Boxer pushes for $10 minimum wage
The Hill (Washington DC), by Blake Neff

Original Article

Senator Barbara Boxer (D-Calif.) said Monday night she wants the minimum wage increased to $10, a nearly $3 boost from its current level of $7.25. “I think about $10. I think that would be right,” Boxer said in an appearance on MSNBC´s "The Ed Show." Boxer said that a boost to the minimum wage would “make a huge difference.” “People are struggling,” she said. “The difference between the very wealthy and the working poor has grown.” Boxer also said an increase in the minimum wage would advance the core causes of the Obama presidency. “We raise that minimum wage, and

I think this is a fantastic idea! EXCELLENT!

And to show us how serious she is, I would suggest that this $10/hour wage apply to all of Congress for the next two years, to show us all how great an idea it is.

Sigh, these morons just never stop. Raising (read Gov forced) minimum wages has been proven time and time again to cause employers to lay off workers to compensate for the wage increase. Just like Obamacare is causing fulltime worker losses.

The Dems do not care about working poor, this is just platitudes and social engineering to get a vote from the mouth breathers and honey boo boo´s. Damn the unintended consequences...

Why not make it $100 an hour? Then everyone could live very comfortably, and we´ll all be happy.

Well, that certainly would be spreading the wealth (or lack thereof) around!

A few years back, Rush had an outstanding example of why there shouldn´t be a minimum wage: (Question and answer)
+ How about a $10 minimum wage?
Excellent! Stick it to da man!
+ How about a $100 minimum wage?
Even better!
+ How about a $1,000 minimum wage?
Yesssss!
+ How about a $10,000 minimum wage?
Hey, somethin´s wrong here...
+ How about a $100,000 minimum wage?

It´s already $8/hour in California, and the state Assembly is only proposing increase up to $9.25 over 3 year span.

So, what´s Boxer´s motivation?
And she really thinks this president has good ideas?

I believe most union contracts are based off the minimum wage, so they would be seeing increases too.

I suggest any increase in minimum wage has corresponding decrease in unemployment check. At $8/hour, that´s $320 per week which will be taxed. Thus, I suspect many on unemployment will find not working a better option than working a minimum wage (hamburger flipper jobs, if you will).

Let me understand this, we raise the minimum wage, but we also raise taxes and that makes who better off? One can only deduce that simply lowering taxes would make more jobs available and even minimum wage earners would get to keep more of what they earn thus making everyone better off.

Why raise the minimum wage to such an insignificant level. The minimum wage should be at a minimum $25 an hour. This will kill all the present minimum wage jobs, and guess who will be most affected, minorities.

I would guess that most people making minimum wages aren´t actually paying taxes, they are receiving money from the government in the form of EITC (earned income tax credits). So if they make more money because of increased minimum wage, they will make less EITC.

I am convinced that some of these lefties know what they are doing and want the economy to fail so that they can replace it with their Socialist Utopia (which have all failed entirely on their own). Others are just plain idiots and don´t understand the simple concept of cause and effect.

Every time they start gearing up for re-election one of the tricks that the liberal Democrats use to hype up the working poor is to call for a big raise in the minimum wage. It looks like they are getting an early start this time around.

Many union jobs have pay that is tied to the minimum wage. A raise to the minimum wage will automatically give the union workers a raise. See how that works? Unfortunately, this will also cause cutbacks and job losses in the economy and drive up youth unemployment, "but at this point, what does it matter?".

At the same time, whacking them to $10 per hour would leave you with no candidates except those already rich and those willing to accept handsome bribes (which they would legalize as soon as the next session of Congress)

Although the Civil Rights Act, the landmark legislation which just reached its 50th anniversary, made great strides in desegregating the economy, economic discrimination is still widespread, and anti-discrimination legislation alone can never rectify the economic damage inflicted upon blacks by slavery and our Jim Crow apartheid regime. The Civil Rights Act was a mild reform, all things considered, but one conservatives fought with vigor and one many conservatives are still bitter about to this day. When the Civil Rights Act passed in 1964, the primary purpose was to root out discrimination in public accommodations (like hotels and movie theaters)
