Texas Democratic Congressmen Rubén Hinojosa and Beto O’Rourke are pushing back against efforts to further secure the U.S.-Mexico border, arguing that more migrants would die while illegally crossing the border into America. “They come here to work hard and they come here to be reunited with their families. The sad truth is that many do not make it to accomplish any of those joyful things that I just described. Many of them lose their lives in the dry cactus and mesquite-filled lands of south Texas where I come from, the area that I represent,”
Comments: This illustrates more brilliant logic coming from a Democrat. s/o McCain is probably sorry he didn´t come up with this lame comment. It is criminal that the border is controlled by drug cartels and gangs. They should all be fired for not honoring their oaths of office and failing to protect this country from enemies.
So, the solution must be to have Acela trains speeding north from Mexico? or cooling stations throughout the desert with free taxis waiting? or fill 747s south of the border and deliver to passengers´ desired locations?
Ridiculous, true, but maybe not so much as to be impossible, judging by this article.
Using their logic we should tear down the fence we just put up. Why don´t we just pave a road for them to use? Democrats will block any real effort to enforce the border. Democrats are for open borders and for hordes of uneducated, illiterate, unskilled, sickly illegal immigrates who will become future Democrats and entitled to everything - food stamps, healthcare, housing, cell phones etc.
There is NO security on our Rio Grande border...and there has not been.....guns walk across, money flows back and forth,Border Patrol statons get closed.....dufflebags filled with severed heads in the town of Mexico go unreported. Mordida rules, as always.
If you didn´t think democrats were insane before this should do it. If it was much harder to cross the border illegally less people would try it and there would be fewer deaths. I have always found it disgusting that democrats encourage this behavior however I´m certainly not surprised. Look at the death and destruction in Chicago that seems to be fine with democrats. They really are the evil party.
Maybe someone will build a nice hotel or theme park for them to visit before they go on their way to the various 50 states (or is that 57 states). A small airport, car rental, bus station all waiting for their preferred mode of transportation to the land of milk and honey.
Geesh! Might as well start calling this country the United States of Mexico! Those poor Mexicans who can´t get here to be with their families. How about THEY made the decision to split up their family. We didn´t drag them here. Also, once a Mexican comes here, we make him legal, THEN he brings his entire extended family here as well. Mexico´s economy is booming now. They need to stay there and support their country. We don´t have enough jobs for OUR workers because Mexicans are taking, especially in construction. No..I don´t feel sorry for them at all and YES, we do need to secure the border, NOW!
Republicans should focus on how many illegals MURDER Americans. Watching Fox-UMA Pemaraju? Keeps arguing with both Steve King and Louis Gogmert and Father of Dead Seal. She is NOT professional -but seems to have drunk the Dem Kool Aid.
If banks didn´t have security and big steel vaults I could get rich. Liberals really are stupid. There´s not enough misery for illegals trying to enter the United States. I don´t care what happens to them.
Trayvon Martin and his family fatigue marks this for the "who cares" bin.
People are free to choose their own poison. The box office failures this summer that threaten Hollywood are a symptom of Americans being cash poor. When it gets down to survival mode, some pc niceties just aren´t that important if you aren´t the ones being shot at.
The North American Union (NAU) is a theoretical economic and political union of Canada, Mexico, and the United States. The concept is loosely based on the European Union, occasionally including a common currency called the Amero or the North American Dollar. A union of the North American continent, sometimes extending to Central and South America, has been the subject of academic concepts for over a century, as well as becoming a common trope in science fiction. One reason for the difficulty in realizing the concept is that individual developments in each region have failed to prioritize a larger union.
If Federal welfare, healthcare, education and all the other freebees ended tomorrow the scramble for jobs would be enormous and I´d be willing to bet that any illegal would be ratted out in a second. Or there would be riots and huge numbers of zombies wouldn´t survive. There must be a downside someplace.
While those congressmen who represent districts along the borderline know a lot of what is happening there, they also have a big-time conflict of interest in allowing the current out of control borderline to remain the same, as a big percentage of their constituents are involved and make money both directly and indirectly from the massive amount of contraband and people smuggling that goes on at the borderline.
