The U.S. National Security Agency has bugged the United Nations´ New York headquarters, Germany´s Der Spiegel weekly said on Sunday in a report on U.S. spying that could further strain relations between Washington and its allies. Citing secret U.S. documents obtained by fugitive former intelligence contractor Edward Snowden, Der Spiegel said the files showed how the United States systematically spied on other states and institutions. Der Spiegel said the European Union and the U.N.´s Vienna-based nuclear watchdog, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), were among those targeted by U.S. intelligence agents. In the summer of 2012, NSA experts succeeded in getting into the
That´s actually great news. After two ruinous wars with Germany in the last century where tens of millions of innocent people were just flat out murdered WE NEED TO SPY ON THE GERMANS, their governments, and their institutions.
I think Snowden´s belief that spying on Germany was some sort of bad news gives us some idea of which way he leans politically ~ and it´s far from pro-American!
We spy on everyone and have for some time, and they spy on us and we know it. What´s unique and the MSM is trying to whitewash over it, is that the NSA is spying on private citizens, and undoubtedly public officials and corporate executives.
What this administration really doesn´t want us to find out is that the NSA is spying on our elected officials. They want to keep that on the down low because it has been a very effective tool in advancing Obama´s agenda. Minds are easily changed when secrets are being threatened with exposure. During the Clinton administration those files on Republicans Hillary "found" was very old school. This administration has taken it to a whole other high tech level. Progressives believe that any action is justified if it advances the cause. This government is power hungry and out of control. It will take an enormous effort to undo the damage if that is even possible now.
#9 ~ it´s a remarkably loosely kept secret that NSA can monitor all electronic communications anywhere on the planet and has had that capability for more than a decade.
One of the big complaints after 9/11 was WE DIDN´T PAY ATTENTION TO WHAT THEY WERE SAYING
Oh, BTW, wasn´t a secret at all was it.
Now, back to the vast treasure trove of domestic data that´s created and kept by your friendly neighborhood ISP or the more alien Google.com, or Yahoo, or.... or even .....!!!!!!!!
Those guys are required by law to keep that stuff. Anti American agitators can keep denying that creating data bases has anything to do with the downstream spying but if the data bases didn´t exist the spies wouldn´t be able to tap into them!
Those who claim no one ever heard about it is nonsense. Anyone who´s been on a board like this one for any length of time has read all about it numerous times.
There´s about a 5 hour lag time from really good soundbytes on Lucianne.com and Mark Levine BTW ~ use it for pro-American purposes.
Earlier this month, U.S. President Barack Obama announced plans to limit U.S. government surveillance programs, saying the United States could and should be more transparent.
With such a tenderfoot as Obama is in charge makes one cringe. I think the Pres. has giving the reigns of the various branches in his regime to numerous people. Therefore the Pres. is free to golf and shoot hoops incessantly. I don´t think a loafer like him can comprehend all that his office requires at all?
#1 Maybe this will prompt the U.N. to move off of U.S. soil. woohoo! #2 How does a low level contract employee get access to this kind of material from his cubicle?!!!
Spying on countries to protect your own country has been going on since day one. It is spying on your own people that has caused the uproar. The treasures that come from such mining could be used as blackmail and alter votes in congress and at the supreme court, or perhaps to get a military general to be your puppet.
#9 one example of the "Clinton machine" during the impeachment was when somehow it was revealed that Dan Burton - in the course of an extramarital affair - became the father of a son who was subsequently adopted, who did not know anything about who his real father was - just HOW did the Clintons break into sealed adoption records? I thought at the time, well that should be their Watergate moment, when everyone will finally realize what kind of people they were - I still have a hope that it will come out someday how Hillary orchestrated that little bit of business.
Time to throw the UN and all its Muslim psychopaths, out of New York. Imagine, Islamic supremacists who get no parking tickets. Who is paying for all this anti American conspiracy activity anyway ? NSA can make a comeback by exposing the UN. Next, they can expose the Congress bribing army of corporate overpaid lobbyists. Exposing all of Hillary´s crimes is wishing for too much, but.....
