An 88-year-old veteran is dead after he was attacked Wednesday night in North Spokane. The victim, Delbert Belton, was a World War II veteran living in Spokane, according to his family. Spokane Police said in a news release that they responded to a call of an assault at the Eagles Lodge, 6410 N. Lidgerwood. When they got there, they found Belton in his car with serious injuries to his head. He was taken to a local hospital where he died this morning from his injuries. Belton, who was called “Shorty,” by his friends, fought in the Battle of Okinawa in
Comments: This is the local coverage, with a bit more info, photos.
Of all of the myriad of black on white crimes, this one enrages me the most. I want that skinny resident at 1600 Penn to say something fast. This is his doing. We are not going to sit back and take this forever.
I put the blame squarely at the occupant at 1600 PA - this is ALL his doing - this is ALL his divisive talk and of course let´s not forget Al and his pal Jesse - absolutely disgusting and appalling words can´t say what I am thinking about this punks - just following the marching orders ???
Seeing as how it was reported a couple days ago the DHS guy was promoting race-wars. It sure seems Civil Rights are being set back at least 50 years by the race allegedly being oppressed. It´s 2013! It´s not 1963 or even 1863. My condolences to the family. Thank you or your service and sacrifices sir. God bless you!
Everyday I realize more and more the sad fact that I no longer recognize the USA.
Today we lost a Warrior to two animals that are the product of a society and culture that is running amok throughout America.
Thank you Mr. Belton for the your service and for your sacrifices. I am so very sorry that the country you defended and protected created and nurtured a cultural climate that in the end murdered you. May your soul have eternal peace.
I don´t think it was a crime. It doesn´t appear to be a crime to me. These acts, Duncan, Trayvon Martin (he was not the victim, he was the aggressor and would have been charged had he not been killed), Mr. Belton, and the many, many others we have been reading about over the last 4-5 years seem more in the nature of acts of war. The media is aware of it, they just don´t report it because they are trying to keep a lid on it hoping it can be contained. The government is trying to contain it by treating it as a crime. Every act of war can be seen as a crime under definition of criminal law, you have to look at the surrounding circumstances. The race leaders, black panthers, black separatists, community organizers, have been filling their young people with hate for decades. It´s beginning to leak out.
What do you expect from Zero. He was raised by a wacko Marxist family. A mother who did all she could to screw up a son providing him with a transvestite nanny in Indonesia. His real father was likely a bisexual black communist....not named Obama. The icing on the cake was Jihad Jeremiah...that racist anti-American. Would you want that asshat to baptize your children? Obama is indeed the great divider and as close to the anti-Christ as I hope we will ever get. Zero is directly responsible for the decay of this country. Thanks you stupid voters.
I live in Spokane. If this can happen here it can happen anywhere. This is not the first black on white crime here. Be careful, something is going on and it will not always be reported except on Drudge and here.
Is Jesse Jackson going to "frown" upon this too? That was his strong statement about the gunning down of Christopher Lane. Somewhere, I hope that George Zimmerman is finding some peace as the hypocrisy of the race-mongers is revealed. Haven´t heard from Trayvon´s parents in awhile. Their 15 minutes has expired.
obama incited racial resentment, which has clearly escalated. I suspect an incident may spark riots in the street, e.g., an attack by a black mob, who are literally outgunned. Jaws are set. Tensions are approaching the breaking point. Grab a tight rein.
Too bad he couldn´t have pulled a 45 on these urban savages. They deserve to be shot down in the street like vermin. Is this what America has spent trillions of tax dollars for? America would have achieved so much more if not for so much of it´s energy and treasure being diverted to feed, house and incarcerate almost 80% of African-Americans. Without them there would have been no Civil War and an Australian athlete and Delbert Belton would still be alive.
What would have happened if Belton somehow pulled a legally obtained gun and shot his attackers in self-defense (he WAS murdered)? Obama would remain silent. Sharpton would organize a march for a vigil for these SOB gang-punks. Liberal media would parade racists to condemn Belton for taking the lives of innocent children like innocent Travon. They would pronounce him as suffering from dementia and anti-gun morons would start whining about how someone with Alzheimers could get a gun. Obama has intentionally divided America for his own political advantage. These murderers are ignorant drones ... tools of the black-as-victims race industry. Americans, you´d better wake up to the new Black Offensive against whitey ... you could be next
So, this time they did not use a gun. Anyone hear Michell malkin´s argument with that screwball Richard Fowler? Fowler mad at guns instead of the black thugs who gunned down that Aussie baseball player. Now, what they gonna blame? Beating an old man to death? Jesus H. Keerist! When are these feral beasties going to start to get tamed? Are we really in a race war on top of a religous war?
I don´t care if they are black, white, red, yellow, brown or green, charge the parents. Both of them. It might take a generation or two, but they will get the message. Take care of your children or face the consequences. By the way, Obama has set race relations back 60 years. On purpose.