The only way that the liberal Democrats will go along with even a little bit more enforcement along the borderline, is if the wimpy Republicans cave, and pass their amnesty and special path to citizenship bill that would either legalize or allow an estimated 46 million foreign workers and their foreign family members into the USA in the next ten years, with complete access to the legal US job market. If that bill does pass, the borderline as far as people smuggling is concerned would become largely irrelevant as just about any Mexican who wants to come here to work would be given a visa and would be able to legally enter the USA with his or her family.
The Democrats want to grant all those aliens US citizenship so that they can vote. Once that happens it would become politically impossible for the USA to administer or maintain any sort of effective border controls along the current borderline. You can see that by the way those two border rat congressman talked.
he first two months of Obamacare created a rare convergence between supporters and opponents of the law: Everyone agreed that the rollout was a disaster. The consensus reached all the way up to President Obama himself, who went so far as to list the "poor execution on my administration’s part" alongside the GOP´s "reckless shutdown" as reasons that "frustrations with Washington are at an all-time high." It was like an Obamacare miracle. But with HealthCare.gov improving, the convergence is ending. For Obamacare´s supporters, the IT problems really were IT problems. Now that the Web site is working the law will
Kanye West speaking with SaturdayNightOnline.com host Garrett, West Saturday night “Like, I’m just giving of my body on the stage; I’m putting my life at risk, literally!” “When I think about when I’m on the ‘Can’t Tell Me Nothing,’ and ‘Coldest Winter’ moment, like that mountain goes really, really high. And if I slipped… You never know. And I think about it. I think about my family and I’m like, wow, this is like being a police officer or something, in war or something.”
Kevin Kolbye, Assistant Special Agent in Charge for the Federal Bureau of Investigation in Dallas, served as the on-scene commander for the Benghazi investigation but has not yet testified before Congress about what he knows. Republican Congressman Frank Wolf wants to know why. Kolbye addressed the GovSec West Conference in Dallas in late November and discussed various aspects of the Benghazi investigation with attendees. During his presentation, Kolbye noted that, contrary to initial reports, FBI assets were on the scene in Benghazi within a few days after the attack. Breitbart News reported that story when it broke.
On Sunday, a media reporter for the Washington Post said he believed that MSNBC had fired host Martin Bashir because conservatives were relentless and did not quit in hammering Bashir and MSNBC for Bashir´s suggestion that someone should urinate and defecate in the mouth of former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin. Bashir resigned from MSNBC last week, nearly a month after he made his scripted remarks on his MSNBC program. Appearing on CNN´s Reliable Sources with host Brian Stelter, the Post´s Paul Farhi said "the outrage was from the right, the idea that Sarah Palin and, by the way, a woman, obviously was
Firebrand Texas Republican Rep. Steve Stockman on Monday mounted a surprise primary challenge to Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas), setting the stage for the latest potentially explosive battle between a tea party darling and an incumbent firmly backed by the GOP establishment. Stockman, a far-right conservative who has called for the president’s impeachment, filed for the seat minutes before the 6 p.m. local deadline, confirmed Spencer Yeldell, a spokesman for the Republican Party of Texas. Cornyn — with cash-on-hand clocking in at nearly $7 million — is still the heavy favorite, but Stockman’s entry into the race could force
On Monday, the National Journal reported that "documents filed by other groups show that two labor organizations, the International Union of Operating Engineers and the Laborers´ International Union of North America, directed a combined $400,000 to the Republican group [the Defending Main Street super PAC] in September and October." The Defending Main Street super PAC was organized at the end of 2012 by former Congressman Steve LaTourette (R-OH), and has very publicly declared war on the Tea Party. It is affiliated with and has offices at the same location as the Republican Main Street Project, which LaTourette currently
New York Republican Rep. Peter King, who has been vocal about his interest in running for president in 2016, won´t shy away from a fight with another tough-talking Northeastern politician. “You should ask Chris Christie if me being in the race disqualifies him," King told City & State when asked whether the New Jersey governor´s likely candidacy will preclude his own. King announced his interest in the race earlier this year but hasn´t yet made an official decision to enter, and many observers believe Christie´s candidacy would overshadow King´s, as they´re both tough-taking moderate Republicans from neighboring states. King has so far