In foreign affairs there are no friends, their are no enemies, but merely temporary alliances and temporary disagreements. I expect my government to spy on other governments and would consider it a dereliction of duty if they failed to do so. I also expect other governments to spy on my government and am surprised if they do not.
I object to my government spying on me and my fellow citizens. We are footing the bill for this monkey business.
All of this spy vs spy has been going on since the dawn of mankind. Information has been and always will be valuable to someone somewhere. Like others here, I don´t object to us spying on other countries and even countries spying on us. What is objectionable is spying on individuals that have nothing to do with national security. What is going on is collection information on citizens to be used against them for a number of other reasons, personal and business.
What became crystal clear to me in all these revelations is that nobody is watching the watchers. What audits they have are classified so only a handful of people, who may have political motivations, have the opportunity to know what NSA employee and organizational actions are. It appears that the FISA court doesn´t have sufficient access. I am concerned about the lack of checks and balances.
I think snowden was given access to all this info. It may have been serveral moles that were offered this info or access to it. the idea was to shake up American´s view of their country. To make the American people so nervous and frustrated and ready to give up. "Just Stop allthis." We Will agree to changes to get back to where were. But that will engender a lifetime appointment of a "Chancellor" to run everything. I say the heck with that.
"I will be pleased to have you visit," read the email that landed in my inbox this spring. It was signed, " Bernard Madoff. "That exchange led to a two-hour meeting in May with the most notorious fraudster on Wall Street, during which Mr. Madoff pointed fingers at others and said his decadeslong Ponzi scheme wasn´t really his fault. He was dismissive of regulators and whistleblowers, calling Harry Markopolos —a fraud investigator who warned the Securities and Exchange Commission about Mr. Madoff—an "idiot." The federal prison in Butner, N.C., looks more like a small college campus than a penitentiary.
LONDON — Scores of flights were delayed or canceled at Britain´s busiest airports Saturday because of a technical problem at a main air traffic control center. National Air Traffic Service, which controls the crowded airspace over England, said it was having a problem switching between nighttime and busier daytime operations at its control center in Swanwick, southern England. Spokeswoman Juliet Kennedy said the glitch was preventing staff opening new control positions to deal with busier daytime traffic, meaning the service was struggling to handle the volume of flights. "At the moment we don´t know when we will be able to
Big Brother may be watching you. But Glenn Greenwald is watching Big Brother. That´s not a bad take on how the 46-year-old constitutional-law attorney turned crusading journalist turned thorn in the side of the NSA might describe his mission. At least in part. Greenwald is doing more than just watching. By combing through the tens of thousands of classified NSA documents leaked to him by Edward Snowden -- and publishing in newspapers around the globe report after report on the secretive agency´s mass-spying activities -- he´s got the whole world watching too.
The Maryland official who directly oversaw the rollout of Maryland’s health insurance exchange resigned Friday amid continuing technical problems that have hampered the state’s online enrollment efforts. After an emergency session Friday night, the board of the Maryland Health Benefit Exchange accepted the resignation of Rebecca Pearce, its executive director, and thanked her in a statement for working “tirelessly and with tremendous dedication” for more than two years. In recent weeks, the lagging enrollment and online glitches have embarrassed the administration of Gov. Martin O’Malley (D) and become a political liability
Earlier this week, Onyango "Omar" Obama, uncle to Barack, said in a deportation hearing that he stayed with his nephew in Cambridge in the 1980s. The White House had to that point said that the president had never actually met Omar, who was arrested for drunk driving in 2011. Now, two years after the arrest brought denials of any sort of relationship from the White House, the president is admitting that, yes, he briefly lived with his uncle Omar before heading to Harvard Law School in the ´80s. "The president first met Omar Obama when he moved to Cambridge for law
