Galesburg,IL--In a week when he tried to focus attention on the struggles of the middle class, President Obama said in an interview that he was worried that years of widening income inequality and the lingering effects of the financial crisis had frayed the country’s social fabric and undermined Americans’ belief in opportunity. (Snip)“If we don’t do anything, then growth will be slower than it should be. Unemployment will not go down as fast as it should. Income inequality will continue to rise,” he said. “That’s not a future that we should accept.”
Comments: And what, pray, does Edward Scissorhands propose to do?
He can no longer blame Bush for his own failures. He owns this economy. He should give up golf until he fixes it. He should get rid of the Dept. of Education, the EPA, the IRS, the DOJ and all the other parasites on our economy. Then he should clean the WH by getting rid of Valerie Jarrett. It is obvious that her policies are not working.
Yeah, there are income gaps in this nation, but is putting everyone on the government dole going to make everything better? Does me receiving a government check in my mailbox every month for doing nothing, going to raise my standard of living or make America stronger? Does depending on the government for my necessities make me more free? Do any of his policies actually make people financially equal?
What a dumbass!
Is this man really that stupid? Or does he like the thought that he is smarter than everyone else and knows what´s best for the people? I´m sure Stalin, Hitler and Mao thought the same thing.

Ever notice the guy´s obsessed with material possessions? Never seen a photo op with him just looking at a sunset, photographing a bluebird, or listening to Beethoven´s Moonlight Sonata. Money politics aside, the guy is the absolute worst role model ever seen in this country.
Legalizing 11 million poor illegals, thus encouraging another 11 million to wade across the Rio Grande would further increase that gap. Not to mention the McCain-Graham approved increases in Guest workers and H-1B visas.
Sadly, Barry hasn´t the economic or quantitative skills to understand that. It´s all about community organizing in his tiny, insulated mind.
To be fair .......... CEO´s and other top managers of major corporations continue to receive massive pay and benefits while those in the trenches are lucky to see a 3% pay raise. Likewise, Hollywood actors get 8 figure payouts for a film, while those on the crew get peanuts. And while the dems caterwaul about US corporations moving offshore, they are largely silent about the number of TV shows and movies filled in Canada etc to avoid US taxes and or higher incomes.
I don´t begrudge CEO´s earning good money. But it seems to me that their salaries spiral upwards while I get a pay raise that is immediately wiped out by higher taxes and prices. Perhaps if they got less, the hourly employees could get a few extra cents or better benefits.
The "Limbaugh Theorem": Obama speaks to the masses as though he is totally disconnected from the "fraying" of our social fabric. But how about the economic "fabric" as well?
Obama has been called out on his deceptive practice of blaming "Washington" and Republicans for the disasters that have happened since he was elected.
The act no longer works so he´s on the road perfecting it. Only dummies will believe that he´s working against sinister forces that have torn America part. Too bad there are that many dummies still voting.
The middle class is having a hard time trying to keep a standard of living BECAUSE if the government!
The sheer size of government (mostly due to hand outs and unneeded enforcment of unneeded new statues) and the continued growth of government has cause taxes to be raised to such an extent that it takes TWO wage earners to support any standard of living.
And now, people are getting underwater because two incomes aren´t adequate in some cases. So some are taking second jobs.
The job market is shrinking as 9 million fewer jobs exist since the Obama regime came to power, and now many of THOSE jobs are being reworked at "part-time" to avoid the severe penalties and costs of Obamacare.
Too many people are going to be trying to get scarce jobs the the illegal alien population which is largely unskilled work will be fighting tooth and nail to secure.
All because of big government and overtaxing people to support it.
Obama knows nothing about Income Gaps. Obviously, he hasn´t studied history, or he would know that industry (the kind where companies build things people want to buy) is what puts people back to work.
Democrats and too many colleges and universities have tried to drive business out of business with their misguided notion that manufacturing anything will hurt everything from the trees, the land, the rivers, the mountains and the air we breathe. Throw in outrageous union contracts and voila! businesses downsize, cut back hours and finally stop producing their product in this country. Thank you, Democrats and your union buddies - now America really does have an "Income Gap".
