The UN weapons inspectors are powerless--President Bashar al-Assad has got the green light to carry on using chemical weapons against children. If the casualty figures emerging from Syria this week are correct, then Wednesday’s massacre in the outskirts of Damascus will be the worst poison gas attack the world has witnessed since Saddam Hussein’s slaughter of Halabja’s Kurds in 1988. UN weapons inspectors sit a short drive from the site of the attack. [Snip] They are prevented from visiting anything other than three agreed sites. The government is naturally withholding permission; serial killers rarely usher the police into their victims’
the problem of course is that this president drew a red line at chem weapons. but apparently he is a paper tiger. that leaves us looking weak, and makes us vulnerable. not good. 3 1/2 more years of this folly - mein gott!
Uncle Sam may be on vacation with the Prez. Good place for both to be. The world wanted the hegemoniacal US to get out of the business of being leader of the world and the lo fo voters wanted the dems untried black by choice, white socialist by birth and training to lead the way away from world leader.
Time for Europe to step up and into place as they are destined to do in the rise of the Holy Roman Empire. Or not. In any case no more American blood spilled and then wasted by the democrats. Not even missiles to shoot through tents and hit camels in the butt. Stay on vacation obummer, it may be cheaper in the long run, even.
Keep the American military out of this mess. We have given enough. Our foreign policy is in such a mess that no one knows what it is and whose side we are on. For once, let the Muslims figure it out on their own. We can´t force them to be civilized. Bring the military home. We have lost enough blood over these savages. The way things are going here, they are going to be needed here to keep the peace, posse comitatus notwithstanding.
Agree with the above posters. The Muzzies can kill each other off without us this time.
There was a time when the Shah of Iran, who was a major shopper at Uncle Sam´s Military Hardware Store, kept all of his Arab neighbors in line for us. Sort of like our policeman in the Gulf. Then came Jimmy Carter, who helped the radical Islamic fundamentalists overthrow the Shah, the that´s when the pot started to broil over.
Save who from what...the Syrians from themselves? The Muslims from themselves and secular Ba´thists? There´s no one to save in this dysfunction. Our foolishness was siding with the religious-fanatic "freedom fighters". BTW: Has anyone proven this is not another hoax? Or, a propaganda hit?
How very European for the regime to shut down in August. Hilarious watching FNC reporter quiz State Dept spox about whereabouts of our new UN Ambassador. The regime is so paranoid about appearances that they can´t even admit when the ambassador had a vacation day(s) off.
And #3 is correct. If bombastic Barry didn´t get all braggadocio about a chemical weapons ´´red line´´, we could just do a Clinton dodge on the whole Syria thing, no problem. This time his faux warning just takes us down a couple more notches in global power and influence, one of his core competencies. Pssst, Barry! Next time call it a ´´Yellow Line´´, more in keeping with your gutless empty threats.
I agree with the let evil and eviler settle it between themselves crowd. But I do question, that if chemical weapons were used, who used them? Assad is winning, why would he risk bringing re-enforcements to his enemies? It only makes sense that the terrorists/general purpose bad guys/anti-Syrian rebels of the week either faked this or made the attack in an effort to bring the US into it. It´s not like they´ve never done that before. I think we should concentrate on figuring out the motives of the close to home journalists and pols who are trying to prod Obama into attacking Syria.
Uh ... yes we are. It´s a done deal. American boots on the ground probably by the end of September. The only question is, which false flag event will trigger it? Watch for something much worse. Al Qaeda is the tip of the spear to carry it out and Assad will be blamed for it. Then in goes the American cavalry to support the Muslim Brotherhood.
I am of the opinion that the rebels caused this gassing, either deliberately, or by accident. Until I see more evidence that Assad would stoop to this, that is my take on this issue.
We do not need to help the rebels. Let them sort it out for themselves. They won´t thank us for sticking our noses in their battle. They never have, why should they start now? After all, wasn´t our SA base the excuse that OBL gave when he plotted 9/11?
Benghazi, Syria are the Obama legacy. Bombast with no action doesn´t work. Teddy Roosevelt said, "Speak softly and carry a big stick." Obama is the exact opposite. If he is not prepared to back up his words with action, he should shut up.
P.S. Where did all this poison gas come from? Did Assad get it from Saddam? Perhaps that is why none was found in Iraq.
Years ago, Ann Coulter said, paraphrase, "Invade, kill their leaders, convert them to Christianity." She was castigated. But she was right. Unless we are willing to remake those societies like we did with Germany and Japan, then we should not participate.
