Delay Is Better than Defund
Weekly Standard, by Jeffrey H. Anderson

Original Article

Posted By:StormCnter, 7/30/2013 5:51:06 AM

There has been a fair amount of discussion in recent days about whether Republicans should try to defund Obamacare. The instinct to do something about Obamacare is right. But Republicans can learn something from the American people. As polls have consistently shown, Americans like the idea of delaying—and of repealing—Obamacare. But they don’t like the sound of defunding it. In terms of policy, either approach would produce essentially the same result. (Whether the Obamacare exchanges are delayed for a year, or its exchange subsidies are defunded for a year, the result would be no taxpayer-funded Obamacare exchanges next year.)

Really? The majority of people don´t want ObamaCare, but they want it funded? Do you really think that they are that stupid?

The delay was unconstitutional. Anyone going to do anything about that?

Defeat anyone that does not vote to defund.

This is the implementation of a brand new program with estimated costs of in excess of a trillion dollars. If key parts of program involving revenue and verification of eligibility aren´t read to implement then it needs to be debated with full projections of the CBO of the new first year costs. The decision to implement a third of the loaf needs to get a majority in the House and 60 votes in the Senate. This can´t be launched under a continuing resolution.

This article is based on assumption, I want it defunded and so does everyone that I know. I will take bets that Mr. Anderson´s newly funded operation listed at the end of this article is another partisan group selling themselves as the real deal conservatives. Later will will find Mr Anderson in the camp of either Jeb Bush or Chris Christie, neither of whom are enthusiastic conservatives interested in the restoration of Constitutional principles.

A new nationwide poll found that Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul and former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee are leading the field of potential 2016 presidential candidates. Mr. Paul and Mr. Huckabee won support from 13 percent of those surveyed, while former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush was nipping at their heels with 11 percent. New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie and Texas Sen. Ted Cruz each pulled in 9 percent. “With a field of quality candidates, it is no surprise that no one has broken away from the pack,” said Chris Wilson, CEO of WPA Opinion Research, which did the poll. “The important thing at this

U.S. President Barack Obama ended a four-nation foreign trip on Saturday in the same situation as he began it - facing great uncertainty about a diplomatic way out of the Ukraine crisis. His diplomatic consultations in The Hague, Brussels and Rome over the past week all resulted in a strong show of unity between the United States and Europe that Russia must face consequences should it move against southern or eastern Ukraine. But it remains an open question whether the European allies would be able to stomach the kind of crippling sanctions required to significantly undermine Russia´s economy since some of their

Just as supporters of the Affordable Care Act were celebrating the news that the law’s new health insurance exchanges had enrolled 6 million Americans—below the initial 7 million target for the first year, but not shabby given the technical fiascos last fall—comes a reminder of how far we still have to go before the law comes close to achieving its purpose. Gallup has released the results of a 2013 survey asking Americans whether they “did not have enough money to pay for the healthcare and/or medicine they and their families needed.” The eye-opening results are, essentially, a final snapshot of

Democratic Vice President Joe Biden is running for president, and he’s eager to ingratiate himself with every political constituency, flatter every donor and pander to every ethnic group between now and the 2016 nomination. Biden is best known for his many gaffes and smears. In August 2012, he told African-Americans that GOP policies “are going to put y’all back in chains.” These days, he’s trying eyewash, sycophancy, fawning and even blarney. “Eleven million undocumented aliens are already Americans, in my view,” he told a group of American employers, whom he assumed would empathize with unknown, low-skill foreigners merely because they share the

Hey Scott Brown, it’s time. There’s no mystery about your plans, so why not make it official? Tell New Hampshire: If you like your senator, you can keep your senator, even though she lied when she said if you liked your doctor, you could keep your doctor. Jeanne Shaheen still supports the Obamacare nightmare 100 percent. It’s the only issue in 2014. That’s why she’s desperately trying to change the subject to “the people’s pledge.” My eyes glaze over even as I type those words. Let me guess, she believes in global warming too. Weeds and rubble cover 90 acres along Long Island Sound. A room with cinder-block walls sits locked in an empty in Brooklyn basement. And a gleaming industrial palace has failed to bring jobs to the banks of Ohio´s Mahoning River. These are monuments to failed central planning. Eminent domain, state and local subsides, and federal-corporate partnerships have yielded these lifeless fruits, failing to deliver the rebirth, community benefits and jobs they promise — but succeeding in delivering profits to the companies that lobby for them. The economic philosophy at work here isn´t capitalism or socialism. It´s corporatism: the belief that government and

As the White House was enveloped in the Monica Lewinsky scandal in January 1998, aides offered advice to President Bill Clinton’s speechwriting team on how to use the State of the Union address that month to rebuild public confidence in the president. “Please recognize, I am in no way suggesting that he use his speech to discuss our current situation head-on,” Minyon Moore, the president’s public liaison, wrote in a memo. “I am simply stating that we cannot take his supporters for granted, nor his detractors, and they need to be reassured on several fronts.” Ms. Moore suggested that Mr.

