FORT HOOD, Texas - A military court on Wednesday sentenced Maj. Nidal Hasan to death for the 2009 shooting rampage at Fort Hood, giving the Army psychiatrist a path to the martyrdom he appeared to crave in the attack on unarmed fellow soldiers. The American-born Muslim, who has said he acted to protect Islamic insurgents abroad from American aggression, never denied being the gunman. In opening statements, he acknowledged to the jury that he pulled the trigger in a crowded waiting room where troops were getting final medical checkups before deploying to Iraq and Afghanistan. The same jurors who convicted

Despite all the special privileges he will get in prison I would really like to see Obama or his successor commute the sentence to life in prison. This animal wants to be a martyr and we shouldn´t let him be.

From the AP.

The headline tells us there was a shooting (singular) at an obscure place in Texas.

It was all rather unremarkable. Nothing to see. Can´t we just move on?

And besides, Hasan felt it was necessary.

#6...we went round and round about media reports regarding who took down Hasan on many threads in 2009...it was a HE not a SHE...Officer Kimberly Munley was extremely brave and confronted Hasan but it was Officer Mark Todd who shot and paralyzed Hasan before focusing on saving the life of Munley...Todd was subjected to a lot of media abuse at the time as someone trying to steal Munley´s limelight...both testified to the above at trial:

Kiev, Ukraine- As Ukraine´s new leaders accused Russia of declaring war, Russia´s Prime Minister warned Sunday that blood could be spilled amid growing instability in the neighboring nation. Kiev mobilized troops and called up military reservists in a rapidly escalating crisis that has raised fears of a conflict. And world leaders pushed for a diplomatic solution. In a post on his official Facebook page, Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev called the recent ouster of Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych a "seizure of power." "Such a state of order will be extremely unstable," Medvedev said. "It will end with the new revolution.

The city in question is Seatac, a small suburb in the state of Washington (it’s name is derived from the larger neighboring cities of Seattle and Tacoma). Nearly a generation ago, MSNBC´s Chris Matthews coined a description of our two political parties that may turn out to be his most enduring contribution to American punditry. Republicans, Matthews wrote, were the "Daddy Party," all about military security and self-reliance; Democrats were the "Mommy Party," all about health, education and nurturing. At the time, in 1991, Democrats weren´t sure they considered that much of a compliment. Since then, a long line of Democratic presidential candidates — including one who is an actual mommy, Hillary Rodham Clinton — have taken pains to prove they could be as tough and decisive

PEREVALNE, Ukraine— Just inside the main gate to the military base, four young Ukrainian soldiers stood in the middle of the road, as if somehow they alone could stop what was on the other side. They were hardly an intimidating group. They were young and unarmed and didn´t look like they had ever been anywhere near combat. One, the soldier whose eyes kept blinking nervously, didn´t look old enough to shave. Outside the gate, though, things were different. There were a half-dozen soldiers in unmarked green uniforms, all wearing helmets and body armor, and all carrying automatic weapons. Every 50

They talked about canceling the president’s trip to a summit meeting in Russia in June, shelving

It’s well known that Bush and Putin got on well at first. But when the relationship soured, Bush became exasperated by his talks with the Russian bully. Putin seemed to delight in debating Bush. Officials say Obama may retaliate by canceling a trip to Russia this summer for an international summit and could also cut off trade discussions with Moscow. But it´s unclear whether those moves will have any impact on Russia´s calculus in Ukraine, which is at the center of what many see as a tug of war between East and West. President Obama´s proclaimed strategy to "bypass Congress" — most conspicuously his broad rewriting of the Affordable Care Act — has given unusual prominence to a fairly arcane legal doctrine: standing. Standing is what is preventing a potential blizzard of litigation against the president´s unilateral decrees, and ironically, it´s a doctrine liberal jurists have long decried. To challenge the government in federal court, it isn´t enough to simply believe that the government´s conduct is illegal or even unconstitutional. Federal courts can hear only specific disputes about the law as applied to particular people. To be heard in court, a person must have

Obama expressed “deep concern,” the White House said, and called on Russia to withdraw its forces back to its bases in Crimea and “to refrain from any interference elsewhere in Ukraine.” Putin appeared to have given little ground, according to a readout of the conversation from his office.
