400 area retail, fast-food
workers demand $15-an-hour
minimum wage

About 400 area retail and fast-food workers, together with colleagues nationally, participated in a strike Thursday to demand raising the minimum wage to $15 an hour. “If not $15, then something. I mean give us something. I work 36 hours a week and barely make enough to pay my rent, gas bill, light bill. It gets to the point where I barely have enough for lunch sometimes,” said Angel Richardson, 21, who works at McDonald’s. “I’m five months pregnant, what am I going to do in four months? I hope something changes.” The minimum wage is $7.25 nationally and $8.25

No one should expect to make a living slinging fast food. That is something kids do while preparing themselves to do something that can support a family.

Angel, why are you pregnant if you can´t afford your bills? Where´s baby daddy? Maybe you should look at yourself at what skills and habits need to be improved on before attempting to extort money from your employer.

Where to begin.

Little Angel encompasses everything wrong with our youth today.

Under- or uneducated. Expects to support a family flipping burgers. Didn´t bother to learn any skill when in public school system.

Family values - who/where´s your daddy? Statistically speaking her and the kid haven’t got a chance now.

Expectations - demand $15/hour to mumble "you want to supersize your order for only fiddy cent more"? Make all the demands you want - you´re fired.

Hope & Change (again) I hope something changes soon rather than making something change yourself.

Boo frickity hoo - most of your problems are your problems. Don´t burden your employer or society for your bad choices in life.

In these times, NO ONE should get pregnant with the contraceptives that get shoved at you all over the place. If you are expecting me to do something about your stupidity, well that´s three shades of too darn bad.

Of course the experienced person does grasp the fact that the government doesn´t pay the wages their employer does and can´t steal their wages from other workers so the amount has to reflect the rate of return.

Iwas told many years ago that if I wanted to earn what a doctor makes, it would be a good idea to learn to be a doctor.

What these entitlement idiots don´t understand is the SEIU would love them to make $15.00 an hour. Their members would also get a raise commesurate with the increase, making the earning power of $15.00 perhour the same as the $8.25 they make now.

This form of minimum wage tinkering never works, frankly it can´t.

While the scenario I will describe is likely not typical, it is probably more common than most would believe.

I had a friend some years ago in Orange County, CA. His parents had high school educations (they were not married yet) and started out working at Jack in the Box. They worked their way up the ladder to management, regional and eventually into corporate areas where they made enough money over time to eventually purchase one franchise and then another and so forth until they owned 5 Jack in the Box franchises.

They had two children and had them work their way up in their franchises.

The family is beyond rich. While they are not very "cultured", they learned and earned business savy.

While many discount people in this industry, I discovered many of them work under very stressful circumstances under less than an ideal circumstance, particularly in urban areas.

Also, many franchises hire those that are disabled and the elderly who cannot find work in more complex work enviorns. So do give those who deserve it, respect.

On the other hand, I believe that a pay wage should be market related. Frankly, I do not even believe in a minimum wage. Wages should be based entirely on ability, skill, education and demand. Higher demand, then higher the wage.

Government and unions should not be able to dictate how and what private companies should pay their employees.

Just wait until amnesty kicks in - supply will wipe out the demand equation and these workers will be unemployed.

More people should educate themselves in basic economics...namely the president.

On Tuesday morning, a plane owned in trust by the Bank of Utah showed up in a very visible area of the Mehrabad Airport in Tehran, the capital of the Islamic Republic of Iran. What was it doing there exactly? Nobody knows, reports The New York Times. Under President Barack Obama, the United States has eased some of the long-standing punitive economic sanctions against Iran. Still, very little American — or European — economic activity is allowed inside the religious theocracy. The Bank of Utah is certainly no Wells Fargo. Imagine a vendor on the National Mall, selling burgers and dogs, who hasn’t paid his rent in 20 years. He refuses to recognize his landlord, the National Park Service, as a legitimate authority. Every court has ruled against him, and fines have piled up. What’s more, the effluents from his food cart are having a detrimental effect on the spring grass in the capital. Would an armed posse come to his defense, aiming their guns at the park police? Would the lawbreaker get prime airtime on Fox News, breathless updates in the Drudge Report, a sympathetic ear from Tea Party Republicans?

First, the good news: We are close enough to the end of the Obama presidency for his crowd to talk about a presidential library. Now, the bad news: Obama´s retirement is still 1,008 days distant. Plenty of time though to round up the dough to build it somewhere. Figure they need Solyndra-style money, at least $500 million. The last two presidents – Bill Clinton and George W. Bush -- built their legacy edifices totally with private money. [Snip] However, Obama supporters have a different take. They think taxpayers should put up $100 million in public money for Obama´s library.

Less than 16 hours after Chelsea Clinton announced she was pregnant, a lot of major news outlets started staring into the crystal ball of Chelsea’s womb, wondering what this currently floating zygotic multicellular being meant for the prospects of Hillary Clinton’s 2016 campaign, which is also a floating, zygotic, multicellular being. Their answer: The immaculately conceived Clinton child could mean everything. And no, it’s not just the fact that having a grandchild could be personally fulfilling to Hillary and Bill (mazel tov, by the way), or that a cute baby would be a sweet cherry on top of Hillary’s already

Remember when Lois Lerner, in answering a planted question at an American Bar Association conference, admitted the IRS had targeted conservative groups but tried to pass it off as the work of rogue agents — “our line people in Cincinnati”? Today we know there were indeed federal agents involved. But they weren’t rogue, and they weren’t confined to IRS workers in Cincinnati. Thanks to a Freedom of Information request by Judicial Watch, we now have an e-mail Lerner sent to colleagues noting the Department of Justice was looking into criminal prosecutions of these tax-exempt groups. We know something else, too. These investigations

The first step is admitting… It was a simple question to someone accustomed to much tougher ones: What was her proudest achievement as secretary of state? But for a moment, Hillary Rodham Clinton, appearing recently before a friendly audience at a women’s forum in Manhattan, seemed flustered.(Snip)So…no definitive successes and some clear-cut failures. And that’s the generous New York Times assessment. The Democrat fantasy story about Mrs. Clinton paints her as strong and accomplished on her own. In reality, this is a woman who is professionally defined almost entirely by two men in her life, both of whom happen to have

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid on Friday stood by his statement regarding embattled Nevada rancher Cliven Bundy, saying on KSNV’s What’s Your Point?, “If anyone thinks by any figment of their imagination that what happened up there last week was just people rallying to somebody that was oppressed, 600 people came in armed. They had practiced. They had maneuvered.” Reid continued, “They knew what they were doing. They set up snipers in strategic locations with sniper rifles. They had assault weapons. They had automatic weapons. And they boasted about the fact that they put women and children, in fact one
