The attack on Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) has begun. Fearful of Cruz as a prospective Republican presidential nominee in 2016, the media is now digging into his past, all the way back to birth. The Daily Beast ran a profile on Monday with this headline: “Ted Cruz at Princeton: Creepy, Sometimes Well Liked, and Exactly the Same.” The hit piece questions whether “master debater who wore a paisley bathrobe to creepily stroll by the women’s wing of the dorm [can] be the next president.” The piece quotes one of Cruz’s former classmates, Craig Mazin, stating, “I remember very specifically that
In 1961, Kenya was a british colony. Therefore, Barack Obama, no matter where he was born, was, as the son of a Kenyan, a british citizen, thus holding U.S. and British dual citizen. But I am shocked that the leftist media types are able to find out so much about a college lad at Princeton, including the color of his bathrobe, but cannot find out anything or anyone who knew Barack at Occidental, Columbia, or elsewhere. No one at Columbia ever remembers having a class with barack. Most amazing!
Ted Cruz WAS born in Canada and is thus ineligible to serve as a U.S. president by virtue of the constitution. As his name is continually bandied about as a good GOP candidate for president, I have to wonder why this is so difficult for so many people to understand? We would need to amend the constitution for this man to be eligible to hold the office. Or is the GOP now post-constitutional?
#2 that is not absolutely clear. The constitution says that the candidate must be a ´natural born citizen´, meaning certainly that he/she cannot have applied for citizenship, but McCain had the same issue - he was born in Panama. He was not deemed as ineligible because his parents were Americans who happened to be living in Panama. Both he and Ted Cruz have been American citizens since birth.
It is pretty obvious to me that the MSM and some establishment Republicans are really afraid of Sen. Cruz. He is the new voice. They did the same thing to Sarah Palin. They did not touch Barack Hussain Obama.
The idiots in LSM seem to forget that Cruz is a brilliant debator (NOT a TOTUS reader) interned with the Supreme Court Chief Justice Rehnquist and was the Solicitor general of Texas. AND, he successfully argued cases in the Supreme Court.
#4 - American citizenship by itself is not enough. There are millions of citizens who are not ´natural born´, born on US soil or sovereign territory (Goldwater, Arizona Terr, 1909) of T-W-O citizen parents. Anchor babies, born here but to non-citizen parents, are granted citizenship. They are ´native born´ (by, FWIW IMHO, a poor interpretation of the 14th Amendment - see Jindal, Rubio - yes, they are glorified anchor babies). Native born status, an American citizen, also if only one parent is a citizen (Obama, though his mother´s age may be a factor - let alone who his real daddy is). Cruz has the additional burden of being born in Alberta, Canada.
American citizenship, in and of itself, is not enough...and only the President and VP have to meet the additional hurdle of being ´natural born´ to hold federal office.
He´s the real deal, and he´s from a HUGE Red State... the Biggest Red State of all.
Sorry to all the Rick Perry fans there and elsewhere... But Perry became mostly a punchline who is unlikely to get anywhere nationally...
With the background Cruz has both academically and professionally... He´s a major league threat to the DimWitz plans for their favorite DimWitch...
What they really hate most is that many conservatives already love Cruz... and Rubio is basically already finished. If Cruz is smart, he won´t want Rubio on his ticket... Why share the limelight with a prom king pretty boy who is media-spoiled? And Rubio is just a RINO, as we´ve learned, and thinks his refried beans don´t stink. And you don´t want two "white Hispanics" on the same national ticket.
Allow me to shock you by saying I´d like to see a ticket combining Romney and Cruz, in either order. If Cruz is the prez nominee, his best pick for veep is the reigning elder statesman of the GOP, who will be a very youthful 69 years old, is more fully vetted than any other guy, and is great at debates and campaigning.
And Romney could thus be elected VP without having to go through all the cattle shows and campaign nonsense of the early part of the cycle, which he wants to avoid ever doing again. And Romney is a financial genius who as VP can greatly help a Prez Cruz.
I like Cruz-Romney as the winner for 2016.
My only complaint about Romney is that he didn´t beat the Shxt out of George S. Stephie Stepinalloverus for the snarky questions in the January 2012 GOP debate. That is who the "Bully" Romney should have assaulted... on national TV!
I haven´t seen evidence that anyone has it in for Ted Cruz. Some think he´s overambitious, some don´t like Texans in general, some on these threads want to render him ineligible, but none of that means anything at all except people have differing opinions of him. That´s allowed, you know. And what in the world does Karl Rove have to do with it? Perhaps there is a touch of RDS in some posts?
It´s a dumb argument to try to establish that Ted Cruz is not a natural born American. Otherwise you would have to conclude that millions of American citizens born while their parents were working outside the United States are not natural born. By the way, John McCain was not born in the military hospital in Panama.
