George Will Slams Rep. Gohmert
For ‘Causing Chaos’: House GOP
‘Cannot Govern This Country’

Mediaite, by Evan McMurry

Original Article

Posted By:JoniTx, 8/11/2013 2:35:49 PM

Appearing on This Week With George Stephanopoulos, Republican Congressman Louie Gohmert battled not only the Democratic panelists but also conservative pundit George Will over the wisdom of shutting down the government to prevent Obamacare funding. Gohmert strongly condemned President Barack Obama’s argument at Friday’s news conference that the GOP’s “holy grail” was enying millions of people health insurance. “That’s a false narrative,” Gohmert said. “He says we’re trying to keep people from having health care. That’s just not true. That is an absolute, blatant lie. We’re not trying to keep anybody from getting health care.

I assume your advice to the Egyptians under Morsi would have been similar to McCain and Graham´s counsel? Better tread lightly about forcing the masses against their will - you are inviting a repeat of history.

I don´t think the bill can be fixed and we can never beat the Democrat lies and spin if we don´t fight. Will is comfy as a crochety outsider, yet still a DC insider. He doesn´t relate to outside the Beltway life. I admire Rep Gohmert´s courage and leadership. We may lose if we fight, we damn sure will lose if we don´t. We can´t keep letting the democrats slide. FIGHT.

And just how would you suggest fixing the bill with control of 1/2 of one brach of government?

You can only use the power you have, not what you wished you had.

Conservatives like to get on email lists and websites and write back and forth to each other about how great things would be if only they got the chance and yet will NEVER take any chances!

George Will and his ilk have become the problem.

Why don´t Republicans start saying: Democrats want to cause healthcare to cost everyone half their salary. Say it enough over and over..let them say it is not true but repeat it over and over. I actually think Dems do not care if half our salaries go to pay for Obamacare so why not accuse them of this. Republicans need to be proactive and aggressive rather than meek and defensive. Let us all just start accusing Dems of whatever we believe. I personally think Dems are trying to destroy the family unit. So why don´t I just start saying and writing this everywhere and deny it is false. We can all pay this game and get the Dems on the defensive. Oh..and why must Republicans always attack other Repubs? Oh unless they are moderates or liberals. The stupid party sure lives up to its name.

George Will was being absurd and ridiculous. The House has control of the US purse. They should use that control to defund the horrible democratic obamacare law.

Free clue, Will... The republicans will not shut down government. They can pass a fully funded budget that excludes all things referring to obamacare spending and let the democrats not pass a budget bill. If the Senate democrats do not pass the budget bill, the non-essential part of our federal government cannot operate. Tell me how that would be a bad thing.

I just punished myself for no reason at all by reading the comments after this Media-ite article. At a time when our Congress needs a whopping great kick in the pants for going along with so much damaging legislation, we don´t need the likes of old boy´ club George Will kicking some of our brightest and best in the teeth for daring to speak out for what they know is right. Our government and media stink to high heaven.

I sometimes like Louie Gohmert a lot and sometimes I wish he´d stop enjoying the spotlight quite so much with his controversial statements. We do not want to shut down the government. Nobody is advocating that. We cannot defund Obamacare all at once. We can, however, delay this, delay that, defund this, improve this, eliminate that until the whole thing collapses. The White House is terrified that not enough young, healthy people are going to volunteer to pay for expensive health insurance they don´t want or need. The WH is quite right to be anxious. It´s not going to happen. The exchanges, in October, won´t be sufficient, won´t be ready and won´t work. It´s too late to stop Obamacare in its entirety, but we can tinker and fix and throw out until we end up with something that won´t destroy the country.

There´s been this debate going on regarding the relative place of the legislative authority and the executive authority since Oliver Cromwell and his Roundheads defeated King Charles and the Cavaliers.

Some continue to be upset about that outcome ~ George Will is such a person ~ A ROYALIST ~ a RIGHT WINGER.

Louie Gohmert, not exactly my favorite member of Congress, is actually on the side of God, Jesus, Mary, the Holy Ghost and the Prophets themselves in this regard ~ he ain´t no right winger Fur Shur.

The legislative authority should always hold the authority to severely counsel the executive, even if they have to drag him out of the palace and dispose of him.

