Who owns the future?
Human Events, by Patrick J. Buchanan

In the near term, bet on the men with the guns. The Egyptian Army, being slowly squeezed out of its central role in the nation’s life by Mohammed Morsi, waited for the moment to oust the elected president and crush his Muslim Brotherhood. Morsi was deposed and arrested, and the Brotherhood leaders rounded up and jailed. Their Cairo encampments were cleansed by gunfire. Hundreds of brothers were cut down and killed, and thousands wounded. Gen. Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, gazing into his mirror, must see Col. Gamal Abdel Nasser gazing back. In the near term, the Brotherhood is in disarray. It

Ouch. Pat nails it, but it hurts. The solution to this dilemma as I see it is to segregate the Muslim and Judeo-Christian worlds. US out of the Middle East; Middle-Easterners (those who adhere to strict Muslim values and refuse to assimilate into our culture) out of the US. Stop the student visas - we need to quit educating our enemies. With shale oil and fracking, we don´t need Middle East oil anymore. The Balkanization of the US is cultural suicide. Time for a modified Monroe Doctrine.

The solution is simple:

Closing the universities for a

The MusBros are a malevolent fanatical force reminiscent of the Nazis and bent on world conquest. We should fight them now or we will have to fight them later when the outcome will be much less predictable. We don´t actually have to send troops over there but we should at least back those who are already fighting them. Forget democratizing or westernizing the Middle East. Concentrate on defeating Islamism. We are quite possibly in the opening struggles of WWIII.

Is the Republican Party’s Middle East policy up for bid? For four days ending Sunday, a quartet of presidential hopefuls trooped to Las Vegas to attend the annual gathering of the Republican Jewish Coalition. Impresario: Sheldon Adelson, the Vegas-Macau casino mogul whose fortune is estimated at $39 billion — 8th richest man on the planet — and who dumped $92 million into the election of 2012. Adelson kept Newt Gingrich alive with a $15 million infusion of ad money, gutting Romney, and then sank $30 million into Mitt’s campaign. This time Sheldon wants to buy himself a winner. In the early 2016 Republican presidential sweepstakes, could former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush be the beneficiary of New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie´s recent stumbles? That´s the question a number of analysts are starting to ask as Christie, formerly a clear favorite of the GOP establishment, starts to lose his luster, tarnished by months of critical headlines about the George Washington Bridge traffic scandal in New Jersey. I sense a boomlet about Jeb Bush is all about Chris Christie," said Harvard University´s David Gergen Sunday on CBS´ "Face the Nation." Vladimir Putin seems to have lost touch with reality, Angela Merkel reportedly told Barack Obama after speaking with the Russian president. He is “in another world.” “I agree with what Angela Merkel said … that he is in another world,” said Madeleine Albright, “It doesn’t make any sense.” John Kerry made his contribution to the bonkers theory by implying that Putin was channeling Napoleon: “You don’t just, in the 21st century, behave in 19th century fashion by invading another country on a completely trumped-up pretext.” Now that Putin has taken Crimea without firing a shot, and 95 percent of a Crimean electorate voted

Marco Rubio is smack in the middle of the current polls for the 2016 presidential primary. But he may be the early frontrunner when it comes to offering a realistic conservative agenda for reforms that address the economic challenges of modern America. And whether or not he pulls the trigger on a White House run, the U.S. senator from Florida is already helping to refashion the GOP once again into the Party of Ideas. In a series of smart domestic-policy speeches this year, Rubio has generally avoided the easy, reflexive response as to what’s gone terribly wrong with the American

