In The Liberty Amendments Mark Levin has delivered more than advertised. He promises a credible agenda for reinvigorating constitutional government based on an approach to the amendment process which avoids the liabilities of better known options. What he delivers, though, is a vast, potentially game-changing political arsenal that can be drawn upon by everyone from had-it-up-to-here Tea Partiers to Republican candidates at least sentient enough to know they need something more than budget and deficit talk. (snip) One of the most malignant consequences of Republican betrayal of Tea Party exertions in 2010 has been its effect on conservative citizens´ morale.
Levin´s ideas are interesting, even if the argument is really moot, since chances of amending the constitution are vanishingly slight. It´s easier to pack the court with partisans than to get an amendment approved, and arguably far more effective.
I´m reluctant to write the following because it will fall on deaf ears, but (sigh), I´ll, at least, offer an abridged narrative:
All contracts, both private, and public are no better than the characters of the parties entering into the agreements. And so it is with the constitution of the United States of America. It is NO better that the character of the people it serves.
The majority of Americans have become a lawless, decadent, and ignoble people. Until we restore our moral integrity, the constitution is valueless.
I agree that the country is not what it used to be, #4, but I don´t think its that bad. I think your concerns are true of the segments of society that control our culture today, though. The "ruling class", most of the news media, many educators, Hollywood, and others. But I encounter too many decent people to think this is a true majority of America.
The problem is, the rest of us have no effective voice. Levin´s ideas are very powerful, and are, in fact, the founders ideas, re-found and re-energized. Capua´s thoughts on Levin´s proposals encourage me further. I saw Levin on Hannity for the full hour with a distinguished conservative panel a couple of nights ago and was blown away. I really think this might be our chance to save our future.
By the way, I don´t normally watch Hannity. If he had shows like this more often, I might always watch.
Excellent, must read, statement of the potential impact of Levin´s work. Will it rank with Paine´s Common Sense, the writings of the abolitionists, Greeley´s admonition to "go west", Goldwater´s Conscience of a Conservative ? History will tell.
Make no mistake about it, however: this is a movement document. Capua correctly points out that whether it results in a new party or PAC or revitalized Tea Parties or other form: it has the gravitas to start a political "wave".
We´ve heard politicians, TV and radio hosts, columnists, friends, and neighbors rail about the problem. We´re well aware of the particulars by now. At last, someone has detailed something we can actually do about it. Let us begin - time is running out for our Republic.
I just read his book. The improbability is about equal to the impossibility of the state´s forcing an amendment change. It was included in Art. 5 as an alternative to violence. I do believe that it could grow legs, but the chances of this decadent/self-gratifying society launching a effective assault to restore the values of our Constitution are slim.
Until the moral core of our "gimme, gimme" nation is brought into line, we will be destined to live with this lawlessness. True Americans have lots of work to do!
Sorry; not for me. If you want to change society...get out there and do it, rather than merely talking about it, rather than merely whining about it.
Mother Teresa didn´t need a lot of money or a lot of books to start a revolution. She certainly didn´t need a lot of whining or pontificating. She asked some pointed questions...and then quietly went about doing what needed to be done.
When is someone going to step up and say that all this money going into elections is an utter waste? If you want to change society, then dare people to put their money where their mouth is. We don´t need more loudmouths - Dem or Rep - we need more doers. Don´t just give to a charity; get your hands dirty!
Interesting perspective. Besides ultra-wealthy liberals and the Lo-Fo crowd that can live off of government programs, no one is happy with the country´s direction. There is an opportunity for great change.

#4 I hear what you are saying. Howerever I think the problem is that so many people that come on sites like this one do nothing more than make bluster. How many of you are running for office at the local level, calling your congressmen, attending rallies, challenging every liberal you come in contact, running for school boards, becoming professors or teachers and most importantly when it comes down to the primary election how many of you are staying home and not voting because otherwise good candidates have a flaw which leads to democrat victory?
Mark Levin is a brilliant man and has many true fans. But, we´re not going to be going through the process he advocates in my lifetime, at least. Lovely to think about, but that´s all. For those who say the media and the "elites" choose our candidates, that´s a copout. The media write about the names in the news, not always fairly. The "elites" are the primary movers of Washington politics, but we, the voters, determine the nominee. The primary system has to be fixed. I´m sick, in Texas, of having the nominees already decided before I can cast a vote. Texas is not alone. Dump the idea that Iowa and New Hampshire are qualified and capable of telling the rest of us who deserves our vote. And, as earlier posters said, we have to do a lot of individual work, sending money, attending rallies, helping get out the vote. There´s no place for whiners.
Today, the Constitution does not establish responsibilities and boundaries for the government.
Banksters do that.
