The e-mail service used by National Security Agency (NSA) leaker Edward Snowden is suspending operations. And they can’t tell us why — although this cryptic post heavily suggests it has something to do with a government request for information: I have been forced to make a difficult decision: to become complicit in crimes against the American people or walk away from nearly ten years of hard work by shutting down Lavabit. After significant soul searching, I have decided to suspend operations. I wish that I could legally share with you the events that led to my decision. I cannot.
Our Federal Government is an apparently evil entity. Shutting down a private business because a man told us the Truth about our government´s snooping. Time for the States to take back control from the Goliath.
I wish every internet service that was forced to give private information to the government without a warrant would do what this guy has done. Shut it all down until we KNOW what they are doing to us. These services that comply with these unconstitutional demands are complicit in the spying. They have the obligation to suspend their service if they are forced to become spies.
Gestapo got to him. Hopefully he was able to wipe the servers before they confiscate them all. Snowden is not the traitor. The traitor is anyone who supports these acts of tyranny aginst a supposedly free people. The danger is not from Moslems. It is not from Mexicans or Russians. America´s real enemy is from within.
We all have to watch (well, I guess if you are retired or unemployed) the President´s news conference today which is scheduled for 3 p.m. eastern time. You can catch it on C-span (no commercials) - I´ll watch it on my computer. Let´s see if any member of the press asks the President even one question about this article. They all read the Washington Post, so they all know about it. The First Amendment should be very important to them too.
#13 - Ordinarily, I´d never watch him; try not to listen to him as well, but I thought after his performance on Leno´s show it is important that we listen carefully to his responses (true, everything may already be scripted), and also see how clear-eyed he is. And I am a member of the distaff.
There is no question that Washington DC is Law Breaker, Constitution Smasher, City! And, that all of Congress is on "the take", with billions of corporate dollars bribing to aquire privilege laws, and the Diane Sawyer TV news actors covering it all up. Time to read about Hitler´s socialist third Reich, and Stalin´s Soviet communism to see what our bankrupting federal government has in common with these two horrifying regimes. See the simple parallels of a controlling Hitler and Stalin with all of our own people-controlling Feinsteins, Durbins, Reids, Puglosis, Hillarys, Barneys, Bloomies Bernankes, Holders, as they attempt to drive us all into destructive bankruptcy and mass domination. America is the greatest country in modern history except for these few elected and non elected monsters and their financial corporation who are all out of control. Read this history of modern tyranny: Stalin, Hitler, FDR, LBJ. That should do it. We must identify and stop the law breakers and their Goebbels TV propagandists. We are the most fortunate people in all of history and the inventions, technology, communictons, educational awakenings taking place at such a rapid pace, it´s a revelation. We live in a world of miracles. Wake up, speak up !
Cryptography should be regarded as arms and protected by an amendment similar to the second amendment. "Congress shall make no law abridging the right to encrypt communications." The NSA itself sought to call encryption software "munitions" and restrict its use. It is clear that the founders would have included this in the constitution if they lived today. Mark Levin has been making a case on this point talking about the history of general warrants. We will see if he has something similar to this suggestion in his new book.
To those who say our government is our servant and therefore should neither spy secretly on us nor keep their information secret from us:
Government is indeed our servant, by right, by Common Law, by our Constitution, and by statute. That much is true.
But our government cannot resist our enemies, foreign and domestic, without observing, through secret surveillance, as much as the law allows them to observe.
And where their observations give them even the least bit of leverage against our enemies, our servants in government must keep that information from us until the details (and technology) become irrelevant, though they must keep our Congress informed.
It appears that Lavabit was threatened with something pretty big forcing them to shutdown their email service. Holdie must have come up with another creative interpretation of the law that give Obie/Holdie authority to prevent Snowden from communicating with Putie, at least through this particular email service.
Psst...Snowden...try yahoo or gmail, bro. I still can´t believe what he did.
