Croissants banned in Aleppo
because of colonial connotations

Jerusalem Post (Israel), by Ariel Ben Solomon

Original Article

A Sharia committee in the northern Syrian city of Aleppo issued a fatwa that croissants are forbidden because their link with colonialism, according to an article on Tuesday in the London based Arab daily Asharq al-Awsat. The ruling said that the croissant, which is in the shape of the French crescent, celebrates the European victory over the Muslims, as the crescent is a slogan of the Islamic state. This is a sign of the Islamization of Syria in areas under the control of the Islamist dominated rebels. Traditionally, Aleppo has practiced a more moderate form of Islam

I just remembered that there was another "shape" ban some years ago. International Business Times - 12/7/11

An unnamed sheikh was quoted in a religious publication, el-Senousa News, as saying that if a woman wished to eat cucumbers or bananas, it should be sliced into pieces, preferably by her husband or father, before she eats them. Egyptian English news site Bikya Masr reported the proposal. According to the report, the sheikh has also added carrots and zucchini to the list of apparently immoral and blasphemous fruits and vegetables

Since they are crescent shaped like the Muslim symbol, they could just adopt croissants as a Muslim-centric food. That´s what Christians did with all the pagan things like hot crossed buns, and the world is a better place for it. But the Muslim motto is if you can´t beat ´em, kill ´em!

An history note of interest ~ the Christians in Homs and Aleppo circa 1918 LEFT FOR AMERICA in large numbers.

US Steel was hiring workers for its new mill complex in Gary. The Persian ruling house ALSO left the old world for Gary at about that time ~ to work in the mills.

US Steel paid well.

Over time thousands of these folks built up a bit of money and moved South to Indianapolis and other Indiana cities to start up small businesses. One such was in the Danner´s basement in Brightwood ~ as pure a ME or Pakistani ´sweet shop´ as you can imagine ~ identical to the one now in Springfield VA ~ today the Syrian Christians are totally assimilated in Indiana. Can´t tell ´em from the Methodists!

The President is no economic illiterate, despite what conservatives think. He understands basic macroeconomics just fine, thank you – but with a twist.
