Introduction Last month´s not guilty verdict in the trial of George Zimmerman on second degree murder and manslaughter charges for the killing of the black 17-year-old Trayvon Martin, in Sanford, Florida, on February 26 last year, has provoked a flurry of discussion in the US mainstream media on the issues of racial profiling and Stand Your Ground laws (which remove the duty to retreat in self-defence cases.) (Snip)Zimmerman´s defence rested on a pure self-defence claim (he was not in a position to retreat when he shot Martin), while the prosecution, much as they would have liked to, could produce no
Comments: This is a stunning piece, a detailed compilation of information on this case from Day One. It is a serious piece of work, a must read for anyone who knows bits and pieces about this unusual case, and also for some of us who thought we knew a great deal, that nothing could surprise us. To see all of this information, this narrative, pulled together like this is quite extraordinary.
Print it off and read it. It is not just about George Zimmerman.
Unfortunately the part of the intro that talked about Myburgh´s main point - that the media and the justice system were complicit with the Scheme Team´s (Fulton-Martin-Lawyer Crump) "hunting" of George Zimmerman took a simple case of self-defense and distorted it into something much different - was left on the cutting room floor.
In today´s world, if a simple guy like George Zimmerman can end up in a media and "justice"-driven frenzy like this, his life ruined and probably threatened forever, it could happen to just about any of us.
Here is the essence of this piece, which is extremely well-done, interesting - and depressing.
This article then will trace the evolution of the controversy over the shooting death of Trayvon Martin and the way information was presented (or "fed") to the press, and measure it against what we now know. It will then go on to discuss what this case says about the "two systems" that sought to have George Zimmerman arrested, tried and sent to jail for life.
This was the finest recapitulation of the case and trial that has been presented. The MSM should hang their heads in shame. It took someone from far away in South Africa to do the job they should have done.
When you have read the timeline narrative, which (as someone else has posted) included information I´d not seen in all my reading, you get to this:
The Trayvon Martin story is a case study in how, even in the modern day, an advanced industrialised democracy can completely lose its senses; and how difficult it is for it to then recover them. In this particular matter a whole society seemingly fixed its mind on the one object of having George Zimmerman arrested, convicted and sent to jail for life, in reckless disregard of the evidence and the law. The mainstream media, so-called civil rights organisations, the Democrat President of the US, the US Attorney General, the Republican Governor of Florida and his Attorney General, and State Attorney Angela Corey all combined forces in an effort to destroy a single, isolated individual.
The failures of the mainstream media in their reporting on this case were manifold. The claims of the Martin family team should have, from the beginning, been treated with some degree of caution. Sybrina Fulton and Tracy Martin, and their lawyers, had two motivations in campaigning in the way that they did for the arrest of George Zimmerman. The one was obviously vengeance, the other greed. Following the arrest of Zimmerman Benjamin Crump sent a letter on May 9 to the Retreat at Twin Lakes´ Homeowners´ Association announcing the intention of Tracy Martin and Sybrina Fulton to file suit. This had always been the intention of the Martin family and their lawyers. Natalie Jackson had sent a letter to the HOA on March 14 2012 demanding that they preserve any evidence relating to the shooting death of Trayvon Martin. The Martin team reached a settlement agreement with the HOA´s insurers in early April 2013, which Zimmerman´s lawyers estimated amounted to over a million dollars.
(cont´d) Myburgh´s indictment of the media is stinging and well-deserved. This was a shameful exercise of their power to shape public opinion. Yet ABC News continued - even through the trial and afterward - to feature Matt Guttman as its main reporter on this case. Shameful, shameful, shameful.
I was not clear on the time-line [an approximate two week period] between when it happened and when the Martin narrative --put forth by lying lawyers and lying parents, got completely out of control, helped along with toadie media; with Zimmerman in hiding and the Sanford PD maintaining silence as to the details, the hoodwink was a cake walk for Crump & Company.
The account of Martin´s actions --what he was doing when Zimmerman first encountered him, confirms my belief that Martin was casing the Retreat that night for a burglary.
I could never figure out why the kid would decide to truck off the the 7-11 for a fruit drink and Skittles when it was pouring rain, and why he wasn´t hurrying to get inside out of the rain when Zimmerman encountered him; he was just wandering around, looking at the townhouses.
Looking for burglary target was all I could come up with. I think having his burglary plan thwarted is what set off his anger and caused him to jump Zimmerman.