Hey, we´re getting fed up with the black on white murderous assaults, especially those targeting babies and the elderly! And NBC, you´re complicit in this for doctoring the Zimmerman 911 tapes and so is Obama. You´ve all got blood on your hands.
I hope these punks pay dearly for this crime. By the way, I carry a .45...target me next time!
This story almost brought me to tears. He faced enemy soldiers with guns on the other side of the world and managed to survive it. It took two thugs from his own country to take his life over something trivial like a few bucks, or even that the two creeps were "bored" and wanted to rough up a white guy.
This really touches me because my grandfather, a Marine, was also wounded on Okinawa. The two of them could have been transported to safety on the same ship, for all I know. My grandfather has been gone for many years, but the thought of him being victimized by two pieces of garbage like the ones who killed Mr. Belton is just too difficult to imagine.
Liberal democrats, you have taken fathers, consequences, faith and ambition away from our young people. You own this mess we´re in.
No, we´re not going to sit back and take this, not those of us with a clue. I have "protection" in my car, not a gun, but I pity the poor fool that tries to carjack me or otherwise assault. I recognize danger when I see it and I AM looking for threats as I go about my business.
Amongst other negative qualities, these animals are cowards, they tend to run in packs, even to attack a feeble old man. They are motivated by nothing but hatred while I am motivated by my love of life.
I predict that those of us defending ourselves will prevail in most cases and these miscreants will start dropping like flies. Sadly, some of us will be prosecuted for defending our lives as was George Zimmerman. Still it´s true, better to be judged by 12 than carried by 6.
Yes, No. 28, I heard that so called debate. That African American nut would not shut up and let Michelle Malkin talk. Like all liberals he used the technique of talking non stop, over his opponent, so the opponent could not be heard or get a word in edgewise.
I am sickened that two black thugs in do rags murdered a Veteran who fought for their rights. And I am sickened that thousands of American Veterans died so that two black thugs in do rags can live in freedom.
Those responsible need to come forward and take their punishment. You are included Mr. President.
Congress declared a holiday truce in a years-long fight over the federal budget, sending President Obama a spending blueprint Wednesday that is designed to ease sharp spending cuts and keep government operations funded through 2015. Senators voted 64 to 36 to approve the bipartisan budget agreement Wednesday afternoon. Nine Republicans joined with 55 Democrats to approve the legislation, which Obama is expected to sign before departing this weekend for his Christmas vacation in Hawaii. The Republican senators who joined with Democrats were Saxby Chambliss (Ga.), Susan Collins (Maine), Orrin G. Hatch (Utah), John Hoeven (N.D.), Johnny Isakson (Ga.), Ronald Johnson
Sasha and Malia Obama are big fans of Beyonce and Jay Z but neither of the girls have any interest in politics, their parents have revealed. ´They love Jay Z. They love Beyonce. Sasha is still a One Direction fan, although I think Malia has become a little less into boy bands,´ Mrs Obama said in a joint interview for People Magazine. ´They´ve gotten to know Beyonce, and she has always been very sweet to them,´ Mr Obama added.Though the girls were not present for the interview, which was excerpted online, they appeared to be the only ones picking pop
A grandmother from Georgia who bought a last-minute lottery ticket has been revealed as one of the two winners sharing a $648 million Mega Millions jackpot. Ira Curry, 56, from Stone Mountain near Atlanta, won $173 million after buying the ticket from a newsstand in her office building. The other winner in California has still not claimed their winnings. Mrs Curry, an underwriting manager for an insurance firm, bought just one ticket - a last-minute decision - and played a combination of family birthdays and her family´s lucky number, seven. She only realized she could be the winner when, while driving
J.C. Hayward’s last noon broadcast began like any other, with orchestral theme music and the top headlines of the hour. It was Oct. 1, the first day of a partial government shutdown that would dominate Washington news for weeks, and there was Hayward, pivoting to lighter fare with a short take on two National Aquarium alligators heading to a new life in Louisiana. She then emerged from behind the WUSA (Channel 9) anchor’s desk to interview a cancer survivor whose story inspired a feature film. These are the rhythms of local television news, the rhythms that have been at the
When the last bullet-producing lead smelter closes its doors on Dec. 31, it will mark a major victory for those who say lead-based ammunition pollutes the environment, but others warn ´green´ bullets will cost more, drive up copper prices and do little to help conservation. The bid to ban lead bullets, seen by some as harmful to the environment, started slowly more than a decade ago. But with two dozen states, including California, banning bullets made of the soft, heavy metal, the lead bullet´s epitaph was already being written when the federal government finished it off. First, the military announced
