Obama set to speak on Syria at White House
Associated Press, by Staff

Original Article

Posted By:JoniTx, 8/31/2013 12:35:10 PM

WASHINGTON — The White House says President Barack Obama is getting ready to speak about Syria from the White House. Obama has been considering a limited military strike against Syria, but he said Friday that he hadn´t yet made a decision. The strike would be in response to a chemical weapons attack the U.S. says Syrian President Bashar Assad´s government carried out against Syrians. The U.S. says more than 1,400 Syrians were killed in that attack last week. The White House is also briefing senators Saturday about Syria. Obama´s statement is set for 1:15 p.m.

Interesting timing...either because it´s 1 hour after sunset in Damascus and commencement of night-time bombardment, or because it´s just prior to the broadcast of the 2nd round of the FedEx Playoffs...which one is Zero most concerned about watching?

FTA: briefing senators
What about the whole congress and not just hand pick members who will agree with you.

I am afraid obama will get more military members killed to puff himself up while also helping the terrorists gain power. He is upset that he lost Egypt for the muslim brotherhood and hopes to give them Syria instead.

Both sides in Syria are filled with savages.

Why should we take sides?

If the Nazis and the Japanese had attacked each other in 1944... would we have intervened?

Obama just wants his buddies in al Qaeda to win.

If he hasn´t gotten an official authorization from Congress, then any ´strikes´ are illegal and the military should not be required to go through with his orders.

Messy I know, but the illegality of this administration has to be stopped sometime. To pull this just to make himself look good in front of Putin next week is so irresponsible and petty. But that is Obama to a ´T´.

Vanity speech or panic--I ain´t watching his blather. Painted himself in a corner but unfortunately others will die for it not the democrat Hawks (and, yes, I know they prefer the word "democratic" but they are not, they are social democrat power brokers)

It about democrat power folks and the narcissistic prez doesn´t care who dies.

Wonder where "we came, we saw, he died" Clinton stands on this one. Hiding in a closet until the outcome is apparent?

Politicians...But we need them since most voters are lo fos. Some even pride themselves in being nonpartisan. LOL. Like they could "know" the person they chose. Take the Nobel Peace Prize folks and the middle voters or stay at homes that gave this man a mandate.

National Unity on this? Har de har har GWB bashers and denigrators as you go after Syria for using Saddam´s WMDs. Will that discovery ever make the US headlines when/if it occurs? What do we mushrooms think.

Folks... the only polls he cares about are amongst the Islamists. By finally helping them invade Syria AND getting Israel bombed... he will be an Islamic Hero.

He shouldn´t require just the "approval" of congress. He needs a declaration of war from congress, according to the Constitution. It isn´t "his" military or even congress´s military. It´s our country´s military, and it doesn´t exist to launch attacks and kill people purely on the whims of one or more individuals who happen to hold some political office. It is for the defense of the country and its use has come to be taken much too lightly.

Democratic Sen. Mary Landrieu is facing criticism after she reenacted a Senate hearing for a campaign ad -- while also fixing a flub from her original remarks. Landrieu’s ad, titled “Will Not Rest,” appears at first glance to feature footage of the senator passionately arguing for increased oil and gas revenue sharing during a Hill hearing. Landrieu’s campaign described the ad in a press release as highlighting the Louisiana senator´s “efforts to stand up to the administration in order to fight for Louisiana, and protect and strengthen our energy industry that supports 300,000 high-paying jobs.” The ad features various clips of

Texas Sen. Ted Cruz adeptly sidestepped questions about how he´d fare among conservative Republicans in a South Carolina presidential primary. But he did say another Democrat in the White House would spell doom and gloom. "Eight more years of this, I don´t know it´s something this country comes back from," he said.Cruz, widely seen as the conservative face of last year´s government shutdown over funding what Republicans call "Obamacare," spent Tax Day talking to free enterprise advocates at The Citadel. House Democrats are rolling out a new strategy to target 30 House Republicans on immigration reform during the two-week congressional recess, marking a last-ditch effort to force GOP action on a legislative overhaul. Scott Walker has a 16 point lead (56-40) among likely voters in his race for governor, according to a poll from Wisconsin Public Radio/St. Norbert’s. Among registered voters, his lead is essentially the same (55-40). The survey was conducted between March 24 and April 3. A Marquette University survey conducted between March 20-23 also showed Walker with a nice, though smaller, lead. In that poll, Walker outdistanced Democrat Mary Burke 48-41. Revealingly, Walker fares well in an electorate that does not seem particularly conservative and that, if anything, appears to be slightly to the left of American voters in general.

Although the Civil Rights Act, the landmark legislation which just reached its 50th anniversary, made great strides in desegregating the economy, economic discrimination is still widespread, and anti-discrimination legislation alone can never rectify the economic damage inflicted upon blacks by slavery and our Jim Crow apartheid regime. The Civil Rights Act was a mild reform, all things considered, but one conservatives fought with vigor and one many conservatives are still bitter about to this day. When the Civil Rights Act passed in 1964, the primary purpose was to root out discrimination in public accommodations (like hotels and movie theaters)
