WASHINGTON – You can’t safely bomb a chemical weapon storehouse into oblivion, experts say. That’s why they say the United States is probably targeting something other than Syria’s nerve agents. Now, however, there is concern that bombing other sites could accidentally release dangerous chemical weapons that the U.S. military did not know were there because they’ve lost track of some of the suspected nerve agents. Bombing stockpiles of chemical weapons — purposely or accidentally — will likely kill nearby civilians in an accidental nerve agent release, create a long-lasting environmental catastrophe or both, experts said. That’s because under ideal conditions — and
...but we´ll do it anyway because pResident Peace Prize is just itching to toss a few missiles into Syria to turn the heat up yet another notch in the Middle East. Mr Chaos know the Muz-Broz are fueled by hatred and pandmonium. As time draws near, all camels please be seated!
The US absolutely can bomb a chemical weapons site without releasing deadly nerve agents. The AGM-129A air launched cruise missile carrying a W80 variable yield nuclear warhead is fully capable of rendering the site "clean" of chemical contaminants. Sends a powerful message, too - if that is the game being played.
He, who could not figure out how to go through a gate with his opened umbrella, would not put the political future of his own party at risk UNLESS he´s been assured that his plan has NO chance of failing. Obama´s weak leadership is the Demo´s biggest problem as we move toward the 2014 elections. How convenient that the Syrian situation may change that perception. Suddenly he´ll be credited with having enormes huevos when the going got tough. He stared down Assad and made a persuasive case to Congress. Gag. He´s really just paving the way for a big Demo win in 2014.
If Obama´s attack on Syria is as successful as everything else he has done since 2008, he could end up killing 10,000 random Syrians to punish Assad for killing 1400. THAT should restore his credibility.
There is no good solution to this situation. There are too many unknowns. Better to be safe than sorry. If chemical weapons are used again, then let the international community take action. It is time to quit being their muscle. We are tapped out economically, militarily and emotionally. When will the West understand Muslims thrive on chaos and violence? They do not want peace. The real solution to that thinking is not palatable to the West. Therefore, we are left with neverending chaos.
I always wonder at what point are the Dems ready to give this guy up and acknowledge they made a big mistake? The world is mocking their choice of leadership yet they still ´keep a rollin along.´ When is the Peace Prize going to be rescinded? When is the birth certificate going to be refuted? When is the Bengahzi mystery going to be solved? When are the Republicans going to fight for the people?
If the Mulatto Muslim gets the "yes" vote --which he probably will, he will stick the Yes in his pocket, put everything on hold and wait for the next big administration scandal to erupt. When the heat gets turned on, he´ll pull out the Yes and start bombing Syria.
This entire mess that´s going on now is nothing more than a "Look! A squirrel" tactic.
To 100% destroy chemical weapons, they must be destroyed in a controlled environment and as pointed out in the article, under extremely hot temperatures. Remember, these things have been created not only to kill, but to withstand the rigors of combat.
I think that Obozo will only lob some missiles at either empty sites or some other such target. And will proclaim that he has sent a message to Assad. It´s revolting.
Syria is not stone age like Afghanistan was. They are not primitives riding around on donkeys. They have an Air Force , a Navy and ground forces. China and Russia have been their primary military suppliers. Syria shot down a Turkish military jet last summer , mistakenly thought by them to be an Israeli jet. They have the capability of shooting down a US plane. They have advisers from China and Russia in their military installations and what happens when one of them is killed in a US bombing ? In 2010 Russia told the US that they were supplying Syria with P-800 Yakhont cruise missiles. An unprovoked attack ordered by Obama could and no doubt will have devastating consequences.
Sometimes a majority simply means that all the fools are on the same side. We have a majority in our "intelligence" departments saying one thing, and a majority of "intelligence" experts on the other side saying another. Ok which majority is correct.