BTW, that discovery was made earlier in Vehice. One Doge exceeded his authority. The Senate disposed of him in the prescribed manner. No subsequent Doge got out of line.

We are modern people though so it´s OK to cut off funds to stay the executive´s hand and prevent him from wasting the nation´s patrimony on tom foolery.

Here is my problem. I try my best to consider the opinion of moderate republicans. However, anytime an issue comes up, they consistently take some tapioca strategy. We have followed them until we elected Obama (twice!) and now they want to advise us on how to handle Obamacare? Tell me moderates, what has your team done to deserve any credibility against the onslaught of liberalism? Give me a radical lover of liberty rather than a gentlemanly loser.

If you want to charge ahead to slaughter join Louie. The Dems are licking their chops.

Shut the government down. When social security checks don´t go out, when the military doesn´t get paid, Obama goes on TV and announces that due to extraordinary circumstances he must raise the debt ceiling unilaterally. Republicans insist on hurting our seniors and our brave men and women in the military. I refuse to allow them to get away with it. This measure will fund the government for 30 days. In that time I hope Republicans will think of their fellow Americans first and not their own selfish interests.

A better strategy would be to put every thing into winning the Senate and forcing a showdown in 2015 when we have a stronger hand.

The GOP IS the stupid party. The first words out of any member of the party when discussing the defunding of Obamacare should be, "We are only defunding 1 small part of the government, Obamacare. If Obama and the Democrats choose to ignore or veto our continuing resolution and shut down the government, let it be on their heads, not ours."

Maybe I´m wrong, but I don´t see Gohmert as someone particularly affected by the limelight.

I do think, however, that he has no business standing up there and taking this politically dangerous position without presenting at least a clue as to what HE would propose to address healthcare, and healthcare for everyone.

Thank you #16. Ever notice the short-sightedness of RINOs
1) We need a survival strategy and they only thoughts are always a political strategy
2) What country has ever rid itself of nationalized healthcare? Anyone? Bueller, Bueller?
3) Obama has martialed the forces of the IRS, NSA, EPA, FBI et al., against us and RINOs think we can somehow win another election?
4) What would it take for RINOs to decide it was time to lay down the gauntlet?

If the goal here was to provide every American with "affordable" medical insurance (no one ever defines what affordable means), then, given the cost of the program that´s been put into law, wouldn´t it have been orders of magnitude less expensive for the government simply to buy a medical insurance plan for every citizen or, perhaps, for those who could not afford one?

That no one ever goes back to review what was the intellectual underpinning of this adventure in public financing, perhaps the ultimate goal of the Affordable Care Act is not to provide medical insurance to those who can not afford it or prefer not to purchase it.

Another Beltway Elitist here to dictate to the American people what they should think and do. I despise these full-of-themselves DC cocktail party aficionados, whether Will, Kristol, or Krauthamer.

Rep. Gohmert speaks for the people of his District. A concept that has been lost on the elitists and other "elected residents" of the 51st and most powerful State, Washington DC.

#16 I agree with you completely. They can have my VA benefits too. I just don´t see how we win this fight this year. Obama´s delayed a number of provisions. Others will fall away. 2015 isn´t too late. The GOP can use 2014 as a referendum on a free market alternative to Obamacare. Just my opinion but I think we´d be in a much stronger position to fight.

Yes, the PR battle of the party must be won. That is far more important than the future of the country. /s

As far as I´m concerned, if Obamacare is not defunded (delaying it only plays into the dems hands) then this country is down the tubes anyway. I would rather go down fighting, wouldn´t you? Well, no, obviously RINOs wouldn´t, because they care about the party first and foremost, just like most dems care more for their party than the country. Louie speaks for me. He speaks for his constituents, of which I am one, and he speaks for the good of the country. He´s hitting a little too close to the truth for dems and RINOs, so he must be ridiculed and destroyed. It´s what they (and I do include the appeasers on this site) do.
I DO NOT CARE about the good of nor the future of the Republican party if they do not fight this fight. Delaying it will do more harm than good, and shutting down the government is all we have. So do it. Shut the sucker down and leave it down until Nov. 14, 2014, for all I care.

Essential services continue.
2014 is too late to kill Obamacare. It will be too deeply entrenched.

