Mystery of the dark shadowy line
pictured shooting from a cloud
over Florida beach that has
left weather experts stumped

An odd dark vertical line that was observed in the sky over Florida earlier this week has left meteorologists puzzled. The shadowy apparition was spotted and photographed by Mike Weight at Honeymoon Island State Park near Dunedin, Florida, Wednesday. Weight was walking on the beach at around 12.30pm. The day was bright and sunny, but there were thunderheads forming to the east. ‘I was looking North when I observed what looked like a ray of dark light coming down from a small cloud to the surface of the Gulf about a half-mile away,’ the 73-year-old man wrote in an email

meteorologists suggest a contrail shadow:

´´For a contrail shadow to be seen, atmospheric conditions must be just right, with the sun hanging low on the horizon.´´

but Mr Weight was taking his walk at noon thirty. hmmmmmm...

This is obviously a pyro-galactic negative emission stream. It´s vertical vortex is a typical manifestation.

This is called a volumetric shadow. No way to know exactly what´s up in the sky/atmosphere causing it but it´s not as mysterious as some would lead us to believe.

The answer is contrail. I saw a contrail shadow from our flight on a trip to Australia a few years ago. I had a number of people convinced they were looking at the international date line!

Looks more like a low-powered waterspout to me. Or, it could be a very thin transition cloud of water vapor being transferred back to the clouds. I´ve seen that happen on rare (but similar) occasions, though normally it simply looks like a cloud, or a smoke plume.

There are contrails, and there are chemtrails. Most of what we see in this area are chemtrails. They go from horizon to horizon and gradually become hazy clouds. I have seen a dark line like the one pictured.

if the earth had a ring, and note that there are only a few people who think so - but having said that, if it did, its dust would be constantly falling to earth (everyone agrees about that), and when it did, it would bring with it the cold and angular momentum anomaly of its space orbit. On that explanation, it´s not that dust is falling out of the cloud but rather that cold dust falling to earth precipitates a cloud out at some height. Just saying.

I have seen strange straight darker lines appear in the air over water before but when I saw them it was in the evening on a moonlit night. They are kind of scary looking. My theory is they may be some kind of straight column of air, perhaps the precursor to a large "Dust-Devil" but this time over water? They can dissipate just as easily as they form. I don´t think the cloud in the picture had anything to do with the column of air, it just happened to be in the sky at the same time and the angle of the picture made it look like the straight line was coming down from the cloud.

I blogged yesterday about this "segregated" Muslim event organised by the Islamic Society of the University of East London, due to happen tonight at UEL´s main lecture theatre on its Docklands campus. Much to my surprise, UEL immediately banned it from their campus. [Snip] UEL should be congratulated over this. As I pointed out, it has an "equality and diversity" policy. It didn´t know that the dinner organised by the Islamic society--which was to include a speech by the controversial anti-gay preacher Murtaza Khan--was segregated by sex and was providing a platform for an extremist. Tony Blair´s religious charity has links to an Islamic extremist group being investigated by MI5 and MI6, it has been alleged. [Snip] The organisation has been declared a terrorist group in Egypt and Saudi Arabia, and could be banned in Britain, despite insisting they do not have links to extremist factions. The Global Muslim Brotherhood Daily Watch, which has been looking into the group for 13 years, revealed that Dr Ismail Khudr Al-Shatti, an adviser to the Kuwaiti government and a member of Mr Blair’s advisory council, is a leading member of the Kuwaiti branch of the Muslim Brotherhood. the

Deep in the flat and featureless landscape of eastern Ukraine, it is all too possible that the outline of World War III is taking shape. Whipped up by the Kremlin propaganda machine and led by Russian military intelligence, armed men are erecting road blocks, storming police stations and ripping down the country’s flag. They are demolishing not just their own country — bankrupt, ill-run and beleaguered — but also the post-war order that has kept most of Europe and us, here in Britain, safe and free for decades. Vladimir Putin is striking at the heart of the West.

The Internal Revenue Service is considering a bold move to label perks like free lunch given to workers by companies as taxable. The agency wonders if freebies like haircuts and gym memberships are a way to compensate the highly skilled rather than just a way to jumpstart productivity. After all, argue proponents of such a tax, workers at Silicon Valley firms like Google and Facebook receive free meals from famously fancy in-house eateries every day. Some companies even go a step further by offering freebies like haircuts, car services, and child care. Typical workaday folks can expect to pay for all

Second, the Obama administration, clearly embarrassed by these lavish and frequent family vacations, stonewalls the release of records at every turn. Toddlers show racial bias when picking playmates, a study reveals. They also take account of how fairly others behave. Researchers tested the reaction of white 15-month-olds as toys were distributed. Two white adults divided the toys, one equally and the other unequally. Seventy per cent of the toddlers chose to play with the researcher who distributed the toys fairly. But in a second test, when one researcher favoured a white recipient over an Asian one, they picked the ‘fair’ researcher less often, the journal Frontiers in Psychology reports. And the babies are more likely to help those who share the same ethnicity, which is known as

How do you ensure that you won’t be ostracized, denounced, or fired if you are a media celebrity, captain of industry, or high public official? For some, sexist banter is certainly no problem. Stand-up comedian Bill Maher called Sarah Palin a c–t and a tw-t, but suffered no ill consequences. David Letterman joked on air that Sarah Palin’s 14-year-old daughter had had sex with Alex Rodriguez during a New York Yankees game. There was no downside to that either. President Obama tosses around “sweetie” as he wishes. No problem with that. No one believes Barack could be condescending to women.
