East of Suez
PJ Media, by Richard Fernandez

Terry Atlas, writing in Bloomberg says that Egypt highlights the disintegration of the US coalition in the Middle East and the collapse of its influence in the region. (Snip) They gave the green light to everybody and whoopee. The pileup caused by Washington is predictably being sold as a feature. “U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry has tried to harness polarization among U.S. allies to advance mediation.” Translation: the train wreck is intentional and we’re all just too stupid to understand how brilliant it is. John McCain, who was treated like dirt in Cairo, has fewer illusions. He said the

Comments:
If the Administration´s ineptitude in foreign policy weren´t so tragic, it would almost be funny. With Obama and Kerry´s (aa well as the equally ham-handed Hillary before) unerring instinct to do the wrong thing, every time, one might be forgiven for concluding that we´re being deliberately misgoverned and misled in more ways than one.

Foreign Policy is an afterthought for this administration. Wednesday´s cocktail party, that´s important. What hors d´ouevres are we serving. Did you hear Egypt´s a mess. Have Susan Rice and a few of the gang brainstorm on it. Clarity is like transparency, it never existed with Obama.

Obviously the Gulf countries East of Suez do not trust Obama and believe that if he gets his way that the USA military will keep retreating out of that region.

I was reading that those countries are asking, and are willing to pay for the British military to return to those countries, and permanently base combat troops and air power in the region. It looks like they are seeking long-term insurance.

This is so alarming, I really do not know what to think any more. Fernandez tells it like it is and it is not just bad; it is bad like Pearl Harbor bad. But, this time, we have a bunch of complete losers running the country and to them, ´bad´ is a coctail sauce that does not go with the particular shrimp they are serving at lunch. Øbama is oblivious if not deliberately destructive! Kerry is worse than stupid. Holder is so contemptuous he is worse than a Mafia henchman, Congress is not just paralytic, they are brain dead - both Republicans and Democrats! Can it even be possible we have 100 men and women serving in our Senate who are so owned individually not 51% can raise the alarm and come to the aid of this country? Is it possible, a man who rose to power through service, Harry Reid, is so owned, he can´t escape from his Party masters enought to serve his country? My God- how can this be happening to us?

We truly have received the whirlwind.

Activists press Duke Energy

ST. PETERSBURG — Nearly 100 environmental activists rallied Wednesday on the southeast corner of Williams Park, directly across the street from the company they were protesting: Duke Energy. The event was a collaboration among numerous groups, including the Sierra Club and Awake Pinellas. The alliance calls itself the Sunshine State Clean Energy Coalition. With more than 5,000 petitions calling for Duke to invest more in clean energy, they accused the utility of dragging its feet on alternative energy since it took over in Pinellas County and other parts of the state. “Use the power of the sun,” Sierra Club spokesman

After criticizing President Obama throughout his second term, I´ve reversed course and decided that he´s a tremendous leader, one of the greatest presidents in U.S. history. Perfection is too high of a bar to set for any man, or any president, but Obama has come close to clearing it. What stands between this president and Mount Rushmore? Republicans—specifically, the stubborn extremists who control the House under the weak leadership of Speaker John Boehner. Gridlock, hyper-partisanship, and ineffective governance, those traits that make Washington so unpopular with voters, are singularly the fault of the GOP. It is not Obama´s fault; none

It must be one of the most exclusive clubs on earth. Wikipedia lists five people who have fallen from airplanes without parachutes and survived. Each is a proof that unlikely events happen. (Snip) We think we lead ordinary lives, but as someone observed humanity’s existence itself is so improbable as to be ludicrous, a circumstance summarized as the anthropic principle. Perhaps the world is not only stranger than we think, but stranger than we can know. There’s an old joke told among petty criminals in Manila, where suspects are routinely intimidated by the cops till they confess. (Snip) The pro-life demonstrators holding up their poster can be forgiven for thinking they were still in America. After all they had crossed no marked boundaries. So they thought it was alright to peaceably assemble. But in reality they had wandered into the precincts of some strange tribe where such things are not tolerated; a kind of Twilight Zone; a place governed by mysterious customs, prey to obscure taboos and worshipping some monstrous, unnamed idol. Everything was different there.

Carlota Gall of the New York Times describes what — if true — must be the biggest cover up in of all of the Obama administration’s checkered history. Her article is titled “What Pakistan Knew About Bin Laden”. But it is really about what the Obama administration knew that Pakistan knew about Bin Laden. The answer, as far as she can tell is that Washington knows for a fact that Osama bin Laden was Pakistan’s creature. They know it was Pakistan — or factions within it — that ran the whole war on terror. But, she writes, the Obama administration

Talk about a fateful trade. In 1954, Jackson Pollock gave two of his paintings to New York art dealer Martha Jackson in exchange for her sporty green convertible. Two years later, on a hot August evening after a day of drinking gin, Pollock crashed that same Oldsmobile 88 less than a mile from his home on New York´s Long Island, killing himself and a friend of his mistress. He was 44 years old. The mistress, Ruth Kligman, was also in the car but survived. Years later she wrote in a memoir that Pollock had been "speeding wildly" and missed a

Is Barack Obama simply too busy to be Chief Executive of the United States? Apparently. One of the primary functions of the president is to keep the nation safe, to preserve it from its enemies. To do that effectively, one would actually have to maintain something of a consistent level of attention to the moving pieces that directly influence how future events will unfold. None other than the truly sycophantic thinks for a second that President Obama cares a whit for anything that does not involve fundamentally altering the social composition of this country. Or golf. Back when Reagan ran things, we didn’t blather about sanctions against Russia. We used clandestine methods to sabotage its natural gas exports and other key functions. The largest non-nuclear man-made explosion in history, the 1982 Russian natural gas pipeline disaster, was one of the results. A mastermind of this well-documented operation (and some other yet-to-be-documented operations) was the director of planning at the National Security Council under Richard Allen and William Clark, Dr. Norman A. Bailey, who held the title of special assistant to the president. Bailey employed a small team of contractors to obtain intelligence on areas of interest,

Yet in the midst of this, the administration has the effrontery to claim that they can discount “concerns that Russia might undermine the Iran nuclear talks.” It’s like they are living on another planet. In such cases, concern for animal rights seems to be a rather thin veneer for other political objectives that have far more to do with intolerant ideologies than they do with protecting animals. In the United States, animal-rights activism has found other pet causes but, at its core, activists seem less interested in protecting animals than in broader political agendas.
