President Obama’s “red line” for Syria is once again being tested after rebel forces said Wednesday that the regime of President Bashar Assad used poison gas to attack civilians near Damascus, killing potentially hundreds in what could turn out to be the deadliest deployment of chemical weapons yet. Adding to the pressure on the White House were videos supplied by rebels showing victims convulsing and choking, and powerful photos of children wrapped in clean white shrouds, lined shoulder to shoulder with their dead faces visible. The Syrian regime adamantly denied that it used chemical weapons. The White House said it
well, well, well time for another round of golf and then labor day vacation oh yes and tell holder he has to send zimmerman to the can under whatever pretense. And after that another bold climate change initiatve.
Obama & his entire government apparatus makes my hair hurt! He is seriously out of his league! Where, besides Mark Steyn or Mark Levin are the people who will call him on his ginormas failure to lead! To at the very least acknowledge what´s swirling around him! I´m really beginning to dislike this Obama fellow! btnboerne
After almost 5 years of this clown we have in the white house, it is time to have a discussion of whether or not the U.S. should continue to borrow insane amounts of money to police an undeserving and ungrateful world. Let´s develop our own energy sources and leave the adherents of the religion of peace to their own devices.
This could be a frame job by the rebels to bring outside help in.The media has painted a rosy picture of the rebels when they´re really a bunch of radical Islamists.Obama, still reeling from the MB defeat in Egypt, would probably love to send troops in but there´s not enough of a clear world mandate and then he´d have to get by congress.
This is none of our business and we should stay out. Let the UN send in some sacred blue helmet soldiers. As long as they have wi-fi to play video games.
The regime is losing Egypt so they need a big distraction so the amerikan sheeple will not look too closely at all the scandals and illegal, unconstitutional misuses of power from the District of Corruption.
This looks like another false flag to get Assad.
Look at it this way, Assad is winning, what purpose does it serve him to gas a bunch of children ?
Did you know that the UN team inspecting the previously-alleged chemical weapon attack entered Syria yesterday, the same day that the latest so-called attack occurred?
Why on Earth would Assad ever make another attack when the UN just showed up? Answer is that he would never. The only way that Assad can lose now is if NATO and especially the US are drawn in to fight his army. Right now, he´s winning.
And the corollary is that the "rebels" are losing. At least half of the rebels are outsider Al Qaeda. If the chemical weapon attack did occur, reasonable speculation would be that the Al Qaeda committed the attack on the rebels, no Assad.
Who has the stronger need to induce UN condemnation? No even close. Plus, what a perverse universe we would live in, and what a hoot for Al Qaeda, is if the US arms Al Qaeda via the rebel forces in Syria.
The virtue (if that is the right word) of the red line comment is that it underlines the manner in which Fauxbama constantly contradicts himself. In the red line case, his contradictions/lies/obfuscations are crystal clear. The bottom line, however, is that he does this all the time. All mouth; no hat; no cattle.
Barry´s red line foolishness just proves he´s an empty suit. Don´t think there is much coincidence involved in the timing of the chemical attack,,,kinda like the coincidence of Benghazi coming on 9/11.
Beware, to those that are goading obama to take action. You are being played again.
It makes no sense that the Syrians would do this just when a UN inspection team arrives to investigate - exactly this sort of thing. The Syrians (with Russian support) were winning. Killing kids and civilians is how the muslim extremist roll.
The French are chomping at the bit to be led from behind - again (read US $$).
What´s really sickening is that the CIA embedded with al Qaeda may have helped pull this off. Would you put this past this administration?
Did the indispensable Susan Rice, our recently appointed UN ambassador, attend the emergency Security Council session yesterday to set a Syria response? If so, what was her position? If not, where the heck was she? She might be thinking that Assad or the Brotherhood gassed a few Syrians in protest to an offensive video or some other far- fetched idea. Still, we pay her and should hear what she´s got to say.
Barry´s approval is back up to 48 on Rasmussen. Must be that Americans approve of his resisting the neocon call for intervention, because it can´t be any economic news. Ever since Iraq, Americans have been tuning out neocons like John Bolton and McCain-they´d prefer not to be greeted as ´liberators´ again.
In an era where Lies are the SOP, staged deaths and fake casualties rule .. and this Administration is intent upon invading the entire Mideast .. I´d have to caution this is probably a False Flag Event.
That is .. unless you still believe the MSM. Then you´re on your own ..
There are never any pictures of the attack itself, people collapsing and writhing as they die etc. You´d think there would be with the ubiquity of smartphones. There are mostly pictures of (supposedly) dead children usually wrapped in shrouds sometimes with strategically placed teddy bears and children`s toys nearby. I just don´t buy it. These are all the result of Obama´s red line, an effort to engage the US and change the course of the war which is very much in Assad´s favor right now.