Technicians in the Washington area raced up to a month-end deadline set by the Obama administration to make the troubled federal insurance website work for a majority of users, but officials acknowledged they still faced a raft of problems that could take weeks or more to fix. By Saturday evening, technicians completed a major hardware upgrade, adding computing, storage and database capacity to their data center, said one person familiar with the situation. "There was a big install and it worked," the person said. Contractors believe the upgrades will improve the system´s performance and let it handle more visitors, but the person
The once-sleepy town of Williston sits on the confluence of the Yellowstone and Missouri rivers in the US state of North Dakota. Five years ago, Williston had a population of 12,000 and was slowly dying on its feet – an agricultural hub marked out from the plains only by the grain silos that stand silhouetted against the big North Dakota skies. The fall-out from a brief oil boom in the mid-1980s had left the town with sky-high debts and a main street filled with empty shops and peeling facades. Young people looking for jobs skipped town at the first opportunity. Today, Williston is
The CIA used a secret base at Guantanamo Bay nicknamed ´Penny Lane´ to turn some of al-Qaeda´s most dangerous terrorists into double agents, US officials have admitted.Inmates languishing under Guantanamo Bay´s harsh regime were offered cash rewards, "hotel" style rooms and even pornography if they agreed to help the CIA track down and kill fellow al-Qaeda operatives. Instead of Guantanamo´s spartan cells, they would be transferred to cottages equipped with private kitchens, showers and televisions, as well as their own patio. A handful then signed agreements to work for the CIA, under which they were released and told to hook up once
DALLAS - A winter storm system blamed for at least 10 fatal accidents in the West and Texas threatens to dampen the Thanksgiving holiday for millions of Americans traveling this week.Nearly 300 American Airlines and American Eagle flights were canceled in and out of Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport on Monday due to the weather, spokeswoman Laura Masvidal said, mirroring disruptions at the air hub a day earlier. Some of the country´s busiest airports - New York, Washington D.C., Philadelphia, Boston and Charlotte, N.C. - could see big delays. Icy roads led to hundreds of accidents and at least 10 deaths, half
As he climbed the political heap, a young Barack Obama roused audiences with promises to unite the nation. He was a Senate candidate in 2004 when he told the Democratic national convention, “There is not a liberal America and a conservative America. There is a United States of America.” In 2007, he declared early in his presidential run that “I don’t want to pit red America against blue America. I want to be the president of the United States of America.” A year later, after he won the Iowa caucus, he promised, “We are not a collection of red states and blue
Remember President Barack Obama´s mother? Though the airwaves currently echo with his vow "If you like your plan . . ." I keep remembering Obama´s account of his mother being denied coverage by her insurance company as she lay dying of cancer. The moving and infuriating story was a staple on the 2008 campaign trail. His mother had insurance, he explained, but when she came down with cancer, her insurance company claimed her disease was a "pre-existing condition" and refused to pay for her treatment. In a debate with Sen. John McCain, Obama said: "For my mother to die of cancer
Lawmakers began reacting late Saturday to news of an historic agreement that freezes key parts of Iran´s nuclear program. Here are excerpts from statements responding to the deal: House Majority Leader Eric I. Cantor (R-Va.):"While I await specific details of the interim agreement, I remain concerned that this deal does not adequately halt Iran´s enrichment capabilities. Numerous U.N. Security Council resolutions have called for the full suspension of Iran´s nuclear activities, so it is troubling that this agreement still permits the Iranians to continue enriching. It is critical that distrust but verify be the guiding principle with which we approach
The question all week long was this: Who are you going to believe, an illegal alien or the president of the United States of America? Obviously, if it’s a president who once went by an alias, Barry Soetoro, you go with Uncle Omar, 100 percent, no questions asked. And so it was that the White House finally admitted to another, uh, misstatement — despite previous denials, Barack/Barry did sleep on his beloved Uncle Omar’s couch in Cambridge when he first moved here to attend Harvard Law School (speaking of which, we’re still waiting to see the president’s grades and his LSAT scores). But the
More young men in California rise in pitch at the end of their sentences when talking, new research shows. This process is known as "uptalk" or "valleygirl speak" and has in the past been associated with young females, typically from California or Australia. But now a team says that this way of speaking is becoming more frequent among men.The findings were presented at the Meeting of the Acoustical Society of America in California. "We found use of uptalk in all of our speakers, despite their diverse backgrounds in socioeconomic status, ethnicity, bilingualism and gender," said Amanda Ritchart, a linguist at the University of
