Militants execute 25
Egyptian police in Sinai ambush

CAIRO — At least 25 policemen were killed Monday when assailants ambushed two minibuses carrying security personnel in Egypt´s north Sinai Peninsula, which shares a border with Israel and the Gaza Strip and has been a restive center for militant activity. The attack is among the deadliest in the peninsula since the 2011 overthrow of former president Hosni Mubarak and part of a larger backlash against the state over what militants view as a slew of injustices. "What I can say about the future is that violence will not disappear anytime soon," said Egypt expert Khalil Al-Anani. "We should expect

Egypt is Egypt ~ currently the Moslems are the dominant group and have been for quite some time, but not as long as the Pharonic system and their religion.

I would expect the Egyptian Army will now find at least 300 Islamofascists to burn alive or something folks will notice.

Execute? Execution by RPG? Strange word choice, but in a contorted sense I guess it works. I would guess that the backlash from this wont be too concerned about sorting out which bunch of ´militants´ were responsible. Opting for letting God sort it out.
What´s BHO to do? It seems his leading from behind in toppling Mubarak to bring peace to Egypt by installing the MB was one or two off. If he now supports the military (my choice) he´s right back where he started from only deep in the dung not in the rear ... er ... so to speak. If he supports the Morsi bunch he´s against the people and supporting the MB. SNAFU.

It really would be valuable if journalists and their editors did their work and told who did what to whom. Who exactly are the "militants"? Some petty nameless criminal gang? Or a sophisticated religious sect with a defined leadership and mission?

Just tell us the truth, please.

The Obama Administration continued its push to reduce the number of prisoners serving long sentences as a result of the nation’s federal drug laws on Monday with an announcement by Attorney General Eric Holder describing new rules that would expand the pool of convicts eligible to apply for presidential clemency. In a video released by the Department of Justice, Holder said they will expand the existing criteria government attorneys use to consider which offenders may be eligible for clemency. Later this week Deputy Attorney General James Cole will announce the new criteria, which Holder expects will lead thousands to apply

At a petite 5’3’’, Sage Santangelo may not look like a combat fighter at first glance. But the female second lieutenant has never let that hold her back from pursuing her dream of becoming an infantry officer in the Marine Corps. Growing up, Santangelo found she was always able to keep up with the guys and enjoyed playing hockey on all boys’ teams. But when she joined the Marines, Santangelo found the playing field changed; she was segregated into female-only training units and as a woman, was relegated to less strenuous physical training than her male counterparts. And that’s why,

Slavyansk Ukraine- A deadly gunfight in a town in restive east Ukraine on Sunday shattered a fragile Easter truce, with Russia declaring it was "outraged" at the return to violence in the crisis-hit former Soviet republic. Three pro-Russian militants and one attacker were killed in a firefight at a roadblock close to the separatist-held town of Slavyansk, said a local pro-Kremlin rebel leader, Vyatcheslav Ponomarev. Vladimir, a masked 20-year-old pro-Russian rebel who was at the barricade, told AFP: "Four cars pulled up to our roadblock around 1:00am (2200 GMT Saturday). Washington - The latest delay to a final decision on the Keystone XL oil pipeline will reinforce a White House strategy to energize President Barack Obama´s liberal-leaning base before fall elections in which Democrats risk losing control of the U.S. Senate. Environmentalists, worried about the project´s effect on climate change, have put enormous pressure on the president to reject the pipeline from Canada´s oil sands, staging demonstrations outside the White House and protests in states where he travels. A decision to approve it now could have prompted that vocal group, which was instrumental in electing Obama in 2008 and 2012,

Gospel story of Jesus’ resurrection a

“On the third day, he rose again.” That line, from the Nicene Creed, is a foundational statement of Christian belief. It declares that three days after Jesus died on the cross, he was resurrected, a glimmer of the eternal life promised to believers. It’s the heart of the Easter story in seven little words. But how that statement is interpreted is the source of some of the deepest rifts in Christianity — and a stumbling block for some Christians, and more than a few skeptics. Did Jesus literally come back from the dead in a bodily resurrection, as many traditionalist