Come on guys, it isn´t the fake pink line that Barry worries about, it´s the Bear backing Syria that gives him the vapors. I mean Putin told him to go pound sand, and to get his butt back to Cape Cod where he just irritates Abby-normal Democrats.
By the way, all conversation about the ´Butler´ movie seems to have gone away after 12.5% of the population went to see it the first weekend.
#22 - nail on the head hit! - look no further than the Russian bear´s pawprints all over this, just as they have been on all the world´s crises ever since Stalin´s days. They are expert at planting false flags. We have no reason involving ourselves in Syria, bleeding hearts or not - we have no money,we have no reputation left because Obama has flushed America down the drain repeatedly; the middle easterners must fight their own battles for once. Best thing they can do is kick out Hezbollah, Hamas and AlQaeda and it´s spawn once and for all time.
The Neophyte-In-Chief is also trying to draw a Red Line for us on Obamacare. I feel quite confident in stepping on it, over it and around it. He´s a paper kitty. (I would love to use the other word and I don´t mean tiger)
First of all: I am not buying the Rebel claim of gas attack. Only still pcitures so far. They have done this before, showing dead kids and then in the video, one of the "dead kids" scratched his nose. One picture showed three bodies, one actually looked dead, the other two had more comor than I have. Dead people lose color quick. Not these two - one was even blushing! They supposedly had to bury the dead quickly to "avoid disease"- so no bodies were there when outside kournos showed up to film the massacre. Yet, they have left dozens of actual battle dead above ground for days. It simply makes no sense- then suddenly they revised their death toll from 1,300 to only 300. - It´s another try to gain outside sympathy and get intervention against Assad.
obaMao has no worries. The MSM castrates the GOP daily in his defense or praise, And o only talks for the lo info voters. They have no interest in Syria if they know there is one. Acorn dollars from obaMao spreading the wealth.
Any questions brought up by printing of a random poll--time for another talk. Empty rhetoric to 1/2 the populace and gas from his..., well, talking parts, coming as floating roses to his sycophants.
Most, if not all, foreign Countries have no respect for the Obama Administration. When a Government lies to its own people, can other´s expect anything different. We have a fraudulent, corrupt Administration ridden through and through with scandals and the whole World is aware of it. just my opinion.
SECAUCUS, N.J. -- Forget about setting up those kegs or buffet tables in the parking lot before this season´s Super Bowl at MetLife Stadium. There will be no tailgating, according to the game´s committee CEO, Al Kelly. "You will be allowed to have food in your car and have drink in your car," Kelly said. "And provided you´re in the boundaries of a single parking space, you´ll be able to eat or drink right next to your car. However, you´re not going to be able to take out a lounge chair, you´re not going to be able to take out
One of Congress‘ staunchest critics of Obamacare released a report Monday that cheers on legal challenges to the overhaul and says the White House overstepped its authority by delaying aspects of the law. Sen. Ted Cruz, Texas Republican who helped engineer a lengthy government funding stalemate earlier this year in a bid to block money for the new health care law, said many aspects of the Affordable Care Act are “constitutionally or statutorily suspect” and that the entire law should be repealed. While a repeal is unlikely so long as Democrats control the Senate and White House, Mr. Cruz said
The nation’s new health-care law says insurers can’t turn anyone away, even people who are sick. But some companies, patient advocates say, have found a way to discourage the chronically ill from enrolling in their plans: offer drug coverage too skimpy for those with expensive conditions. Some plans sold on the online insurance exchanges, for instance, don’t cover key medications for HIV, or they require patients to pay as much as 50 percent of the cost per prescription in co-insurance — sometimes more than $1,000 a month. “The fear is that they are putting discriminatory plan designs into place to
There’s nothing like a communal flight with the current president of the United States and his predecessor to make the press miss the days of a communicative commander in chief. George W. and Laura Bush joined the Obamas on Air Force One en route to Johannesburg, South Africa, for a Nelson Mandela memorial service. Hillary Clinton was also on board, with Bill and Chelsea coming to the service from a Clinton Global Initiative event in Rio. The Obamas have stayed in their cabin for the flight, according to the White House pool report from the refueling stop in Senegal, while
The raft of stories over the last week, the latest being today’s piece in Business Insider, about Democratic Party infighting has nicely illustrated something conservatives have known for a while. Complaints over the last few years about the GOP being pulled to the right by conservatives were not about liberals’ desire to meet in the middle and compromise, no matter how much they might decry the supposed extremist drift of the right. What they wanted was their very own Tea Party. It was the same with Occupy Wall Street: the pseudoanarchist gatherings were far more violent than Tea Party protests