Trouble is though, I am sure that Russia and China will not be so principled. The former communist nations must be pinching themselves in glee.
Try to imagine our non FOX media writing an article like this about Obama instead of watching him giggle on the golf course. You can´t , won´t ever happen.
FTA- "So exactly one year after President Obama declared that he would draw his red line in Syria at the use of chemical weapons, and only two months after concluding that they had indeed been deployed, the message being sent to Assad could not be clearer: do as you please. There is no one to stop you, or even dig up the bodies." Obama isn´t concerned that Al Queda might get their hands on, if they haven´t already , Syria´s WMD. His primary focus has been his playtime and laughing with the ´72 Miami Dolphins. In the last 3 weeks, while Obama frolicked and cavorted with Reggie Love on Martha´s Vineyard, the Al Queda that Obama claims is " on the run " in Afghanistan killed 6 American soldiers and wounded an unknown number.

Notice no-one is asking from where the chemical agents came. Would a vigorous response from BO render him "Bush-like"?
After all, the use of such weapons by Saddam against his own people, and the international agreement that these agents were still stockpiled by the Butcher of Baghdad with the possibility that they could be used against the USA --and West in general after 9/11/01-- served as the catalyst for the international attack on Iraq... with Dems in hearty assent!
BO, a merry community organizer and once upon a time part-time "lecturer in law" and then State Senator, disapproved... well, of course! Jeremiah Wright surely fulminated against ["G-damn America"] US action, and BO was a faithful acolyte.
BO was seen playing blackjack with Love.
Meanwhile in D.C., the Dem/Lefties got busy doing what they could to turn Americans against their own country, with President Bush and his Admin. and the Military as the main targets. Wreak havoc they did on the homefront.
Leftists PRETEND at compassion, they are fakers, mendacious, ruthless. They cheat at cards, too.
Dozens of people have died in northern Kenya in a week of fierce clashes between rival ethnic groups, aid sources and reports said. The ongoing unrest, centred around the town of Moyale in Marsabit county on the frontier with Ethiopia, has seen villages burned down and many families forced to flee over the border. According to the Standard newspaper, at least 27 people have been killed and thousands more displaced over the past week. Kenyan peace and anti-tribalism campaigner Jaffer Isaak said he believed the toll was somewhere between 70 and 120 dead, while an independent international aid source, who asked not to
Despite ongoing anger about how the U.S. government is snooping on people around the world, one agency is still keen to boast about its spying - with a creepy cartoon octopus and an alarming logo. A top-secret rocket carrying spy satellites for the National Reconnaissance Office launched from the central California coast late on Thursday, and it had a large badge emblazoned on the side The new logo features a huge and sinister octopus, with just one angry eye visible, as it wraps its tentacles round the globe. Written underneath is: ´Nothing Is Beyond Our Reach.´
China is putting the squeeze on the New York Times and Bloomberg News, and it could have severe consequences for press freedom. The nation has blocked internet access to the two organisations´ websites, denied access to key events, such as the recent meeting between British Prime Minister David Cameron and Chinese Premier Li Keqiang, and delayed visa renewal for more than two dozen reporters. [Snip] "Innovation thrives where people breathe freely, speak freely, are able to challenge orthodoxy, where newspapers can report the truth without fear of consequences,´´ Biden said at a meeting with business leaders earlier that day, as
Ministers from 159 countries have reached a deal intended to boost global trade at a meeting in Bali, Indonesia. The World Trade Organization´s first comprehensive agreement involves an effort to simplify the procedures for doing business across borders. There will also be improved duty-free access for goods sold by the world´s poorest countries. The deal, which could add about $1tn to world trade, gives developing nations more scope to increase farm subsidies. "For the first time in our history, the WTO has truly delivered," said WTO chief Roberto Azevedo, as the organisation reached its first comprehensive agreement since it was
The White House has announced that the President and First Lady will be traveling to South Africa next week to pay respects to Nelson Mandela. Mr Obama and his wife Michelle will be attending memorial events for the fallen South African leader but the specific details of when they will arrive or what events they will be attending have not been disclosed. The South African government announced that the formal state funeral will take place on December 15, capping off a 10-day mourning period. The Obamas are just two of a long list of international dignitaries who are expected to
Sasha and Malia Obama helped their dad ring in the holiday season tonight by attending the 91st Annual National Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony outside the White House. President Obama joked that he would only count down from five to light the tree, since he didn´t want to keep anyone waiting in the rainy weather. ´It´s a little wet out there, so we shouldn´t start at 10,´ the president said. The president then flipped the switch and the tree sprung into multicolored life. The dramatic lighting was followed by performances from Aretha Franklin, who sang ´Joy to the World´, and Mariah Carey.