President Obama keeps claiming that he had no knowledge of the Internal Revenue Service´s abusive muzzling of conservative groups. That line is hard to swallow given that his Treasury and IRS are back at it—this time in broad daylight. In the media blackout of Thanksgiving week, the Treasury Department dumped a new proposal to govern the political activity of 501(c)(4) groups. The administration claims this rule is needed to clarify confusing tax laws. Hardly. The rule is the IRS´s new targeting program—only this time systematic, more effective, and with the force of law. That this rule was meant to crack down on
President Obama isn´t the only Democrat who has had a difficult few weeks. The past month has also been particularly challenging for the woman who has all but declared her 2016 presidential campaign: Hillary Clinton. If this winter is any guide, to win the nomination Mrs. Clinton will have to master her two-step: sticking close to a president still beloved by the Democratic base—as she did this week, flying on Air Force One with Mr. Obama to South Africa for Nelson Mandela´s memorial service—while distancing herself from his unpopular policies. The former secretary of state knows that in order to win
Some Senate Republicans were raising red flags over an obscure procedural change in the just-announced budget deal, saying it could diminish their ability to block some future tax increases. But Senate Democrats, House Republicans and some other Senate Republicans said the concern appears to be unfounded, adding that the language is standard-issue, and leaves procedural safeguards in place. Democrats and several Republicans said GOP senators could still force any tax increase to clear 60-vote thresholds, although the budget deal’s language does remove one such barrier. A bipartisan think tank’s analysis also concluded that the budget deal’s language has been used by both parties
Congress took a step away from the confrontational politics and brinkmanship that has roiled the economy in recent years, as the House on Thursday passed a budget bill designed to avoid a government shutdown next month and relax spending limits in the next two years. The bill passed by a wide bipartisan margin, 332-94. The bill drew a strong bipartisan majority: 169 Republicans and 163 Democrats voted for the measure. Voting in opposition were 62 Republicans and 32 Democrats. Approval of the bill, which is also expected to pass the Senate next week, clears the way for a less-glamorous stage of budgeting
Regulation: That wave fast approaching the U.S. is not the tide coming in. It´s a wall of rules issued by the White House that will hit the economy and private lives with the force of a killer tsunami. The federal regulatory machine is coming not only for power plants, as the president promised while campaigning in 2008. It also has its eye on controlling private property. Earlier this week, the Competitive Enterprise Institute, which has a long history of highlighting Washington´s regulatory excess, said that during the first week of December, "95 new final regulations were published in the Federal Register," which
ObamaCare Fail: An urgent mass email to all Senate staff warns not to trust any confirmation from the D.C. health exchange and they may not have insurance come January. Why aren´t the rest of us being warned? We have chronicled the fact that ObamaCare, the increasingly unaffordable Affordable Care Act, has caused many with pre-existing conditions like stage-four cancer, the very people it was supposed to help, to lose their insurance at a critical point in their lives. For others, the skyrocketing premiums and often five-figure deductibles have made having insurance almost irrelevant. If you can´t afford the premiums or the deductibles,
Representative Paul D. Ryan’s eight terms in Congress have produced much political celebrity and Republican respect but just two laws bearing the Ryan name — a renamed post office and a modified excise tax on arrows like the ones he uses for bow hunting. Then on Tuesday he struck a budget deal with Senator Patty Murray, Democrat of Washington, that affixed a new label to the polished veneer of Mr. Ryan, a Wisconsin Republican: deal maker and, to some, traitor. With a modest, bipartisan blueprint on taxes and spending, Mr. Ryan is taking a risk he has previously shied away from, putting
The gangster state of North Korea became a nuclear power in 2006-2007, despite lots of foreign aid aimed at precluding just such proliferation — help usually not otherwise accorded such a loony dictatorship. Apparently the civilized world rightly suspected that, if nuclear, Pyongyang would either export nuclear material and expertise to other unstable countries or bully its successful but non-nuclear neighbors — or both. The United States has given billions of dollars in foreign aid to Pakistan, whose Islamist gangs have spearheaded radical anti-American terrorism. Since a corrupt Pakistan went nuclear in 1998, it has been able to extort such foreign payouts —
RUSH: Well, we may as well stick with this silly budget stuff, ´cause there are a couple of points to be made about it. But it, too, is just part of the daily script of the daily media narrative that´s coming out of Washington. This government´s gonna run whether they get a budget done or not; everybody knows it. Government isn´t gonna shut down. There isn´t any mood to shut down the government. If it does shut down, there´s not any mood to reform it, not right now, for a whole host of reasons. I was watching CNN during the break.