It would be interesting to know why our esteemed media could not crack the seal on Obama´s college records. We might find out that he attended Occidental and Columbia as a foreign born student. Or we might find out he attended as an American citizen.
Why did Obama have his attorneys seal so many of his records? We might even find out why he and Michelle surrendered their Illinois attorney´s licenses.
What´s that comment that indicates hear a false idea enough and it becomes truth? Read the explanation of native or natural born American citizen yourself instead of repeating assumptions. US law does/did not follow the British line that citizenship comes from the father ( blood line). Just as native born could mean original American Indians only Natural born can mean anything. Natural born in the US Constitution means that citizen is American from birth and not by an act of the courts. That citizen needs only one American citizen parent --surprise that includes a mother. British law didn´t include women as citizens. They were collateral. The right to choose in a duel situation is at age 18.America didn´t recognize duel citizenship therefore that is moot. All people residing on American soil became natural citizens with the signing of the Constitution therefore the notation in the that declaration at that specific time.
FTA:Creepy,´ ´Abrasive,´ That is what the left tried to pin on Mitt Romney?... and George Bush before him? Creepy and abrasive is exactly what the very weird Won is, and even more creepy was Axelrod, Janet the skunk haired person who is over Homeland Security is another, and than there is creepy Hillary, lets not forget the funeral home mortician Harry Reid, my lord the left have so many creepy looking freaks its hard to name just a few.
FTA: "Four independently offered the word ‘creepy,’ with some pointing to Cruz’s habit of donning a paisley bathrobe and walking to the opposite end of their dorm’s hallway where the female students lived.”
Yep. Well, that does it - that´s the argument that disqualifies him. It´s the bathrobe. Much too mature and modest. Definitely ´creepy´. That paisley pattern must have really left an indelible impression on their juvenile minds.
All of the "cool guys" were probably running up and down the hall leaving no doubt as to whether they wore boxers or briefs. That´s the must know answer to the burning question of all the coolest girls, doncha know?
Anyone who ever wore a paisley bathrobe at university should probably never be POTUS.
NASA’s steady reconnaissance of Mars with the Curiosity rover has produced another major discovery: evidence of an ancient lake — with water that could plausibly be described as drinkable — that was part of a long-standing, wet environment that could have supported simple forms of life. Scientists have known that the young Mars was more Earthlike than the desert planet we see today, but this is the best evidence yet that Mars had swimming holes that stuck around for thousands or perhaps millions of years. (It would have been very chilly — bring a wet suit.) The findings were being
JOHANNESBURG — President Obama, his predecessor, and the woman who might be his successor crossed the Atlantic together Monday in an example of extended bipartisan togetherness to pay tribute to Nelson Mandela at a memorial service Tuesday. For more than 16 hours, Mr. Obama hosted former President George W. Bush and former Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton aboard Air Force One — part of a global pilgrimage that is expected to bring as many as 100 world leaders to South Africa. (Snip) On board the presidential aircraft as it flew to South Africa, White House aides said Mr. Obama
Today Politico´s Dylan Byers got tough on MSNBC with two posts calling into question the channel´s journalistic credibility. Byers started the day by going after MSNBC host Melissa Harris-Perry for something she said over the weekend. Harris-Perry claimed Sunday that the term Obamacare was an attempt by white people to denigrate a black President. Byers pointed out that "Hillarycare" and "Reaganomics" seem like similar appellations and asked, in light of these, how "Obamacare" could be implicitly racist while the other terms are not. It´s not clear whether Harris-Perry responded to Byers´ challenge privately but she did not tweet (or anything
World leaders have gathered in Johannesburg to pay tribute to Nelson Mandela at a memorial service for the former president of South Africa, five days after he died at the age of 95. Barack Obama was pictured arriving after a 17-hour flight from Washington on board Air Force One, during which he rode with his wife Michelle, former President George W. Bush, Laura Bush, and Hillary Clinton. He has been given a prominent role in the memorial service for former South African president Nelson Mandela - but may face awkward moments if he comes face to face with controversial leaders
Jim Murray, an English writer and one of the world’s top whiskey critics, believes Scottish malt is no match for American whiskey. “Generally speaking, bourbon … has overtaken Scotch,” he said, according to the Telegraph. Mr. Murray, who wrote “Jim Murray’s Whisky Bible,” argues that Scotland’s decrease in quality whiskey is due to the use of sulphur candles to sanitize some barrels that have been used to age sherry, giving it a “bitter finish.” Bourbon, however, is aged in virgin oak casks, which do not require sulphur treatment, the Telegraph said. “The best whiskey is coming not from Scotland any
Brothers Tryon, 19, and Tyshaune Kincade, 18, were formally charged Monday in the shooting death of Sergent First Class Jim Vester, 32, after arranging to sell the 12-year military veteran an iPad on Wednesday. According to phone records released by the police, the Indianapolis father wanted to buy an iPad from the brothers as a Christmas present for his parents based off of their Craigslist ad. At 3:05pm, Vester texted: ´Can I get your address´. At 3:14pm, the suspects texted him to meet at 920 Wyckford Dr. Vester arrived at the address at 3:49pm and texted: ´are you here?´ and the
Andrea Elliott, in her NY Times article "Invisible Child," articulates the disheartening existence of a family living on the meager support of government welfare. She invites her readers to look through the eyes of Dasani, the family´s 11-year-old girl. The family has a complex relationship with the welfare programs that both keep them afloat and keep their situation hopeless. Liberals advocate that welfare programs are designed to help the least fortunate and that they demonstrate a society’s compassion. However, sometimes too much compassion by the state can devolve into what recovering drug addicts would call "enabling." Moreover, the "compassionate environment"
