America the Trivial
Tribune Media Services, Inc, by Victor Davis Hanson

Original Article

Two quite different 21st-century Americas are emerging. The nation is not so much divided by “wars” between the rich and poor, men and women, or white and non-white. Instead, there is the world of reality versus that of triviality. In the vast plains of the Dakotas and the American West, thousands of men and women of all classes and colors are fracking oil and gas to create new energy for millions of homeowners and commuters — while giving America a second chance at strategic energy independence. Yet the beneficiaries mostly ignore these elemental efforts. They instead prefer to fixate on the

Gotta love another VDH article.

I don´t know who´s better - Steyn or Hanson. They both hit the nail square on the head every time.

As long as the money keeps flowing the trivial lifestyle will continue, but as soon as they run out of everyone else´s money all hell will break loose.

The Reggie Love admission that the President played numerous games of spades while the seals were executing the Bin Laden strike is one of the most damning incidents again Obama.

Yes, yes, it´s exhausting that the press does not absolutely hammer Obama for his lies about the Bin Laden assassination. Were this Bush, he would be in the ash heap of history for something as egregious as that. Bush pausing a moment when he heard about 9/11 while reading a book to kids was used to attack his rep interminably.

Obama is grubby and disgusting.

I have an idea re the following:

As we sleep, 7,000 miles away there are still thousands of American soldiers of all races, ages, classes, and genders in godforsaken conditions fighting the Taliban to allow millions in Afghanistan the chance for an alternative to medieval theocracy and to deter terrorists.

Bring our guys home and have them fight the more important war against the American people by this Administration´s storm troopers in the NSA, the IRS, the DOJ and now, HHS.

The MUST READ titled "Feds are building a detective squad to target consumers and companies that don´t follow Obamacare´s rules" is shocking.

American citizens here on our own soil are under attack by these Agencies. We have awakened to find ourselves being charged as criminals by those who don´t obey Obamacare dictates. The nation has become a police State because Congress won´t act and the people are apathetic.

Liberals gave the government this power through sheer ignorance or ideological fanaticism. Others, to be kind about it, simply bought all the lies reiterated in today´s column "Joe Wilson Was Right."

The commander-in-chief was playing cards while Navy SEALs risked their lives to kill America’s No. 1 enemy — only later to use photos of himself watching live feeds for his reelection sloganeering: “Bin Laden is dead and General Motors is alive!”

In this beautiful country which used to be the land where people went to be free to pursue their dreams, we now see in plain sight the face of totalitarianism. And what is being done?

This isn´t simply just another cycle of things going bad in America then the other sides comes along and makes things right again. This is do or die and I don´t like the looks of the patient.

Great article by VDH.
I once had a drill instructor in the Army that had a clip board with the words, "how can so few be so foul to so many" This is what I think of the government and what the instructors words applied to. It could have been dictators and despots being foul to people of the countries they ruled over. I now know it applies here.

SANTA CLARA, Calif. -- Investigators say they´ve made an arrest in the cold case murder of 38-year-old Cathy Zimmer, a woman found strangled to death in her car at the San Jose airport. On March 8, 1989, the mother of two drove her children to school, had lunch with a friend and attended two classes at San Jose State University, but then missed an optometry appointment. Two days later, San Jose police located her Chrysler New Yorker in the short-term parking lot at the airport and found her body in the backseat wrapped in the quilt. On Friday, officials announced

NATIONAL HARBOR, Md.—Rand Paul handily won the presidential straw poll at the Conservative Political Action Conference Saturday, one gauge of the Republican base’s mood less than two years before the 2016 primary season kicks off. The Kentucky senator received 31 percent, far ahead of second place Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas), who received 11 percent. Neurosurgeon Ben Carson finished third with 9 percent, ahead of New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, who received 8 percent. The announcement came at the end of the group’s annual three-day confab. Organizers said that 2,459 attendees voted on computer kiosks.

Two congressmen lawmakers concerned about a government censoring of Saudi Arabia’s alleged role in the 9/11 attacks will hold a press conference this week with families of the victims to step up pressure on the White House to declassify the information. Three months ago, Reps. Walter Jones (R-NC) and Stephen Lynch (D-Mass.) introduced a resolution urging President Obama to follow through on his campaign promise to 9/11 families to release the censored section of a 2002 congressional report on the attacks. Their Dec. 2 bill, which has attracted five co-sponsors, was referred to the House Intelligence Committee, where it languishes.

