Murder of Australian student Chris
Lane, 22, was not motivated by
race says district attorney

Sunday Mail [UK], by Associated Press & Daily Mail Reporter

Original Article

Posted By:Attercliffe, 8/25/2013 6:03:15 AM

An Australian baseball player who was allegedly shot and killed at random while he was jogging wasn´t targeted because of his race or nationality, the prosecutor in charge of the case has said. -Snip] ´At this point, the evidence does not support the theory that Christopher Lane was targeted based upon his race or nationality,´ District Attorney Jason Hicks said in a statement on Friday. Hicks acknowledged that social media posts allegedly made by some of the defendants are racial in nature, but he said ´the evidence is insufficient to establish that race was the primary motive´ in Lane´s slaying.

Comments:
"The evidence is insufficient"? More likely to be the investigation was insufficient.

Was race the primary ´motive´ in the Trayvon Martin case?

The subjective assigning of motivation, or attaching the label hate crime, means that we are giving the government the right to read our minds. This is madness. The crime itself is heinous enough to warrant extreme punishment. All of this hate crime business needs to go away. Punish the evil-doers to the extent of the law. That is enough.

When your whole point of view is seen through the prism of race, it defines how you think about people. It is the first consideration that comes to mind and then other factors kick in. What blacks don´t want you to know is that they are themselves capable of racism. They don´t want you to know it because they can´t keep beating all whites over the head with that charge when they are guilty of racism themselves. The vast majority of whites don´t hate other races. That is a myth. The white community condemns the racists in their midst. The black community denies that racism is even possible in theirs which allows and encourages it to fester.

There was no indication that George Zimmerman harbored racists thoughts. In fact, the evidence proved otherwise. Yet, he is called a racist. However, by their own social media documentation, there is proof that these perpetrators were definitely racists. They hated whites, but that is not racist? You can square that circle.

#9 is exactly right. There is a lot of emoting and not a lot of thinking going on in this thread. First of all, we don´t have hate crime laws here in Oklahoma. So, it was pointless to ask the County DA his opinion because it is an irrelevant factor. Secondly, we take care of business here in Oklahoma. We will take care of this situation just as we took care of the tornado aftermath. And, now, just as then, we don´t need a bunch of out-of-staters who don´t know our laws or anything else regarding Oklahoma, flapping their gums. Stephens County is "salt of the earth". I don´t believe they would have elected a DA who wasn´t a good guy. So lay off.

#20, you beat me to it and I agree with your post 100%.

The killers would have undoubtedly shot another black kid if they knew he was in the wrong gang. After all, black on black murder is the dominant form. I don´t think there is a large black population in OK where this murder occurred.

It´s not the call by this DA that race was not a factor that is so aggravating; it´s that the Zimmerman/Martin case was so wrongly considered racist by the Left that has screwed things up so badly.

The Left want racism in America. It supports their narrative. Talk about ugly people with worse motivations...

Anyone with access to the internet, starting with pjmedia.com, would find overwhelming evidence of anti-white racial hatred as a motive, in about ten minutes. This DA is either dumb as a log, or, more likely, a house-trained poltroon who is part of the establishment conspiracy to suppress the truth on inter-racial crime, see related posts on splashingrocks.blogspot.com.

I don´t think racism as a motive should have a special charge. They killed this kid because they have no moral bearings, they have no regard for human life or the law. They have no respect for themselves, their families or their community. They are becoming a lost generation. I don´t support federal hate crime legislation. It is a very one-sided, dangerous type of legislation. As we have seen.

So Jones is white, Edwards´ gf´s white and the other hater´s mom is white, so ipso fact it´s not a race crime? Black kids today are raised to hate whites in the abstract. Having a white friend isn´t abstract; it´s personal. No one seriously believes these thugs would´ve gunned down a black person; they were looking for a white, any white, and Lane was in the wrong place at the right tame for them to act out their racism.

I´ll wager this DA didn´t graduate at the top of his Law School class. Why did he charge the white driver with a lesser crime? He should have been charged with Murder 1 and then allowed to plead down (with his cooperation). Charging the white guy with a lesser crime just opens the door for more racist rhetoric.

Just listened to the prosecutor on Chris Wallace. He made several good points.

He does not have hard evidence that this was racially motivated. He has no proof that Edwards was the person who actually put up those racist tweets. And he mentioned that hate crimes are misdemeanors in Oklahoma.

He is focusing on the homicide believing that Lane´s murder, his lost life, is more important than anything else.

It is clear that he believes Edwards and Luna are guilty of murder. Oklahoma will punish them with life in prison without possibility of parole. Because of their age, federal law says they cannot be executed.

I am not concerned about this guy´s commitment to throwing the strongest book at these thugs.

