WASHINGTON — The White House says President Barack Obama is getting ready to speak about Syria from the White House. Obama has been considering a limited military strike against Syria, but he said Friday that he hadn´t yet made a decision. The strike would be in response to a chemical weapons attack the U.S. says Syrian President Bashar Assad´s government carried out against Syrians. The U.S. says more than 1,400 Syrians were killed in that attack last week. The White House is also briefing senators Saturday about Syria. Obama´s statement is set for 1:15 p.m.
Interesting timing...either because it´s 1 hour after sunset in Damascus and commencement of night-time bombardment, or because it´s just prior to the broadcast of the 2nd round of the FedEx Playoffs...which one is Zero most concerned about watching?
FTA: briefing senators What about the whole congress and not just hand pick members who will agree with you.
I am afraid obama will get more military members killed to puff himself up while also helping the terrorists gain power. He is upset that he lost Egypt for the muslim brotherhood and hopes to give them Syria instead.
I notice that he is giving this address on a Saturday afternoon on a 3 day weekend and the start of college football. He is assured that no one will be watching so like most corrupt people he must do things that won´t be seen.
If he hasn´t gotten an official authorization from Congress, then any ´strikes´ are illegal and the military should not be required to go through with his orders.
Messy I know, but the illegality of this administration has to be stopped sometime. To pull this just to make himself look good in front of Putin next week is so irresponsible and petty. But that is Obama to a ´T´.
Vanity speech or panic--I ain´t watching his blather. Painted himself in a corner but unfortunately others will die for it not the democrat Hawks (and, yes, I know they prefer the word "democratic" but they are not, they are social democrat power brokers)
It about democrat power folks and the narcissistic prez doesn´t care who dies.
Wonder where "we came, we saw, he died" Clinton stands on this one. Hiding in a closet until the outcome is apparent?
Politicians...But we need them since most voters are lo fos. Some even pride themselves in being nonpartisan. LOL. Like they could "know" the person they chose. Take the Nobel Peace Prize folks and the middle voters or stay at homes that gave this man a mandate.
National Unity on this? Har de har har GWB bashers and denigrators as you go after Syria for using Saddam´s WMDs. Will that discovery ever make the US headlines when/if it occurs? What do we mushrooms think.
Whatever his "decision" is it was made by someone else. He doesn´t have a clue. All he knows is that this dust up is interrupting his golf game. I will not listen. The second I see his face or hear his voice I´m turning on a football game that I have no interest in.
I´ll bet he uses the UN´s need for "time to analyze the evidence" as a cover for not doing anything. His regime surely realizes that this whole impotent saber rattling thing is about to blow up, and they´re looking for a face-saving excuse to back off.
He shouldn´t require just the "approval" of congress. He needs a declaration of war from congress, according to the Constitution. It isn´t "his" military or even congress´s military. It´s our country´s military, and it doesn´t exist to launch attacks and kill people purely on the whims of one or more individuals who happen to hold some political office. It is for the defense of the country and its use has come to be taken much too lightly.
Restaurant chain Cracker Barrel posted Friday night on its Facebook page that it would no longer carry some Duck Dynasty merchandise after Phil Robertson, of the "Duck Commander" company and family, was suspended from the show. The statement reads: Cracker Barrel’s mission is Pleasing People. We operate within the ideals of fairness, mutual respect and equal treatment of all people. These ideals are the core of our corporate culture. We continue to offer Duck Commander products in our stores. We removed selected products which we were concerned might offend some of our guests while we evaluate the situation.
Four men have been arrested over the death of a lawyer shot in front of his wife during a carjacking outside a New Jersey mall last week, authorities said on Saturday. The suspects in the fatal carjacking on Sunday last week, in which Dustin Friedland was killed at The Mall, Short Hills, were arrested in a series of raids overnight. Three of the men were arrested in their homes in New Jersey and the fourth was arrested in a Pennsylvania hotel, between 9pm on Friday and 3am Saturday. The suspects were identified as Hanif Thompson, 29, Karif Ford, 31, Basim
Santa Claus is going to be busy in the Turner home this year... as there are four extra names on his ´good´ list. Nine-month-old 70million-to-one quads James, Joshua, Lauren and Emily will be celebrating their first Christmas. The two sets of identical twins will be at the centre of the special, if not a bit chaotic, festive period for proud parents Sharon and Julian Turner. The quads are thriving and full of smiles despite their early births at just 29 weeks in March this year and are set to have a magical Christmas surrounded by the family who wanted them
PRINCETON, N.J. -In a scientific complex on 88 bucolic acres near here, some astonishingly talented people are advancing a decades-long project to create a sun on Earth. When — not if; when — decades hence they and collaborators around the world succeed, their achievement will be more transformative of human life than any prior scientific achievement. The Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory’s (PPPL) focus — magnetic fusion research — began at the university in 1951. It was grounded in the earlier work of a European scientist then living in Princeton. Einstein’s theory that mass could be converted into energy had been