George Will has lived and cocktailed in the Boomtown Beltway for years and sounds like a Demonrat much of the time, when he is not sounding like a scared Republican.

Steffy is just a snarky Leftist/Liberal/Progressive who does not care that his party leader is destroying the country. He is just so thrilled that a Demonrat is in power, that´s all that matters to him.

Sorry for second post. Stop calling Obamacare insurance. Obamacare actually makes insurance illegal. An insurance policy with a high deductible which covers Big things and lets you pay for little things is not allowed. Imagine what car insurance would cost if it covered oil changes and inspections. It wouldn´t be insurance, it would be Pooled Cost Sharing.

FTA: “Even though we’re one-half of the legislating body from which no spending occurs unless we agree, that is a position that allows us to force others to adhere to the Constitution,” Gohmert replied. “We don’t have to wait for the Supreme Court. We can force that. And we can say, ‘You’re going to abide by the Constitution whether the Supreme Court gets it wrong or right.’ We have the ability to force respect for the law. And some of us think that we ought to force them to do that.”

#15 gives about the most untruthful description of "shutting down the government" one can imagine. So untruthful, in fact, I wonder if it´s coming from a democrat. If you can recall the last time the government was shut down, it involved no loss ot essential services such as military pay or social security checks and the like. It only involved non-essential services.

George Will lost my respect in January 2009, when he hosted a dinner party for Obama and so-called conservative columnists just before the Inauguration. I can´t remember any Democrat columnist ever hosting a dinner for a Republican president-elect. What is the purpose? George Will, Peggy Noonan, and Colin Powell might as well have sold their souls to Satan, because they certainly are traitors and should be made to wear a scarlet "T" whenever they appear as panelists on any talk show.

Pass a bill funding all of government with the exception of Obamacare and send it to the Senate.

The Senate and the media will screech about how Grandma and Grandpa and all of the needy will be left without coverage (which is nonsense).

The Repubs should then put on a PR campaign stating that it is the Dems who shut down the government because they are unwilling to compromise.

Does anyone here actually know how many House GOPers are willing to vote to "shut down" the government over ObamaCare? Without a realistic idea of how many soldiers you´ve got, all this talk about shut downs and defunding is a tempest in a teapot.

In a legislative body where 40 to 50 Republicans may be ready to cave on immigration "reform", is it realistic to expect a united front on defunding ObamaCare?

The hard fact is that elections really do have consequences. American voters chose to empower the Democrats in 3 of the last 4 election cycles. Whether or not they knew what they were doing, to some extent they are going to reap what they´ve sown.

California Unemployment Holds
Steady at Dismal 8.1%
Breitbart California, by William Bigelow    Original Article
Posted By: JoniTx- 4/20/2014 5:14:55 AM     Post Reply
California’s unemployment rate is rotten and holding steady. In March, according to the Los Angeles Times, the rate was 8.1%. In February, it was exactly the same. The Bureau of Labor Statistics reported that the state only added 11,800 net new jobs in March, many of them in construction, government, education, and health services. The greatest gains were in professional and business services, with 3,100 new positions. But the jobs numbers in hospitality, manufacturing, and leisure dipped, and the biggest drop came in financial activities, as the slowing rate of mortgages forced banks to fire employees. On Easter weekend, Diogo Morgado portraying Jesus Christ is on screens everywhere. Morgado is the star of Son of God, by executive producers Mark Burnett and wife Roma Downey, which continues to thrive in theaters, pulling in $59 million since its debut Feb. 28. Downey believes there will be a "spike" in attendance at theaters this weekend because of the spiritual holiday for a film that has already proved a box-office force. "People are in that head-space and in that heart-space. It´s that time of the year where people are much more reflective and much more open to connecting with

SCARBOROUGH, Maine- John C. Houbolt, an engineer whose contributions to the U.S. space program were vital to NASA´s successful moon landing in 1969, has died. He was 95. Houbolt died Tuesday at a nursing home in Scarborough, Maine, of complications from Parkinson´s disease, his son-in-law Tucker Withington, of Plymouth, Mass., confirmed Saturday. As NASA describes on its website, while under pressure during the U.S.-Soviet space race, Houbolt was the catalyst in securing U.S. commitment to the science and engineering theory that eventually carried the Apollo crew to the moon and back safely. His efforts in the early 1960s are largely