George Zimmerman´s defense lawyer has asked a judge to allow him to see his girlfriend, who has recanted the domestic violence allegations which led to his arrest last month, new court documents show. The apparent about-face by Zimmerman´s girlfriend, Samantha Scheibe, throws his latest criminal case into doubt, leaving prosecutors to reassess whether or not to pursue charges. "I want to be with George," Scheibe says in a sworn statement which accompanies a new motion. She adds: "I do not want George Zimmerman charged. I make this decision freely, knowingly and voluntarily, without any intimidation coercion or undue
Controversial House Democrat Alan Grayson lost $18 million as part of a criminal scheme run by a Virginia man that bilked more than 100 investors out of more than $35 million, according to federal court documents. William Dean Chapman, 44, of Sterling, Va.,was sentenced to 12 years in federal prison on Friday. Chapman pled guilty to one count of wire fraud in May, according to the U.S. Attorney’s office for the Eastern District of Virginia, which oversaw the case. Chapman was the founder and owner of Alexander Capital Markets. Customers would give their stock holdings to Chapman as collateral for loans. Chapman
President Barack Obama is bringing his family of aides and advisors down to South Africa for Nelson Mandela’s mass-media send-off. “For us it’s the President and the First Lady, the Attorney General [Eric Holder], Susan Rice, Valerie Jarrett,” Ben Rhodes, the White House’ deputy national security advisor for strategic communications, told reporters during an impromptu press conference on Air Force One. Vice President Joe Biden and Secretary of State John Kerry are staying behind, but former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton was on board Air Force One as well. The memorial is expected to be attended by hundreds of world
For the last few weeks, the media has been having a quiet debate about whether or not to take a stand against using official White House photos in protest against being shut out of many White House events. On Monday, MSNBC anchor Chuck Todd took things a step further, calling the limited press access “a version of propaganda.” Todd qualified that statement to make it clear he’s not saying this is out-and-out, overt propaganda, but argued it does come across to people as such when outside photographers aren’t allowed access. AP photojournalist Charlie Dharapak agreed, adding that it’s a “visual press
Many of the city’s major clothing stores tried to defuse the “shop and frisk” scandal on Monday by agreeing to an anti-profiling policy demanded by civil-rights activists led by the Rev. Al Sharpton. Barneys, Macy’s, Bergdorf Goodman, Saks Fifth Avenue, Lord & Taylor and the Gap are among the retailers that promised to post and abide by a “Customers’ Bill of Rights” in the wake of allegations that some black shoppers were targeted for questioning by cops after purchasing pricey items. The move followed a sluggish start to the Christmas shopping season, which is unusually short this year due to late date
The question all week long was this: Who are you going to believe, an illegal alien or the president of the United States of America? Obviously, if it’s a president who once went by an alias, Barry Soetoro, you go with Uncle Omar, 100 percent, no questions asked. And so it was that the White House finally admitted to another, uh, misstatement — despite previous denials, Barack/Barry did sleep on his beloved Uncle Omar’s couch in Cambridge when he first moved here to attend Harvard Law School (speaking of which, we’re still waiting to see the president’s grades and his LSAT scores). But the
How do you get your arms around the catastrophe known as Obamacare? Is it even possible? At this point, I’m not sure it is. The list of individual disasters which threaten to ruin one-sixth of the U.S. economy and what has been, up until now, the best healthcare system in the world is exhaustive, and exhausting. The examples I will identify here barely scratch the surface. First but by no means foremost, we have the supposedly new and improved HealthCare.gov. Except it’s not, even the visible part. Stories still abound of people still failing to get in or to get through the enrollment
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has announced a new five-year strategic plan to improve safety for elderly drivers and passengers. Although they are statistically among the safest on the road, the number of older drivers is increasing dramatically — and with it, that group´s numbers of injuries and deaths. Since 2003, the population of older adults, defined as age 65 and older, has increased by 20% and the number of licensed older drivers increased by 21% to 35 million in 2012, according to NHTSA. Last year, NHTSA reported that 5,560 people older than 65 died and 214,000 were injured
