Obama: ‘Throughout Our History,
Islam Has Contributed to the
Character of Our Country’

President Obama welcomed dozens of ambassadors and a handful of lawmakers to last night’s iftar dinner at the White House to break the day’s Ramadan fast by saying “throughout our history, Islam has contributed to the character of our country.” “For Muslims, Ramadan is a time of reflection, a chance to demonstrate one’s devotion to God through prayer and through fasting. But it’s also a time for family and friends to come together — as we do tonight — in a spirit of love and respect, to renew our obligations to one another, as well

It just never ends with this sick Marxist. Of course he was short on specifics, because there aren´t any. I truly don´t know how I´m going to handle the rest of his term. It really is unbearable. The Islamic terrorist murderer at Fort Hood and those two murderers at the Boston Marathon of course were not mentioned. s/o

Maybe it is time they leave and take their 6 th century perversions with them.

What??? I was never even aware that Islam even existed until the Iranian hostage crisis. Thankfully, it is still a minority religion here. Our country was founded by Christians who embraced Judeo-Christian values. That is what has contributed--or at least in the past, did contribute--to the character of our country.

Obama has now taken identity politics to an extreme, distorting history in the process. The narrative is that Islam is character-building.

It´s all about the narrative, don´t forget. The mainstream media will repeat his narrative over and over again in order to inculcate it into the mindsets of low information voters.

Islam -the religion- is against everything, repeat EVERYTHING America stands for. Islam and the modern West are fundamentally incompatible. Muslims have contributed nothing whatever to the "character" of the United States. Nothing. That many, perhaps most, have been good citizens is no less than we are entitled to expect. This has nothing to do with Islam. Indeed, it is, strictly speaking, against the tenets of Islam for a Muslim to be a good citizen of America. How in the world intelligent, educated Muslims manage to reconcile their barbaric, pre-medieval cult with modern political and social values is incomprehensible to me. I wish someone would explain how they manage to do it. I do not believe they are all lying. But I cannot fathom how they manage to make Islam and America work together. Why are not the educated, pro-American Muslims among us explaining this seeming contradiction? Why the strange silence from this group about everything having to do with Islam - unless it is to complain about "Islamophobia" or to demand special privileges?

Is there not ONE honest, intelligent, educated, sincere American Muslim who will trouble themselves to explain to the rest of us how Islam and American and modern Western values can possibly be reconciled? Not ONE?

The other thing that should be mentioned is that Obama is incredibly hypocritical. One minute, he´s all for gay rights. The next, he´s all for Islam. How can these two diametrically opposed viewpoints co-exist in one man? The answer is that Obama is not a man. Rather, he is a symptom of the liberal narrative.

The liberal narrative is driven by the idea that, as President, you can be all things to all people, so long as those people are perceived to be victims. Liberalism is basically a victimhood coalition. If they weren´t tied to a central narrative, they´d be at each others´ throats.

The only thing Muslims have contributed (in large, not individuals) to this country is the personal satisfaction we feel on beating the crap out of them when they try to attack us.

The only Muslims that I´ve noticed contributing at the personal level haven´t been very devout.

His securing the Presidency (twice) was well planned and executed. Those behind the scenes who were able to use the media and lo-fos knew exactly what they were doing and they have done it well.

Now we continue to see their agenda as they attempt to destroy everything our (not his) country stands for and holds dear.

There has been involvement in America since the days of Spain´s rise to power in Europe ~ in the early 1500s.

The Kings of Spain regularly waged war against Moslem Corsairs (private as well as Ottoman) in the Mediterranean. He would dispatch the POWs to a POW camp Spain maintained in South Carolina.

Escapes were frequent and eventually it became customary to believe that every Indian tribe along the coast had one or more Turkish language speakers.

Even John Smith spoke Turkish having learned it as a POW of the Turks.

Eventually England rose to prominance and the Ottoman Port began to view them as a rival to be challenged. So, when America declared independence in 1776, the Ottomans, like the Dutch, jumped at the chance of recognizing our country.