Family doctors have been accused of failing cancer sufferers after the first ever GP league tables found more than half are not referring such patients to specialists quickly enough. [Snip] Experts said the failure to refer patients quickly explained Britain’s place at the bottom of European league tables, with worse survival rates for major cancers than many countries in Eastern Europe. The national performance data--which covers all 8,000 GP practices in England--enables patients to look up their own surgery, and see how it performs against dozens of indicators about diagnosis and treatment of most of the common diseases and
Almost 50 Russian diplomats and members of their families have been charged in a massive health care fraud scheme, officials announced Thursday. Federal officials allege that 58 of the 63 births to Russian officials living in New York between 2004 and 2013 were fraudulently paid for by Medicare at a cost of roughly $1.5million to US taxpayers. The Russians were applying for these benefits while emptying their pockets at famed stores such as Bloomingdale’s, Jimmy Choo’s, Prada and Tiffany & Co, officials said. The fraudsters carried out the plan by applying for a range of benefits, including Medicare, by falsifying information
A blind pensioner was left lying on the pavement for an hour and a half, waiting for an ambulance after she fell over and broke several teeth. Dorothy Andrew, 75, who walks with a white stick, was left in pain by the side of the road in Southport, despite frantic calls to emergency services. After more than 90 minutes police officers, who had arrived at the scene, took her to Southport Hospital in their patrol car. [Snip] ‘An hour and a half later, we were still waiting for an ambulance. The police were concerned that I was very cold so they took the decision to try and get me in the police car and take me to hospital themselves, which they did.
"You know nothing about Nelson Mandela," spat Julius Malema. It was May 2010, and a foreign correspondent had just asked the African National Congress’s fire-breathing youth leader how he dared compare himself to the secular saint the world is mourning today. In the Western imagination, Mandela stood for racial reconciliation, whereas Malema was given to referring to whites as "criminals" and "the enemy". Mandela also stood for justice, whereas Malema was an open admirer of the murderous Robert Mugabe. At first glance, Malema’s presumption seemed obscene, but he was right on at least one score--the truth about Mandela
Here´s some weapons-grade drivel from the Government´s Environmental Audit Committee. (What else did you expect from a panel chaired by Tim ´Trougher´ Yeo?) Globally, subsidies for fossil fuels exceed $500 billion a year. They are inconsistent with the global effort to tackle climate change, providing incentives for greater use of such fuels and disincentives for energy efficiency. [Snip] We´ve been here before, haven´t we? Lots of times. This fossil-fuels-more-subsidised-than-renewables meme has been spread, inter alia, by the Guardian´s ludicrous Damian Carrington; by Labour MP Barry "Dork Brain" Gardiner (Vice President of the sinister GLOBE international);
Coastal towns across Britain have been left swamped after the worst tidal surge for more than 60 years forced thousands of families to evacuate their homes. Floods waters are reported to be receding after the North Sea surge hit the north Norfolk coast early yesterday evening and headed south throughout the night. But as residents started to return to their properties today, homeowners in the coastal village of Hemsby, near Great Yarmouth, Norfolk, were left devastated to discover their houses had been swept into the sea. The surging tide last night swept away a former lifeboat hut and a number
Last summer on his $100 million family tour of Africa, Barack Obama hoped for a priceless photo op with Nelson Mandela, the ailing freedom pioneer who went from prison cell to the presidency of South Africa. Mandela´s family suggested that wouldn’t happen. So, the Obamas did a photo op in Mandela´s former prison cell. Which Obama’s White House quickly tweeted upon word of the icon´s passing at 95. [Skip] But Obama was also caught staring at television coverage of Mandela’s passing, which became Obama’s Photo of the Day.
Hardly a week goes by without Hillary Clinton receiving another award. Last month she was named a “Global Champion” by the International Medical Corps, received the American Patriot Award at the National Defense University Foundation and the Hermandad Award from the Mexican American Leadership Initiative. [Snip] At this rate, if a bunch of elderly left-wing Swedes toss her the Nobel Peace Prize early on, the way they did to Obama, it will barely rate mention among all the other glittering trophies that have been bestowed on a woman whose only actual accomplishment was being married to a crooked governor with
Speaker John Boehner said his party should support gay Republican congressional candidates and urged his colleagues to “be a little more sensitive” when running against women. “Some of our members just aren’t as sensitive as they ought to be,” Boehner said. When asked if he thinks his party should support gay candidates, Boehner simply said: “I do.”
