Washington — Paul Ryan is under pressure to drop his support for revising U.S. immigration laws: His adversaries are running television attack ads against him and warning of a primary challenge to the Wisconsin Republican congressman. Ryan is risking a "showdown with the tea party," said Bob Dane, an opposition leader, in reference to the anti-tax movement that backs primary challenges to some incumbents. The effort to make him switch his position isn´t working: Ryan says he is committed to passing a law to allow 11 million undocumented immigrants to eventually
Comments: Perhaps the most disappointed I have ever been in a politician. He claims his support is rooted in his faith and the German and Irish immigrants in Wisconsin. Well in cause you weren´t aware of it, I´m sure the huge majority of said immigrants entered the country LEGALLY just like my grandparents did from Italy. And by the way, they had sons fighting and dying in WW2 before they were naturalized.
Please take the time to post properly as shown. LCom Staff.
He is a religiously based "social justice" guy. His economic plan will never pass Congress and he has been scaring off potential new GOP voters with that plan. The Republicans should knock him out via the primary process next year and replace him with a true conservative.
That should have been "Well in case" I also forgot to add that the immigrants that came to this country in the first half of the 20th century were never offered free healthcare and free college tuition.
Ryan can´t very well change. He´s already cashed the checks from the corporatists behind this travesty. Hopefully his state voters will retire him so he can live in the style to which he has become accustomed in the beltway. Unless his religion is money, I would say religion has little to do with this, except as a cover.
Maybe a person more familiar with voting laws can help me out here. My question is: Are there certain categories of legal resident foreigners eligible to vote in US elections? For example: Green card holders, foreign students attending US colleges, etc. If so, would the current crop of illegal immigrants, be eligible to vote in US or state elections should the amnesty version of this immigration overhaul bill be made into law?
Grownup here #10. Exactly who was it who claimed all illegals were "Mexican"? Why I believe that was you.
Without securing the border we have no way of knowing who is here legally or illegally. I noticed that you left border security out of your lecture. This indicates to me that you are a troll, and not proposing a serious solution.
Your idea of a fine is swell, but you are the first person I have heard mention such a mechanism, so I´d imagine you´d grant us that isn´t likely to happen. The Dems are in favor of immediate access to benefits, you know, so folks can get back on there feet /s...
Lastly, at what point did America decide, when faced with a difficult problem, that capitulation was the best solution? I ask because that is what you just presented as a fix.
Thanks, but I´ll pass. Ryan is done on a national level. It is entirely possible the entire party will follow him off the cliff, but I´m not joining them.
#10 did exactly what the left and race baiters want.... They want us to make this a Mexican issue, not an illegal alien issue.
Whenever I have a discussion about the border and illegal aliens, I always make sure I point out there are illegals from almost every nation on Earth. I want to stop illegal border crossing.... period.
Whenever you allow them to trap you in the corner with it being Mexican illegal aliens, they are baiting to to be easily perceived as a racist..... and this is an intentional strategy.
If you are a Republican and vote for anything like the liberal Democrat designed amnesty that passed the USA you are committing long-term political suicide.
Nobody knows how many illegal aliens are actually in the USA, but this amnesty bill would legalize just about every one of them. There could easily be 20 million.
When you grant amnesty to an illegal alien he or she will get to bring his or her immediate foreign family members here. That could easily amount to another 20 million people.
The liberal Democrats have designed their amnesty bill with all sorts of loopholes to move just about every one of those legalized aliens, and their foreign family members, through a special "path to citizenship" that will give them and their foreign family members eventual US voting rights in the years ahead.
Since the vast majority of illegal aliens are poor and generally uneducated people they will almost all become Democrat voters. Each one of those legalized aliens would then be able to cancel out one Republican vote. Once the Democrats pick up those millions of new foreign born voters, the Republicans will never again be able to win national elections.
I don´t know how #10 thinks they can/will pay a $3,000-$5,000 penalty when (a) most times they are earning minimum wages; (b) they are prolly sending most of their money back to where they came from; (c) they would expect taxpayers to provide $ for that in addition to all their other freebies.