The Federal Reserve announced Wednesday it would begin rolling back its stimulus for the economy, cutting the amount of bonds it purchases every month by $10 billion. The Federal Open Market Committee announced it was ready to “modestly reduce” the size of its bond purchases at the end of its policy meeting. The central bank had been buying $85 billion in bonds every month. Beginning in January, it will buy $35 billion in mortgage bonds and $40 billion in Treasury debt. The Fed said it decided to begin rolling back its stimulus due to “cumulative progress” towards maximum employment and the improved outlook of the labor market. “The committee sees the improvement in economic activity and labor market conditions over that period as consistent with growing underlying
Republican Study Committee Chairman (RSC) Chairman Rep. Steve Scalise (R-La.) is calling for the resignation of White House counselor John Podesta for comparing the House Republicans to Jonestown cult. Podesta was named to the post just one week earlier. The Jonestown Massacre resulted in the deaths of more than 900 people who drank poisoned Kool-Aid in 1978 at the direction of cult leader Jim Jones in a South American Jungle. Podesta told Politico that "[White House officials] need to focus on executive action given that they are facing a second term against a cult worthy of Jonestown in charge of one
This will get your motor running. A 700-horsepower Hennessey C7 Corvette Stingray became the first 2014 Corvette to break the 200 mph barrier. It happened on a newly created CLOSED section of the Grand Parkway toll road outside of Houston, Texas. Highway 99 is slated to be opened to the public on Saturday. Even though Texas has the Union´s first 85 mph highway, the Hennessey team does not recommend the following video. This was a legal operation overseen by the Texas Department of Transportation and Department of Public Safety. The Hennessey C7 HPE 600, equipped with a 100 horsepower Nitrous
The White House will release later Wednesday the report of a surveillance review board that has recommended modifying the National Security Agency counterterrorism program that collects virtually all Americans’ phone records. The recommendation that the NSA no longer keep the phone database — estimated by some former officials to contain more than 1 trillion records — is among a set of sweeping technical reforms aimed at restoring public confidence in the spying apparatus, said individuals briefed on its contents. President Obama on Wednesday morning met with the five-member Review Group on Intelligence and Communications Technologies. Rather than the NSA, the phone
Oh dear. The Obama administration isn’t doing very well with putting an empathetic face on its calamitous health-insurance law, is it? First, we had Julia, the creepy, eyeless, vision-of-horror from Brave New World whose life was run from cradle to grave by the federal government. Then, we had Adriana, the painfully neutral and carefully ambi-racial stock-model-from-everywhere whose face became so synonymous with HealthCare.gov’s hilarious launch that she had to be replaced with a graphic plugging an 800 number. And now, courtesy of Organizing for Action, we have “Pajama Boy, a metrosexual hipster in a plaid onesie who wants you to
Consumers worried that tight deadlines around the holidays and lingering computer problems could thwart their efforts to secure coverage under President Barack Obama´s health overhaul will get extra time to pay, the health insurance industry said Wednesday. The board of the industry´s biggest trade group -- America´s Health Insurance Plans -- said consumers who select a plan by Dec. 23 will now have until Jan. 10 to pay their first month´s premium, instead of a previous New Year´s Eve deadline set by the government. For coverage to take effect, consumers must make sure they pay their initial premium on time. Karen
Nero “fiddled,” so they say, while Rome burned. Today, this epigram all too accurately describes President Obama’s approach to U.S. national security. For five years, he has resolutely consigned foreign and defense issues to the bottom of his policy agenda, resulting in increasing disarray both domestically and abroad. The United States needs strategic thinking internationally, and we are getting the opposite. Mr. Obama’s personal Rome, the Affordable Care Act, is indeed self-immolating, and he responds by giving speeches (his version of playing Nero’s cithara) rather than taking command to save his eponymous program before the administration itself is consumed. Domestic
President Barack Obama sent Russia a clear message about its treatment of gays and lesbians with who he is — and isn’t — sending to represent the United States at the Sochi Olympics. Billie Jean King will be one of two openly gay athletes in the U.S. delegation for the opening and closing ceremonies, Obama announced Tuesday. For the first time since 2000, however, the U.S. will not send a president, former president, first lady or vice president to the Games. Russia has come under fierce criticism for passing national laws banning “gay propaganda.” Though the White House did not specifically address
A&E broke its silence on Duck Dynasty star Phil Robertson’s anti-gay comments late Wednesday. The cable network announced Robertson is off the hit show for the time being. The network issued the following statement to EW: “We are extremely disappointed to have read Phil Robertson’s comments in GQ, which are based on his own personal beliefs and are not reflected in the series Duck Dynasty. His personal views in no way reflect those of A+E Networks, who have always been strong supporters and champions of the LGBT community. The network has placed Phil under hiatus from filming indefinitely.”