That´s Islamic involvement in America for the first 300 years. ~ It´s there but only specialists in American history of the 1500s know about it.

Wasn´t a big deal. They didn´t build any mosques. No minarets, but maybe a couple of smaller structures that people want to believe were built by the Knights Templar, or maybe even Vikings.

Since so many of those Turkish POWs were actually Greeks or Bosniaks, they just flat out disappeared into the people who made this country. I sometimes encounter their Greek crosses in early pioneer graveyards BTW ~

#40 ~ as you recall there was a major war between the ottoman empire and Western Europe ~ led by Spain ~ back in the 16th century. See battle of lapenta to get a start on that

Earlier the Reconquista went on from the 700s to the late 1400s in spain

America was discovered. By Spain. The entirity of the 1500s in American history is dominated by spain.

They built settlements ~ and set up military garrisons ~ and, in the end, they surveyed the Eastern seaboard and gave it away to other european powers ~ see Treaty of London 1604.

They had a pow camp ~ you saw remains in the movie ´the patriot´ ~ where they took prisoners from their sea battles with the ottomans throughout the 1500s

currently i´m tracking down the work done by Spanish and Swedish surveyors in the late 1500s/early 1600s. it´s all over the place ~ check out the history of spanish hill pennsylvania. interesting discoveries there. we also had a spanish site here in northern va ~ and so on. there was a major drought in the area in the late 1500s so that discouraged settlement then

The Spanish presence along the Eastern Seaboard is news to me; however, the Battle of Lepanto (fought near the Gulf of Corinth in October 1571) is not.

As an historical turning-point, it ranks with Salamis, Trafalgar, and Midway.

The Holy League’s force of just over 200 galleys (led by John of Austria, not by the Spanish contingent – who in fact were repelled twice attempting to board the Ottoman flagship) was outnumbered by about 40 vessels. However, within just five hours the League trounced the Muslims, capturing more than 130 ships, sinking 50, freeing 10,000 Christian galley slaves, and halting the spread of Islam into the northwestern Med.

As well as being the first naval defeat suffered by the Ottomans in more than a century, Lepanto was history’s last major engagement between oar-powered vessels (which had dominated Mediterranean sea warfare for the previous 2300 years).

Jack Beeching’s The Galleys at Lepanto places the battle in its political and social context, using as his central character the victorious commander Don John of Austria, whose brief, almost impossibly colorful life (starting with his birth as the illegitimate son of Emperor Charles V) was the inspiration for generations of swashbuckling fictional heroes.

#47 ~ Without the interest, and financial backing, of King Filippe I/II lapenta would not have been successful ~ nor would various land based forays against the Ottomans in the 1500s ~

The guy was a mover and a shaker. His much more modest son, Filippe ii/iii, solved many European problems by subdividing the Eastern Seaboard. A piece to the French, to his cousin the son of Mary, Queen of Scots, some pieces to Spanish noblemen on the Gulf Coast, a large chunk between Acadia and Carolana given over to what appear to be whatever Protestants cared to go there EXCEPT the Dutch.

There are hidden pieces of 1500s Spanish materials about North America in the Draper papers and a good look at the Spanish Conquest of Mexico and Peru reveals the existence of detailed diaries of priests who´d been on missions in NA. We don´t have them around.

Watch for Beaujolais, Borja/Borgia, Carvajal in religious and church matters in that period ~ they are branches of the family that maintained the defense perimeter in Brittany agains the more primitive Franks from the 6th to the 15th centuries.

Admiral Coligny was a member of the family, as well as 2 popes and maybe 3 antipopes ~ plus a bunch of Bretons who turned from the Reconquista at the end to go to Italy to loot the place as best they could. I´m only interested in the Swedish branch ~ they got in on most of the big surveys and will still surveying by the time the Erie Canal got laid out 200 years later.