It´s been merely a month since Congress passed a putatively slimmer $1 trillion farm bill, and, surprise, Democrats have already wiped out most of its speculative $800 million in savings this year by gaming new food-stamp eligibility rules. Republicans look like rubes for buying this dressed-up turkey. One of the farm bill´s ballyhooed reforms was closing the "heat and eat" loophole, which allows states to leverage federal funds from the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (Liheap) to raise food-stamp eligibility and payments. Fifteen states as well as Washington, D.C. participate in "heat and eat," and more may join once they

It was lost among the week´s more dramatic news in Ukraine and Lois Lerner´s continued refusal to tell America and a congressional committee what she knows about the IRS scandal, but U.S. District Judge Lewis Kaplan landed a devastating blow against greenmail. That´s what can happen when Big Green environmental activists and class-action lawyers combine forces to use the federal court system to shake down corporate defendants for billions of dollars, usually via out-of-court settlements. The Environmental Protection Agency has cleared New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie’s administration of allegations that it suspiciously shut off an air pollution monitor during last fall’s lane closings on the George Washington Bridge. The group Public Employees for Environmental Responsibility made the charges last month, saying the air monitor closest to the bridge had been turned off during the Sept. 9-13 lane closures, when piles of idling cars and trucks were spewing pollution from their tailpipes. PEER asked EPA to investigate, writing that federal regulations don’t allow the monitors to be shut down without EPA’s permission except for routine maintenance, and

There is the question of how to respond practically to Putin’s aggression and there is the question of how to respond intellectually. The latter is no less important than the former, because the Ukrainian crisis is not a transient event but a lasting circumstance with which we will be wrestling for a long time. We must mentally arm ourselves against a reality about which we only recently disarmed ourselves: the reality of protracted conflict. The lack of preparedness at the White House was not merely a weakness of policy but also a weakness of worldview. The president is too often

The White House brushed off concerns Friday that, with the crisis in Crimea intensifying, now might not be the best time for President Obama -- and his vice president -- to go on vacation. The travel schedules of both the president and Vice President Biden have come under scrutiny, given the rapidly changing situation in Ukraine. Obama, already in Florida to talk about education, was planning to spend some family time this weekend in Key Largo, Fla., where he arrived late in the day. Biden, meanwhile, will be in the Virgin Islands. Despite some apparent discussion over cutting the president´s trip short,

What a small and politically vicious man New York´s new mayor is. Bill de Blasio doesn´t like charter schools. They are too successful to be tolerated. To understand Britain’s cowardice in standing up to Vladimir Putin, just follow the money. On Monday, a freelancer photographer called Steve Back snapped a photograph of a document being carried cavalierly in the open by British officials entering Downing Street. The document was a list of suggested countermoves by Westminster to play against the Kremlin for Russia’s recent invasion of the Ukrainian peninsula of Crimea. Some of the items tracked with what other European and American counterparts were thinking. Let’s not fuel up the NATO jets quite just yet; let’s send a monitoring team from the UN and/or OSCE to Crimea

The standard media coverage of President Obama´s new budget claimed the proposals will cut $600 billion in spending over the next decade. It was just about impossible, though, to find any media story mentioning some basic numbers that belong in any story about a new federal budget. How much money is the federal government spending this year? How does that compare to what it spent last year, or expects to spend next year? Perhaps the reason for this failure is because the real numbers don´t match up with the storyline. For example, in the current year, the federal government is expected to

What’s been said of confession — that it is good for one’s soul but bad for one’s reputation — can also be true of testifying to Congress, so Lois Lerner has chosen to stay silent. Hers, however, is an eloquent silence. The most intrusive and potentially most punitive federal agency has been politicized; the IRS has become an appendage of Barack Obama’s party. Furthermore, congruent with exhortations from some congressional Democrats, it is intensifying its efforts to suffocate groups critical of progressives, by delaying what once was the swift, routine granting of tax-exempt status. So, the IRS, far from repenting

One of the most seismic changes in American politics over the last decade has been the emergence of a sharp generational split among the electorate. The Democratic Party owes its success in the last two presidential elections almost entirely to overwhelming support among the very young, which has overcome continued conservatism among older voters. The Pew Research Institute has dominated the field of exploring the ideological cleavages among different generations. And its latest survey shows again how the liberalism of the youngest voting cohort, millennials, remains firm, and likely to continue to recast the electorate. A few charts from the survey

But since definitions of an "in name only" marriage vary, such as "a marriage of convenience" or "a sexless marriage," and Maraniss failed to explain his claim, it is unclear what he was implying. Therefore, Obama´s oft-told nativity story must be searched for the full implications of Obama´s parents´ "in name only" marriage. The most dangerous parts of a flight are takeoff and landing. Rarely do incidents happen when a plane is cruising seven miles above the earth.