#10, I could accept just about everything in that immigration bill except the pathway to citizenship. You can change the language all you want, but it is in fact amnesty. Pres. Reagan tried it and lived to regret it. There should be no reward for people who are in this country illegally. Any senator or representative who votes for this thing is dead to me.
#10, what do you say to Democrats who immediately after this bill passes say, "The legal illegals are now disinfranchised future voters. They will be citizens in 15 years but they cannot vote in where that future takes them."?
And, #17 the plan is to enforce the laws on the books. If you want something more, how about we implement Country-wide e-verify? Then, license suspensions for businesses that hire illegals. Want more? How about prison time for illegals who get money from the IRS using false documents, like the 24000 who used the same address in Atlanta to get $48 million in refunds in one year. Want more? I´ll give you more when you reply.?
CHINA - a 38-year-old man leaped to his death after an argument with his girlfriend who insisted they continue shopping. (snip) Eyewitnesses said Hsiao could be heard telling his girlfriend that they already had more bags than they could carry, but she insisted on hitting one more store where there was a sale on shoes. An eyewitness said: "He told her she already had enough shoes, more shoes that she could wear in a lifetime, and it was pointless buying any more. She started shouting at him, accusing him of being a skinflint, and of spoiling Christmas. It was a really heated argument."
A cancer patient, who publicly discussed the cancellation of his insurance under ObamaCare, now says he has been informed by the Internal Revenue Service that he is going to be audited. Bill Elliot appeared on Fox News on November 7th to discuss the cancellation of his insurance. He claims he was told that his cancer was considered “beyond the catastrophic previous condition” and his plan was being canceled because of ObamaCare regulations. Elliot, who has Stage 4 cancer, informed viewers he wasn’t going to pay the $1,500 a month for the new plan being offered, preferring not to burden his
A pioneering study has shown for the first time that the brains of men and women are wired up differently which could explain some of the stereotypical differences in male and female behaviour, scientists have said. Researchers found that many of the connections in a typical male brain run between the front and the back of the same side of the brain, whereas in women the connections are more likely to run from side to side between the left and right hemispheres of the brain. This difference in the way the nerve connections in the brain are “hardwired” occurs during
CNN host wondered out loud on his show this evening whether the physically unfit Chris Christie could follow the "perfect physical specimen" Barack Obama into the White House: "After the perfect Barack Obama, who´s a perfect physical specimen to many people´s eyes, does it matter?" Morgan asked his guest. "Or is actually somebody very different, someone who´s much more of a regular kind of guy who likes cheeseburgers and beer, but appears to be a straight talker, somebody perhaps more of a straight talker than it appears Barack Obama turned out to be?"
Shortly before receiving the medal of freedom from President Obama, Oprah Winfrey gave an interview to the BBC in which she seemed to chalk up much of the opposition to the president to racism: "I think there's a level of disrespect for the office that occurs ... because he's African American," she said. Her claim reminded me of the times when, as a child of the '70s, my father would ask an odd question about my friends, "What is he?" "Huh?" I'd ask. "You know, what is he — Italian? German? Lebanese? What is he?" my father replied. Colorblind eyes - I had no idea what my friends' ethnic origins were.
