On June14, 1982, I watched the leading elements of Britain’s task force march wearily but triumphantly into Port Stanley, as the Argentine forces in the Falkland Islands surrendered. [Snip] The Royal Marines and Parachute Regiment put to flight a rabble of Argentine conscripts who were playing way out of their league--Wigan Athletic against Manchester United. We came home in a haze of euphoria to find the British people likewise. The ghost of the Suez Crisis, a 1956 national humiliation, was laid at last. We had reasserted the nation’s proud martial heritage. The Argies discovered that whatever their prowess at football

The tragedy here is that many of the Brit commenters after this article are making no distinction between the United States and its current ´administration."

They are conflating the despicable Zippy - - and his lo-fo supporters - - with all the rest of us. This saddens me a great deal. I´ve had nothing but wonderful experiences during many visits to the UK - - and it pains me to see our good friends turn their wrath on all the rest of us.

#2, unless things have changed greatly since I was an Englishwoman still living in England, I believe that when commenters say "US" or "America," they do mean "US administration." That word--administration--is not used when referring to administrative government in the UK. They usually just say "the government" or "Downing Street."

British Conservatives are likely to admire the American people, Labourites and other lefties definitely not!

"Talk to some of our old soldiers or vets and they will tell you about the brits and their always in the rear of any fight..."

Sorry, but this is inaccurate, historically and grammatically. First of all, until late 1941, it was the U.S. that was in the rear, as we had not yet entered the conflict. Britain faced the most terrifying war machine ever built (to that point), and they did it alone. You might research Arras, Adler Tag, Gazala, El Alamein, Caen, Imphal, Arnhem. One may dispute some of the British tactical dispositions, but never their guts or their willingness to get into the fight. How nice it would be if you could find this info with your computer before composing a reply.

Our love hate relationship with France is on again? ObaMao´s lo fo followers won´t remember back to France´s non-help in Reagan and Bush times and events?

So the divided country are also divided on our allies? French many be oldest if you do not count they were scalping American colonists along with other Brits in pre-revolution times.

Brits on the other hand have been the most reliable. Where do our interests lie? With a narcissist in WH, a community organizer who wants what wealth we have left to feed the have-nots in Africa and other communists our interests and his may diverge?

If a war hasn´t been declared can the case be made about aiding and abetting the enemy with mere rhetoric in this new and fundamentally changed America.

So how about that change? Only possible because of the corrupt partisan media and the complacent public.

Only God can save us but here I am writing instead of doing the obvious and imperative.

Vladimir Putin mobilised more than 150,000 troops and an armada of ships yesterday for a drill to test the combat readiness of forces in western Russia as tensions over Ukraine continue to grow. In addition to the soldiers--nearly twice the British Army’s manpower after planned cuts--880 tanks, 210 aircraft and 80 warships will take part in the operation. The manoeuvres raised fears that the Russian president may be planning to send forces into Ukraine after the toppling of its Moscow-backed president Viktor Yanukovych. While 40 percent of Americans claimed to be satisfied with the president, only 10 percent are ´very satisfied´ with Obama´s performance so far.