SEATTLE - Two Seattle veterinarians are pioneering the use of medical marijuana to treat pets. Dr. Sarah Brandon, co-founder of Canna-Pet, says medical cannabis can be used for many ailments plaguing your dog or cat. "Cannibanoids control inflammation to reduce pain from arthritis," she says. "They can help reduce anxiety." Brandon and her colleague Dr. Greg Copas launched Canna-Pet two months ago because citing that traditional pet medicines can have undesirable side effects. For example, Brandon says,"Anti-inflammatories can cause vomiting and Opioids can cause decreased appetite." These are reportedly common arguments to support the use of medical marijuana for humans. However, Brandon
PYONGYANG, North Korea — North Korea on Friday announced the execution of Kim Jong Un´s uncle, calling the leader´s former mentor a traitor who tried to overthrow the state. The announcement came only days after Pyongyang announced through state media that Jang Song Thaek — long considered the country´s No. 2 power — had been removed from all his posts because of allegations of corruption, drug use, gambling, womanizing and leading a "dissolute and depraved life." The state news agency KCNA said a tribunal examined Jang´s crimes, including "attempting to overthrow the state by all sorts of intrigues and despicable methods with
RUSH: Tab in Salt Lake City, great to have you on the program. Hello. CALLER: Yes. Exponential dittos from Salt Lake City, Rush. So glad I got in. RUSH: Thank you very much. CALLER: I wanted to tell you something that has not been advertised in any of the national news in regards to Obamacare, and that is the price increase on my medications. I´m 52 and disabled. I fell 20 feet from a tree. I have no disks between my L3-4, a shattered foot into 62 pieces, a torn meniscus. Anyway, my medications went up from -- this is two months ago
New York — The anchor who might beat Bill O’Reilly gets her eyelash extensions applied one at a time, with tweezers and dabs of glue, about 90 minutes before showtime, right after a motorized gun sprays foundation over her face, neck, shoulders, collarbone and sternum, wiping out a galaxy of light freckles that spreads across her — Let me stop you right there. Photos of the day Uruguay legalizes marijuana, Kiev police pull back from protesters, aging U.S. prison population and more. Tuesday´s Photos of the day Would you write this way about a man? About O’Reilly himself? At least that’s what Megyn Kelly might ask at
In August 2013 I became very sick with what I thought was a cold. After a few days I lost vision in my left eye and I checked into the hospital. I soon found out that what I thought was a summer cold was actually Strep bacteria poisoning my blood stream. The bacteria blinded my left eye, ate a hole through my heart, caused five strokes on both sides of my brain and forced the removal of my prosthetic left knee. Dr. Lee was the surgeon assigned to perform open heart surgery. What was originally scheduled to last four hours ended
The health director who approved the release of President Obama’s birth certificate has died in a plane crash, Hawaiian officials said Thursday. Loretta Fuddy died after the Cessna Grand Caravan aircraft she was travelling on went down shortly after leaving Kalaupapa Airport at around 3:15 p.m. local time (10:15 a.m. ET) on Wednesday. The other eight people on board were rescued, Richard Schuman, president of Makani Kai Air, told NBC News early Thursday, adding that that there was no indication as to why the plane had crashed. Fuddy hit the headlines two years ago when she approved a waiver request allowing Obama to
Fox News host Megyn Kelly has made herself the center of a racial controversy by declaring that Jesus Christ and Santa Claus are white. On Wednesday night, Kelly was responding to an article by Slate writer Aisha Harris, who wrote an article entitled “ Santa Claus Should Not Be a White Man Anymore .” The popular news host told viewers of “The Kelly File,” her hit FNC program, “When I saw this headline, I kinda laughed and I said, ‘Oh, this is ridiculous. Yet another person claiming it´s racist to have a white Santa.’ And by the way, for all you kids
Views of the tea party are at all-time lows in a new poll, as primary challenges to establishment Republicans continue to heat up Washington. Just 30 percent of Americans view the tea party favorably in a new Gallup poll released Wednesday, the movement’s lowest point since Gallup began polling about it during its rise in 2010. Also in a first, a majority of Americans had an unfavorable view of the tea party, at 51 percent. Similar numbers of respondents described themselves as proponents or opponents of the tea party: Twenty-two percent identified themselves as tea party supporters, while 24 percent said they