How do you ensure that you won’t be ostracized, denounced, or fired if you are a media celebrity, captain of industry, or high public official? For some, sexist banter is certainly no problem. Stand-up comedian Bill Maher called Sarah Palin a c–t and a tw-t, but suffered no ill consequences. David Letterman joked on air that Sarah Palin’s 14-year-old daughter had had sex with Alex Rodriguez during a New York Yankees game. There was no downside to that either. President Obama tosses around “sweetie” as he wishes. No problem with that. No one believes Barack could be condescending to women.

It’s not every day that Bill O’Reilly accuses someone else of expressing “right-wing paranoia,” but that’s what happened Tuesday night when he faced off with Fox News contributor Monica Crowley over a proposed solution to the controversy over voter ID laws. O’Reilly began his show by giving a soft endorsement to an idea put forward by former President Bill Clinton that would add photos to social security cards, which American citizens are already required to have in their possession. “I am all for combating voter fraud by using voter I.D.,” Crowley told O’Reilly. “My issue with the social security card in particular

Sylvia Mathews Burwell, President Obama’s nominee to lead the country’s health care overhaul, remains entangled in a lawsuit brought by shareholders of MetLife accusing her of misleading investors as a director of one of the country’s biggest insurance companies. The federal lawsuit, filed in New York, says the company used a Social Security death index to stop making payments when beneficiaries died, but the company wasn’t as diligent about using the database to track deaths of its policyholders, which triggers payouts, the lawsuit said. Last year, a judge refused to toss a federal lawsuit against the company, including claims against Ms. Burwell

A Republican congressman has introduced a bill that would stop government paychecks for officials who have been found in contempt of Congress — a move that seems designed in the short term to go after Attorney General Eric H. Holder Jr. Mr. Holder has refused to cooperate with the House GOP’s probe into the Fast & Furious gun-walking operation, and the House has voted to find him in contempt. Mr. Holder is challenging that vote in court. Rep. Blake Farenthold, a Texas Republican who publicly excoriated Mr. Holder at a hearing last week, introduced the legislation just before Congress went on vacation,

The White House on Tuesday downplayed the controversy over media access to President Obama, who will hold a moment of silence to mark the Boston Marathon bombing anniversary in the Oval Office without the press. The president and aides will observe the anniversary of the deadly attack behind closed doors at 2:29 p.m., exactly one year after two pressure cookers packed with shrapnel detonated near the finish line of the raise. “The president´s going to have a moment of silence in the Oval Office. There will be some senior advisers there,” said White House press secretary Jay Carney, adding that the tribute

PETA is urging first lady Michelle Obama to substitute fake eggs for the 19,000 real ones to be used in Monday´s Easter Egg Roll, claiming that egg production is cruel and eating them unhealthy and a violation of her “Let´s Move!” agenda. "For chickens on egg factory farms, Easter is not a time of renewal or joy. It can take up to 34 hours in typically hellish conditions for a hen to produce just one of the thousands of eggs slated to be used at the Easter Egg Roll. Furthermore, encouraging the consumption of cruelly sourced, unhealthy eggs is inconsistent

The husband of a Democratic lawmaker has pled guilty to Social Security fraud and other crimes. Henry A. Fellela Jr., the husband of Rhode Island Democratic state Rep. Deborah A. Fellela, pled guilty last week to illegally collecting more than $58,000 in Social Security benefits, according to local reports. Fellela pled guilty to five counts on charges of aggravated identity theft, credit card fraud, Social Security fraud and theft of government funds. This was not Fellela’s first brush with the law. In 1999, he first applied for Supplemental Social Security benefits — the benefits were ultimately terminated when he was

Neurosurgeon Ben Carson says the White House wanted him to apologize for “offending” President Obama after he famously delivered a conservative message at the National Prayer Breakfast last year. Carson, the former director of pediatric neurosurgery at Johns Hopkins Hospital, recalls the events surrounding his 2013 speech in his new book, One Nation: What We Can All Do To Save America’s Future. The Daily Caller obtained an advance copy of the book, which is set for release May 20. “He did not appear to be hostile or angry,” Carson writes of Obama, “but within a matter of minutes after the conclusion of