WASHINGTON - The man who attempted to assassinate President Ronald Reagan will get to spend more time outside a mental hospital where he has been confined for most of the past three decades, a judge ruled Friday. John Hinckley will be allowed to visit his mother´s home in Williamsburg, Va., for up to 17 days at a time. Hinckley has been allowed to spend increasing amounts of time at his mother´s house in recent years, but previous visits were capped at 10 days. Hinckley must make at least eight successful 17-day visits away from the hospital before any requests to
HONOLULU- Barack Obama and family landed in Honolulu late Friday to kick off a two-week Hawaiian vacation, what the U.S. president earlier described as a chance for "sleep and sun" after a bruising year in Washington. Obama, with wife Michelle and daughters Malia and Sasha, along with Marian Robinson, Mrs. Obama´s mother, emerged from Air Force One in casual garb after a 9 1/2 hour flight. First dogs Bo and Sunny were also present. The Obamas were welcomed by dignitaries including Admiral Samuel Locklear, Commander of the U.S. Pacific Command, and Governor of Hawaii Neil Abercrombie. The first couple briefly
WASHINGTON — Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid was released from the hospital Friday evening after being treated for what his office described as exhaustion. Reid, 74, “was not feeling well” early Friday and “as a precaution decided to go to the hospital,” his office said in a statement. “Tests have been conducted and everything is normal. The doctors diagnosed him as exhausted, not anything more serious, and have cleared him to go back to work.” Because of his hospitalization, Reid missed the Senate’s final session for the year. Reid, who recently said he plans to seek another six-year term in 2016,
President Obama brushed off Politifact´s “Lie of the Year” designation Friday afternoon, insisting that “my intentions have been clear throughout” the healthcare reform process. The nonpartisan Politifact on Dec. 12 gave Obama its annual “Lie of the Year” award for his promise that if people liked their healthcare plans, they could keep them. That assurance proved false this year, as millions of people received cancellation notices from their healthcare providers amid the rollout of the ObamaCare exchanges. The president linked the canceled plans to the broader struggles with the law´s rollout, and said his administration would work to improve the
During the past 12 months, NewsBusters has chronicled the downward fall of the liberal cable television network known as MSNBC. Not only has the channel dropped by double digits in prime-time and daily ratings, but the network also lost two of its most prominent hosts in very public, very embarrassing ways. As a result, L. A. Ross of thewrap.com noted in an article that the people in the “Lean Forward” channel "might rather forget 2013," which he noted is when MSNBC will end the year in third place among the cable news networks in total day viewers, due to a loss
Stand-up comedy pioneer, film and television star, and best-selling author Steve Harvey scored a big interview with President Obama last week, sitting down for a “man-on-man” interview with the leader of the free world, and crashing a White House tour for good measure. That huge interview for Harvey, though, aired in most markets, today, at the same time President Obama was delivering his end-of-year press conference, a case of Grand Theft Thunder, if ever there was one. As promised, the interview steered largely clear of politics, save a brief portion on the progress with Healthcare.gov, and focused mainly on personal
The political world’s odd couple — conservative Mary Matalin and liberal James Carville — have talked plenty about politics but their latest book — “Love & War: Twenty Years, Three Presidents, Two Daughters and One Louisiana Home” — focuses on how they resolve their differences at home, from moving to New Orleans to sex to cats to Carville’s frustrating ADHD. “I knew Mary was nuts a long time ago,” Carville writes. “But I loved her in spite of it — and probably because of it.” Later he writes, “I’d rather stay happily married than pick a fight with my wife
West Monroe, Louisiana -As the future of their show lies in doubt, the Duck Dynasty clan are still making millions thanks to their megabucks Walmart merchandising deal, MailOnline can today reveal. The Robertson family has a merchandise empire that is estimated by Forbes to be worth about $400million - and their deal with Walmart makes up around half of this. And today, as Walmart refused to comment on the future of their relationship with the TV family, just one glimpse at the chainstore´s website shows fans are flocking to buy Duck Dynasty merchandise amid the furor over patriach Phil Robertson´s homophobic
For a few hours, it looked like Americans would quietly accept the suspension of popular “Duck Dynasty” star Phil Robertson for his unfiltered opinions about sin, sex, gays and blacks in a magazine interview. But then, as if on cue, hundreds of thousands of fans of the openly Christian, duck-hunting businessman took to social networks and started their backlash. As of Thursday night, more than 1.1 million people “liked” the “Stand With Phil Robertson” Facebook page, while about the same number had clicked their support for another Facebook page called “Boycott A&E Until Phil Robertson Is Put Back On Duck
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid was hospitalized early Friday morning as a “precaution” after feeling ill, a spokesman said, adding that doctors concluded "everything is normal" after testing. “Early this morning, Senator Reid was not feeling well and as a precaution decided to go to the hospital. Tests have been conducted and everything is normal. He is alert, resting and feeling better,” spokesman Adam Jentleson said in a statement. "Doctors have asked that he remain in the hospital for observation so he will not be working today." The Senate is set to finish its business for the year on Friday.