MSNBC’s Melissa Harris-Perry evidently exists to say ridiculous things. The same radical who declared that all children belong to the state said Sunday that “Obamacare” is the new “n-word.” (Video) “Good morning, I’m Melissa Harris-Perry. I want to talk today about a controversial word,” the Tulane professor began Sunday’s show. “It’s a word that has been with us for years. And like it or not, it’s indelibly printed in the pages of American history. A word that was originally intended as a derogatory term, meant to shame, and divide, and demean. The word was conceived of by a group of
The world´s leading technology companies have united to demand sweeping changes to US surveillance laws, urging an international ban on bulk collection of data to help preserve the public´s “trust in the internet”. In their most concerted response yet to disclosures by the National Security Agency whistleblower Edward Snowden, Apple, Google, Microsoft, Facebook, Yahoo, LinkedIn, Twitter and AOL have published an open letter to Barack Obama and Congress on Monday, throwing their weight behind radical reforms already proposed by Washington politicians. “The balance in many countries has tipped too far in favour of the state and away from the rights of
Rep. Steve Stockman, a conservative firebrand who has been dogged by ethical questions and campaign debt, withdrew as a candidate for re-election Monday and instead filed as a Republican challenger to U.S. Sen. John Cornyn. The filing gives Cornyn the Tea Party challenge in the Texas Republican primary that he long sought to avoid in a state where the GOP electorate has moved increasingly to the right. Stockman has prided himself on being one of the most conservative members of Congress. Soon after arriving, he refused to suport Rep. John Boehner for Speaker of the House, voting only “present.” He
Power Abuse: Emboldened by its shakedown of mortgage lenders, the administration is now accusing car lenders of racism. On what grounds? It refuses to say, raising suspicion of another witch hunt. Some of the nation´s largest auto lenders, including Ally Bank, are now under federal investigation for allegedly discriminating against black and Latino borrowers — a deplorable crime, if true. The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau is heading the new crusade with help from the Justice Department. It claims it has "statistical evidence" showing car lenders and dealers marking up loan prices for minorities vs. whites.
DETROIT- The U.S. government ended up losing $10.5 billion on the General Motors bailout, but it says the alternative would have been far worse. The Treasury Department sold its final shares of the Detroit auto giant on Monday, recovering $39 billion of the $49.5 billion it spent to save the dying automaker at the height of the financial crisis five years ago. Without the bailout, the country would have lost more than a million jobs, and the economy could have slipped from recession into a depression, Treasury Secretary Jacob Lew said on a conference call with reporters. Now, the American
A veteran Washington adviser who has worked for four Presidents on both sides of the political aisle said that the stunning Government Accountability Report report that found President Barack Obama has not had a one-on-one meeting with Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius since the passage of Obamacare over three years ago is an indictment of the entire White House operation and shows that the Obama administration has bordered on "malfeasance." "I have no doubt the White House is right, that Secretary Sebelius was in several group meetings with the president about health care," Gergen caveated, "but the whole
President Barack Obama’s Facebook page on Saturday posted a message honoring the dead from Pearl Harbor—accompanied by a picture of Obama descending the stairs next to the Pearl Harbor Memorial. The picture barely fits the name of the Arizona Memorial so it can frame Obama in the foreground. The post´s statement reads: Today, with solemn pride and reverence, let us remember those who fought and died at Pearl Harbor, acknowledge everyone who carried their legacy forward, and reaffirm our commitment to upholding the ideals for which they served. President Obama The Obama Administration´s current shipbuilding plan shrinks the size of
Dr. Ezekiel Emanuel, the hapless, goalpost-shifting so-called "architect" of Obamacare, told Fox News´ Chris Wallace on Fox News Sunday that President Barack Obama´s promise "if you like your doctor, you can keep your doctor" was absolutely true--with one important caveat: if you like your doctor, "you can pay for it." Wallace grilled Dr. Emanuel, challenging his false claims that California´s enrollment was keeping pace with the percentage of the young population necessary to keep the system afloat, and pointing out that the president´s promise on doctors would collapse once people lost their insurance or their
Just how much do many Hollywood liberals hate conservatives? In an interview with Playboy, Ben Affleck said, "When I watch a guy [on film] I know is a big Republican, part of me thinks, I probably wouldn’t like this person if I met him": PLAYBOY: You developed a political profile campaigning for presidential candidates Al Gore, John Kerry and Barack Obama. How did that come about? AFFLECK: I grew up in a house with a mother who was a teacher and a Freedom Rider—very left-wing Democrats living in a heterogeneous working-class neighborhood. I picked up a lot of those values there, and I
The U.S. isn´t called "America the Beautiful" for nothing. Each year, millions of tourists come from home and abroad to see the country´s majestic landscape and iconic sites, from the Grand Canyon to the Statue of Liberty. But there are also cool, quirky attractions, like Vermont´s Ben & Jerry´s Factory and Tennessee´s Graceland, the former home of Rock and Roll King Elvis Presley. From California to New York and everywhere in between, the country is chock-full of incredible attractions that keep luring in visitors. Here are the best tourist attractions in every state.