Some of what Levin says has merit. Other things do not. But there is a great deal wrong with our society beyond cultural corruption and a leaning toward Marx, much of it having to do with the central core which binds a market-based socio-economy together: its unit of currency. Fix that, and you can begin to fix the other things.
On Hannity´s show, Levin stated that change would have to come from a bottom up approach and I totally agree with him. The late Senator Patrick J Moynihan, prolifically once said "All politics is local." So true.
Without a doubt, we need to get more of our feet into local and state government office. Everyone should try to give a little of themselves somehow, somewhere. It´s the cumulative effect that makes a difference. The reason why The Tea Party was so successful in 2010 was because it was just that. We all came together.
Something I´ve been harping about for many years is the GOP has to learn how to communicate more effectively with the people and learn how to push the right buttons. They need to hit the right chord to get people out to vote. Instead of glossing over a subject, they should be more specific with what they say. For instance, If I were a candidate, I would say something like this..."I will do everything in my power to get gasoline prices back to $2.00 a gallon." Most people can understand and relate to that statement. What they don´t understand is talking about the Keystone Pipeline.
There are other examples. What Republicans need to learn is how to sell themselves and by talking about what benefits the average Joe.
The Levin plan is comprehensive and it will be a long slog. It needs to be tried and soon. When things get moving events such as the collapse brought about by Obama policies which is imminent will spur things along faster than we might think. It is important to have a civil option which Levin provides. The alternative is violence which generally leads to a bad outcome. Obama has been trying so far unsuccessfully to provoke the right to violence. You can bet he would crush it with great glee. What are those billions of rounds of hollow point bullets for?
When considering the Tea Party, keep in mind that it doesn´t have a single message any more than Reps and Dems do. Where I live, the Tea Party is the "do nothing" party. That is, the elected Tea Party officials take the position that government should do - nothing. Therefore, they are the least effective members of the state and local government. You can´t sit on your hands throughout your service as an elected official, and then expect people to listen to you when you are running for re-election or for bigger office. "Elect me! I will continue to do nothing!"
If action to make and create motivates you, then The Liberty Amendments book is a must-purchase(purchased this week). This article by Mr Capua gives excellent insight into the actions that Mark Levin´s book may unleash. MUST read article.
On Hannity´s show, Levin said he didn´t know what would happen if people acted on the processes laid out in The Liberty Ammendments, he didn´t know exactly where it would lead or how it would play out...but he DID know what would happen if we didn´t act.
In his books and discussions, Mark Levin redirects our attention back to the Constitution, reminds us of the freedom secured AND achieved through its principles and then he points out how far we have as a nation moved away from those principles. Thus, we find the many challenges to those basic principles of liberty today. The Liberty Amendments puts the Constitution back in the national spotlight because it is this ship of state´s, ´compass,´ for Liberty. With this book, as well as his other best sellers, Levin has started the national discussion. BRAVO!!! ...Just in the nick of time too!
I am surprised that the naysayers here offer no alternative, just a defeatist attitude. I suggest people read the Federalist papers to see what the Founding Fathers worried about for the future (they were right). Freedom was our RIGHT endowed by our Creator, and I for one will NOT allow Obama and democrat/socialist/communists to take my freedom away. Naysayers, either start marching with us, or get out of the way. A journey of a thousand miles starts with a single step. Thank you Mark Levin. Never give up.
If you are reading this, I am in. I am a freedom loving American and my liberty is non-negotiable. I couldn´t care less how hard it will be or how other´s say its impossible. I will gladly take my chances with the grass roots than with the "politically connected" class.
I´d like to add another amendment to Levin´s list. Stop the mandatory public education thingy. After a kid or some kids "learn" to read and do simple arithmetic then concerned and involved parents can require their kids to read books for 5 hours a day and learn. History, science, etc..... If a parent chooses to send the kid to school then let them. Just stop making it mandatory. Put the left wing thugs out of business.
There are some thirty plus conservative legislatures in the US. What needs to happen is groups should gather steam in each state and start the ball rolling in their state. Once things start moving, it will take energetic groups to keep the fires lit. It will have to start with local states, but there will eventually need to be a central body to organize getting the forces moving in the same direction.
Is it possible? YOU BET! There were several states that filed bills of recession. I don´t know what is happening with them, but these scandals are the spark that could keep the fires lit. Especially the IRS criminality. We must never cede our freedoms to the elite miscreants that we´ve sent to Washington to "represent" US.
They had better get moving on amending the US Constitution because after eight years of Obama, and the a probable eight more years of Hillary Clinton, the US Supreme Court will be so packed with liberals that the Levin inspired amendment process will have no chance of passing judicial muster.