THE Internet has been abuzz over the spectacle of President Obama and the prime ministers of Britain and Denmark snapping a photo of themselves — a “selfie,” to use the mot du jour — with a smartphone at the memorial service for Nelson Mandela in South Africa on Tuesday. Leaving aside whether it was appropriate, the moment captured the democratization of image making that is a hallmark of our gadget-filled, technologically rich era. Manifestly undemocratic, in contrast, is the way Mr. Obama’s administration — in hypocritical defiance of the principles of openness and transparency he campaigned on — has systematically tried
If you go down on the ice today you´re sure of a big surprise - a rare glimpse of 20 polar bears gorging on a bloody midnight feast. These photographs show a rare cluster of males, females and cubs all dining out on the remains of a whale carcass. They spent a night and a day stripping every last morsel from the mammoth sea creature. Usually Polar bears are solitary and would never tolerate being so close to each other. But with food in plentiful supply and bellies dragging on the floor they seem too lethargic to fight.Wildlife photographer Michal
WASHINGTON – It’s not exactly a ringing endorsement of the budget deal.“Embrace the suck,” House minority leader Rep. Nancy Pelosi told fellow Democrats Thursday morning, a source told Politico.“We need to get this off the table so we can go forward,” she added. It’s a way of telling her colleagues the budget deal negotiated with Republicans is the best they can get. Democrats are fuming that the bipartisan budget deal doesn’t extend unemployment benefits for more than a million Americans. One of Pelosi’s top lieutenants, Rep. Chris Van Hollen, the top Democrat on the House Budget Committee, said Thursday it
Columnist Charles Krauthammer attacked new Obamacare rules unveiled by HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius in a late Thursday conference call, saying the Obama administration is “approach[ing] banana republic lawlessness” by issuing the decrees. Krauthammer spoke with Fox News’ Bret Baier on a panel with Juan Williams and Judge Andrew Napolitano, as the three reacted to Sebelius’ new directives for insurance companies. “This is exactly a reaction to a deep understanding among Democrats that [Obamacare] is a train wreck,” he said. “And it’s a panic reaction. As the judge said, this is utterly lawless. This now approaches banana republic lawlessness.
The Sexiest Man Alive is being enlisted to spice up Obamacare. Pop singer Adam Levine, who won the designation from People magazine last month, is among the celebrities who’ll be promoting enrollment in online health insurance exchanges as part of a social media campaign kicking off tomorrow. With enrollment totals behind administration projections after the botched start-up of the federal exchange, 17 state exchanges joined by an advocacy group are drawing on Obama administration allies in entertainment and sports to promote sign-ups, using social media such as Facebook and Twitter. Reprising a tactic President Barack Obama successfully employed in his 2012 re-election, organizers
Mike Huckabee today ended his daily radio show heard on 200 stations across the nation, the first obvious sign that he is considering another presidential bid in what is shaping up to be a jammed 2016 GOP primary. He has hosted the “Mike Huckabee Show” on Cumulus Media since April 2012, but said that it takes up to nine hours a day to prepare. “As for the new endeavors, at this time, it would best for me to say, ?Stay tuned!´" he wrote on his Facebook page. Supporters won´t have to wait long. On Friday, he is participating in a “Pastors and
A South African government minister has said that "a mistake happened" in the hiring of a sign language interpreter accused of gesticulating nonsense during the Nelson Mandela memorial service. Hendrietta Bogopane-Zulu said that officials have tried to track down the company that provided Thamsanqa Jantjie but that the owners "have vanished into thin air". Earlier on Thursday Jantjie claimed he is qualified but was hallucinating and hearing voices and said he is receiving treatment for schizophrenia. Millions of TV viewers saw Jantjie interpreting speeches by Barack Obama and other global leaders at the FNB stadium in Johannesburg. His gestures baffled and angered deaf