Actually, the income gap is a good thing. Think about it, we basically have teenagers, college students, and adults that need to work. These groups fit into the hierarchy of the different needs of a business. Business owners have different levels of needs from their employees.
Obama wants to mess around with all of this so that everyone gets equal wealth.
How is he going to work it out so that people have the same amount of bills? This "equal" mentality is a lazy one and a farce. Obama - we aren´t numbers. Quite honestly, I don´t mind working for a living.
In every job I´ve had there has always been income gaps. The president, owner, or CEO of the company has always made more than front line managers or other workers. Same in the military. A four star general earns a lot more than a private does.

Just like the "phony" narrative-this is pure projection. Everything this fraud has done is designed to increase the income gap. Obamacare is the method. IRS abuse of power is the means. We cannot impeach him until we hold the Senate with an overwhelming majority of Conservatives-not RINOS like maccain and graham. Is it possible? In Gods hands.
Income gap could be fixed very quickly if the United States government would support cheap, abundant domestic energy. With modern technology the myth of "running out" is exposed as bull-oney - the supply of natural gas, for example, is nearly infinite. Real science has shown "climate change" a hoax. No economy grows to properity through conservation. None ever has. The strategic economic advantage of the USA is its energy resources, and we are strapped with a bi-partisan policy of "No" and ever-increasing costs for users.
Does the man truly not understand that there are far too many "takers" for the "makers" to support? He has swallowed the tale that we are a rich county, and he can continue to redistribute forever and never run out of other people´s money. Sometimes you just have to wonder about the complete lack of intelligence from the so-called smartest man in the room.
Is this Times article supposed to cover for the last one from these two on the same subject. This coverage article is in a ´lite´ compared to their first. They must have been chastised from the WH and now trying to soft-soak the readers. I believe their first version.
"Fraying the U.S. social fabric" is one of the major goals of the left. It started decades ago with easy divorce and abortion, then the NEA and the removal of Christianity and prayer combined with "sex education" in the school system, and the economic need for two-incomes in the family so Mom and Dad both have to work to make ends meet. Add to that the re-defining of what a family actually is and gay marriage and you begin to get the idea.
Our fraying social fabric is necessary so the populace will begin to need bigger and bigger centralized government to meet their cradle to grave needs. People devoted to God will not give their allegiance to big government and solid, self-sufficient families don´t need a nanny state.
#7, I´m not trying to get in your face but have you ever considered becoming a CEO yourself? If you have the drive, energy, education etc., go into business for yourself. When you get right down to it, you have two choices. This only applies if you haven´t come from a wealthy family. You can work for someone else or for yourself.
Charles Payne, via Doug Ross, responding to Obama´s excessive use of the word "inequality" in his recent speech on the economy:
He talked about [income inequality] being morally wrong. You know, Stuart, if you and I entered this building and there were different rules for each of us, that would be morally wrong. But if I dropped out of high school and smoked weed all day and you worked your way through college and made more money than I did, that´s not inequality, that´s just. (snip)
In my mind -- and I hate to say this -- I think President Obama would love to see civil unrest in this country very much like the Arab Spring. I think what he´s trying to do is to spark this revolution against the wealthy, against the "One Percent" who are holding us back, who are hoarding this money.
And that, ladies & gentlemen, is what it´s all about. Definitely NOT the Hokey Pokey.
Lets look at the last half of the 20th century. Our economy has grown because entrepreneurs discovered how to build the next great thing or devise new ways to access resources that were know but not previously economically accessible. These innovations create wealth as long as the production is taking place in our country. The entrepreneur gets the greatest wealth, but as long as production occurs within our borders, the middle class shares in the wealth.
Compare that to European Socialist Democracy. There is a very small middle class because they have little production. There is economic equality among the proles whose standard of living is way below the Party members. Obama wants us to become a Socialist democracy.