Incompetence: Mr. President, you might not remember her, but Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius is the one running the disastrous ObamaCare launch. You once met her. You two should get acquainted. Jimmy Carter was the most infamous micro-manager to be president, pestering commanders of the ill-fated 1980 Iran hostage rescue mission by two-way radio, and personally reviewing White House tennis court schedules. As to the opposite, Ronald Reagan was relentlessly accused of being out of touch. "Surround yourself with the best people you can find, delegate authority, and don´t interfere as long as the policy you´ve decided upon is being carried
National Security: The theft of a truck carrying dangerous radioactive material combined with terrorist group activity in the hemisphere shows that the need for a secure border involves more than illegal immigration. Mexican authorities said Wednesday they found the stolen truck and likely recovered all of the radioactive cobalt taken by a group of thieves who were probably after the truck, unaware it carried a deadly cargo. Cobalt-60, which is used in radiation therapy to treat cancer, was being transported from a hospital in the northern city of Tijuana to a radioactive waste storage center. But what if the thieves were terrorists
Homeland Insecurity: The radical Muslim Brotherhood is often dismissed in the media as a distant threat. In fact, this sworn U.S. enemy isn´t just overseas. It´s inside the gates of the White House. At least six American Islamist activists who work closely with the Obama administration are Muslim Brotherhood operatives who enjoy strong influence over U.S. policy, according to the Investigative Project on Terrorism and the Center for Security Policy in Washington. As we list the worst of these subversives, bear in mind that the FBI in 2004 uncovered the U.S. Muslim Brotherhood´s strategic plan to infiltrate the U.S. government and sabotage
The world premiere of the “Ballad for Trayvon Martin for Orchestra and Jazz Quartet” is set for tonight. Princeton University’s director of its jazz-studies program composed the work in honor of the Florida teen. Anthony D. J. Branker told the Star-Ledger that the piece is intended to “be a form of healing” after Martin’s death and the controversial court case that followed it. The ballad, which will be performed by the university’s official orchestra and jazz ensemble, is intended to be a tribute to victims of racial violence, Branker explained. He hopes that the performance will be “one that speaks to
Sarah Palin on Thursday dismissed the attacks of former MSNBC host Martin Bashir, saying in her first comments since his resignation that she’s “used to it.” “At this point, I’m used to it. That’s kind of a sad state of affairs to have to admit that I am used to it,” Palin said on Fox News’s “Fox & Friends.” She called attacks like Bashir’s “par for the course.” Bashir quit on Wednesday for comments he made on his Nov. 15 broadcast during which he called Sarah Palin “a world class idiot” and referenced a diary of a former plantation manager who forced a
RUSH: Our buddy Jim Pethokoukis at the American Enterprise Institute has a piece, "The Most Important Economic Chart in US Politics ... is Kind of Misleading." His points here is that we cannot measure income inequality the same way that we always have, as I said (quite cleverly, I might add) at the beginning of the program. America used to be that you had a mom and a dad and they got married. The mom and dad were a man and a woman, and the mom and dad after getting married and working, lived in a little apartment. They saved
RUSH: You know, it´s... Well, I was gonna say it´s fascinating. It´s not fascinating. It was just interesting all week along, ladies and gentlemen. When I got back here on Tuesday, one of the first things I did was reference a piece I´d stumbled across on Saturday written by Andrew McCarthy at National Review Online about how the media treats what goes on in Washington as a soap opera. You have probably heard me reference this, and it´s worth repeating. A soap opera is unreal but it hooks viewers with never-ending suspense and drama and cliffhangers and heroes and villains. But