While just eight days of legislative business remain before lawmakers are expected to leave Washington for the winter holidays, House Speaker John Boehner maintained that immigration reform still has a spot in his majority’s agenda next year, but he does not intend to move on comprehensive legislation. (Snip)“Is immigration reform dead? Absolutely not,” Boehner, R-Ohio, told reporters during a news conference at the Capitol Thursday. “I believe that Congress needs to deal with this issue. Our committees are continuing to do their work. There are a lot of private conversations that are underway to try to figure out, how do
Phoebe Connolly, who was punched in the face and laughed at by a group of teenagers playing the random and sometimes fatal “Knockout” game in my own obscenely terrible neighborhood of Columbia Heights in Washington, D.C., appeared with Greta (snip)“I ultimately, I’ve moved past it and I really have no hard feelings about what has happened. And I just see it as another reason why we need to better support our youth with activities and youth programs, which is actually what I do for work, and it’s great to see teenagers do incredible things when they’re supported and empowered,” “
WASHINGTON — Many doctors are disturbed that they’ll be paid less – often a lot less – to care for the millions of patients who are projected to buy coverage through the health law’s new insurance marketplaces. Some have complained to medical associations – including those in Texas, California, Georgia, Connecticut and New York – saying the discounted rates could lead to a two-tiered system in which fewer doctors participate, perhaps making it harder for consumers to get the care they need. “As it is, there is a shortage of primary care physicians in the country, and they don’t have
An official with the nonprofit Obamacare enrollment group Enroll America conspired to give people’s personal information to what he thought was a political action committee, according to James O’Keefe’s latest video, provided to The Daily Caller. Enroll America, which Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius admitted to fundraising for, is a “nonpartisan” 501(c)(3) nonprofit that critics accuse of working as an unofficial Obamacare navigator across the country. Enroll America’s Texas state communications lead Christopher Tarango conspired to provide a list of potential Obamacare enrollees,
Secretary of State John Kerry announced Wednesday that he and Afghan President Hamid Karzai have reached an agreement on a critical security pact governing the presence of U.S. troops in Afghanistan beyond 2014. The document will be presented to a meeting of (snip) Kerry, though, denied that there was any sort of "apology" in the works, following reports on Tuesday that as part of the deal, President Obama would send a letter to the Afghan people acknowledging "mistakes." Kerry did not deny the possibility of a letter, but rejected the idea that any part of the deal would constitute an
If he thought his apology for his fecal fantasies about Sarah Palin was going to be the end of $#!+gate, he just dung get it. David Bauder, AP: MSNBC was not saying Tuesday whether disciplinary action is planned against show host Martin Bashir, who has apologized for “deeply offensive” comments he made about Sarah Palin…An MSNBC spokeswoman did not immediately respond to questions Tuesday about whether any further action was being contemplated against Bashir. The story here isn’t that our moral, ethical, and intellectual betters at MSNBC are stonewalling. Of course they are. The story is that they’re being forced
Representative Jan Schakowsky (D., Ill.) announced she will fast for a day as part of a push for amnesty. She will join an effort by activists on the National Mall who began fasting over a week ago. “I’m so inspired by the fasters and … how they’re willing to put their bodies on the lines, their health on the line to raise attention to an issue that is really tearing at the fabric of our country,” she said. Schakowsky, who has planned her fast for Thursday, encouraged her colleagues to join her in her day-long fast. Schakowsky, who has planned
The question all week long was this: Who are you going to believe, an illegal alien or the president of the United States of America? Obviously, if it’s a president who once went by an alias, Barry Soetoro, you go with Uncle Omar, 100 percent, no questions asked. And so it was that the White House finally admitted to another, uh, misstatement — despite previous denials, Barack/Barry did sleep on his beloved Uncle Omar’s couch in Cambridge when he first moved here to attend Harvard Law School (speaking of which, we’re still waiting to see the president’s grades and his LSAT scores). But the
How do you get your arms around the catastrophe known as Obamacare? Is it even possible? At this point, I’m not sure it is. The list of individual disasters which threaten to ruin one-sixth of the U.S. economy and what has been, up until now, the best healthcare system in the world is exhaustive, and exhausting. The examples I will identify here barely scratch the surface. First but by no means foremost, we have the supposedly new and improved HealthCare.gov. Except it’s not, even the visible part. Stories still abound of people still failing to get in or to get through the enrollment
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has announced a new five-year strategic plan to improve safety for elderly drivers and passengers. Although they are statistically among the safest on the road, the number of older drivers is increasing dramatically — and with it, that group´s numbers of injuries and deaths. Since 2003, the population of older adults, defined as age 65 and older, has increased by 20% and the number of licensed older drivers increased by 21% to 35 million in 2012, according to NHTSA. Last year, NHTSA reported that 5,560 people older than 65 died and 214,000 were injured