Idiocy. If the income of every income earner in the US were to double tomorrow the income gap would double too. Obama would say, oh no we can´t let that happen because with such a huge income gap the social fabric would just fray to pieces.
The income gap is meaningless. The important thing is to have a growing vibrant economy so there are plenty of jobs for everyone so they can work as hard as they please to obtain as big of an income as they want or can manage.
It is maddening that he says such things with a straight face, as if he really cares, and the "give me more" crowd eat it up. But he really has worked at achieving just that situation and hopes it will happen. The have-nots will attack the few who have it all in their minds and we have a nice socialist revolution. Oh if we only had a control factor in Congress, or the DOJ, or the Press...
Once again he pretends that he is OUTSIDE Washington looking in. He does everything he can to detach himself from the disasters he creates, then acts as if he is trying to fix them but can´t, because he is an innocent bystander.. The lofos eat this up and the press lets him get away with it.
In a major rant at radio host Sway Calloway this week Kanye West went full tilt against the fashion establishment that is preventing him from unleashing his artistry-in-apparel on the world: “I am Warhol. I am the No. 1 most impactful artist of our generation. I am Shakespeare in the flesh. Walt Disney. Nike. Google. Now, who’s going to be the Medici family and stand up and let me create more? Or do you want to marginalize me til I’m out of my moment?” Dear Kanye Warhol-Shakespeare-Disney-Google-West, So you want to be a fashion designer! You actually did launch a
PHILADELPHIA--A horse pulling a buggy with an Amish family aboard in rural Pennsylvania was struck by a bullet fired from a moving car and later died, police said on Tuesday.(Snip)"At the time, they believed it was a firecracker," Weaver said. "They didn´t realize it was a gunshot." The family continued home, where they realized the animal had been injured. "When they got to the farm, the farmer noticed blood from the horse´s mouth," Weaver said. The horse died before a veterinarian arrived.
The Treasury Department said on Thursday that it would sell its remaining shares in General Motors by year’s end, allowing the government to finally sever ties to the bailed-out automaker a few months sooner than expected.(Snip)Barring a sudden jump in G.M.’s stock price, the government is on track to lose about $10 billion on its investment. So far, it has recovered about $38.4 billion. By contrast, other rescue efforts, including the bailout of the American International Group, have generated profits for taxpayers. But administration officials have long argued that the aim was not to make a profit from its investments
WASHINGTON — A mutiny has erupted among photographers who cover President Obama over what they say is the White House’s increasing practice of excluding them from events involving the president and then releasing its own photos or video.(Snip)“As surely as if they were placing a hand over a journalist’s camera lens,” the three-page letter said, “officials in this administration are blocking the public from having an independent view of important functions of the executive branch of government.” The Obama administration has embraced social media as a way to get its message to the public beyond the traditional news media.
Secretary of State John Kerry just scrapped 190 years of U.S. foreign policy in Latin America, casually declaring the Monroe Doctrine is over. Why didn´t he just ring the dinner triangle for Russia, China, Iran and their terrorist catspaws to set up shop, too? "President James Monroe," Kerry told the Organization of American States in Washington Monday, "declared that the United States would unilaterally, and as a matter of fact, act as the protector of the region... And throughout our nation´s history, successive presidents have reinforced that doctrine and made a similar choice. "Today, however, we have made a different choice. The
After allegations were made about the legitimacy of the author´s account of the attack on the U.S. diplomatic compound in Benghazi, Libya last September, Simon & Schuster has halted publication and sale of The Embassy House: The Explosive Eyewitness Account of the Libyan Embassy Siege by the Solider Who Was There, by Sgt. AVANNAH, Ga. — The uninsured pour into Memorial Health hospital here: the waitress with cancer in her voice box who for two years assumed she just had a sore throat. (Snip) Now, in a perverse twist, many of the poor people who rely on safety-net hospitals like Memorial will be doubly unlucky. A government subsidy, little known outside health policy circles but critical to the hospitals’ survival, is being sharply reduced under the new health law. The subsidy, which for years has helped defray the cost of uncompensated and undercompensated care, was cut substantially on the assumption that the hospitals