The suspension of Phil Robertson from A&E’s Duck Dynasty is outrageous in a nation that values freedom, according to social critic and openly gay, dissident feminist Camille Paglia. “I speak with authority here, because I was openly gay before the ‘Stonewall rebellion,’ when it cost you something to be so. And I personally feel as a libertarian that people have the right to free thought and free speech,” Paglia, a professor at the University of the Arts in Philadelphia, said on Laura Ingraham’s radio show Thursday. “In a democratic country, people have the right to be homophobic as well as they have
Phil Robertson disrespected gay employees at A&E ... and THAT´S why he was sacked from "Duck Dynasty" ... sources connected with the network tell TMZ. We´re told A&E CEO Nancy Dubuc felt she could not in good conscience ask gay employees to kill themselves for a show when he disrespected them by calling them sinners. Our sources say ... gay employees involved in the production -- and there are a number of them -- were outraged by Phil´s comments to GQ and wanted Dubuc to give him the ax. We´re told Dubuc felt this way ... If Phil had made
The Obama administration Thursday night significantly relaxed the rules of the health-care law for millions of consumers whose individual insurance policies have been canceled, saying they could buy bare-bones health plans or entirely avoid the requirement that most Americans have health insurance. The surprise announcement, four days before the Dec. 23 deadline for people to choose coverage that begins on Jan. 1, triggered an immediate backlash from the health insurance industry and raised new fairness questions about a law intended to promote affordable and comprehensive coverage. “This type of last-minute change will cause tremendous instability in the marketplace and lead
Over the last several weeks the Obama White House has been executing a media blitz meant to sell Obamacare to the nation—again. As the final maneuver in that plan, the President is releasing several reports on how Obamacare will affect the states. His message: repealing Obamacare will just be too expensive. "These state reports mark the culmination of a multi-week effort by the White House and supporters of reform to bring a renewed refocus on each of these benefits and what the cost of repealing them would mean," a White House official told reporters at The Hill. Obamacare supporters crafted these reports to
The wrecking ball swung again toward the crumbling Obamacare edifice yesterday. Ironically, it continues to be the Obama administration that is operating the heavy machinery. Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius announced, in the form of a letter to Democratic senators, that Obamacare’s individual mandate tax will be waived in 2014 for persons who had their policies canceled in 2013 due to Obamacare. At this point, after months of on-the-fly pronouncements, delays, and exemptions (often announced, not coincidentally, in the days just before a major national holiday), perhaps nothing should surprise us anymore about Obamacare’s disastrous rollout. But yesterday’s announcement
Olympic gold medalist Brian Boitano has announced he is gay. Boitano´s personal news comes two days after the figure skater was named to the official United States 2014 Sochi Olympics delegation by President Obama. "While I am proud to play a public role in representing the American Olympic Delegation as a former Olympic athlete, I have always reserved my private life for my family and friends and will continue to do so," Boitano, 50, said in an official statement. (Snip) Boitano joins tennis player Billie Jean King and Olympic ice hockey bronze medalist Caitlin Cahow as the third openly gay athlete
On Friday at the White House, President Obama lashed out at ABC News reporter Jonathan Karl and Fox News’ Ed Henry, explaining that he was self-critical enough that he did not need to hear critical questions from the two of them. “It’s not that I don’t engage in a lot of self-reflection here,” he said in response to a question from Karl. “I promise I beat myself up even worse than you or Ed Henry does, on any given day, but I’ve also got to wake up in the morning and make sure that I do better the next day.” Obama’s
The Robertson family of "Duck Dynasty" fame has rallied around its patriarch, saying his controversial comments on homosexuality are "grounded in the teachings of the Bible." But Scripture is fiercely contested ground, and some experts say Phil Robertson misinterprets a key Bible verse. A&E, the network that broadcasts the hugely popular "Duck Dynasty" show, suspended Robertson for a now infamous interview with GQ magazine. In the article, Robertson, who became a born-again Christian in the 1970s after a prodigal youth, is asked to define "sin." Here´s what Robertson says: “Start with homosexual behavior and just morph out from there. Bestiality, sleeping around
The A&E Network’s suspension of Phil Robertson, star of the most popular reality show in the history of television, for espousing views on homosexuality identical to those found in the New Testament may not be the first PC lynching in the history of our country, but it is certainly now the most prominent. It is also a singular example of how political correctness, via cultural relativism, is used to undermine democracy and freedom of speech and is, at its core, fascistic. Yes, I just used the f-word and quite deliberately. PC and cultural relativism are the godchildren of Martin Heidegger
At 9:30 a.m. on December 19th, CNN´s Piers Morgan tweeted that the First Amendment "shouldn´t protect vile bigots" like Phil Robertson. And while making this claim, Morgan also reiterated his position that the Second Amendment "shouldn´t protect assault rifle devotees." Twitchy.com posted Morgan´s tweet, as well as one he sent six minutes earlier in he which typed, "Phil Robertson is not a ´victim of political correctness.´ He´s a victim of his own repulsively racist, homophobic bigotry." When defenders of Robertson´s right to speak his mind took to Twitter to tell Morgan how the First Amendment works, Morgan hedged himself in by tweeting, "Calm