RUSH: Let me address something here. Right when the program began, Mr. Snerdley asked me, "So are you gonna play all these pope sound bites that you´ve got building up?" I said, "No, I´m not gonna play ´em," and this is why, exactly what we´re talking about now. This is another manufactured controversy. I happen to be a villain in this massive soap opera script. I give you an illustration. Remember there was a woman once who testified before a fake congressional committee who demanded $3,000 worth of birth control pills, paid for by everybody else, and we calculated that you´d
One of Barack Obama´s most irritating rhetorical tropes is his oft-stated aversion to "cynicism." It is vexing in substantial part because of its breathtaking and demagogic hypocrisy: Obama inveighs against cynicism in a cynical effort to manipulate the gullible, to make them feel good about their naiveté. That helps explain how he has maintained a base of support, albeit a shrinking one, as the disaster that is ObamaCare has unfolded. In his 1892 comedy "Lady Windermere´s Fan," Oscar Wilde defined a cynic as "a man who knows the price of everything and the value of nothing." In an essay for
Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus said his opposition research shop is targeting Hillary Clinton ahead of the 2016 election. Priebus said the RNC is trying to focus on the midterm elections, but added there should be a greater emphasis on the potential presidential candidate. “Well, we have — so our research shop, along with America Rising, has been focusing in on Hillary Clinton,” Priebus said on The Hugh Hewitt Show on Thursday. “But I agree with you that there needs to be a more of a focus.” American Rising is a GOP research firm started by Mitt Romney´s former campaign manager, Matt
Chris Matthews joined MSNBC’s Thomas Roberts Thursday to discuss his upcoming interview with President Obama, saying he would ask the President some “easier questions” before getting into “fun stuff”. MATTHEWS: [I’ll] get into questions that I want to get into, with executive management and political dysfunction in this country that we talk about all of the time on the program and get into some easier questions, for example, voter suppression efforts by the Republicans so he can bite into that. Obama’s appearance on the Hardball College Tour comes at a time when the President faces his lowest approval ratings among young voters
Hysteria: The Environmental Protection Agency chief says global warming is the most urgent threat to public health. Given that the whole climate change frightfest has fallen apart, how do people keep saying such things? EPA Administrator Gina McCarthy says she has dedicated her life to protecting the environment. It´s too bad she is not more dedicated to reality. If she were, her comments Monday before the left-wing Center for American Progress would have been different. But McCarthy knew who she was speaking to and told the group what it wanted to hear when she said, "I really see no greater issue and
I have never been much of a conspiracy theorist. For me it was always Oswald by himself from the Texas School Book Depository and nothing in the intervening fifty years has disabused me of this notion. For the most part, I’m an Occam’s Razor kind of guy — the most obvious explanation is likely to be true. (Snip) To put it bluntly, Occam’s Razor has moved. Things that were once possibilities now seem almost certainties to me. Principal among those is that Obama’s academic records are perpetually unavailable for a reason — and that reason is most likely that they reveal
One of President Obama´s chief political assets has been his ability to excite young people like almost no politician in history. But the days of America´s youth fawning over the president are over. A new Harvard University Institute of Politics poll released Wednesday confirms what other surveys have shown in recent months: Millennials have soured on Obama so much this year that their opinion of him largely mirrors the American public´s. Even though Obama does not ever have to face another election, he should be worried about the findings for a couple of reasons, which we will dive into momentarily.
President Obama will cast growing income inequality and a decline in economic mobility as a “fundamental threat to the American dream” during a speech Wednesday in Washington. The speech will serve as an early preview for next year’s State of the Union address, according to a White House official, who said Obama would focus much of his energy over the next three years on the issue. “The decisions we make over the next few years will determine whether or not our children will grow up in an America where, if you work hard, you can get ahead,” the official said.