In February, the Bush family’s personal emails were hacked by Guccifer, a hacker who uncovered photographs of former President George H. W. Bush in a hospital bed and George W. Bush’s oil paintings in the process. It seems Guccifer has struck again, this time targeting former President Bill Clinton and the Clinton Library. The hacker has reportedly uncovered doodles of Clinton drawing on what were, at the time, classified documents. Among the doodles is apparently a picture of a penis. The document uncovered is a briefing of the strategic measures the United States could take prior Clinton’s decision to intervene in
Denver - A baker who refused to make a wedding cake for a same-sex ceremony must serve gay couples despite his religious beliefs or face fines, a judge said Friday. The order from administrative law judge Robert N. Spencer said Masterpiece Cakeshop in suburban Denver discriminated against a couple "because of their sexual orientation by refusing to sell them a wedding cake for their same-sex marriage." The order says the cake-maker must "cease and desist from discriminating" against gay couples. Although the judge did not impose fines in this case, the business will face penalties if it continues to turn away gay
Former President Bill Clinton shared an anecdote regarding Nelson Mandela and the aftermath of his impeachment Friday on CNN. Clinton revealed shortly after the “impeachment business” finished on Capitol Hill, Rep. Henry Hyde (R., Ill.) who managed the impeachment trial requested a meeting at the White House. The former president granted the meeting out of lessons of humility and forgiveness he learned from Mandela, he said: BILL CLINTON: I remember one day, oh, about a month after the whole impeachment business was over, Henry Hyde, who had run the whole show, unbelievably enough, maybe a few months after, it was
Amid an array of “knock-out” attacks against a number of Jews in Brooklyn’s Crown Heights neighborhood, a city councilwoman pointed to the success of the Jewish community as triggering the aggression. Councilwoman-elect Laurie Cumbo emphasized that while she “admire[s] the Jewish community immensely” for its work ethic, black teens may see it differently. “While I personally regard this level of tenacity, I also recognize that for others, the accomplishments of the Jewish community triggers feelings of resentment, and a sense that Jewish success is not also their success,” Cumbo, who was recently elected, wrote in a letter. Chief among the issues
On Tuesday, The Boston Globe reported that Onyango “Omar” Obama, uncle to President Obama, says that his famous nephew stayed with him while a student at Harvard Law School in the 80s, in contradiction to The White House’s contention that the two had never met. At Thursday’s White House daily briefing, Press Secretary Jay Carney confirmed that the President had, in fact, briefly stayed with “his father’s half-brother,” as Carney described Omar Obama, and that no one had actually asked the President about it when the White House initially commented. The 69 year-old Omar Obama has been facing deportation back
The world premiere of the “Ballad for Trayvon Martin for Orchestra and Jazz Quartet” is set for tonight. Princeton University’s director of its jazz-studies program composed the work in honor of the Florida teen. Anthony D. J. Branker told the Star-Ledger that the piece is intended to “be a form of healing” after Martin’s death and the controversial court case that followed it. The ballad, which will be performed by the university’s official orchestra and jazz ensemble, is intended to be a tribute to victims of racial violence, Branker explained. He hopes that the performance will be “one that speaks to
WASHINGTON – A fourth straight month of solid hiring cut the U.S. unemployment rate to a five-year low of 7 percent in November, an encouraging sign for the economy. The Labor Department says employers added 203,000 jobs, nearly matching October´s revised gain of 200,000. The job gains helped lower the unemployment rate from 7.3 percent in October. The strengthening job market is likely to fuel speculation that the Federal Reserve may start to scale back its bond purchases when it meets later this month. The economy has now generated an average of 204,000 jobs from August through November. That´s up
WASHINGTON — President Barack Obama has high praise for potential 2016 contenders Vice President Joe Biden and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. “I think Joe Biden will go down in history as one of the best vice presidents ever, and he has been with me, at my side, in every tough decision that I’ve made,” Obama told MSNBC in an interview Thursday held at American University. “Hillary, I think, will go down in history as one of the finest secretaries of state we’ve ever had, and helped to transition us away from a deep hole that we were in,
WASHINGTON — Without Nelson Mandela, there might never have been a President Obama. That is the strong impression conveyed from Mr. Obama, whose political and personal bonds to Mr. Mandela, the former South African president, transcended their single face-to-face meeting, which took place at a hotel here in 2005. It was the fight for racial justice in South Africa by Mr. Mandela that first inspired a young Barack Obama to public service, the American president recalled on Thursday evening after hearing that Mr. Mandela, the 95-year-old world icon, had died. Mr. Obama delivered his first public speech, in 1979, at
