Mark Steyn argues that two things have happened simultaneously. America has “imploded on the world stage” while its current leaders have increased their power at home. (Snip) The web is rife with rumor that one side or the other is holding a scandal over the administration’s head. There is no proof that any such scandal exists. But given the parade of scandals already too numerous to mention it cannot wholly be discounted that some such exists. So Obama remains hunkered down in Martha’s Vineyard, emerging periodically from his vacation home, like a cuckoo from a clock, to make a
Comments: What have the strategic world players got on Obama? Is he being blackmailed by America´s competitors and enemies? It´s not inconceivable. As I have said before, when this character falls from the heights, he´ll break like a crystal wine goblet on a tile floor.
#1 You are right, barry is dumb. If he were smart, his grades would be posted in the masthead of every socialist mainstream newspaper in the country. Maybe the competitors have a copy of his grades and are blackmailing him with them.
grades aren´t enough to blackmail a president. Perhaps though it could be enough to know where he was - how he managed to get to Pakistan -what he was doing there when Americans were banned from traveling there.
His visible aides and advisors are either criminal, or equally stupid. What a bunch of thugs we´ve got there.
HOWEVER, it´s not his voters who are a problem in and of themselves. They are all Democrats and every time there´s an election they´ll vote for whatever Democrat is put before them.
Everyone should have learned that by now.
The problem lies with those who have decided in the past to forego Republican voter registration campaigns. We had a lot of that ater the 2004 election ~ and we paid or that in 2008!
The TEAParty stirred up the troops and we had an additional 5 million new Republican voters by 2012 ~ which more than made up for the normal death rate among Baby Boomers (now moving into their peak dying years).
In general, the crowd who work to suppress the TEAParty movement are also working to hurt Republican voter registration activities.
Obviously the Democrats understand this and approve.
That classic Stein imagery produced a broad smile.
Then I realized Obama doesn´t do much useful work, unlike a time-keeping clock cuckoo. He´s much more like a real cuckoo.
A real cuckoo´s lifestyle involves laying an egg in another bird´s nest, kicking his nest mates to death on the hard ground far below, and enjoying the housing and food provided by the surrogate parents who were suckered into raising him while his birth mother happily flew off to parts unknown.
The Left, and Obama is very much a man of the Left, wants to take America down. Remember their ecstasy when we surrendered in Vietnam and their beloved communists took over. Remember how they tried, very successfully, to make every American soldier fighting al-Qaeda look like a deranged sadist in Abu Ghraib. The Left wants the USA taken down, and basically, that´s all they really want.
That´s square one of Obama´s "foreign policy". Not incompetence, not the usual dullness of mind of the normal Democrat, but the desire to "even things out" among freedom´s enemies, America´s enemies, around the world. How many notches America has to be taken down to do this is not their concern, as long as the downward spiral is implemented.
When we assume blackmail is the reason for incompetence or malfeasance, we absolve the individual of blame. No, Barack Obama isn´t being blackmailed. He has no clue about how to lead the most important nation in the world. He is the comic book caricature of an academic, with ivory tower theories and lofty goals, but no real-world skills to implement and reach them. So, like cockroaches, he gets into everything and then messes everything up.
This man is the quintessential glass jawed candidate from Central Casting. How and why did Bill Clinton hold off in 2008 without moving in with the infamous Clinton destruction machine? What was it that scared off even Bill Clinton?? Thats where the real answer lies to - who this man is, why is he where he is and how he reacts and fails to react to situations he confronts.
President Obama’s foreign policy clout it growing from an unexpected source. First some background. In the Caribbean, where Venezuela’s PetroCaribe diplomacy once ruled the roost, the Chavez enterprise is on the verge of collapse. The reason is it’s going broke from more competition. (Snip) It is being beggared by not only the mismanagement of the Venezuelan oil industry but by fracking. Megan McArdle explained that scarcity — artificial or natural — was OPEC’s friend. Abundance was its enemy. "As long as prices were high, all of this was fine; Saudi and everyone else were pumping a lot and taking in
According to a recent Quinnipiac poll, Floridians support legalizing marijuana for medicinal purposes by a whopping 82-16 margin, crossing all party lines. Frustrated by decades of inaction by the Florida Legislature, citizens have taken it into their own hands to put the issue directly before voters through a citizens’ initiative to amend the Florida Constitution. The question should be whether Florida wants to join 20 other states and the District of Columbia in making medical marijuana available to its residents suffering from debilitating illnesses. Instead, those in Florida leadership positions in both the legislative and executive branches are busy trying
One of the indefinable characteristics of deterrence is something called “credibility”. The credibility of a state was the confidence that if X then that state would do Y. It made things predictable. Now if the Obama administration says it will disarm Iran or stop North Korea, would it predictably do so? Iran seems to think the Obama administration will predictably not stop it. Recently Reuters announced that “Iran will pursue construction at the Arak heavy-water reactor, Foreign Minister Mohammed Javad Zarif was quoted as saying on Wednesday, despite a deal with world powers to shelve a project they fear could
