Director of Mayors Against
Illegal Guns Says ‘Don’t
Shoot’ If Someone Comes At
You With a Deadly Weapon

Washington Free Beacon, by Staff

Executive Director of Mayors Against Illegal Guns Mark Glaze gave some ambiguous and potentially dangerous self defense advice Friday on “Hardball.” Glaze, speaking in opposition to “Stand Your Ground” laws, said in a circumstance where someone “comes at you” with an axe handle one should attempt to either “talk,” “fight with your fists,” “run away,” or “deescalate the situation,” but not shoot the attacker: MARK GLAZE: Very often somebody will come at you. They might want to have a fistfight. They might come at you with an ax handle. CHRIS MATTHEWS: Would you consider the guy with the ax handle armed or not?

What the hell is an illegal gun? Illegal possession of a gun is something different. These Mayors Against Illegal Guns are against all guns period! They want to destroy the 2nd Amendment and self defense. They want to be like the Euroweanies where if someone is beating you with an ax handle and you injure the attacker you go to jail not the attacker because only the police can defend you. Good grief how stupid are these liberal mayors?

Another example of the lengths to which ideologues are prepared to go when they ideology conflicts with reason and common sense. This mayor cannot be as stupid as he sounds. Stupidity, indeed, would be some kind of an excuse. He is not stupid but dishonest. He is being consciously, deliberately dishonest and absurd in a comical attempt to defend his ideological position.

This is serious business. One can do something at times with stupid or ignorant people, but nothing can be done with zealots, dogmatists and dishonest ideologues who will go to any length to enforce their personal obsessions on others.

What if there are 2 attackers with ax handles?
Do you ask them to wait their turn while you deescalate the situation?

If you take my advise deescalate by shooting each of them. There now, everything is calm.

All ‘wouda, couda, shoulda’ guesses by people who likely have never found themselves in potentially life threatening situations. It surely must be easy to pontificate about what ‘should be done’ when your security detail is lounging ten feet away. But when real situations occur decisions have to be made instinctively. There usually isn’t time to logically think out scenarios and possible solutions, to figure out if the attacker is nuts, vindictive, autistic or whatever. An enraged person can beat down and/or kill with his bare fists. An armed person would have to be a complete fool not to use his weapon just because his/her attacker didn’t have equal firepower.

An open letter to:

Mark Glaze

Sir, I have read your comments to Mr. Matthews and have researched you to gain an understanding of your back-ground. I believe some fleshing out of your scenario is appropriate.

If the individual in question is of slight frame using an old axe handle as a cane because of a bad leg, talking to him to de-escalate the situation is the last thing you should do. If you are a decent human being you are going to provide him support as he walks with you.

If on the other hand he is beligerant, in full possession of his motive skills, and advancing towards you with the axe handle gripped in his hands, when he is 20 feet away you had better be considering how you are going to access your weapon. An axe handle is 48 inches in length. A man 6 ft tall has a reach of 36 inches. That 20 ft distance can be covered in 1.5 seconds. Once the challenger has covered 14 feet you are at risk.

Nobody is obligated to be a punching bag for a beligerant simply because the beligerant was smart enough not to carry a weapon. I have studied your photos sir, you do not have a face that evidences much experience with pugalist. Your nose is unbroken, there is no evidence of skin damage from black-eyes nor of missing teeth.

But if you wish to practice what you preach, by all means, please do so. However, be advised that you cannot rely on a private body guard and remain true to your words.

Old School Banker

Those guys are all boneheads. Someone attacking you with an axe handle or a knife can kill you very quickly, and then you would be just as dead as if someone shot you with a gun.

The liberal anti-gun crowd of couse also oppose the concealed carry laws that are now in force across the nation, in that respect they are indirectly attacking those laws by attempting to severely limit the right of self-defense during violent encounters with criminals. Because if a law abiding person were to no longer have a right of self-defense with a firearm in most cases, that would be a big reason in their minds to completely do away with the concealed carry laws.