I do believe that race was a motivating factor, but is that provable at that very moment? Probably not. Personally, I hate the "hate crime" label in any case. Is it less hateful to kill someone of your own color? The deed of premeditated murder is driven by some type of hate, at some level, isn´t it? And if we want to talk hate, look at rap music lyrics. And yet all that subculture gets ignored, as though it doesn´t feed and foment hate. It´s just one big elephant in the room.

Relations between Washington and its long-standing ally Saudi Arabia have sharply declined in recent months over US policy in the Middle East--now even a visit to Riyadh by President Obama might do little to narrow the differences, reports the BBC´s Kim Ghattas in Washington. US officials briefing reporters ahead of the trip have said little of substance about what they expect, other than to say it is very important. Ben Rhodes, the president´s deputy national security adviser, did acknowledge that there were disagreements between the two countries. One of them has already put a small damper on the trip. On

Nearly six in 10 people disapprove of President Obama´s job performance in a new poll by the Associated Press, the highest rating recorded by the newswire. According to the AP-GFK survey released Wednesday, 59 percent disapprove of Obama´s job performance while 41 percent approve. A similar poll released by the news outlet in January found 45 percent approved of him while 53 percent disapproved. Other recent polling has found Obama´s disapproval rating slightly lower, remaining in the low 50s. A CBS News poll Tuesday showed 50 percent disapproval, while Gallup has his disapproval at 52 percent. In the AP poll,

On Wednesday, Obama administration officials announced a two week extension in the deadline to enroll in the Affordable Care Act or face a penalty defined as a tax. Asked about this “delay” in the implementation of the ACA on Wednesday, Sen. Harry Reid (D-NV) said that there has been no delay. He added that some of the users who experienced problems with the website early on need more time, partially because “people are not educated about how to use the internet.” “There’s no hiccup or delay,” Reid insisted. “We had hundreds of thousands of people who tried to sign up and

On Tuesday night two things happened. 1. A trio of Secret Service agents were sent home from Amsterdam after one was found passed out drunk in a hotel hallway. 2. The Obama Administration announced (another) extension of the enrollment deadline for Obamacare signups. At first glance, these two events have little in common with one another. But, modern politics is all about narratives and storylines. And, both of these events confirm a growing concern from the public about President Obama: That he´s just not up to governing his administration and, by extension, the country, effectively.

One by one, the myths of the Affordable Care Act have been revealed. When the curtain on open enrollment falls on March 31, the last remaining big myth of ObamaCare will be fully exposed: The individual mandate has failed. After a last-ditch effort with President Obama himself encouraging "young invincibles" to sign up before the deadline, the administration is scrambling to boost enrollment. On Tuesday, the White House announced that people who applied for coverage on the federal health-insurance exchange will have until mid-April to finish the paperwork. The mandate was supposed to be the administration´s magical elixir for the assorted shortcomings

More than six million Americans have now signed up for private insurance under the Affordable Care Act, according to the White House, with just four days to go until the end of its first open enrollment period. While traveling in Italy on Thursday, President Obama shared the news in a conference call with thousands of health-care navigators and volunteers helping enroll people on state and federal marketplaces. As the volume of consumers seeking health plans has surged -- there were over 1.5 million visits to HealthCare.gov Wednesday and more than 430,000 calls to the marketplaces´ call centers -- Obama urged those on

Their target is the GOP, but they are not angry liberals bent on destroying it. They are reform-minded Republican leaders intent on strengthening it. These Republicans are applying conservative principles to 21st-century challenges, focused on middle-class concerns like lowering costs and improving access to college, modernizing health care and reforming the tax code. They aim to broaden prosperity´s reach through markets and merit, not government and corporate cronyism. They´re also concentrating on helping the poor by changing Washington´s dizzying assortment of antipoverty programs to emphasize work and make the safety net more effective and sustainable. The reformers´ success in providing

One is a world leader who has been praised for his humility and outlook on the world. The other is an American president, once the international superstar of the political stage. So it is no surprise that President Barack Obama has travelled to the Vatican in Rome possibly to get some tips from the popular Pope Francis who now even has own weekly glossy magazine dedicated to him. As he sat down with the Pontiff at the Vatican this morning, Obama called himself a ´great admirer´ of the pope. Their historic first meeting comes as Obama´s administration and the church

Chicago - In a ruling that could revolutionize college sports, a federal agency has given football players at Northwestern University the green light to unionize. Wednesday´s landmark ruling by a regional director of National Labor Relations Board means the players are deemed employees under federal law and so can create the nation´s first college athletes´ union. Union lawyers argued the Big Ten school´s football players are part of a commercial enterprise that generates hefty profits through their labor. The NCAA, Big Ten Conference and the private school vehemently opposed the union drive. Northwestern argued that college athletes are