Now that Americans have largely caught on that their government will lie to them to support the expansion of state power, America´s progressives are in for a rough time ahead, according to Peter Ferrara, writing at Forbes. "The second shoe is preparing to drop to shatter the world view of so-called Progressives. Coming, global revelations will demonstrate the fraud behind the theory of man-caused, catastrophic, global warming, just like the real world has shattered the falsehoods behind Obamacare. That is because the underlying reason for both frauds was the same: to expand government power. Enablers went along with the fraud in
Many commentators, most eloquently Bret Stephens at the Wall Street Journal, draw a parallel between the appeasement of Hitler at Munich in 1938 and the appeasement of Iran at Geneva. There is another, more chilling parallel: Iran’s motive for proposing to annihilate the Jewish State is the same as Hitler’s, and the world’s indifference to the prospect of another Holocaust is no different today than it was in 1938. It is the dead’s envy for the living. Dying civilizations are the most dangerous, and Iran is dying. Its total fertility rate probably stands at just 1.6 children per female, the
Paul Caron at the Taxprof describes the concept of the GUGIT, whose central idea is to “progressively” tax a person wherever he may be, whatever citizenship he might hold. (Snip) As George Will observed, “There’s no limiting principle in the principle that they’re invoking, that is majorities should rule all the time. What this means is if in the spring of 2017 there is a Republican president, which there could be, the Republicans still hold the House and they have 51 Senators, they can repeal Obamacare with 51 votes. And I’m not sure the people who did this today have
TAMPA — It took jurors less than an hour Tuesday to unanimously recommend that three-time convicted murderer Dontae Morris be executed for killing Tampa police officers Jeffrey Kocab and David Curtis. “The fact that they came back 12-0 speaks volumes about the viciousness of Dontae Morris´ crimes,” said Tampa Police Chief Jane Castor after the verdict was announced. “He didn´t just kill two police officers. He killed others in the community. If there is an instance where the death penalty is applicable, then this is it. The jury said that loud and clear.” Morris, who also was convicted in March
TAMPA — Dontae Morris could not overcome a “mountain of evidence,” including a dashboard video recording showing him kill two Tampa police officers and then running away as they lay dead or dying on the side of a road. An Orange County jury, bused in to Tampa, took four hours Friday night to convict Morris of two counts of first-degree murder and one count of escape in the killings of officers David Curtis and Jeffrey Kocab on June 29, 2010. The jurors will reconvene on Tuesday to hear evidence over whether they should recommend a death sentence for Morris, who
Middle East politics amounts to managing the decline of a failed culture. Nothing expresses Arab failure more vividly than Egypt, a banana republic without the bananas, now living on a $14 billion or so annual subsidy from Saudi Arabia and other Gulf States. With 70% of its population living in agricultural areas, it imports half its food, and would starve if not for the Saudi check. Egypt is beyond the point of no return economically, and American foreign policy is beyond the point of no return intellectually. Americans of both parties–Obama and Kerry on one side, and Sens. McCain and
The New York Times has an interesting article on treating “gun violence” as a disease. It describes the work of Gary Slutkin who “came to the view that gun violence in poor neighborhoods did indeed resemble the epidemics he had treated in Africa”. (Snip) Slutkin’s treatment apparently rests on the idea that shootings are an African-American cultural problem and by finding “disease carriers” and treating them, crime could be reduced. Slutkin’s heart must be pure, or else his whole program would be condemned by the NYT as an exercise in racial profiling and forced re-education. Rebranding works wonders. Shakespeare was
“Using statistics,” my teacher used to say, “is like driving a car down a road with the windshield blacked out, guided only by your rear-view mirror.” The notion of the future as a probability is at the heart of the Washington Post‘s survey of natural disasters. Typhoon Haiyan was not unique. It was individually unpredictable, but it was statistically just what one would have expected: “33 of the 35 deadliest tropical cyclones on record have occurred in southern or southeastern Asia – due to a confluence of meteorology, geography, population density, poverty and government. The deadliest tropical cyclone in recorded
The art world was abuzz Tuesday night when an auction of contemporary and postwar works at Christie´s New York netted a total of roughly $692 million. Of course, to Major League Baseball´s brass, this figure represents a quiet off-season of spending. The biggest sale of the night was a Francis Bacon triptych called "Three Studies in Lucian Freud" that went for a record $142.4 million. If the unidentified buyer had been more interested in speedy outfielders than bleak expressionism, he or she could have used that money to hire the services of Dodger Carl Crawford for seven years. Another buyer
Rep. Jim McDermott (D-Wash.) said on MSNBC’s “PoliticsNation” Wednesday that when Jesus fed five thousand people with five loaves of bread and two fish, “he didn’t charge food stamps.” “When Jesus had those five loaves and two fishes, he didn´t charge food stamps. He didn´t ask anybody how much money they had. He fed them because they were hungry, and that´s really where we ought to be,” McDermott said in response to Republican critics of the SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program). In September, the House approved a plan by Republicans to cut $39 billion in food stamps over the next
The nation’s view of former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, colored by the horrific Benghazi assassination of the U.S. ambassador to Libya on her watch, has suddenly turned upside down, with more now holding an unfavorable opinion of the likely 2016 presidential candidate. A new YouGov/Economist poll found Clinton, whose approval ratings have typically been sky high, with an unfavorable rating of 48 percent, more than the 46 percent who have a favorable opinion of her. The YouGov pollsters said that the change in American attitudes toward Clinton "suggests that negative press surrounding the tragic