Today’s quiz: What do Vladimir Putin’s aggression and ObamaCare’s troubles have in common? OK, that was too easy. It is impossible to dismiss as mere coincidence the Russian Bear’s invasion of Ukraine and the continuing mayhem of the Affordable Care Act. In their own ways, each reflects the full flowering of the policies of Barack Obama. His chickens are coming home to roost, and what a mess they are making. Obama’s sixth year in the White House is shaping up as his worst, and that’s saying something. He’s been in the Oval Office so long that it is obscene to blame his problems

For conservatives, the story of the Obama years has been the depressing spectacle of Republicans fighting a rearguard action covering their retreat from a Democratic agenda backed by superior numbers. Republicans began the Obama administration with effectively no leverage: Barack Obama in the White House, Nancy Pelosi in the speaker’s chair, and Harry Reid running the Senate. The outcome of that was the enactment of the Affordable Care Act, the worst domestic defeat for the cause of limited government in a generation. The 2010 congressional elections gave Republicans some relief in the form of a House majority empowered to contain

Democrats are going into the 2014 midterm elections with their control of the Senate greatly imperiled and with the prospect of an Obama presidency completely hobbled in its final two years. In response, the president and his party are struggling to come up with a broad economic message that can rebut, or at least deflect, the continued GOP assaults on the president and his new health-care law. Thus far, what they have produced is a smaller, more targeted approach — one that seeks to gin up the enthusiasm that has been lacking in key parts of their base, but that

After a disastrous presidential campaign in 2012, can Texas Governor Rick Perry mount a credible bid for the White House in 2016? Texas Governor Rick Perry is currently on a media tour touting the theme that America is a great place for second chances, specifically second chances for Texas governors with national ambitions. Perry is trying to erase the memory of his disastrous 2012 GOP presidential campaign which included “brain-farts” and “oops” debate moments with his folksy, charming, and uniquely American manner. Curious about Perry’s comeback strategy, I asked Texan and GOP presidential media guru, Mark McKinnon and he said,

As part of its plan to reduce U.S. greenhouse gas emissions, the Obama administration is targeting the dairy industry to reduce methane emissions in their operations. This comes despite falling methane emission levels across the economy since 1990. The White House has proposed cutting methane emissions from the dairy industry by 25 percent by 2020. Although U.S. agriculture only accounts for about 9 percent of the country’s greenhouse gas emissions, according to the Environmental Protection Agency, it makes up a sizeable portion of methane emissions — which is a very potent greenhouse gas. Some of these methane emissions come from

A startling rift appeared Tuesday on the Supreme Court as the three female Justices came out swinging like Brunnhildes — women warriors — for what they erroneously labeled an “entitlement” to employer-provided contraceptives and morning-after pills. The Justices were hearing oral arguments in Sebelius v. Hobby Lobby Stores, Inc., a case hyped by the Democratic Party as a test for women’s rights. Justices Kagan, Ginsberg, and Sotomayor sprang on Hobby Lobby’s attorney , interrupting his every sentence and pummeling him with questions taken right out of the Democratic Party’s “war on women” playbook. From criticism of her trip to China to a recent “tell-all” by former White House assistant press secretary Reid Cherlin in the New Republic about Obama’s allegedly tyrannical behavior, the gloves have been removed. As described, she was a perfectionist — super-attentive to detail and laser-focused on advance planning. And this is bad because? Worse, according to a former (anonymous) staffer, there was no barometer for meeting Obama’s high standards. “The first lady having

Only "mere scraps of data documented" Barack Obama´s mother´s "days in Seattle," writes Obama biographer David Maraniss in his 2012 Barack Obama: The Story. Incidentally, Maraniss was telling the truth: Ann´s "days in Seattle" weren´t mentioned in Dreams from my Father and were only vaguely implied in Maraniss´s lengthy 2008 article. And it appears that the only "scraps" of evidence of Obama´s mother´s time in Seattle during 1961-1962 was a listing in a Seattle Polk directory and a University of Washington (UW) transcript.