What has been happening in Ukraine is not a wake-up call precisely but a tugging at the attention, a demand to focus. There´s a sense that in some new way we are watching the 21st century take its shape and express its central realities. Exactly 100 years ago, in August 1914, the facts that would shape the 20th century gathered and emerged in the Great War. History doesn´t repeat itself; you can´t, as they say, step into the same stream twice. But it does have an unseen circularity. Sept. 11 started the century and brought forward the face of terrorism. MADISON, Wis. – Investigators in Wisconsin say a home invasion in which a man was severely beaten and his pregnant wife was repeatedly sexually assaulted stemmed from a mistake. Madison police say the attack was spurred by a neighbor´s girlfriend, who hoped to have him robbed. But the suspects instead stumbled into the wrong home in an affluent Madison neighborhood. A criminal complaint filed Tuesday says the suspects beat the man who lived there with a handgun and assaulted his wife, who was six months pregnant. Both were hospitalized. With Vladimir Putin’s dispatch of Russian troops into Crimea, our war hawks are breathing fire. Russophobia is rampant and the op-ed pages are ablaze here. Barack Obama should tune them out, and reflect on how Cold War presidents dealt with far graver clashes with Moscow. When Red Army tank divisions crushed the Hungarian freedom fighters in 1956, killing 50,000, Eisenhower did not lift a finger. When Khrushchev built the Berlin Wall, JFK went to Berlin and gave a speech. When Warsaw Pact troops crushed the Prague Spring in 1968, LBJ did nothing. When, Moscow ordered Gen. If Jeb Bush runs for the Republican presidential nomination, he may face pushback from the tea party — and not just for the reasons you might expect. With Chris Christie faltering, the former Florida governor is reportedly calling major donors to discuss a possible presidential run. But tea party leaders, both nationally and in Florida, tell The Daily Caller that Bush would have trouble getting their support because of his strong backing of Common Core. California Republican Rep. Darrell Issa’s House Oversight and Government Reform Committee has recalled embattled former IRS exempt organizations division head Lois Lerner to testify on Capitol Hill Wednesday. Lerner’s apology for improperly scrutinizing and harassing conservative groups applying for non-profit status kicked off the IRS targeting scandal ten months ago, and Lerner has been stonewalling ever since (famously trying to invoke the Fifth Amendment the last time she testified but failing because she made a statement attesting to her innocence first). Her lawyer said she intends to “continue to assert her Fifth Amendment rights.” Since she already waived them, Issa

The constant mischief of the progressive left is hurting the nation´s morale. There are few areas of national life left in which they are not busy, and few in which they´re not making it worse. There are always more regulations, fees and fiats, always more cultural pressure and insistence. The president brags he has a pen and a phone. He uses the former to sign executive orders. In a move sure to reignite the IRS scandal that rocked the agency and the Obama administration last Spring, House Oversight Committee chairman Darrell Issa is recalling disgraced IRS official Lois Lerner to a March 5 hearing, demanding that she resume her testimony before his panel. In late May, Lerner delivered an opening statement to Issa’s committee before invoking her Fifth Amendment right against self-incrimination. The panel later voted that, in making that statement, in which Lerner declared she had done nothing wrong, the former head of the IRS’s Exempt Organizations division had waived her Fifth Amendment rights.

I have no objections to Jeb Bush running for president. He obviously has a wide appeal as a potential candidate. (Snip) His support of Common Core, however, will also find many who are in the conservative ranks objecting, since they fear that Common Core represents educational centralism and having the government ram federal standards down their throats. What I do object to is that Bush is already being heralded as the obvious candidate, the man to whom the big money must and will flow. Obamacare, the plan purportedly created to provide health coverage for the uninsured, has enrolled just 1.7% of America´s 48.6 million uninsured. News of the disastrous numbers comes as nervous Democrats and President Barack Obama, ahead of the November midterm elections, did their best on Monday´s enrollment deadline to put a positive spin on the deeply unpopular Obamacare program. A few months back, HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius stated for the record that 7 million Obamacare sign-ups by the end of March would constitute success. She was clear about it. But then February came, and February always stinks. It’s just a lousy month. You’re tired of winter, you’re still miles away from spring, and no one was signing up for Obamacare. That 7 million figure looked totally unreachable. So Sebelius does what every other member of the Obama administration does when confronted with inconvenient facts. She lied. A National Labor Relations Board official has given the green light to Northwestern University football players to form a union. The March 26 decision by the NLRB´s Chicago regional director, Peter Sung Ohr, held that scholarship football players are "employees" for purposes of federal labor law. Ohr rejected the longstanding view of Northwestern and the National Collegiate Athletic Association that players are "student-athletes" rather than employees. Drinking Earl Grey tea could help guard against heart disease, it has emerged, after a study found that bergamot extract--a key ingredient in the hot drink--is just as effective as statins at controlling cholesterol. Scientists believe bergamot, a fragrant Mediterranean citrus fruit which gives Earl Grey tea its distinctive flavour, can significantly lower cholesterol. They say it contains enzymes known as HMGF (hydroxy methyl glutaryl flavonones) which can attack proteins in the body known to cause heart disease. The study found bergamot could even be as effective as statins, used to control cholesterol but which can have side effects in

A RAND study pours buckets of cold water on the Obama administration’s claims that it has nearly reached 7 million sign-ups for Obamacare. The whole point of Obamacare, supposedly, was to insure the uninsured and bend the cost curve down. Those who had insurance were supposed to be able to keep it. Families were supposed to start saving about $2500 a year. If you believed the Obama administration. Reality, according to RAND‘s study, is that the Obama administration’s 7 million figure is deceptive. Supposing 7 million have actually signed up and paid their first premium — which is not a given,