The federal government announced today that it has sold the last of its General Motors stock, about 31.1 million shares or 2 percent of the company, ultimately losing about $10.5 billion on the original investment. The government once owned 912 million shares, or 60.8 percent of GM, which it received in return for the $49.5 billion bailout given to the auto manufacturer during the financial crisis of 2008–09. GM’s stock rose about 1.8 percent, or 73 cents, on the news today. GM’s North American president, Mark Reuss, said that he expects GM sales, especially of pickup trucks, to rise once
House and Senate negotiators were putting the finishing touches Sunday on what would be the first successful budget accord since 2011, when the battle over a soaring national debt first paralyzed Washington. The deal expected to be sealed this week on Capitol Hill would not significantly reduce the debt, now $17.3 trillion and rising. It would not close corporate tax loopholes or reform expensive health-care and retirement programs. It would not even fully replace sharp spending cuts known as the sequester, the negotiators’ primary target. After more than two years of constant crisis, the emerging agreement amounts to little more
The sequester, no matter how imperfect a policy, is arguably the only victory for fiscal conservatives in a very long time. Their victory is also president Obama’s biggest defeat (outside of the self-inflicted disastrous Obamacare rollout). It is also another opportunity to remind the American people that the alarmist predictions that we were all subjected to about the devastating impact sequestration would have on our economy didn’t materialize. Yet, in a new move, Republicans are once again considering caving to Democrats and getting rid of the spending cuts. This morning’s Wall Street Journal has the following. Still, officials close to
President Obama’s repeated use of presidential powers is causing a tough problem — his own supporters now expect him to use it to achieve everything they want. From immigration to the minimum wage, congressional Democrats and liberal activists this week urged Mr. Obama to declare an end run around Capitol Hill, assert executive authority and make as much progress as he can on the expansive agenda he laid out for his second term. A day after Mr. Obama denounced income inequality, progressive lawmakers said he should take the lead by issuing an executive order requiring all federal contractors to pay
Three crises, one president, many bewildered friends. The first crisis, barely noticed here, is Ukraine’s sudden turn away from Europe and back to the Russian embrace. After years of negotiations for a major trading agreement with the European Union, Ukraine succumbed to characteristically blunt and brutal economic threats from Russia and abruptly walked away. Ukraine is instead considering joining the Moscow-centered Customs Union with Russia’s fellow dictatorships Belarus and Kazakhstan. This is no trivial matter. Ukraine is not just the largest European country, it’s the linchpin for Vladimir Putin’s dream of a renewed imperial Russia, hegemonic in its neighborhood and
Entering his sophomore year at Occidental College, Barack Obama sought a political movement to match his personal awakening, which he signaled to friends and family at the time by reclaiming his African first name. Barry became Barack that year. He had read Du Bois, Fanon, Malcolm X — an array of authors writing about the black struggle for liberation in his country and in others shaking off the legacy of colonial rule around the world. That is where he looked for — and found — a figure and a cause to channel his rising political enthusiasm: Nelson Mandela, then imprisoned
I´m generally for more disclosure in campaign finance, but the best argument against requiring full disclosure by groups engaged in political speech is that politicians sometimes retaliate against their critics. Sen. Elizabeth Warren inadvertently made that very argument this week. As told by Ben White at Politico, a group called "Third Way" criticized Warren. Warren apparently suspected that Third Way´s criticism of her was funded by banks. So she wrote a letter to bank CEOs demanding they disclose which political groups they´re funding. Warren sits on the Senate Committee on Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs. She´s basically telling the entities
The question all week long was this: Who are you going to believe, an illegal alien or the president of the United States of America? Obviously, if it’s a president who once went by an alias, Barry Soetoro, you go with Uncle Omar, 100 percent, no questions asked. And so it was that the White House finally admitted to another, uh, misstatement — despite previous denials, Barack/Barry did sleep on his beloved Uncle Omar’s couch in Cambridge when he first moved here to attend Harvard Law School (speaking of which, we’re still waiting to see the president’s grades and his LSAT scores). But the
How do you get your arms around the catastrophe known as Obamacare? Is it even possible? At this point, I’m not sure it is. The list of individual disasters which threaten to ruin one-sixth of the U.S. economy and what has been, up until now, the best healthcare system in the world is exhaustive, and exhausting. The examples I will identify here barely scratch the surface. First but by no means foremost, we have the supposedly new and improved HealthCare.gov. Except it’s not, even the visible part. Stories still abound of people still failing to get in or to get through the enrollment
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has announced a new five-year strategic plan to improve safety for elderly drivers and passengers. Although they are statistically among the safest on the road, the number of older drivers is increasing dramatically — and with it, that group´s numbers of injuries and deaths. Since 2003, the population of older adults, defined as age 65 and older, has increased by 20% and the number of licensed older drivers increased by 21% to 35 million in 2012, according to NHTSA. Last year, NHTSA reported that 5,560 people older than 65 died and 214,000 were injured