#13 displays the ignorance of libtards for all to see. Someone within 7 meters is in the red zone. That´s the ´rubicon´ for when you shoot them if you want to have any hope of avoiding injury or death (yours). And to #13 I´d say, what if the ´autistic´ person decided to stick that butter knife in your left eye? Think that might injure or kill you? Unless you´re psychic, in those situations you don´t know what they´re going to do.
The libtards are so helpless, and lack the training, knowledge and experience to do anything other than shut-up and do what the grownups tell them to do. Which might explain why they act as the lemmings they are, with their collectivist overseers directing their feelings, thoughts and actions.

I would pay good money to watch Mark Glaze take his own advice.

Those of you (and you know who you are, don´t you...) who think for one second that a person with a weapon who is 20 feet away from you does NOT constitute a lethal threat should look up the name Dennis Tueller.

(There is a name for people who believe this. They are normally called "the deceased" particularly in newspaper accounts of such incidents.)

Sgt Tueller is the police training officer who demonstrated conclusively that the average man can cover the 21 feet between you and kill you with the weapon he is holding before even a trained defender can draw and fire a firearm.

The "Tueller drill" is named in his honor. It is, shall we say, an eye opening experience.

Current thinking is generally that Tueller may have been too conservative in "drawing the line" at 21 feet.

ETA: Tueller´s conclusion was that said average person (attacker) cancover that distance in an average timeof 1.5 seonds.

I won´t even begin to point out how much damage even a fatally wounded attacker can inflict in the 14 secons or so before his brain function shuts down. People shot with a handgun only drop like a stone in the movies.

It’s been nine years since the Supreme Court, expressing their decision in the writings of John Paul Stevens, decided to fundamentally change the Takings Clause of the constitution in the case of Kelo v. City of New London. On this auspicious anniversary, a diarist at Redstate decides to take a fresh look at how wonderfully that exercise in freedom worked out for the citizens, and what they received in exchange for their liberties. The Kelo ruling was controversial and precedent-setting because, under eminent domain, the government may seize the property of a private citizen when it’s deemed necessary for public use

WASHINGTON — President Barack Obama will leave Tuesday for a four-nation trip to Asia, looking to recharge a focus on the region, an ambitious initiative that’s been sidetracked by domestic politics and international conflicts elsewhere. Yet even as Obama attempts to boost his effort to emphasize U.S. interest in Asia, Russian President Vladimir Putin’s intervention in Ukraine is complicating efforts to reassure Asian nations _ which share the region with an increasingly assertive China - that the U.S. is committed to their security. The administration’s efforts to refocus U.S. policy toward Asia were already being questioned in the region with the

One of the Obama administration’s favorite themes is the idea that Republicans have been waging a “war on women.” Though Democrats may overestimate the appeal of this canard, the notion that troglodyte conservatives seek to send American women back to the 19th century has become a form of conventional wisdom, especially in the liberal mainstream media. But though that war is a piece of fakery rooted in the confusion between political liberalism and gender equality, there is little doubt about the reality of another war on women: the one that is being waged by left-wing ideologues against any female Republican

It’s the stuff of Westerns: a showdown on the desert plains, the big bad government against an underdog farmer. Though the story has only grabbed national headlines in the past several days, rancher Cliven Bundy has illegally grazed cattle on the Nevada land surrounding his farm for over 20 years. He hasn’t paid grazing fees since 1993, and refuses to renew the necessary grazing permit.(Snip)Rather than using the avenues and pathways presented to him, Bundy has staunchly declared his own law and allegiances. Unfortunately, reality doesn’t work this way. If only it did—we could rebel for paying stupid taxes, refuse to

A group of seven multiracial Washington and Lee University (W&L) students are demanding the school remove all Confederate flags from campus and "acknowledge" General Robert E. Lee´s "dishonorable side." According to the Roanoke Times, "seven multiracial students, calling themselves ´The Committee,´" have also demanded the school "acknowledge and apologize for participating in chattel slavery." They want recognition of "Martin Luther King Jr. Day on the undergraduate campus" and an end to "neo-Confederates" marching across campus "to the Lee Chapel on Lee-Jackson Day." The students say they will "engage in civil disobedience" if their demands are not met by September 1st. They added: "The