ObamaCare has as its modus operandi a focus on medical management by already beleaguered primary care physicians and para-health professionals, at the expense of medical and surgical specialists. The law´s administrators hope to control costs by cutting already bare-bones specialty physician payments, limiting medical technology and access to imaging, and instituting de facto health care rationing. Medicine has been increasingly high-tech and more specialist-oriented, resulting in better, albeit more expensive, care. To cut expenses, ObamaCare is naïvely turning to an outmoded model of health care delivery -- one that has been shown to have comparatively poor patient outcomes.
One of the most startling revelations of late was that Congress has not seen the videos made by the Predator/Reaper remotely piloted aircraft (RPA) that were flying during that event we now call Benghazigate. This detail is one of many arising from the recent classified hearings held by the House Intelligence Committee in which five eye-witnesses to the event gave testimony for the first time (snip) The key point of the revelation is that not just that audio and video tapes of those events exist; that audio and video record was available to multiple command centers, commanders, and decision makers in
It isn´t my intention to compare and contrast the performances of Julie Andrews and Carrie Underwood, both of whom sang the lead role of Maria in The Sound of Music. (snip) The Sound of Music reveals the culture shock that typified the sixties. During that time there was a titanic wrestling match between traditional America and radical America. For the time being, it appears the radical version of our country has prevailed. I watched both the staged and on-screen versions. I honestly felt I may as well have been watching a musical about medieval England. The story seemed as far removed
The political collapse of Barack Obama continues apace, with his own allies in the Democratic Party starting to give up on him. Now comes news that Obamacare supporters outside the party have decided to take matters in their own hands, rather than rely on the White House to sell Obamacare. Noam N. Levey and Kathleen Hennessey of the Los Angeles Times report: As supporters of the Affordable Care Act brace for new headaches next year, many have concluded they cannot count on the Obama administration, whose efforts to explain and promote the law are increasingly viewed as poorly planned, unreliable and
The old media won´t tell you so, but President Obama is facing a revolt from within his own political party. It was bound to happen once the dimensions of the ObamaCare disaster started to become obvious. Yesterday, I pointed out that Charles Rangel is an early indicator of the discontent bubbling beneath the surface, and that he is freer to speak than non-black Democrats. But today we have another leading indicator. (snip)Rosslyn Smith points out: "If Obama has lost Gergen, he´s lost the entire DC establishment. Gergen is almost the perfect indicator of the conventional wisdom inside the beltway.
MSNBC is the gift that keeps on giving, serving up propaganda intended to benefit the far left, but which in its absurdity repels people grounded in reality. Now, one of its hosts, Melissa Harris-Perry, already familiar to AT readers for her theater of the absurd political performance art, has played a race card so bizarre that it self-discredits. (snip) "I want to talk today about a controversial word. It´s a word that has been with us for years. And like it or not, it´s indelibly printed in the pages of American history. A word that was originally intended as a
Like communism, the collapse of the Obama Administration agenda is inevitable, not solely as a result of its many flawed policies, but because it lacks an ethical dimension in regard to individual rights, justifiable criteria for its use of state coercion and, in particular, a respect for the truth. Stated simply, Obama lies because the true objectives of his fundamental transformation of the United States are incompatible with American democracy and tradition. (snip) The arrogance and mendacity of the Obama White House is directly proportional to misplaced political loyalty and a submissive and willfully blind press.
By now, the news has spread online of the IRS audit notices sent to two Obamacare whistleblowers. On November 25th, cancer victim Bill Elliott and C. Steven Tucker were informed of the ordeal each was to face. Elliott has been waging a pitched battle with cancer. Tucker is the insurance agent and healthcare freedom activist who informed him that the canceling of his insurance, wrought by the Obama administration for the sake pushing citizens into Obamacare, was illegal. Tucker reached out immediately after Elliott appeared on Fox News´ The Kelly File, Nov. 7th, and Elliott´s insurance was hastily reinstated.
I claim no special insider knowledge of the Democratic Party´s inner workings, but still I am rather certain that discontent with President Obama is bubbling beneath the veneer of public unity behind the Nation´s First Black President. (snip) They´re two of the most powerful African-American politicians in the land. And by most accounts, President Obama and Rep. Charles Rangel hate each other. The most recently revealed salvo in their war of words - Obama´s assertion that Rangel is a "hack," according to the political tome "Double Down" - is just one element of a long-dysfunctional relationship.
Well, well, well. It´s always a glorious day in a socialist paradise when the lefties show their tyrannical hand and try to suppress speech. They want Americans to have accessibility to healthcare, but not to any information about the insurance they are forcing millions to purchase. In order to arm Californians with accurate information about the California Healthcare Exchange, the California Republican Assembly launched a website this past August called CoveringHealthcareCA.com -- clearly setting forth what you have to do, the date by which you have to do it and the consequences if you don´t.