Democrats have a problem and everyone knows it. President Obama calls it a “congenital disease.” If they can’t control it, Obama could spend the final years of his presidency battling not only a Republican House but also a Republican Senate. Democrats don’t vote in midterm elections. That’s an exaggeration, of course, but the core of the Democratic coalition is made up of many people who turn out to vote only in presidential elections. The Republican coalition — older and whiter — suffers less from midterm falloff. So much has been made of the building blocks the president assembled to win his

Once the province of activists and stoners, the traditional pot holiday of April 20 has gone mainstream in the first state in the nation to legalize recreational marijuana. Tens of thousands gathered for a weekend of Colorado cannabis-themed festivals and entertainment, from a marijuana industry expo called the Cannabis Cup at a trade center north of downtown, to 4/20-themed concerts at the legendary Red Rocks Amphitheater — acts include Slightly Stoopid and Snoop Dog — to a massive festival in the shadow of the state capitol where clouds of cannabis smoke are expected to waft at 4:20 p.m. MDT Sunday.

Last night, Chris Hayes face off against Assemblywoman Michele Fiore over the ongoing saga of the Bundy Ranch. Fiore reminds us why we love TV. (Video) Fiore for the win! The Assemblywoman is feisty, unflappable, stays on message, goes at Hayes hard, and comes out looking great. A terrific segment and a good interview by Hayes, amazingly enough. The best part was when she left him flat-footed right at the end after catching him with the slaughter question. Although Hayes salvages the moment for himself with the barbecue crack. WASHINGTON — The Internal Revenue Service and other federal agencies awarded about $415,000 in contracts to a license plate-tracking company before Homeland Security leaders dropped a plan for similar work amid privacy complaints. Federal offices such as the Forest Service and the U.S. Air Force´s Air Combat Command chose Livermore, Calif.-based Vigilant Solutions to provide access to license plate databases or tools used to collect plate information, according to government procurement records compiled by Bloomberg. Vigilant, a closely held company, has received such work since 2009. In February, Jeh Johnson, secretary of the Department of Homeland Security

WASHINGTON— A Western official says the United States is considering deploying about 150 soldiers for military exercises to begin in Poland and Estonia in the next few weeks. The exercises would follow Russia´s buildup of forces near its border with Ukraine and its annexation last month of Ukraine´s Crimean Peninsula. Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel said earlier this week that the U.S. is looking for ways to reassure its NATO allies of its strong commitment to collective defense. The Western official says ground exercises in Poland and Estonia would last about two weeks but that such exercises would continue on a

By giving the president “the authority to deny visas to United Nations ambassadors who are known terrorists,” he

U.S. Border Control agents detained 147 people suspected of being in the country illegally from a stash house Thursday afternoon in Alton — shortly after 81 people were found hiding in makeshift huts in McAllen. The 147 people were discovered in a house at the 8900 block of North Bentsen Palm Drive. The White House is going to war with another fox — and this time, it’s personal. The Wall Street Journal reports that a red fox has been causing chaos around the White House, tripping security alarms, digging up Michelle’s garden and distracting the president from his duties. The Secret Service won’t give any details about how often the fox trips the White House’s obviously sophisticated security alarms, but rest assured, officials say, they’re watching. President Obama was apparently “stunned” to see the fox roaming freely down the oft-photographed White House colonnade, home to the world’s shortest, but most dramatic, outdoor strolls. According to the Roanoke Times, "seven multiracial students, calling themselves ´The Committee,´" have also demanded the school "acknowledge and apologize for participating in chattel slavery." They want recognition of "Martin Luther King Jr. Day on the undergraduate campus" and an end to "neo-Confederates" marching across campus "to the Lee Chapel on Lee-Jackson Day." The students say they will "engage in civil disobedience" if their demands are not met by September 1st. They added: "The

For Hillary Clinton, having her own baby grandchild to kiss on the campaign trail, could be one of the biggest boosts to her possible presidential election campaign. Although the former Secretary of State and First Lady has not said if she will run in 2016, the arrival of her first grandchild will soften her image, analysts have said. While Chelsea only revealed her pregnancy on Thursday, supporters of her mother have already started cooing over a possible baby in the White House. With the Clintons having a near-royal status in the U.S., the announcement of a new arrival due this fall has sent