The mainstream media "reporting" had the stink of the Duke LaCrosse case all over it from day one on this case. The prosecutor seemed like a Nifong devotee, even the criminal New Black Panthets chimed in with their lies and filth. The NAACP goons acted like they were vengeful Dunces along with their lackeys in the Obama regime, including Eric Holder and even Obama chimed in with a disgraceful manner. Disgusting performance all the way around from the mainstream media and the Obama regime complex. Glad I don´t watch TV anymore. From what I gather the TV coverage was sickening and biased.
I followed the case in extreme detail, thanks to the people at conservativetreehouse. Sundance was the one responsible for uncovering the MD Police cover-up of Trayvons´ crimes, as well as the school. Had he been properly punished for his crimes he would have been nowhere near Sanford Florida, complicating the lives of everyone that came in contact with him.
The failure rests not just with the parents but a bloodthirsty media, and a corrupt, complicit DOJ. They not only funded the rallies where the New Black Panther Party partcipated, as was uncovered by Judicial Watch, but looked the other way when NBPP put a hit on Geoge Zimmermans´ life.
Sundance also discovered tweets where Trayvons´ father, nicknamed Fruit, appears to be helping him buy and sell guns.
And yet, where is the media? Focused on the Scheme Team, the racial bias, creating a race war, and dividing and conquering.
And where is the expose on Ryan Jullison, the publicist that put all of this into play for the Martin Family for free, who may have capitalized greatly off of this? One never sees mention on Ryan Jullison, yet he was the mainstay in getting the Scheme Team on television and in the news to begin with. Thank goodness his Facebook and website postings and tweets are preserved at tcth, in all their glory, for all to read. Since he scrubbed them, and all...
Former baseball star and Jacksonville native Ryan Freel was suffering from a degenerative brain disease known as chronic traumatic encephalopathy when he committed suicide last year, his family announced Sunday at a private mass remembering the Englewood graduate. The report from the Boston University Center for the Study of Traumatic Encephalopathy and Sports Legacy Institute was presented to Freel´s mother and stepfather, Norma and Clark Vargas, and to representatives from Major League Baseball on Dec. 11 at the winter meetings in Lake Buena Vista.
I won’t lie. A lot of this is bloody funny (read some of the best jokes about it here). The fake sign language interpreter is now a cultural phenomenon, featuring on major US comedy shows and catalysing a new meme. And yet, at the heart of this, is a terrible sadness. (Snip)In South Africa, the signing man told the world, you don’t actually have to know what you are doing in order to get a job. You don’t have to have any ability whatsoever, as long as it looks, to most, as though you can go through the motions —
JOHANNESBURG — The bogus sign language interpreter at last week´s Nelson Mandela memorial service was among a group of people who accosted two men found with a stolen television and burned them to death by setting fire to tires placed around their necks, one of the interpreter´s cousins and three of his friends told The Associated Press Monday. But Thamsanqa Jantjie never went to trial for the 2003 killings when other suspects did in 2006 because authorities determined he was not mentally fit to stand trial, said the four. They insisted on speaking anonymously because of the sensitivity of the
U.S. Senators John McCain and Chris Murphy joined around 200,000 anti-government protesters in the central square of Ukraine´s capital Sunday, threatening sanctions against the government of President Viktor Yanukovych if authorities use more violence to disperse demonstrators. Anti-government protesters have set up an extensive tent camp in Kiev and erected barricades of snow hardened with freezing water and studded with scrap wood and other junk. McCain, R-Ariz., and Murphy, D-Conn., joined the anti-government demonstration to express support for them and their European ambitions. The protests began Nov. 21 after Yanukovych announced he was backing away from signing a long-awaited agreement
In an effort to ease President Obama’s reelection bid, the White House delayed the imposition of a series of regulations affecting Obamacare and environmental protection ahead of the 2012 election, according to a new report in the Washington Post. While the administration has said its approach to regulatory review is consistent with that of previous administrations, several former administration officials told the Post that the delays were longer under Mr. Obama than his predecessors, and that the motive behind them was clearly political. The regulations in question governed some of the most politically sensitive aspects of the president’s agenda. One determined which
Fox News host Megyn Kelly has made herself the center of a racial controversy by declaring that Jesus Christ and Santa Claus are white. On Wednesday night, Kelly was responding to an article by Slate writer Aisha Harris, who wrote an article entitled “ Santa Claus Should Not Be a White Man Anymore .” The popular news host told viewers of “The Kelly File,” her hit FNC program, “When I saw this headline, I kinda laughed and I said, ‘Oh, this is ridiculous. Yet another person claiming it´s racist to have a white Santa.’ And by the way, for all you kids
Since he founded the Center for American Progress a decade ago, John Podesta has built the liberal think tank into a fundraising juggernaut that rakes in between $30 million and $40 million a year from donors. But as Podesta enters the West Wing in the role of counselor to President Barack Obama, the White House and CAP are being forced to examine the awkward relationship between the donors he’s courted and the public policy decisions they want from the president. And as Podesta’s fundraising prowess and progressive bona fides become a source of political attacks, CAP and the White House
MISSOULA, Mont.—A Montana newlywed pleaded guilty Thursday to killing her husband of eight days by pushing him from a cliff in Glacier National Park while they argued about her second thoughts about the marriage. The surprise plea agreement with prosecutors came just before closing arguments were set to begin in the trial of Jordan Graham, 22. In exchange for the guilty plea to second-degree murder, prosecutors agreed to drop a first-degree murder charge and a count of making a false statement to authorities. Graham could face a maximum sentence of life in prison when she is sentenced on March 27.