The GOP establishment is loath to admit it, but the government shutdown is turning out to be a brilliant political chess move on the part of Senators Ted Cruz and Mike Lee. The Obamacare disaster, fully predictable by anyone who understands the effect of incentives and the fundamental incompetence of academic theorists and left wing ideologues, has made the go-for-broke attempt to stop it an obvious profile in courage. (snip) The budget and debt limit fights lie ahead. Cruz and Lee have laid out the path for us. The GOP can now say that that because the Democrats have shown
Something is up! The "young invincibles" who were largely responsible for catapulting Barack Obama into the seat of power appear to be spurning ObamaCare and its joke of a website. (Snip) In hopes of driving home his point, rather than sports, split lips, and stitches, the president, well-acquainted with the subject, chose to discuss substance abuse dangers. Let's remember, Barack Obama, Sr. was an alcoholic who lost his legs and later his life in two separate drunk-driving accidents; the president's illegal Uncle Omar manages a liquor store and, before getting a green card, was arrested for drunken driving.
On his way to the podium at the memorial ceremony for former South African president Nelson Mandela, President Obama walked down the line of dignitaries, greeting other leaders there to pay their respects. Among the hands shaken: that of Cuban leader Raul Castro. Obama neither made a special effort to shake Castro’s hand nor to avoid him. A snub might have been awkward: In his speech, Obama praised Mandela’s “greatest gift” as “his recognition that we are all bound together in ways that can be invisible to the eye; that there is a oneness to humanity; that we achieve ourselves by
The Obama State Department has finally released a second round of photos revealing the harrowing devastation wrought by a terrorist attack on the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi on Sept. 11, 2012. The new photographs depict rampant damage to the consulate. They show charred walls, smoldering fires, Arabic graffiti defacing exterior walls, and scattered debris throughout. The extent of the damage would lead any reasonably serious person to conclude that this was a cold, calculated attack, carefully coordinated to mark the 11th anniversary of Sept. 11, 2001. Unfortunately for the American people, the Obama-Clinton-Rice cabal that led to the Benghazi cover-up was
A black fashion student says he was brutally attacked by a gang of Hasidic men who shouted anti-gay slurs at him while he was walking through Williamsburg after a night of partying, the Daily News has learned. A “presidential selfie” featuring President Barack Obama, British Prime Minister David Cameron, and Denmark’s Prime Minister Helle Thorning-Schmidt at Nelson Mandela’s memorial service began making the rounds this morning, but it’s the person not included in the frame who caught everyone’s attention: As anyone with two eyes and a Twitter account has noticed, Michelle Obama does not appear amused. Of course, though a picture says a thousand words, not all of those words are necessarily true. FLOTUS might not have even known the photo was taking place. Or she could disapprove of funeral selfies. Either way.
Just how much do many Hollywood liberals hate conservatives? In an interview with Playboy, Ben Affleck said, "When I watch a guy [on film] I know is a big Republican, part of me thinks, I probably wouldn’t like this person if I met him": PLAYBOY: You developed a political profile campaigning for presidential candidates Al Gore, John Kerry and Barack Obama. How did that come about? AFFLECK: I grew up in a house with a mother who was a teacher and a Freedom Rider—very left-wing Democrats living in a heterogeneous working-class neighborhood. I picked up a lot of those values there, and I
MSNBC host Melissa Harris-Perry opened her program over the weekend with a commentary about the Affordable Care Act’s colloquial moniker: “Obamacare.” She said that the word was originally created as a “derogatory term,” designed by white men as a way to delegitimize President Barack Obama and his achievement. However, she said that the term will soon be synonymous with all of Obama’s accomplishments and she urged her audience to use the term with pride. “I want to talk today about a controversial word. It’s a word that has been with us for years, and like it or not, it’s indelibly

President Obama will make remarks on Nelson Mandela´s legacy during a memorial service Tuesday for the late South African freedom fighter, officials said Monday. All three networks on Monday morning highlighted the appearance of the Obamas at the Kennedy Center Honors, but only ABC fawned over "fashion win" of First Lady. Lara Spencer enthused that " one of the stars of the show was Michelle Obama." An excited Spencer explained that Mrs. Obama looked "absolutely ravishing in a flowing teal gown as she accompanied President Obama." The co-host declared, "Another big fashion win for the First Lady. Former Secretary of State Colin Powell believes the United States should have a socialized, single-payer healthcare system similar to those in Canada and Europe. “I think universal health care is one of the things we should really be focused on, and I hope that will happen,” Powell reportedly said last week. “Whether it’s Obamacare, or son of Obamacare, I don’t care. As long as we get it done.” The Puget Sound Business Journal reported Powell´s remarks at the Prostate Cancer Survivors Celebration Breakfast at the University of Washington´s Cancer Research Center.