MSNBC host Melissa Harris-Perry opened her program over the weekend with a commentary about the Affordable Care Act’s colloquial moniker: “Obamacare.” She said that the word was originally created as a “derogatory term,” designed by white men as a way to delegitimize President Barack Obama and his achievement. However, she said that the term will soon be synonymous with all of Obama’s accomplishments and she urged her audience to use the term with pride. “I want to talk today about a controversial word. It’s a word that has been with us for years, and like it or not, it’s indelibly
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu made a last minute decision not to participate in a memorial service for the late South African President Nelson Mandela, despite having notified the South African government that he would attend the event. The decision was made in light of the high transportation costs resulting from the short notice of the trip and the security required for the prime minister in Johannesburg. The Prime Minister’s Office found that the trip would have cost roughly 7 million shekels ($2.4 million) – 2.8 million shekels for chartering a private El Al plane and a further 3.2 million shekels for
President Obama, former president George W. Bush and their wives departed Washington Monday morning on Air Force One on their way to a memorial service in South Africa for Nelson Mandela. The president and first lady Michelle Obama are being accompanied by Mr. Bush, former first lady Laura Bush and former Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton on the flight to Johannesburg. A four-hour memorial service will be held on Tuesday for South Africa’s first black president. Mr. Mandela, the anti-apartheid revolutionary, died on Thursday at age 95. Former President Bill Clinton and daughter Chelsea are traveling separately to South Africa. Former President
President Obama will make remarks on Nelson Mandela´s legacy during a memorial service Tuesday for the late South African freedom fighter, officials said Monday. "We do expect President Obama to speak as part of the program," said Ben Rhodes, deputy national security adviser for strategic communications. The president and first lady Michelle Obama departed Monday for Johannesburg, where a Mandela memorial service will be held in a soccer stadium. Obama, who will also spend time with the Mandela family, is not scheduled to hold any bilateral meetings with foreign leaders while in South Africa, Rhodes said. Rhodes also said the
All three networks on Monday morning highlighted the appearance of the Obamas at the Kennedy Center Honors, but only ABC fawned over "fashion win" of First Lady. Lara Spencer enthused that " one of the stars of the show was Michelle Obama." An excited Spencer explained that Mrs. Obama looked "absolutely ravishing in a flowing teal gown as she accompanied President Obama." The co-host declared, "Another big fashion win for the First Lady. CBS This Morning offered a full report on the various performers who were honored, but co-anchor Charlie Rose avoided ABC´s superlatives.
IN 2011, the British historian Stephen Ellis published a paper concluding that Nelson Mandela had been a member of the South African Communist Party — indeed, a member of its governing Central Committee. Although Mandela’s African National Congress and the Communist Party were openly allied against apartheid, Mandela and the A.N.C. have always denied that the hero of South Africa’s liberation was himself a party member. But Ellis, drawing on testimony of former party members and newly available archives, made a convincing case that Mandela joined the party around 1960, several years before he was
An Iraq veteran who thought he was buying an iPad as a Christmas present after responding to a Craigslist posting, has been shot dead in an Indianapolis parking lot by the fake sellers. New-dad Jim Vester, 32, was lured to an address on Wednesday in the west side of the city and brothers Tyron Kincade, 19, and Tyshaune Kincade, 18, have been arrested after Vester was shot dead leaving behind his one-year-old son, Gavin and wife, Jamie.