EXCLUSIVE: The Obama administration overruled career Homeland Security officials and expedited visa applications for about two dozen foreign investors for a politically connected Las Vegas casino hotel after repeated pressure from Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid and his staff, according to internal government documents obtained by The Washington Times. The move to overturn what is normally a non-appealable visa decision came despite concerns about “suspicious financial activity” involving some of the visa applicants from Asia, and it ultimately benefited several companies whose executives have donated heavily in recent years to Democrats, the documents show. It also ensnared Mr. Obama’s current
He’s running out of superlatives, but Borough President Marty Markowitz managed to come up with one more Tuesday: Brooklyn is the “lesbian capital” of the Northeast. The borough’s bubbly chief cheerleader gave the unusual shout-out during a radio interview on WNYC. “We remain the lesbian capital of New York City and the Northeast,” Markowitz proclaimed. “In other words, we have a much larger lesbian population in Brooklyn. New York City is fortunate to have a large LBGT community, but in Brooklyn in particular, the lesbian community, there’s no question it’s the capital of the Northeast. “They’ve made unbelievable contributions to the quality of life
Looks like this president can’t get away with flirting in front of his wife… It appears that first lady Michelle Obama was none too pleased with the way that President Barack Obama was acting toward Denmark Prime Minister Helle Thorning-Schmidt during a ceremony honoring Nelson Mandela, and before too long, they switched seats. ISTANBUL, Turkey — The United States has suspended delivery of non-lethal aid into northern Syria due to concerns over gains by Islamist rebels there, a U.S. official said on Tuesday. The suspension halts direct U.S. assistance to Syria’s rebel-held north, long an opposition stronghold and the focal point of U.S. efforts to support the country’s moderate opposition. The affected aid includes supplies such as food and medicine, as well as vehicles and communications equipment. (Snip)The suspension comes in response to a worrisome development for the Free Syrian Army, or FSA, the moderate rebel coalition backed by the U.S. and its western
Sure, he likely didn’t mean anything overtly sexual by it. But Vice President Joe Biden is a folksy kind of guy who has officially entered dirty old man territory and done something sure to elicit laughs within the White House Press Corps. Look how he’s manhandling The Hill‘s White House Correspondent Aime Parnes for this photograph taken at a recent holiday party that she posted on her Facebook page. For most people’s tastes he’s grazing way too close to the vicinity of her abdomen. And watch her reaction. Is it shock, awe, utter disbelief? Whatever the expression, she appeared to
Michelle Obama has once again stepped out in her $6,800 J Mendel jacket, despite fielding a backlash last time she wore the pricey garment. [Snip] But the last time she wore the embellished garment, in July 2012 at a Buckingham Palace reception in London, political commentators took issue with the fact that she had spent so much on fashion while so many in the U.S. are suffering financially. A post on the Gateway Pundit blog remarked that the design ´cost more than the average American family makes in a month ($4,284)´. ´She does this as Americans continue to suffer through a
Reportage of last week´s Nelson Mandela funeral reveals clearly enough that President Obama has reached the point in his tenure where everything ceases to go right -- when even the most serious and determined efforts deteriorate into a hash, or worse, a joke. This happens to everyone in public life eventually, politicians above all. The original attraction wears thin, flaws appear more prominently, styles and opinions change. There is little the individual can do to avoid this.(snip)The Mandela funeral shows that Obama is deep into this phase of his career, and has landed on his head.