GREENSBORO, Ga. — Golf holes the size of pizzas. Soccer balls on the back nine. A mulligan on every hole. These are some of the measures — some would say gimmicks — that golf courses across the country have experimented with to stop people from quitting the game. Golf has always reveled in its standards and rich tradition. But increasingly a victim of its own image and hidebound ways, golf has lost five million players in the last decade, according to the National Golf Foundation, with 20 percent of the existing 25 million golfers apt to quit in the next few years. People under 35 have especially spurned the game, saying it takes too

Hi, everybody. For millions of Americans, this time of year holds great meaning. Earlier this week, we hosted a Passover Seder at the White House, and joined Jewish families around the world in their re-tellings of the story of the Exodus and the victory of faith over oppression. And this Sunday, Michelle, Malia, Sasha, and I will join our fellow Christians around the world in celebrating the Resurrection of Christ, the salvation he offered the world, and the hope that comes with the Easter season. These holy days have their roots in miracles that took place long ago. And yet, they still inspire us, guide us, and strengthen us today. They remind us of our

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid said Thursday that a family of dissident ranchers and their supporters in his home state of Nevada are ´domestic terrorists,´ citing this week´s standoff with the federal government´s Bureau of Land Management. Cliven Bundy has refused to pay grazing fees for land where his hundreds of cattle roam every day. The land is owned by the federal government, which says he owes more than $1 million. Bundy, however, insists that since his family has been using the land since the 1870s, Uncle Sam can´t collect the grazing fees. A tense standoff developed this week after

To "honor the dignity and work of immigrants," Democratic House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi helps Bishop Marc Andrus wash the feet of two children Thursday at Saint John the Evangelist Episcopal Church in San Francisco. Pelosi also used the occasion to talk about passing HR15 - bipartisan immigration legislation that her office says would "reduce the deficit by nearly $1 trillion, secure our borders, unite our families, protect our workers and provide an earned pathway to citizenship." The Democratic leader´s ceremony coincides with Pope Francis´ similar ceremony in Rome to mark Holy Week.

WASHINGTON--Rushing to an afternoon vote last month, Sen. Ted Cruz hopped the underground tram to the U.S. Capitol from his office across the street. The Texan planted his black ostrich cowboy boots in the middle of the small subway car without getting so much as a nod from the other senators--Republican or Democrat--amiably chatting or huddled in their seats. Mr. Cruz finds himself standing alone a lot these days. His response to the cold shoulders: "The establishment despised Ronald Reagan" before he became president, "but the people loved him." Imagine a vendor on the National Mall, selling burgers and dogs, who hasn’t paid his rent in 20 years. He refuses to recognize his landlord, the National Park Service, as a legitimate authority. Every court has ruled against him, and fines have piled up. What’s more, the effluents from his food cart are having a detrimental effect on the spring grass in the capital. Would an armed posse come to his defense, aiming their guns at the park police? Would the lawbreaker get prime airtime on Fox News, breathless updates in the Drudge Report, a sympathetic ear from Tea Party Republicans?

Conservative columnist Ann Coulter — who used her talk show platform in the last presidential election cycle to campaign hard for former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney — has taken up the mantra once again, calling on Republicans to give the failed White House bidder another shot in 2016. She made the suggestion during a discussion on Sean Hannity’s radio show while speaking of her new book, “Never Trust a Liberal Over 3-Especially a Republican.” Ms. Coulter also addressed the question of Mr. Romney’s shortcomings by saying that his 2012 loss wasn’t entirely his fault. “I think too much blame, not only in this

Prominent Washington correspondents are accusing President Obama and his aides of knowingly stretching the truth on issues like the so-called women´s pay gap just to create controversy and keep issues -- and the president -- relevant. Washington Post columnist Ruth Marcus kicked off the attack last week when she blasted as “demagoguery” the administration´s tactics during the pay gap debate. “The level of hyperbole -- actually, of demagoguery -- that Democrats have engaged in here is revolting,” she wrote. CBS White House Correspondent Major Garrett then weighed in this week in his National Journal