President Obama inspired a generation of young people to support his historic election in 2008. And in 2012, despite the struggles of his first term, Mr. Obama still managed to win the support of a full 60% of voters age 18-29. But the man who once dreamed of being a transformative leader in the Reagan mold is inspiring few of those young people to follow his lead. "For all the talk about the movement that elected Mr. Obama, the more notable movement of Obama supporters has been away from politics. It appears that few of the young people who voted

On Saturday, I wrote about the standoff at Bundy Ranch. That post drew a remarkable amount of traffic, even though, as I wrote then, I had not quite decided what to make of the story. Since then, I have continued to study the facts and have drawn some conclusions. Here they are. First, it must be admitted that legally, Bundy doesn’t have a leg to stand on. The Bureau of Land Management has been charging him grazing fees since the early 1990s, which he has refused to pay. Further, BLM has issued orders limiting the area on which Bundy’s cows can

Chelsea Clinton says when people ask her these days whether she wants to go into politics, her answer isn’t an automatic “no.” The 34-year-old former first daughter told Fast Company in an interview published Monday, “for so long the answer was just a visceral no. Not because I had made any conscientious, deliberate decision, but since people had been asking for as long as literally I could remember, it was no." Now, the only child of former President Clinton and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton explains, "I live in a city and a state and a country where I

Although the Civil Rights Act, the landmark legislation which just reached its 50th anniversary, made great strides in desegregating the economy, economic discrimination is still widespread, and anti-discrimination legislation alone can never rectify the economic damage inflicted upon blacks by slavery and our Jim Crow apartheid regime. The Civil Rights Act was a mild reform, all things considered, but one conservatives fought with vigor and one many conservatives are still bitter about to this day. When the Civil Rights Act passed in 1964, the primary purpose was to root out discrimination in public accommodations (like hotels and movie theaters)

Megyn Kelly’s "Kelly File" is a great news show. She’s incisive, informed and customarily handles the toughest guest with aplomb. But her lengthy interview of Facebook C.O.O. Sheryl Sandberg about her second book in the Lean In series Lean In: For Graduates was a head shaker. Amazing that she of all people allowed Sandberg to restring the same old, same old, shamed, and shopworn feminist myths about women and girls and then jangle it in front of her viewing audience like something new out of the box. Indeed Kelly all but genuflected in front of this woman. Kept her on thru

Western Washington University sent a questionnaire to students asking them for advice on how the administration could succeed at making sure that in future years, “we are not as white as we are today.” The question notes that WWU’s racial make up does not perfectly reflect the nation at large, and asks students to consider strategies that other universities have used to focus on skin color as the paramount indicator of a student-applicant’s worth. The president of WWU has stated that his explicit goal is to reduce the white population on campus, according to Campus Reform. “I’ve said before and I’ll say it

Funny question in the headline, yes? But since President Obama worries more about the threat of terrorists´ improvised nuclear device going off in a major American city than anything Russia can throw at us, I was wondering if the government had deigned to share with us citizens any tips for, you know, surviving something their own intelligence points to as the likeliest unlikely Black Swan event. Well, no. And yes. No — very few people in Washington, D.C., who work for the government have any idea what they would do if a 10-kiloton nuclear device exploded at the intersection of 16th and K

When President Obama needed a preacher to fulfill the closing prayer duties at the annual White House Easter Prayer Breakfast, he turned to none other than the Episcopal Church’s first openly gay bishop — who said he was as shocked as anyone at the appointment. Then, out of the blue, asks ME to close with prayer. OMG!” Newsmax said he also emphasized that the words he chose to close the breakfast

A Russian fighter jet made multiple, close-range passes near an American warship in the Black Sea for more than 90 minutes Saturday amid escalating tensions in the region, a U.S. military official said Monday. In the first public account of the incident, the official said the Russian Fencer flew within 1,000 yards of the USS Donald Cook, a Navy destroyer, at about 500 feet above sea level. Ship commanders considered the actions provocative and inconsistent with international agreements, prompting the ship to issue several radio queries and warnings. The fighter appeared to be unarmed and never was in danger of