In the US we are used to abortion advocates claiming that the risk of elective abortion is relatively trivial, and major medical organizations denying any link between abortion and breast cancer. Now a powerful new study from China published last week by Yubei Huang and colleagues suggests otherwise. The article, a meta-analysis pooling 36 studies from 14 provinces in China, showed that abortion increased the risk of breast cancer by 44% with one abortion, and 76% and 89% with two and three abortions. This new article is another example of the recent excellent scholarship on abortion in peer-reviewed journals coming out
MIDDLETOWN, Del.- Remembering the plot of a short story is no longer good enough in teacher Amy Lawson´s fifth-grade classroom. Today´s students are being asked to think more critically. For example, what might a character say in an email to a friend? "It´s hard. But you can handle this," Lawson tells them. Welcome to a classroom using the Common Core State Standards, one of the most politicized and misunderstood changes in education for students and their teachers in kindergarten through high school. In 45 states and the District of Columbia, Lawson and and other teachers are starting to use the standards
Bill Clinton, the cliché goes, was the first black president, no matter his skin color. That being the case, Barack Obama is not the first black president, or the first African-American president, if you prefer, but the first hippie president. Clinton’s southern background and lifestyle were indeed more typically black, just as Obama’s was more typically hippie. And we’re not just talking about the “Choom gang” here, scarfing “Maui Wowie” on the sands of Oahu. We’re talking about all of it, the whole multi-culti-missing-white-mother-vanished-Kenyan-father-anti-imperialist-America-is-always-the-enemy-and-don’t-you-forget-it-nine-yards. And like most hippie culture as I knew and experienced it, it wasn’t about “peace and love.” Not
Gov. Chris Christie’s “bizarre behavior’’ in refusing to say he’ll support a possible GOP challenger to Gov. Cuomo next year could derail his chances to become president, state and national GOP insiders have told The Post. “Christie already has a problem with many Republicans refusing to forgive him because of his embrace of [President] Obama and his socially liberal policies,’’ said a nationally prominent GOP operative. “But this bizarre behavior in suggesting he won’t help a Republican defeat a Democratic governor, and a Cuomo no less, could finish off his chances of becoming his party’s nominee for president in 2016,’’ the
Senior officials in the White House have said that Israel Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu “is desperate and weak,” in reaction to Netanyahu´s remonstrations against the deal struck with Iran over its nuclear weapons program. Israeli television Channel 10 quoted the officials as saying “His pronouncements show a lack of self-confidence,” in an unusually harsh personal attack on Netanyahu. “We are not perturbed by his vocal opposition.”
During a presentation at the White House in which President Barack Obama touted the benefits of the Affordable Care Act, the president declared that his signature health care reform law was not going to be repealed. This assertion led his administration members, his staff, and audience members to rise from their seats and give the president a standing ovation. Obama said that ACA opponents’ alternative to the health care reform law is to champion repeal and going back to the health care delivery system status quo ante. He specifically cited Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-KY) who he said was asked directly for
A woman has revealed how difficult it is to eat healthily and stay full when living off an average food stamp budget. Melinda Moulton, from Huntington, Vermont, was one of 200 people to take part in the 3Squares Challenge, which saw her living for a week on just $36 worth of food, or around $1.71 a meal. Opting to try and eat as healthily as possible, Ms Moulton resorted to cheap foods like yogurt for breakfast, two handfuls of peanuts for lunch and lentil stew for dinner, all of which left her unsatisfied.´I don´t know how people do it,´ said
Barack Obama is a man with only one core conviction. He has, as the basic foundation of his otherwise disorganized and uncertain belief system, the irrefutable tenet that the United States, because of its European roots, has been the epitome of oppression and arrogance throughout its history. Therefore, he is able to rationalize the need to say or do anything as the transformation of American society and the end of the pre-eminent status of the United States are his sole objectives. He has, thus, adopted a pre-meditated schizophrenic personality wherein he comports himself as an apologist and appeaser on the
A push by activists to ease the 30-year-old blanket ban on blood donations from gay and bisexual men faces a key test this week as a federal panel hears results of the latest research. The findings will be released amid growing pressure from politicians and advocates, including college students, to change the policy. Critics say the ban is a hangover from the early, fear-filled days of AIDS, stigmatizing gay men and ignoring advances in treatment and detection in the decades since. Supporters of the policy say politics, not science, is driving the proposed change, which would heighten the risk of
So the troubled site apparently now works 90 percent of the time. That should be good news for Obama—but the question is whether Obamacare will get the mass enrollment it needs. HealthCare.gov finally works. Now people just need to use it. The error-plagued website, which was supposed to be the portal for Americans seeking to buy health insurance through the exchanges set up by the Affordable Care Act, is finally approaching basic functionality two months after it went online. In a report released Sunday, the Department of Health and Human Services breathlessly announced that the website now functions more than 90 percent of