The universe is a hologram and everything you can see - including this article and the device you are reading it on - is a mere projection. This is according to a controversial model proposed in 1997 by theoretical physicist Juan Maldacena. Until now the bizarre theory had never been tested, but recent mathematical models suggest that the mind-boggling principle could be true. According to the theory, gravity in the universe comes from thin, vibrating strings. These strings are holograms of events that take place in a simpler, flatter cosmos. Professor Maldacena´s model suggests that the universe exists in nine
London – Large tapestry portraits of President Barack Obama were unveiled for guests at the U.S. Embassy in London over the weekend. The recently-installed, large-scale tapestry portraits were created by National Medal of Arts winner and renowned American painter, photographer Chuck Close. Close created the portraits by compiling and interweaving Polaroids of the president from an hour-long photo shoot done the summer before, the Washington Post reports. The portraits are nearly 8 feet tall and more than 6 feet wide, with the final piece looking like photos but feeling like textiles. Close used one photo of Obama smiling and another
On Monday, Variety reported that Fox News had once again dominated all comers I the annual ratings, not merely blowing out CNN, MSNBC and HLN, but drawing more viewers than the combined averages of the three other networks. Fox News averaged 1.774 million viewers in primetime; the other three averaged a combined 1.626 million viewers in primetime. Fox finished sixth among all basic cable companies. The addition of Megyn Kelly to primetime has been a boon for Roger Ailes and company, with Kelly up 23% in total viewers in the timeslot. No wonder CNN, which is struggling to outpace Headline
In 2000, shortly after Hillary Clinton was elected to represent New York in the Senate, I was honored when she called seeking my advice.(snip)Hillary is a patriot who loves her country completely. Her deep commitment to public service and progressive causes runs through her veins. At the State Department, she proved to be an outstanding diplomat. Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) took some shots at his fellow Republicans during Tuesday’s Senate debate over the proposed bipartisan budget deal put together by Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI) and Sen. Patty Murray (D-WA). Joining the more moderate wing of the Republican Party, McCain declared his strong support for the deal and accused any members of the GOP who plan to vote against it of lacking “intellectual integrity.” McCain said he was supporting the bill for two reasons: One, to prevent the possibility of another government shutdown, and two, to alleviate the “devastating impact of sequestration on our military.” “The American people steadfastly
"They stole all my stuff and used taxpayer money to do it," John Hnatio, a Maryland small business owner, says of the U.S. government. Hnatio claims the government has put his company, FoodquestTQ, nearly out of business by stealing his firm´s software that was designed to be licensed to the Food and Drug Administration to monitor food safety. The FDA "took our ideas, plagiarized my doctoral dissertation on which a patent was based, and then they infringed on our patent. The result was that it decimated our business," he adds. Hnatio says his company has been left hanging by a
Less than a month after it was hailed as “a great diplomatic coup,” the so-called Geneva accord to halt Iran’s nuclear ambitions seems to have come unstuck. The official narrative in Tehran is that Iran signed nothing. “There is no treaty and no pact,” says Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Marzieh Afkham, “only a statement of intent.” Originally, Iran’s official media had presented the accord as a treaty (qarardad) but it now refers to a “letter of agreement” (tavafoq nameh). The initial narrative claimed that the P5+1 group of nations that negotiated the deal with Iran had recognized the Islamic Republic’s right to enrich uranium
On Tuesday, MSNBC host Krystal Ball devoted a portion of The Cycle to advocating for the establishment of a national minimum guaranteed income. She insisted that research shows such a program does not create disincentives to work and could “eliminate poverty” with merely the stroke of a pen. Ball began by highlighting protest movements around the world advocating “for what sounds like a radical idea: Guaranteeing every citizen a monthly minimum income, or what some supporters call a ‘mincome.’” She said that the gravity of the issue of income inequality in the United States has prompted American lawmakers to consider
The FBI says it has helped to disrupt or prevent nearly 150 shootings and violent attacks this year, in part by steering potential gunmen toward mental health professionals. It´s an achievement that stands out during a year when President Barack Obama made curbing gun violence a priority, yet has had little success in getting new restrictions enacted. There have been hundreds of these disruptions since 2011, Attorney General Eric Holder recently told an audience of police chiefs, touting the behind-the-scenes work of a small FBI unit based out of Quantico, Va. In most cases, the FBI has helped potential offenders get