A veteran Washington adviser who has worked for four Presidents on both sides of the political aisle said that the stunning Government Accountability Report report that found President Barack Obama has not had a one-on-one meeting with Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius since the passage of Obamacare over three years ago is an indictment of the entire White House operation and shows that the Obama administration has bordered on "malfeasance." "I have no doubt the White House is right, that Secretary Sebelius was in several group meetings with the president about health care," Gergen caveated, "but the whole
President Barack Obama’s Facebook page on Saturday posted a message honoring the dead from Pearl Harbor—accompanied by a picture of Obama descending the stairs next to the Pearl Harbor Memorial. The picture barely fits the name of the Arizona Memorial so it can frame Obama in the foreground. The post´s statement reads: Today, with solemn pride and reverence, let us remember those who fought and died at Pearl Harbor, acknowledge everyone who carried their legacy forward, and reaffirm our commitment to upholding the ideals for which they served. President Obama The Obama Administration´s current shipbuilding plan shrinks the size of
Barack Obama did not tell the whole story this autumn when he tried to make the case that Bashar al-Assad was responsible for the chemical weapons attack near Damascus on 21 August. In some instances, he omitted important intelligence, and in others he presented assumptions as facts. Most significant, he failed to acknowledge something known to the US intelligence community: that the Syrian army is not the only party in the country’s civil war with access to sarin, the nerve agent that a UN study concluded – without assessing responsibility – had been used in the rocket attack. In the months before the attack,
Dr. Ezekiel Emanuel, the hapless, goalpost-shifting so-called "architect" of Obamacare, told Fox News´ Chris Wallace on Fox News Sunday that President Barack Obama´s promise "if you like your doctor, you can keep your doctor" was absolutely true--with one important caveat: if you like your doctor, "you can pay for it." Wallace grilled Dr. Emanuel, challenging his false claims that California´s enrollment was keeping pace with the percentage of the young population necessary to keep the system afloat, and pointing out that the president´s promise on doctors would collapse once people lost their insurance or their
Just how much do many Hollywood liberals hate conservatives? In an interview with Playboy, Ben Affleck said, "When I watch a guy [on film] I know is a big Republican, part of me thinks, I probably wouldn’t like this person if I met him": PLAYBOY: You developed a political profile campaigning for presidential candidates Al Gore, John Kerry and Barack Obama. How did that come about? AFFLECK: I grew up in a house with a mother who was a teacher and a Freedom Rider—very left-wing Democrats living in a heterogeneous working-class neighborhood. I picked up a lot of those values there, and I
The U.S. isn´t called "America the Beautiful" for nothing. Each year, millions of tourists come from home and abroad to see the country´s majestic landscape and iconic sites, from the Grand Canyon to the Statue of Liberty. But there are also cool, quirky attractions, like Vermont´s Ben & Jerry´s Factory and Tennessee´s Graceland, the former home of Rock and Roll King Elvis Presley. From California to New York and everywhere in between, the country is chock-full of incredible attractions that keep luring in visitors. Here are the best tourist attractions in every state.
MSNBC host Melissa Harris-Perry opened her program over the weekend with a commentary about the Affordable Care Act’s colloquial moniker: “Obamacare.” She said that the word was originally created as a “derogatory term,” designed by white men as a way to delegitimize President Barack Obama and his achievement. However, she said that the term will soon be synonymous with all of Obama’s accomplishments and she urged her audience to use the term with pride. “I want to talk today about a controversial word. It’s a word that has been with us for years, and like it or not, it’s indelibly
Call me Grinch, call me Scrooge. Call me Lord Voldemort of the Yuletide. None could be worse than sending me a holiday card with glossy photographs of your lovely, smiling family. My wife, Emily, and I place your cards like trophies on our shelves, continuing an old-school practice that began about 175 years ago as a way of maintaining relationships as families and friends moved far and wide. Today’s cards may appear more personalized — with photos of spouses, kids and pets, and distribution lists much smaller than a sprawling collection of Facebook friends. But when I flip over the photo
Chris Matthews is crazy. Nevertheless, when left-wingers talk openly with one another, their craziness can be revealing. That is the case, I think, with this remarkable MSNBC clip. Matthews, fresh from his kneepad interview with President Obama, praises what he terms a uniquely brilliant insight by Al Sharpton: South Africa’s white politicians of the apartheid era were more patriotic than today’s Republicans: I haven’t heard anything as smart as what I heard Reverend Sharpton say a moment go in five years. The difference between the way F.W. de Klerk handled the need for change and the election – democratic election