A veteran Washington adviser who has worked for four Presidents on both sides of the political aisle said that the stunning Government Accountability Report report that found President Barack Obama has not had a one-on-one meeting with Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius since the passage of Obamacare over three years ago is an indictment of the entire White House operation and shows that the Obama administration has bordered on "malfeasance." "I have no doubt the White House is right, that Secretary Sebelius was in several group meetings with the president about health care," Gergen caveated, "but the whole
President Barack Obama’s Facebook page on Saturday posted a message honoring the dead from Pearl Harbor—accompanied by a picture of Obama descending the stairs next to the Pearl Harbor Memorial. The picture barely fits the name of the Arizona Memorial so it can frame Obama in the foreground. The post´s statement reads: Today, with solemn pride and reverence, let us remember those who fought and died at Pearl Harbor, acknowledge everyone who carried their legacy forward, and reaffirm our commitment to upholding the ideals for which they served. President Obama The Obama Administration´s current shipbuilding plan shrinks the size of
Barack Obama did not tell the whole story this autumn when he tried to make the case that Bashar al-Assad was responsible for the chemical weapons attack near Damascus on 21 August. In some instances, he omitted important intelligence, and in others he presented assumptions as facts. Most significant, he failed to acknowledge something known to the US intelligence community: that the Syrian army is not the only party in the country’s civil war with access to sarin, the nerve agent that a UN study concluded – without assessing responsibility – had been used in the rocket attack. In the months before the attack,
Dr. Ezekiel Emanuel, the hapless, goalpost-shifting so-called "architect" of Obamacare, told Fox News´ Chris Wallace on Fox News Sunday that President Barack Obama´s promise "if you like your doctor, you can keep your doctor" was absolutely true--with one important caveat: if you like your doctor, "you can pay for it." Wallace grilled Dr. Emanuel, challenging his false claims that California´s enrollment was keeping pace with the percentage of the young population necessary to keep the system afloat, and pointing out that the president´s promise on doctors would collapse once people lost their insurance or their
Just how much do many Hollywood liberals hate conservatives? In an interview with Playboy, Ben Affleck said, "When I watch a guy [on film] I know is a big Republican, part of me thinks, I probably wouldn’t like this person if I met him": PLAYBOY: You developed a political profile campaigning for presidential candidates Al Gore, John Kerry and Barack Obama. How did that come about? AFFLECK: I grew up in a house with a mother who was a teacher and a Freedom Rider—very left-wing Democrats living in a heterogeneous working-class neighborhood. I picked up a lot of those values there, and I
The U.S. isn´t called "America the Beautiful" for nothing. Each year, millions of tourists come from home and abroad to see the country´s majestic landscape and iconic sites, from the Grand Canyon to the Statue of Liberty. But there are also cool, quirky attractions, like Vermont´s Ben & Jerry´s Factory and Tennessee´s Graceland, the former home of Rock and Roll King Elvis Presley. From California to New York and everywhere in between, the country is chock-full of incredible attractions that keep luring in visitors. Here are the best tourist attractions in every state.
MSNBC host Melissa Harris-Perry opened her program over the weekend with a commentary about the Affordable Care Act’s colloquial moniker: “Obamacare.” She said that the word was originally created as a “derogatory term,” designed by white men as a way to delegitimize President Barack Obama and his achievement. However, she said that the term will soon be synonymous with all of Obama’s accomplishments and she urged her audience to use the term with pride. “I want to talk today about a controversial word. It’s a word that has been with us for years, and like it or not, it’s indelibly
Call me Grinch, call me Scrooge. Call me Lord Voldemort of the Yuletide. None could be worse than sending me a holiday card with glossy photographs of your lovely, smiling family. My wife, Emily, and I place your cards like trophies on our shelves, continuing an old-school practice that began about 175 years ago as a way of maintaining relationships as families and friends moved far and wide. Today’s cards may appear more personalized — with photos of spouses, kids and pets, and distribution lists much smaller than a sprawling collection of Facebook friends. But when I flip over the photo
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu made a last minute decision not to participate in a memorial service for the late South African President Nelson Mandela, despite having notified the South African government that he would attend the event. The decision was made in light of the high transportation costs resulting from the short notice of the trip and the security required for the prime minister in Johannesburg. The Prime Minister’s Office found that the trip would have cost roughly 7 million shekels ($2.4 million) – 2.8 million shekels for chartering a private El Al plane and a further 3.2 million shekels for