How do you get your arms around the catastrophe known as Obamacare? Is it even possible? At this point, I’m not sure it is. The list of individual disasters which threaten to ruin one-sixth of the U.S. economy and what has been, up until now, the best healthcare system in the world is exhaustive, and exhausting. The examples I will identify here barely scratch the surface. First but by no means foremost, we have the supposedly new and improved HealthCare.gov. Except it’s not, even the visible part. Stories still abound of people still failing to get in or to get through the enrollment
DAVID CORN: I saw a president who remains frustrated with the political-media culture that he has to work within, and that he´s looking to rally people, students here, and supporters, and people within the media. CHRIS MATTHEWS: But David Corn, you skeptic. He came to us today. He came amongst us. CORN: He´s trying to rally people behind this vision that he´s been promoting for a couple years. FINEMAN: By the way, he did it the end here, today, Chris, not by defending specifics, but by explaining why he´s in the game to begin with. And I don´t know about you, he´s
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has announced a new five-year strategic plan to improve safety for elderly drivers and passengers. Although they are statistically among the safest on the road, the number of older drivers is increasing dramatically — and with it, that group´s numbers of injuries and deaths. Since 2003, the population of older adults, defined as age 65 and older, has increased by 20% and the number of licensed older drivers increased by 21% to 35 million in 2012, according to NHTSA. Last year, NHTSA reported that 5,560 people older than 65 died and 214,000 were injured
The most curious thing of all about the November jobs report released on Friday was the huge drop in the unemployment rate — and the fact that the Labor Department chose not to disclose that the data going into that figure are under investigation for falsification. On Nov. 19, I broke the news in my column that the Census Bureau, which collects data that goes into the jobless rate on behalf of Labor, had caught one of its enumerators fabricating interviews in 2010. The culprit said back then (and to me during an interview) that he was told to do so by

Barack Obama did not tell the whole story this autumn when he tried to make the case that Bashar al-Assad was responsible for the chemical weapons attack near Damascus on 21 August. In some instances, he omitted important intelligence, and in others he presented assumptions as facts. Most significant, he failed to acknowledge something known to the US intelligence community: that the Syrian army is not the only party in the country’s civil war with access to sarin, the nerve agent that a UN study concluded – without assessing responsibility – had been used in the rocket attack. In the months before the attack,
Dr. Ezekiel Emanuel, the hapless, goalpost-shifting so-called "architect" of Obamacare, told Fox News´ Chris Wallace on Fox News Sunday that President Barack Obama´s promise "if you like your doctor, you can keep your doctor" was absolutely true--with one important caveat: if you like your doctor, "you can pay for it." Wallace grilled Dr. Emanuel, challenging his false claims that California´s enrollment was keeping pace with the percentage of the young population necessary to keep the system afloat, and pointing out that the president´s promise on doctors would collapse once people lost their insurance or their
President Barack Obama’s Facebook page on Saturday posted a message honoring the dead from Pearl Harbor—accompanied by a picture of Obama descending the stairs next to the Pearl Harbor Memorial. The picture barely fits the name of the Arizona Memorial so it can frame Obama in the foreground. The post´s statement reads: Today, with solemn pride and reverence, let us remember those who fought and died at Pearl Harbor, acknowledge everyone who carried their legacy forward, and reaffirm our commitment to upholding the ideals for which they served. President Obama The Obama Administration´s current shipbuilding plan shrinks the size of
One definition of a pathological liar is someone who lies where the truth would serve just as well. When President Obama’s uncle, Onyango Obama, was arrested in 2011 for drunk driving, the truth — that Obama had stayed with his uncle years earlier for several weeks as a Harvard law student — would have served the president just fine. No potential Obama voter would have held it against him that an uncle he had stayed with two decades earlier was picked up for DUI. Yet the White House went with a lie, claiming that Obama had never met his uncle. Now that