The Affordable Care Act’s website debut has been compared to the Titanic disaster. The analogy is fair, in that the ship’s captain demonstrated an inexplicable lack of interest in and respect for the risks presented by the iceberg-infested waters through which his vessel was sailing. (Snip) As many parallels as there are between the fateful maiden voyage of the Titanic and the launch of Healthcare.gov, however, there is another colossal technological disaster that may be even more apt: the catastrophic 1986 explosion of the space shuttle Challenger just 73 seconds after liftoff. Exhaustive postaccident analyses revealed that the immediate cause
Insurers say the early buyers of health coverage on the nation´s troubled new websites are older than expected so far, raising early concerns about the economics of the insurance marketplaces. If the trend continues, an older, more expensive set of customers could drive up prices for everyone, the insurers say, by forcing them to spread their costs around. "We need a broad range of people to make this work, and we´re not seeing that right now," said Heather Thiltgen of Medical Mutual of Ohio, the state´s largest insurer by individual customers. "We´re seeing the population skewing older."(Snip)The average enrollee age
Here’s the latest leading theory about those mystery barges in Portland and San Fransisco: They’re party boats for launching Google Glass, the Internet giant’s computerized eyewear. The barges, and the odd-looking structures on top of them, have been linked to Google in documents from the Coast Guard in New London, Conn., and in an apparent slip-of-the-tongue by a Coast Guard official in California.(Snip)But new evidence indicates the barges will be towed to large coastal cities, where wealthy customers will be invited aboard for exclusive looks at Google Glass. The wearable computer, still under development, would enable people to communicate with the
The four-story structure that has been docked in Portland Harbor since Oct. 10 is connected in some way to Google, according to Coast Guard documents obtained by a Connecticut newspaper through a Freedom of Information Act request. (Snip)The purpose of the structure and the barge it rests on is not described in the documents, which do reveal a plan to operate the vessel in various ports, the first being New York Harbor. Tugboats from Portland towed the barge from New London, arriving Oct. 10 at Rickers Wharf on Portland’s waterfront, a facility owned and operated by Cianbro.Cianbro’s Chief Executive Officer

I have never been much of a conspiracy theorist. For me it was always Oswald by himself from the Texas School Book Depository and nothing in the intervening fifty years has disabused me of this notion. For the most part, I’m an Occam’s Razor kind of guy — the most obvious explanation is likely to be true. (Snip) To put it bluntly, Occam’s Razor has moved. Things that were once possibilities now seem almost certainties to me. Principal among those is that Obama’s academic records are perpetually unavailable for a reason — and that reason is most likely that they reveal
One of President Obama´s chief political assets has been his ability to excite young people like almost no politician in history. But the days of America´s youth fawning over the president are over. A new Harvard University Institute of Politics poll released Wednesday confirms what other surveys have shown in recent months: Millennials have soured on Obama so much this year that their opinion of him largely mirrors the American public´s. Even though Obama does not ever have to face another election, he should be worried about the findings for a couple of reasons, which we will dive into momentarily.
President Obama will cast growing income inequality and a decline in economic mobility as a “fundamental threat to the American dream” during a speech Wednesday in Washington. The speech will serve as an early preview for next year’s State of the Union address, according to a White House official, who said Obama would focus much of his energy over the next three years on the issue. “The decisions we make over the next few years will determine whether or not our children will grow up in an America where, if you work hard, you can get ahead,” the official said.
