Unworkable ObamaCare
Wall Street Journal, by Bobby Jindal*

Original Article

Posted By:markinalpine, 7/25/2013 3:20:51 PM

Remember when President Obama famously promised that if you like your health-care plan, you´ll be able to keep your health-care plan? It was a brilliantly crafted political sound bite. Turns out, the statement is untrue. Aside from that small detail, the slightly larger problem is that the Obama administration doesn´t have a health-care plan. Yes, the White House has a law with thousands of pages, but the closer we get to Oct. 1, the day government-mandated health-insurance exchanges are supposed to open, the more we see that the administration doesn´t have a legitimate plan

The Obama administration calculated that if they could just get Obama out there quick and dirty, their usurpation of control of one seventh of the economy would be a fait accompli, and they could muddle through any administrative mess later.

Now, in real time, and at our expense, not theirs, we get to see if they were right.

Most probably, like myriads of Liberal grand schemes before, it will be a swamp of unforeseen (bad) consequences, for which others pay, and which Liberals deal with by “pivoting” to another grand scheme to remedy the disastrous previous one (never admitting, mind you, that they totally screwed up last time).

As of the end of 2012, the number covered by the PCIP had grown to 103,000. The cost of the program had tripled over that same period such that they had severe doubts that the remaining $2.4 billion would last 11 months until Obamacare began. Can our government reach into our pockets to collect to pay $30,000 a year medical bills for those who didn´t buy insurance before they were sick? How much worse will the deal be when an additional 6 to 10 million ensured lose their insurance?

MINNEAPOLIS — Even as President Obama and progressive activists are trying to sell the nation on hiking the national minimum wage to help restaurant workers and other low-wage employees, the Internal Revenue Service is seemingly determined to make life harder for those same workers. A change in tax policy implemented Jan. 1 will prevent restaurant workers from collecting automatic gratuities — the added 18 percent fee many restaurants charge to groups of eight or more — as part of their tips. Instead, that added fee will be included in their payroll, meaning workers have to wait up to two weeks

This week Obamacare passed an unflattering milestone. As of today, the Obama administration has spent longer botching the implementation of Obamacare than the Roosevelt and Truman administrations spent fighting and winning the Second World War. America’s involvement in World War II began on December 7, 1941, with the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor. It ended 1,365 days later on September 2, 1945, with the surrender ceremony aboard the U.S.S. Missouri anchored in Tokyo Bay. President Obama signed the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act into law on March 23, 2010. Today, December 18, 2013, marks the 1,366th day of post-enactment Obamacare implementation.

The number of children taking powerful antipsychotic drugs has nearly tripled over the last 10 to 15 years, according to recent research. The increase comes not because of an epidemic of schizophrenia or other forms of serious mental illness in children, but because doctors are increasingly prescribing the drugs to treat behavior problems, a use not approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). And a disproportionate number of those prescriptions are written for poor and minority children, some as young as age 2. Doctors are prescribing antipsychotics even though there’s minimal evidence that the drugs help kids for approved

Short-cut to produce hydrogen

OSLO - Scientists have produced hydrogen by accelerating a natural process found in rocks deep below the Earth´s surface, a short-cut that may herald the wider use of what is a clean fuel, a study showed on Sunday. Used in rockets and in battery-like fuel cells, hydrogen is being widely researched as a non-polluting fuel, but its use is so far hampered by high costs. A few hydrogen vehicles are already on the roads, such as the Honda FXC Clarity and Mercedes-Benz F-Cell, and more are planned. Researchers in France said aluminum oxide speeded up a process by which hydrogen

The Obama administration quietly finalized the Health Insurance Tax (HIT) over the Thanksgiving holiday weekend, a provision in Obamacare that will cost nearly $60 billion over the next five years and raise health care premiums by 3 percent. The final rule, published on Nov. 27, imposes a fee beginning in 2014 for health insurers with premium revenues over $25 million per year. The annual tax is levied for “United States health risks,” and is hidden from consumers since it is directly assessed on health insurance companies. David R. Burton, a senior fellow in economic policy at the Heritage Foundation, said

A startling rift appeared Tuesday on the Supreme Court as the three female Justices came out swinging like Brunnhildes — women warriors — for what they erroneously labeled an “entitlement” to employer-provided contraceptives and morning-after pills. Justices Kagan, Ginsberg, and Sotomayor sprang on Hobby Lobby’s attorney , interrupting his every sentence and pummeling him with questions taken right out of the Democratic Party’s “war on women” playbook. If Betsey McCaughey is correct (and I bet she is, because she has not only read the entire ObamaCare bill, she has written a book about it), Supreme Court Justice Elena Kagan publicly humiliated herself during the oral arguments on the Hobby Lobby case, revealing that she either did not read the law, or failed to comprehend it if she did so. Writing in the New York Sun, McCaughey lays out what is wrong with the Justice’s declaration about Obamacare: she asserted that the statute itself mandates provision of birth control. Obamacare supporters are taking a bit of a victory lap today after yesterday’s administration announcement that six million people have signed up for private plans under the law, equaling the revised projection put out by the Congressional Budget Office after the botched launch of the exchanges last October.
