Colonel George ‘Bud’ Day, R.I.P.
FrontPage, by Peter Collier

Original Article

Posted By:Judy W., 7/29/2013 6:51:36 AM

America is a poorer place today, a place whose reservoir of valor and determination has been depleted, because George “Bud” Day passed away over the weekend at the age of 88. He was a synecdoche for heroism, a military man’s military man. At Medal of Honor get-togethers, his fellow recipients, all of whom had accomplished legendary feats of bravery of their own, would pay special attention when Bud Day appeared. Bud was at war on behalf of America most of his life and never called a truce even as age and infirmity slowed him down.

Comments:
Peter Collier knew Bud well in two ways. He interviewed him for his book on Medal of Honor winners, and he and David Horowitz were very supportive of the Swift Boat Vets and POWs for Truth during the 2004 campaign. My husband knew Bud from their time in the Hanoi Hilton, and says all the POWs revered Bud. I knew him slightly from the Swift Boats Vets-and-POW time.

Because of his activity against the election of John Kerry I would be surprised if this administration does anything to acknowledge his bravery or service at this time of his death.
God Bless this great leader of men. His dedication to protect this country and those who serve will always be remembered by this soldier.

For the record you don´t win the Medal of Honor you are the recipient. If you talk to these recipients they all tell you they didn´t in anything. Their fallen comrades were as deserving as they were.

I was a Forward Air Controller in Southeast Asia while Col. Day was in prison. We all knew about him and he was a hero to all of us. I am sickened now by the fact that this great warrior passes with little notice while the citizens of this country reward disgusting, self promoting pieces of filth like Kerry, the Clintons and Jane Fonda. You dishonor a great man with your continued tolerance of them.

Admiral Jeremiah Denton died yesterday at the age of 89. Admiral Denton served seven-and-a-half years as a prisoner of war in Hanoi during the Vietnam War. Denton’s name should be known by every American. In captivity he gave something beyond the last full measure of devotion, if that is possible. His is a story of almost unbelievable endurance, courage and patriotism. Here is a short course courtesy of the Denton Foundation that I saved a while back: In June 1965, he began a combat tour in Vietnam as prospective Commanding Officer of Attack Squadron Seventy-Five. On July 18, 1965, Denton was

Quick, did you see that? Senate Democrats just pulled another Washington wink-wink on Obamacare. For those who might need a refresher, the WWW is the old standby of professional Washington politicians from both parties when they need to look like they are doing something concrete when in fact they´re just blowing smoke. In the present case, Senators Mark Warner of Virginia, Mark Begich of Alaska, Mary Landrieu of Louisiana, Heidi Heitkamp of North Dakota and Joe Manchin of West Virginia are offering a package of Obamacare “fixes.” Maine´s independent Sen. Angus King, who caucuses with the Democrats, is also a

I have no objections to Jeb Bush running for president. He obviously has a wide appeal as a potential candidate. (Snip) His support of Common Core, however, will also find many who are in the conservative ranks objecting, since they fear that Common Core represents educational centralism and having the government ram federal standards down their throats. What I do object to is that Bush is already being heralded as the obvious candidate, the man to whom the big money must and will flow. As the Washington Post reports: Many of the Republican Party’s most powerful insiders and financiers have begun a

A recently released Pentagon study examines how China is preparing for future conflict and it is vastly different from the future wars envisioned by many in the Pentagon. (Snip) The new report, obtained by the Free Beacon, identified that China recognizes the limited utility of nuclear and even conventional military force, and to pursue its political objectives, China is preparing for what is called the three warfares: psychological, media, and legal. These warfare techniques allow China to achieve strategic objectives using new military technology that has not been considered in the past by the West. The report concludes the Pentagon

A spectacular Roman Catholic church in Syracuse, NY is about to become the Mosque of Jesus, Son of Mary. Holy Trinity Church, established in 1891, is a stunning piece of Gothic-style architecture with glorious stained glass windows depicting the life of Christ. It was closed in 2010 when the Catholic diocese there blamed a declining number of priests and a population shift from the cities to the suburbs. St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church took over ownership of the building, and it was registered with the Syracuse Landmark Preservation Board. In 2012, St. John’s petitioned the preservation board to sell the

When Bill and Melinda Gates go to Africa and see healthy people and sick people, they presumably have a single thought: what can we do to make everyone healthy? (Snip) When Bill Gates looks at education in America and sees good students and bad students, he probably assumes that these variations are part of the human condition. That’s not a promising problem to focus on. What fascinates Bill Gates is something else entirely: namely, the variety and incoherence from school to school, city to city, and state to state. It looks so messy and inefficient. And he thinks: a guy with

The Environmental Protection Agency says a rule it proposed this week merely clarifies its existing authority over the nation´s waterways. Republicans say it´s "the biggest land grab in the history of the world," as House Appropriations Committee Chairman Hal Rogers, R-Ky., called it. There is some certainty about the EPA´s rule defining the waters of the United States -- the buzz it has generated is not going away any time soon. The EPA, in conjunction with the Army Corps of Engineers, says the proposed rule would clarify which streams, rivers, wetlands and other waterways are within its regulatory jurisdiction. Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker on Thursday signed a measure into law that eliminates absentee voting on weekends ahead of elections but vetoed a provision that restricted weekday voting hours across the state. Wisconsin law allows voters to cast absentee ballots by mail or hand them in to their polling places before election day. Walker, a Republican who is seeking re-election, vetoed a part of the bill the majority Republican legislature approved that capped voting at 45 hours per week. Voting will be allowed only

If Betsey McCaughey is correct (and I bet she is, because she has not only read the entire ObamaCare bill, she has written a book about it), Supreme Court Justice Elena Kagan publicly humiliated herself during the oral arguments on the Hobby Lobby case, revealing that she either did not read the law, or failed to comprehend it if she did so. Writing in the New York Sun, McCaughey lays out what is wrong with the Justice’s declaration about Obamacare: she asserted that the statute itself mandates provision of birth control. Not one word in the Affordable Care Act guarantees health plans will cover birth control products.

President Bill Clinton´s guilty conscience over his affair with Monica Lewinsky – and a desire to repair his shattered reputation by using the State of the Union address – set his speechwriters an unenviable task, newly released archive papers reveal. The former president appeared to be trying to butter up his wife, Hillary Clinton, out of guilt – or perhaps to fool her – before the scandal broke. And he was determined to try to convince the American public afterwards that he was still of a high moral character.