The gay and lesbian rights group GLAAD is slamming ´Duck Dynasty´ patriarch Phil Robertson for comments he made about homosexuality to GQ magazine, and challenging the show´s network, A&E, to take action against its most popular star. In a wide-ranging interview, Robertson shared his thoughts on homosexuality and religion. After stating in very graphic terms his preference for heterosexual sex over homosexual sex, Robertson launched into more thoughts about homosexuality and sinning. “Everything is blurred on what’s right and what’s wrong... Sin becomes fine,” he said.
Yes, she really said it. On CNN’s Piers Morgan Live Tuesday, in a brief discussion about President Obama, Barbara Walters actually said, “We thought that he was going to be - I shouldn´t say this at Christmastime, but - the next messiah” (video follows with transcript and commentary): PIERS MORGAN, HOST: You have interviewed every president of my lifetime. Why is Obama facing so much opposition now? Why is he struggling so much to really fulfill the great flame of ambition and excitement that he was elected on originally in 2009?
Reportage of last week´s Nelson Mandela funeral reveals clearly enough that President Obama has reached the point in his tenure where everything ceases to go right -- when even the most serious and determined efforts deteriorate into a hash, or worse, a joke. This happens to everyone in public life eventually, politicians above all. The original attraction wears thin, flaws appear more prominently, styles and opinions change. There is little the individual can do to avoid this.(snip)The Mandela funeral shows that Obama is deep into this phase of his career, and has landed on his head.
Everyone is doing thoughtful year-end pieces on President Obama. Writers and reporters agree he’s had his worst year ever. I infer from most of their essays an unstated but broadly held sense of foreboding: There’s no particular reason to believe next year will be better, and in fact signs and indications point to continued trouble. I would add that in recent weeks I have begun to worry about the basic competency of the administration, its ability to perform the most fundamental duties of executive management. One reason I worry is that I frequently speak with people who interact with the White
London – Large tapestry portraits of President Barack Obama were unveiled for guests at the U.S. Embassy in London over the weekend. The recently-installed, large-scale tapestry portraits were created by National Medal of Arts winner and renowned American painter, photographer Chuck Close. Close created the portraits by compiling and interweaving Polaroids of the president from an hour-long photo shoot done the summer before, the Washington Post reports. The portraits are nearly 8 feet tall and more than 6 feet wide, with the final piece looking like photos but feeling like textiles. Close used one photo of Obama smiling and another
John Podesta was just named as a new senior-level adviser to President Obama last week, but he´s already ruffling Republican feathers. In a profile published late Tuesday night by Politico Magazine, Podesta is quoted comparing Republicans to the infamous cult led by Jim Jones, who was responsible for the 1978 cyanide poisoning of more than 900 of his followers in Guyana. "They need to focus on executive action given that they are facing a second term against a cult worthy of Jonestown in charge of one of the houses of Congress," said Podesta of what Obama´s White House team faces.
On Monday, Variety reported that Fox News had once again dominated all comers I the annual ratings, not merely blowing out CNN, MSNBC and HLN, but drawing more viewers than the combined averages of the three other networks. Fox News averaged 1.774 million viewers in primetime; the other three averaged a combined 1.626 million viewers in primetime. Fox finished sixth among all basic cable companies. The addition of Megyn Kelly to primetime has been a boon for Roger Ailes and company, with Kelly up 23% in total viewers in the timeslot. No wonder CNN, which is struggling to outpace Headline
The U.S. Army War College, which molds future field generals, has begun discussing whether it should remove its portraits of Confederate generals — including those of Robert E. Lee and Thomas “Stonewall” Jackson. Nestled in rural Pennsylvania on the 500-acre Carlisle Barracks, the war college is conducting an inventory of all its paintings and photographs with an eye for rehanging them in historical themes to tell a particular Army story. During the inventory, an unidentified official — not the commandant, Maj. Gen. Anthony A. Cucolo III — asked the administration why the college honors two generals who fought against the United States,
Hours after we reported that Duck Dynasty star Phil Robertson dropped some illogical “logic” on homosexuality during his GQ interview, his home network A&E decided to indefinitely suspend him from the show. While Robertson’s comments were hilariously ignorant, they were predictable — especially given his family’s socially-conservative, Bible-loving image. Suspending the lead character for his wholly predictable comments is not only an overreaction but a gross misstep. To recap: The Duck Commander patriarch remarked to the men’s magazine that homosexuality is on par with bestiality, and used fifth-grade “logic” to imply that homosexual men should give up their ways of choosing a
Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) took some shots at his fellow Republicans during Tuesday’s Senate debate over the proposed bipartisan budget deal put together by Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI) and Sen. Patty Murray (D-WA). Joining the more moderate wing of the Republican Party, McCain declared his strong support for the deal and accused any members of the GOP who plan to vote against it of lacking “intellectual integrity.” McCain said he was supporting the bill for two reasons: One, to prevent the possibility of another government shutdown, and two, to alleviate the “devastating impact of sequestration on our military.” “The American people steadfastly
