´Do As We Say, Not As We Do Act?´

Jay Leno took a comedic swipe at ObamaCare Friday. After informing a somewhat stunned crowd about the exemption members of Congress were given from the Affordable Care Act, the NBC Tonight Show host said, "Why don´t they call it what it really is - the ´Do As We Say, Not As We Do Act?´" (video follows with transcript and commentary): JAY LENO: Well, it was reported today that the White House just approved an exemption in ObamaCare coverage for Congress and members of their staff. Notice the reaction from the crowd? Not very pleased to hear this news, were they?

Affordable Care Act could also the anti-incumbancy act as it should take out every incumbent running for re-election next year.

I just cannot believe congress-critters and their minions think they will get away with this.

Here´s the problem with this whole sorry escapade. Obama caved on this because of all the liberal whiners in congress and their staff but congress as a whole with take the public hit for getting special treatment. Most people who see the word congress these days automatically think republicans. So the left wins this battle while the GOP takes the public hit.

Any member of Congress that doesn´t want to take a hit for this needs to refuse to be a part of the excepted group and he needs to also refuse to allow members of his staff to be excepted. Whether he, or she, actively sought this or not, if they take advantage of it they´re just as guilty as those who asked for it. I agree with a previous poster on an earlier thread. We need a constitutional amendment that says Congress may not be exempted from any laws they enact.

Congressman Joseph Kennedy was feted by a fashionable crowd at a downtown fundraiser. The Massachusetts Democrat was hosted by tech entrepreneur Sam Hamadeh at his sprawling Gramercy loft on Thursday night. Guests included Lauren Santo Domingo and husband Andrés, Moda Operandi’s Hayley Bloomingdale, Vogue’s James Reed Hague, and Jesse and Stephanie Newhouse, among others. Our spies say 80 people packed into Hamadeh’s 4,000-square-foot loft — which has been a filming location for “Gossip Girl” and photo shoots for Cosmo and Elle — for the event, which raised around $40,000 for the 33-year-old Kennedy scion

The last rancher in southern Nevada has won a battle over the federal government´s round up of his cattle on public land after a week-long standoff with agents. The Bureau of Land Management announced today that it would stop trying to seize the cattle of Cliven Bundy after armed militia gathered in Nevada. Shortly after the deal was agreed, about 100 armed protesters, some on horse back, headed to a corral to demand the BLM also hands back cattle it had already taken. Armed members of the BLM and the Bundy family were also reported to be involved in tense talks

Several letters to the editor published in The Washington Post on Saturday strongly criticized the Matt Schudel obituary of Marine Gen. Carl Mundy from April 6. Favorable obituaries are more likely for left-wing radicals like "visionary scientist" Barry Commoner, to recall Schudel´s recent work. It began by noting the general offended liberals (without using the L-word): “Carl E. During his speech at Saturday’s New Hampshire Freedom Summit, Huckabee reporting said, “I’m beginning to think there´s more freedom in North korea sometimes than there is in the United States.” MSNBC political reporter Benjy Sarlin, who was present at the event, was the first to tweet the quote, which was apparently in reference to airport pat downs by the TSA:

Spieth joined the mix at the Masters on Friday with an 8-foot eagle putt on the par-5 15th, and a shot that settled within tap-in range for birdie on the 18th hole. NEW YORK— Video phone calls? Yeah, we do that. Asking computers for information? Sure, several times a day. Colonies on the moon and jet packs as a mode of everyday transportation. OK, maybe not. The New York World´s Fair of 1964 introduced 51 million visitors to a range of technological innovations and predictions, some that turned out to be right on the money and others that, perhaps thankfully, were way off the mark. Many Americans have been watching with great consternation the ongoing struggle between the Federal Bureau of Land Management (BLM) and the U.S. Marshals against Cliven Bundy and his family. In fact, the reality of the dispute goes far underneath what is being talked about. The more appropriate source of the dispute is ground water as well as surface water -- this is a war over water. The son of the Nevada rancher locked in an increasingly tense land dispute with the federal government, says their cowboys managed to break a blockade and retrieve around 30 head of cattle. The heavily-armed federal agents, equipped with eight helicopters and backed-up by snipers, surrounded the Bundy ranch after the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) attained a federal court order to confiscate the family´s herd. Following the massacre of grammar-school children in Newtown, Conn., in December 2012, high-powered weapons have been used to kill innocent victims in more senseless public incidents. Those killings, however, are only a fragment of the total harm caused by the misuse of firearms. Each year, more than 30,000 people die in the United States in firearm-related incidents. Many of those deaths involve handguns. The adoption of rules that will lessen the number of those incidents should be a matter of primary concern to both federal and state legislators. Legislatures are in a far better position than judges to assess the

Nearly a year into the IRS scandal, we still don´t know exactly what happened—though we are finally getting an inkling.
