen. The billionaire TV tsarina and occasional actress was speaking to me about her role in director Lee Daniels’s movie The Butler, in which she plays Gloria, wife of a White House butler played by Forest Whitaker. Gloria becomes bored with her middle-class life while her husband’s off looking after ‘that other family in the White House’. Oprah said that after a while Gloria starts to drink, and fools around with a neighbour, played by
In his 2007 biography of Barack Obama, Obama: From Promise to Power, Chicago Tribune reporter David Mendell described the exchange he had with then-Illinois state Sen. Barack Obama just minutes before he delivered the keynote address at the 2004 Democratic National Convention in Boston: After Obama and I slipped through a security checkpoint and he momentarily broke free from the entourage, I sidled up to him and told him that he seemed to be impressing many people of influence in this rarefied atmosphere. Obama, his gaze fixed directly ahead, never broke his stride. “I´m LeBron, baby,” he replied, referring to LeBron
Desperate times call for desperate measures, so on Thursday one desperate President, Barack Obama, attempted to sell the idea that he had found a way to keep his Obamacare pledge: “If you like your insurance plan, you can keep it.” This exuberantly delivered and oft-repeated sales pitch for the program that has dominated his presidency “ended up not being accurate,” as Obama mincingly put it. He had no choice — not when health insurers complying with his regulations have canceled policies for millions of Americans. Not when those newly uninsured cannot buy coverage using Obama’s botched website. Not when congressional Democrats are panicking
On Wednesday, Senator Mark Udall (D-CO) introduced a bill in the Senate that would allow Americans to keep their health insurance plans for a limit of two years. “I have repeatedly said that the Affordable Care Act isn’t perfect,” Udall said, “and it will need to be improved as it is implemented.” Udall already wants to push off the open enrollment deadline on the Obamacare health exchanges until the end of May. But Udall’s plan isn’t the only one in the offing. Senator Mary Landrieu (D-LA) has introduced the “Keeping the Affordable Care Act Promise Act,” co-sponsored by Sens. Dianne
“Even if it takes a change to the law, the president should honor the commitment the federal government made to those people and let them keep what they got.” — Bill Clinton, Nov. 12 So the former president asserts that the current president continues to dishonor his “you like your plan, you can keep your plan” pledge. And calls for the Affordable Care Act to be changed, despite furious White House resistance to the very idea. Coming from the dean of the Democratic Party, this one line marked the breaching of the dam. It legitimized the brewing rebellion of panicked
On Thursday, President Obama conducted the “Springtime for Hitler” of press conferences. He came out at noon and proceeded to blather his way through an hour of self-justifications and evasions and apologies and complaints. And as he went on, you could almost see America reacting as the audience in “The Producers” did to the happy-talk number about Adolf romping at his retreat in Berchtesgaden — with gaped-mouth astonishment. First, he said he had not been “informed directly that the Web site would not be working.” What on earth does that mean? Was he somehow informed indirectly? In an affronted tone, the president
The current troubles of the Obama presidency can be read back into its beginnings. Rule by personal charisma has met its proper fate. The spell has been broken, and the magician stands exposed. We need no pollsters to tell us of the loss of faith in Mr. Obama´s policies—and, more significantly, in the man himself. Charisma is like that. Crowds come together and they project their needs onto an imagined redeemer. The redeemer leaves the crowd to its imagination: For as long as the charismatic moment lasts—a year, an era—the redeemer is above and beyond judgment. He glides through crises,
Something is seriously wrong with conservatism. Since Ronald Reagan’s last year in office, Republicans have only twice won a majority of votes cast for president—both times with a George Bush atop the ticket. And neither Bush was a conservative. For 25 years, something has prevented conservatives from winning the White House and prevented the Republicans who do win from governing as conservatives. What could it be? The Tea Party has an answer: RINOs—liberal Republicans in Name Only—have sabotaged the right, most recently in October when they collaborated with Democrats to raise the debt ceiling and end the government shutdown. Once RINOs are
President Obama’s former spiritual advisor Joshua DuBois joined The O’Reilly Factor to talk about his new book, “The President´s Devotional: Daily Readings That Inspired Obama.” He told Bill O’Reilly, “The president’s a committed Christian and his faith is a really important part of his life. Every single morning for the last six years he’s woken up and read these devotionals to try grow closer to God and closer to his neighbors as well.” DuBois recalled going with the president to visit Reverend Billy Graham. “He doesn’t wear this stuff on his sleeve. That’s not the kind guy he is, but he