Good stuff from Jonathan Turley at today’s House hearing on executive power, although I regret that I couldn’t find a more user-friendly format for you to watch. There’s no compilation clip; you’ll have to make do with the C-SPAN embed by fast-forwarding to the time cues I give you and being patient while the vid buffers (and buffers, and buffers).(Snip)That brings us to point two: Even if Congress can’t stop Obama, the courts can. The problem there, though, says Turley, is that O and the DOJ have argued successfully in many cases that no one has standing to sue him
A stunning new study unveiled on Fox News´ Hannity finds that President Barack Obama’s White House calendar records just one face-to-face meeting between Obama and his Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Kathleen Sebelius in the more than three-and-a-half years leading up to the disastrous Obamacare launch. The startling statistic comes from a new Government Accountability Institute (GAI) analysis of Obama’s own official White House calendar, as well as the Politico presidential calendar, and raises new questions about Obama’s executive leadership and management throughout the implementation of his singular legislative achievement. More alarming still, the president’s schedule lists 277 private
[Video] President Obama on Wednesday declared that addressing income inequality would be the focus of “all” of the White House’s efforts “for the rest of my presidency.” In a sweeping address that touched on raising the minimum wage, investing in infrastructure and ending tax breaks for the wealthy, Obama warned that the American economy has become “profoundly unequal,” declaring economic mobility the “challenge of our time.” “The combined trends of increasing inequality and decreasing mobility pose a fundamental threat to the American dream, our way of life, and what we stand for around the globe,” he said in an hour-long
Just over two weeks ago, MSNBC host Martin Bashir delivered a harsh piece of commentary that culminated in the suggestion that someone should “s-h-i-t” in former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin‘s (R-AK) mouth. Bashir offered an abject apology on his next broadcast, but a chorus of critics continued to demand action against the host. After a reported “vacation” for the host earlier this week, Bashir announced, Wednesday afternoon, that MSNBC and Martin Bashir are parting ways. Here’s the statement from Martin Bashir, via email: After making an on-air apology, I asked for permission to take some additional time out around the Thanksgiving holiday. Upon
Nineteen people stood behind President Obama on stage in the Executive Office Building Tuesday as the president kicked off a new campaign to promote Obamacare. One of those people, a young Florida woman named Monica Weeks, introduced Obama after telling the story of being struck with Crohn´s Disease at age 19 and receiving expensive treatments for several years that were covered by her parents´ health care plan — because Obamacare allowed her to remain on that plan until age 26. Now, Weeks said, she has coverage through a job. "The Affordable Care Act gives young adults who are just starting
Amid an array of “knock-out” attacks against a number of Jews in Brooklyn’s Crown Heights neighborhood, a city councilwoman pointed to the success of the Jewish community as triggering the aggression. Councilwoman-elect Laurie Cumbo emphasized that while she “admire[s] the Jewish community immensely” for its work ethic, black teens may see it differently. “While I personally regard this level of tenacity, I also recognize that for others, the accomplishments of the Jewish community triggers feelings of resentment, and a sense that Jewish success is not also their success,” Cumbo, who was recently elected, wrote in a letter. Chief among the issues
Continued global warming poses a risk of rapid, drastic changes in some human and natural systems, a scientific panel warned Tuesday, citing the possible collapse of polar sea ice, the potential for a mass extinction of plant and animal life and the threat of immense dead zones in the ocean. At the same time, some worst-case fears about climate change that have entered the popular imagination can be ruled out as unlikely, at least over the next century, the panel found. These include a sudden belch of methane from the ocean or the Arctic that would fry the planet, as
America is facing a wave of strikes by its fast-food workers on Thursday a day after Barack Obama warned that inequality in the USA had soared to the point that it now posed "a fundamental threat to the American dream". Low-paid workers in McDonalds, Kentucky Fried Chicken and other fast-food outlets in 100 cities across America were due to start rolling strikes to protest at the low level of America´s $7.25 (£4.45) federal minimum wage. The strikes are the latest part of a mushrooming publicity campaign for higher wages among those working so-called "McJobs", with fast-food restaurants seen as a
The president put in his ask to Disney CEO Bob Iger at a private meeting with entertainment moguls during his Nov. 26 visit to Jeffrey Katzenberg´s DreamWorks Animation. [snip] If you have any doubt as to how much of a sports junkie Barack Obama is, check in with the entertainment moguls who attended a private briefing with the president Nov. 26 before his speech at Jeffrey Katzenberg´s DreamWorks Animation campus in Glendale. At the end of the conversation -- which touched on a myriad of topics, from piracy to Iran -- Obama revealed what´s at the top of his bucket