Good stuff from Jonathan Turley at today’s House hearing on executive power, although I regret that I couldn’t find a more user-friendly format for you to watch. There’s no compilation clip; you’ll have to make do with the C-SPAN embed by fast-forwarding to the time cues I give you and being patient while the vid buffers (and buffers, and buffers).(Snip)That brings us to point two: Even if Congress can’t stop Obama, the courts can. The problem there, though, says Turley, is that O and the DOJ have argued successfully in many cases that no one has standing to sue him
During a presentation at the White House in which President Barack Obama touted the benefits of the Affordable Care Act, the president declared that his signature health care reform law was not going to be repealed. This assertion led his administration members, his staff, and audience members to rise from their seats and give the president a standing ovation. Obama said that ACA opponents’ alternative to the health care reform law is to champion repeal and going back to the health care delivery system status quo ante. He specifically cited Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-KY) who he said was asked directly for
A stunning new study unveiled on Fox News´ Hannity finds that President Barack Obama’s White House calendar records just one face-to-face meeting between Obama and his Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Kathleen Sebelius in the more than three-and-a-half years leading up to the disastrous Obamacare launch. The startling statistic comes from a new Government Accountability Institute (GAI) analysis of Obama’s own official White House calendar, as well as the Politico presidential calendar, and raises new questions about Obama’s executive leadership and management throughout the implementation of his singular legislative achievement. More alarming still, the president’s schedule lists 277 private
[Video] President Obama on Wednesday declared that addressing income inequality would be the focus of “all” of the White House’s efforts “for the rest of my presidency.” In a sweeping address that touched on raising the minimum wage, investing in infrastructure and ending tax breaks for the wealthy, Obama warned that the American economy has become “profoundly unequal,” declaring economic mobility the “challenge of our time.” “The combined trends of increasing inequality and decreasing mobility pose a fundamental threat to the American dream, our way of life, and what we stand for around the globe,” he said in an hour-long
Just over two weeks ago, MSNBC host Martin Bashir delivered a harsh piece of commentary that culminated in the suggestion that someone should “s-h-i-t” in former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin‘s (R-AK) mouth. Bashir offered an abject apology on his next broadcast, but a chorus of critics continued to demand action against the host. After a reported “vacation” for the host earlier this week, Bashir announced, Wednesday afternoon, that MSNBC and Martin Bashir are parting ways. Here’s the statement from Martin Bashir, via email: After making an on-air apology, I asked for permission to take some additional time out around the Thanksgiving holiday. Upon
Nineteen people stood behind President Obama on stage in the Executive Office Building Tuesday as the president kicked off a new campaign to promote Obamacare. One of those people, a young Florida woman named Monica Weeks, introduced Obama after telling the story of being struck with Crohn´s Disease at age 19 and receiving expensive treatments for several years that were covered by her parents´ health care plan — because Obamacare allowed her to remain on that plan until age 26. Now, Weeks said, she has coverage through a job. "The Affordable Care Act gives young adults who are just starting
Amid an array of “knock-out” attacks against a number of Jews in Brooklyn’s Crown Heights neighborhood, a city councilwoman pointed to the success of the Jewish community as triggering the aggression. Councilwoman-elect Laurie Cumbo emphasized that while she “admire[s] the Jewish community immensely” for its work ethic, black teens may see it differently. “While I personally regard this level of tenacity, I also recognize that for others, the accomplishments of the Jewish community triggers feelings of resentment, and a sense that Jewish success is not also their success,” Cumbo, who was recently elected, wrote in a letter. Chief among the issues
MSNBC has announced that Chris Matthews, Barack Obama´s most excitable fan, will be interviewing the President on Thursday´s Hardball. Fawning over the liberal politician is incredibly common among journalists, but Matthews has taken it to a whole new level. According to the network host, Obama is a "perfect," "cool," brilliant figure who is comparable to Jesus, Abraham Lincoln and John F. Kennedy. The verbose Matthews has no filter when it comes to the Democrat, even once bizarrely blurting out that an Obama speech made him "forget" that the commander in chief "was black." To prepare you for the likely love-fest
Continued global warming poses a risk of rapid, drastic changes in some human and natural systems, a scientific panel warned Tuesday, citing the possible collapse of polar sea ice, the potential for a mass extinction of plant and animal life and the threat of immense dead zones in the ocean. At the same time, some worst-case fears about climate change that have entered the popular imagination can be ruled out as unlikely, at least over the next century, the panel found. These include a sudden belch of methane from the ocean or the Arctic that would fry the planet, as