The White House is going to war with another fox — and this time, it’s personal. The Wall Street Journal reports that a red fox has been causing chaos around the White House, tripping security alarms, digging up Michelle’s garden and distracting the president from his duties. The Secret Service won’t give any details about how often the fox trips the White House’s obviously sophisticated security alarms, but rest assured, officials say, they’re watching. President Obama was apparently “stunned” to see the fox roaming freely down the oft-photographed White House colonnade, home to the world’s shortest, but most dramatic, outdoor strolls. The bushy-tailed visitor

I began reading the entirety of the first section of the New York Times at nine years old, and continued that practice, more or less, for decades.(snip) ...the power of reverence, intrinsic to what I call the “cascade” of The Times: the near avalanche-like flow and distribution of information through electronic and print networks: through like-minded network newscasts, magazines, local newspaper s, blogs, daytime talk TV, late-night entertainment, statements at media award ceremonies, the celebrity Twitterverse, etc. The cascade rolls through Saturday Night Live, Jon Stewart, The New Yorker, the mouths of third-grade teachers, Elmo, Madonna and Susan Sarandon …through

Hi, everybody. For millions of Americans, this time of year holds great meaning. Earlier this week, we hosted a Passover Seder at the White House, and joined Jewish families around the world in their re-tellings of the story of the Exodus and the victory of faith over oppression. And this Sunday, Michelle, Malia, Sasha, and I will join our fellow Christians around the world in celebrating the Resurrection of Christ, the salvation he offered the world, and the hope that comes with the Easter season. These holy days have their roots in miracles that took place long ago. And yet, they still inspire us, guide us, and strengthen us today. They remind us of our

GREENSBORO, Ga. — Golf holes the size of pizzas. Soccer balls on the back nine. A mulligan on every hole. These are some of the measures — some would say gimmicks — that golf courses across the country have experimented with to stop people from quitting the game. Golf has always reveled in its standards and rich tradition. But increasingly a victim of its own image and hidebound ways, golf has lost five million players in the last decade, according to the National Golf Foundation, with 20 percent of the existing 25 million golfers apt to quit in the next few years. People under 35 have especially spurned the game, saying it takes too

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid said Thursday that a family of dissident ranchers and their supporters in his home state of Nevada are ´domestic terrorists,´ citing this week´s standoff with the federal government´s Bureau of Land Management. Cliven Bundy has refused to pay grazing fees for land where his hundreds of cattle roam every day. The land is owned by the federal government, which says he owes more than $1 million. Bundy, however, insists that since his family has been using the land since the 1870s, Uncle Sam can´t collect the grazing fees. A tense standoff developed this week after

To "honor the dignity and work of immigrants," Democratic House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi helps Bishop Marc Andrus wash the feet of two children Thursday at Saint John the Evangelist Episcopal Church in San Francisco. Pelosi also used the occasion to talk about passing HR15 - bipartisan immigration legislation that her office says would "reduce the deficit by nearly $1 trillion, secure our borders, unite our families, protect our workers and provide an earned pathway to citizenship." The Democratic leader´s ceremony coincides with Pope Francis´ similar ceremony in Rome to mark Holy Week.

Imagine a vendor on the National Mall, selling burgers and dogs, who hasn’t paid his rent in 20 years. He refuses to recognize his landlord, the National Park Service, as a legitimate authority. Every court has ruled against him, and fines have piled up. What’s more, the effluents from his food cart are having a detrimental effect on the spring grass in the capital. Would an armed posse come to his defense, aiming their guns at the park police? Would the lawbreaker get prime airtime on Fox News, breathless updates in the Drudge Report, a sympathetic ear from Tea Party Republicans?

Conservative columnist Ann Coulter — who used her talk show platform in the last presidential election cycle to campaign hard for former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney — has taken up the mantra once again, calling on Republicans to give the failed White House bidder another shot in 2016. She made the suggestion during a discussion on Sean Hannity’s radio show while speaking of her new book, “Never Trust a Liberal Over 3-Especially a Republican.” Ms. Coulter also addressed the question of Mr. Romney’s shortcomings by saying that his 2012 loss wasn’t entirely his fault. “I think too much blame, not only in this