A veteran Washington adviser who has worked for four Presidents on both sides of the political aisle said that the stunning Government Accountability Report report that found President Barack Obama has not had a one-on-one meeting with Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius since the passage of Obamacare over three years ago is an indictment of the entire White House operation and shows that the Obama administration has bordered on "malfeasance." "I have no doubt the White House is right, that Secretary Sebelius was in several group meetings with the president about health care," Gergen caveated, "but the whole
President Barack Obama’s Facebook page on Saturday posted a message honoring the dead from Pearl Harbor—accompanied by a picture of Obama descending the stairs next to the Pearl Harbor Memorial. The picture barely fits the name of the Arizona Memorial so it can frame Obama in the foreground. The post´s statement reads: Today, with solemn pride and reverence, let us remember those who fought and died at Pearl Harbor, acknowledge everyone who carried their legacy forward, and reaffirm our commitment to upholding the ideals for which they served. President Obama The Obama Administration´s current shipbuilding plan shrinks the size of
Barack Obama did not tell the whole story this autumn when he tried to make the case that Bashar al-Assad was responsible for the chemical weapons attack near Damascus on 21 August. In some instances, he omitted important intelligence, and in others he presented assumptions as facts. Most significant, he failed to acknowledge something known to the US intelligence community: that the Syrian army is not the only party in the country’s civil war with access to sarin, the nerve agent that a UN study concluded – without assessing responsibility – had been used in the rocket attack. In the months before the attack,
Dr. Ezekiel Emanuel, the hapless, goalpost-shifting so-called "architect" of Obamacare, told Fox News´ Chris Wallace on Fox News Sunday that President Barack Obama´s promise "if you like your doctor, you can keep your doctor" was absolutely true--with one important caveat: if you like your doctor, "you can pay for it." Wallace grilled Dr. Emanuel, challenging his false claims that California´s enrollment was keeping pace with the percentage of the young population necessary to keep the system afloat, and pointing out that the president´s promise on doctors would collapse once people lost their insurance or their
Just how much do many Hollywood liberals hate conservatives? In an interview with Playboy, Ben Affleck said, "When I watch a guy [on film] I know is a big Republican, part of me thinks, I probably wouldn’t like this person if I met him": PLAYBOY: You developed a political profile campaigning for presidential candidates Al Gore, John Kerry and Barack Obama. How did that come about? AFFLECK: I grew up in a house with a mother who was a teacher and a Freedom Rider—very left-wing Democrats living in a heterogeneous working-class neighborhood. I picked up a lot of those values there, and I
The U.S. isn´t called "America the Beautiful" for nothing. Each year, millions of tourists come from home and abroad to see the country´s majestic landscape and iconic sites, from the Grand Canyon to the Statue of Liberty. But there are also cool, quirky attractions, like Vermont´s Ben & Jerry´s Factory and Tennessee´s Graceland, the former home of Rock and Roll King Elvis Presley. From California to New York and everywhere in between, the country is chock-full of incredible attractions that keep luring in visitors. Here are the best tourist attractions in every state.
MSNBC host Melissa Harris-Perry opened her program over the weekend with a commentary about the Affordable Care Act’s colloquial moniker: “Obamacare.” She said that the word was originally created as a “derogatory term,” designed by white men as a way to delegitimize President Barack Obama and his achievement. However, she said that the term will soon be synonymous with all of Obama’s accomplishments and she urged her audience to use the term with pride. “I want to talk today about a controversial word. It’s a word that has been with us for years, and like it or not, it’s indelibly
Call me Grinch, call me Scrooge. Call me Lord Voldemort of the Yuletide. None could be worse than sending me a holiday card with glossy photographs of your lovely, smiling family. My wife, Emily, and I place your cards like trophies on our shelves, continuing an old-school practice that began about 175 years ago as a way of maintaining relationships as families and friends moved far and wide. Today’s cards may appear more personalized — with photos of spouses, kids and pets, and distribution lists much smaller than a sprawling collection of Facebook friends. But when I flip over the photo
Chris Matthews is crazy. Nevertheless, when left-wingers talk openly with one another, their craziness can be revealing. That is the case, I think, with this remarkable MSNBC clip. Matthews, fresh from his kneepad interview with President Obama, praises what he terms a uniquely brilliant insight by Al Sharpton: South Africa’s white politicians of the apartheid era were more patriotic than today’s Republicans: I haven’t heard anything as smart as what I heard Reverend Sharpton say a moment go in five years. The difference between the way F.W. de Klerk handled the need for change and the election – democratic election