´8THEIST´ license plate in NJ: Why

If you can get a New Jersey vanity license plate that reads “BAPTIST,” why not one that reads “8THEIST”? That’s the question Shannon Morgan, a self-describe atheist, is asking in a lawsuit after the New Jersey department of motor vehicles denied her vanity plate application. Her main complaint is a bureaucracy deeming that “8THEIST” has connotations that offend “good taste and decency,” the bar which the state uses to judge the suitability of personalized plate messages. She also wants the state to adopt a more “viewpoint-neutral” vanity plate approval policy, since when she typed “BAPTIST” into the DMV application it

When Chelsea Clinton announced Thursday that she’s pregnant, it took the media about two nanoseconds to home in on what that really means: Hillary, should she run for president in 2016, will campaign as a grandmother. (Snip) And for another, Hillary’s newfound role as grandmother isn’t necessarily a political boon. As I wrote in the Washington Monthly’s current issue, it could very easily cut both ways. After all, Hillary, who will be 68 in 2016, already runs the risk of appearing old, a vulnerability not lost on her detractors. From the Monthly: (At sixty-six, Hillary is “not particularly old for

Chef Vered Guttman braved the challenge of preparing a White House Passover seder in line with Michelle Obama´s healthy eating guidelines and lived to tell her story. "The traditional seder fare is hardly fresh or healthy," Guttman wrote in a post-dinner review about incorporating vegetable sides to "offset some of the Jewish carbs" like gefilte fish and matzo ball soup. And her hard work to keep it healthy paid off, as both the President and First Lady praised her quinoa-kale salad and even inquired after the recipe. A new poll shows former secretary of state Hillary Clinton´s (D) numbers hitting their lowest point in six years. Meanwhile, it finds that the Republican Party is experiencing something of a renaissance. The Fox News poll, from Democratic pollster Anderson Robbins Research and GOP pollster Shaw & Company, shows Clinton´s favorable rating dropping to 49 percent, compared to 45 percent unfavorable. The last time her numbers were in that ballpark was during the 2008 Democratic presidential primary race. After she ended her campaign, her favorable/unfavorable split was 47/46. Other polls have shown Clinton´s numbers --

DENVER | Colorado Democrats abandoned their own divisive abortion proposal Wednesday, axing the bill after one lawmaker expressed indecision and it became clear they might not have the votes to pass it in a chamber where every vote matters. Democrats used a legislative maneuver to shelve a bill that would have banned any state regulation of reproductive decisions such as abortion and contraception. It had been scheduled for a vote Wednesday evening in the Senate, where the party holds a slim one-seat majority. The move came after Sen. John Kefalas, D-Fort Collins, said he wasn’t sure if the measure was

Harry Reid isn’t backing down from his claim that rancher Cliven Bundy’s supporters are “domestic terrorists.” It’s astonishing rhetoric given the White House’s characterization of the mass shooting by a genuine terrorist, Major Nidal Hasan, who killed 13 Americans at the Fort Hood Army base after yelling “Allahu Akbar!” (God is great.) Rather than labeling Hasan’s actions “domestic terrorism,” the Obama administration is prosecuting him for having committed “workplace violence.” Democratic rhetoric is become ever more desperate and overheated as we approach the November midterm elections. Perhaps the most remarkable feature of American democracy is the magnificent estate of public land that it reserved from the very beginning for the use of all citizens, rich or poor. There is nothing like it in the democracies of Europe, which came into being with nations already carved up into private fiefdoms. Wouldn´t some suspect that the scientists who raised these claims were driven by something—ideology, tobacco money—other than science? Until August 2013, she was a clinical Associate Professor of Law at Northwestern University School of Law.
