Holder calling for overhaul of
drug-related sentences

Associated Press, by Staff

WASHINGTON- With the U.S. facing massive overcrowding in its prisons, Attorney General Eric Holder is calling for major changes in the nation´s criminal justice system that would scale back the use of harsh sentences for certain drug-related crimes. In remarks prepared for delivery to the American Bar Association in San Francisco, Holder also favors diverting people convicted of low-level offenses to drug treatment and community service programs and expanding a prison program to allow for the release of some elderly, non-violent offenders. "We need to ensure that incarceration is used to punish, deter and rehabilitate -- not merely to

So this Administration´s position is to take away our guns or make us scared to death to use them for self defense and release more criminals sooner. Sounds like a plan only a left wing fool would love. I´m sure the msm is all for this. Next thing HUD will recommend that these criminals be placed in neighborhoods with low crime rates for "diversity" sake. So that every neighborhood will look more like the "hood" rappers love to rap about. Welcome to the change obama promised. God help us!

I find myself stunned that I agree with Holder on something. I absolutely want dangerous criminals locked away, but many of these offenders he is talking about are not dangerous and with help could make a positive impact on their communities.

The Donks are always on the lookout for potential new blocs do add to their party´s collection of wide ranging blocs. Druggies look like an interesting next target for them. Get the druggie vote. The Donks idea of smart politics is find the right goodies to give to each bloc, the Santa Claus party, as it were. And they know it´s difficult to compete against Santa Claus. And for LoFo´s, it Santa Claus doesn´t require an explanation. The goodies for the druggie bloc are of course relaxed drug laws, as well as not enforcing laws already on the books. Not enforcing is of course against the Constitution, but Obama often views the Constitution as a speed bump anyway.

Woe is us, America.

Drugs are a PYRAMID game ............... There ALWAYS need to be MORE buyers to support the system!

It is like Pornography and Prostitution ........ It is NOT a victimless crime!

Heroin and Meth drugs destroy lives.

It is idiotic and ideological naivety to release people back to the SAME ´non functioning´ communities ........... with NO Jobs and broken families.

NEW addicts HAVE to be caught up and addicted to keep the dealers in business!

Rural or Urban .......... the drug society will NOT fix itself ........ it is the only economy in many neighborhoods.

NOTE
Unless a ONE time medical counter treatment is discovered to permanently break addiction ............ the problem will NOT go away!

Either really FIGHT drugs by EXECUTING dealers and smugglers like Malaysia and Indonesia do ........ or ............... If we are going to decriminalize them .......... Put the addicts in warehouses with IV drugs supplied.

It´s safer and less violent on society .......... and NO NEW peoples lives have been destroyed.

I guess I´ll catch heck here, but honestly, I mostly agree with this. There was a story on CNN, yeah CNN, last night about the benefits of marijuana on a child suffering unrelenting seizures. It virtually cured her. Plus, the plant can make pretty much everything we need for survival. Don´t think we can eat it but we can wear it, write on it, and so on.

People with addictive personalities will find an addiction. One way or the other. From what I have heard about marijuana over the years, it´s far less harmful than alcohol. I say legalize all of it, tax it, and those that OD - they would have anyway.

Results: More people on welfare from both the released prisoners and from the layed-off prison employees. Final results: More people under direct government control. Think USSR circa 1958.

I think putting people in jail for smoking pot, doing crack and meth or even shooting heroin is a big waste of taxpayer money. If we´re going to do that I don´t know why boozers should get a pass, they´re far more dangerous to others than are pot smokers and other users who more or less put themselves to sleep with their drugs. Hard core addicts eventually take themselves out of society. Why should we pay good money to have it done for them? People should be responsible for themselves. If they´re hurting themselves that´s their lookout or the lookout of people who know them and care. I´m not letting anyone off the hook, I think I`m being much harder on them than the current law.

With total student loans exceeding $1 trillion, one must ask “is the tassel worth the financial hassle” when it comes to spending for prestigious colleges. Here’s my rough rule of thumb for taking on student loan debt: “Think long and hard about taking on more in total student loans than you expect to earn, on average, in your first 10 years after graduating.” That’s a mouthful so let me put some numbers on it. If you expect your average annual income over the first 10 years you are out of school to be $50,000, be really, really careful about taking

Vice President Joe Biden really did get ahead of President Barack Obama on accepting gay marriage in 2012 — and the White House really wasn’t happy about it, despite the two leaders’ many attempts to claim otherwise. That’s the story laid out in Jo Becker’s new book, “Forcing the Spring,” which documents the past few years of successful efforts to expand the legalization of gay marriage, according to an advance copy obtained by POLITICO. Speculation that Biden’s comments on “Meet the Press” in May 2012 were meant as a trial balloon, Becker writes, came from people “not privy to the

The study’s findings, to be published Wednesday in the Journal of Neuroscience, are similar to those of past research linking chronic, long-term marijuana use with mental illness and changes in brain development. Two white adults divided the toys, one equally and the other unequally. Seventy per cent of the toddlers chose to play with the researcher who distributed the toys fairly. But in a second test, when one researcher favoured a white recipient over an Asian one, they picked the ‘fair’ researcher less often, the journal Frontiers in Psychology reports. How do you ensure that you won’t be ostracized, denounced, or fired if you are a media celebrity, captain of industry, or high public official? For some, sexist banter is certainly no problem. Stand-up comedian Bill Maher called Sarah Palin a c–t and a tw-t, but suffered no ill consequences. David Letterman joked on air that Sarah Palin’s 14-year-old daughter had had sex with Alex Rodriguez during a New York Yankees game. There was no downside to that either. President Obama tosses around “sweetie” as he wishes. No problem with that. No one believes Barack could be condescending to women.
